  3. Looking for some 3090s for an upgrade and found this
  4. So I got a huge case to build my gaming PC in. I bought it used with some damage, and bought new parts for it. Total I payed about 160 bucks. Corsair Obsidian 100D. Its a Freekin monster. Anyways. Im trying to figure out why i can mount a mini itx BEHIND my Atx. This mfer has room to cool like 3 full builds inside it, but ... like is it possible to build a mini and somehow use it to do processing for the main machine? Like a dasiy chain?. Look im new at this. I'm brand new and bought a case that weighs 60lbs empty. What a start . Mr gnome is here for emotional support.
  5. welp, i thought i wasn't gonna be building anything again soon, but here we are. this is gonna be a SFF web browsing box for my older brother, who just wanted something tiny but still snappy enough for normal day to day computing. since we wanted it to be cheap, lots of stuff in this PC is actually hardware i still had laying on my shelf. this also means that some choices are well... unconventional. here's a rundown of the specs, blue = bought green = delivered Gigabyte Aorus B450I. it's AM4, it's full featured, and cheap. yup. AMD Ryzen 5 Pro 3350G. mostly because it was super cheap secondhand, and we're going SFF so integrated graphics are a must. 64GB in 2x32GB DDR4 ECC. Nope, 32GB ECC UDIMM, yep! "whut? why?" you may ask. because i had it laying around and well, i can. Intel 760p M.2 SSD. this will be the boot drive, also a hand-me-down from my main rig. DELL 1,92TB Enterprise SATA SSDs. again, not very practical i guess. but he'll definitely have enough storage to last him a while. Noctua NH-L9a AM4. mostly because it was the only cooler that would fit, and i have a weak spot for nocs. Noctua 40mm fan. this is a maybe, i'm not sure if i can actually fit this in there, but i'm sure all extra cooling would help. Pico PSU 150W. this is because the case doesn't actually fit any PSU's. neither normal nor unconventional ones. Inter-tech ITX A60. it's tiny, and he likes the looks of it. so we'll make it work. Bitspower universal RAM cover. because these ECC sticks run hot, and in a tiny case with no airflow to speak of it will need all the help it can get. welp, that's it for now. all parts should arrive sometime this week, and i'll update you guys on the progress. for now tough, here's some exquisite low light phone pictures of the motherboard and some other stuff already in it.
  6. Please pick your favorite color in the alphabet
  7. uhhhhh i know this is stupid but i ate a descent chunk of thermal paste. please dont ask why it was arctic mx-4. will i be fine? this is not a joke post
  8. so, long story short, just rebuilt my system after a CPU RMA (all other components stress tested OK in other systems) and now I have this annoying system wide micro stutter symptoms: every half second or so, I get a stutter in all video output. this affects games, video, cursor movement, etc. doesnt occur in bios, and wasnt there in the windows installer either. things ive tried: update/clean install of the following drivers/software Chipset, GPU, Network, BIOS fresh windows install, installed all updates and drivers/control software (geforce experience, armory crate etc) system specs: mobo: asus strix b450 f ii CPU : freshly RMA'd AMD 5800x GPU : asus strix 3070 (non TI) RAM : Trident Z Royal 4000MHz Cooler: ASUS strix LC ii 240mm ARGB PSU : 1000W seasonic focus gold SSD : Kioxia KBG40ZNV1T02 (1TB, ~2GBPS rated) (my wd sn850 crapped itself so I stripped this out of an HP envy I use as a server) intel wifi 6E m.2 card Displays : 1440p 165 Hz running on DP 1080p 144Hz running on DP (normally 2 of these, but 1 rn due to a misshap with an airsoft gun and a freind) 4K 60Hz running on HDMI peripherals asus ROG flare (the old one, cherry mx blue) logitech 502 hero cannon EOS REBEL t5 roland RUBIX 24 other components that are disconnected for troubleshooting rn include : asus blu ray drive (sata) WD baracuda 1TB hdd (sata) WD baracuda 2TB hdd (sata) crappy PNY 1TB sata ssd from walmart grandMA3 onPC node (moar RGB!) some USB hdds pioneer DDJ400 Blackmagic ATEM mini pro other random AVL gear depending on what gig made me have to lug my desktop out to a jobsite (stuff like CDJs, sound and lighting consoles, broadcast gear, etc) any suggestions are appreciated, as im at my wit's end here, and I really need this system to work lol
  9. Hi to everyone I have two monitors, an ASUS PG279Q and a BenQ GL2250HM. Obviously the PG is WAAAAY better (and more expensive), but I play on PC and rarely I turn on the PS3. Where I should connect the PS3? GL2250HM for being 1080p so crisper imagen when playing games (too often 720p) or on PG for IPS and larger screen? Thanks to all the replies and sorry for my english
  10. Hey guys new guy jon here, 'Names not jon, but if you guys want to give me your piece of mind id gladly take it. I have a msi Z170A-G45 Gaming mobo and it has this nifty little device called the "Slow-piss off any owner ever because it, according to the msi tech support people, can break at any time-mode Switch" built into it. My computer in the last two months had decided to stop working well so when I investigated it, I found out that my switch is the supposed problem and needs to be sent in and repaired. Now, I can't do this because I need my computer until mid June to finish school, so here is where I need some assistance. My current fix is to go into the bios and disable "Intel Adaptive Thermal Monitor" and just have my cpu run at a constant 100% utilization (meaning with all fans it runs at 40+ degress Co). I haven't come across and other options yet since I'm not very tech savvy outside of my normal domain of windows, but I can figure stuff out if you explain fairly well. Attached are some random pictures to make this seem like I know exactly whats happening. Please help a lad out, or else linus will curse you with an over heating cpu.
  11. I have a male to male fitting stuck and overtightened on a 240mm radiator. Haven't tried wd40 but it hasn't worked in the past on other overtightened and stuck wc components of mine. My last resort is that I am going to buy an angle grinder from harbor freight and cut in half part of the top and hopefully it will be easier to take the fitting off so I can dispose of it and reuse my radiator.
  12. Hey guys, sadly I can't take pics atm or really describe my situation that well, but on a bus, I had broken the hinge on my ATH-M40X's and in turn the wiring for the cup without the plug ripped and it fell off. Fast track to a year and 3ish months later and I'm gluing the plastic part in the hinge that came off. My question is that I have a red wire and copper wire both exposed so would I just need to twist together the corresponding wires to each color coded counterpart on the wiring by the headband and put some electrical tape on it or would I need to solder it together and use heat shrink?
  13. Is periodic paper conductive? Is it dangerous for PC components? I lost the original bag of my wi-fi card, and I was about to store it with paper. Is it a good idea? Or is it the dumbest thing ever?
  14. Hey guys, So I didn't really know where to go with this, but my mind drifted here and so I figured I might as well ask. For a project for my heat transfer class we are designing a laptop cooler, you know, those gimmicky things with usb powered fans. I'm thinking, dumb dumb dumb, blah blah blah, but then the professor says don't worry about making it cheaply, you have to incorporate a heat pipe into the design. Now I'm excited, but I need some real world data, that is what I'm asking for. If anyone out there has a temp gun and Aida 64 that doesn't mind helping a guy out, I'm hoping to get locations of hot spots on the bottom of the laptop and how hot they get. We are designing to keep a 6x6in section of the bottom of the laptop at 60C (roughly, the design hasn't been flushed out yet but the contact pad with the bottom of the laptop is supposed to be in the center), but if most laptops have hot spots off to the sides then our design would be pointless. Also, my laptop has a nice flat bottom to get contact with barring the 4 rubber stand offs at the corners, but we did notice most laptops have strange uneven bottoms, or even grip strips going along the whole length of the bottom raising the whole laptop out of contact (dang it Dell!) I was wondering how common is this on 15.6" models (we are designing for 15.6" and smaller as we assumed an additional external cooling solution wouldn't help a 17")? I don't know if anyone will help out or even how to collect the data, I guess I'll just browse through the comments or maybe create a strawpoll or something later. Thanks to anyone that helps out! And if you have any ideas about better contacting a wider range of weirdly shaped laptops I'd love to hear it! Here is a quick poll I made of the bottom shape question. Thanks for the help guys! http://www.strawpoll.me/13418058
  15. So I was poking around the web last night. My laptop has a cooling problem every now and then so I was looking at laptop cooling pads and out of shear curiosity I decided to see if someone had attempted to make a liquid cooled one... Well... I found this... The "Cool Breeze Liquid Cooling Pad". I was interested. Not the kind of interested that would lead me to pay nearly $80 but the kind of interested you get when you can smell snake oil flooding the room. I did some poking around. At first I assumed the brand was "Cool Breeze" but all that yielded was a refrigeration company and a rapper. After a closer look at the Amazon page I realized the company was actually "PC Treasures"; an OEM company that distributes software along with some phone and tablet accessories. However, even their own website doesn't have this thing on it. I decided to pop on over to google images to see if anyone had an actual picture of thing instead of just the little marketing material I had found. No pictures of customers holding it but I did find something else. something much, much better. I found a diagram of it's internal workings and I must say, it's kept me giggling for the better part of an hour. So, Apparently the way this thing works is you place your laptop on it, it circulates water underneath and blows the air from the radiator back onto your laptop... I never expected a liquid cooled laptop pad to work very well but I guess I did expect at least a certain amount of logic to be applied when designing it. You know, like, maybe the surface of the pad is a water block that your laptop touches and the radiator is in the back blowing the hot air away from your computer. But instead it looks like they tried to use the radiator as the water block while also using it as a radiator at the same time and are just exhausting the air (presumably hot air but probably not considering the design) back into your laptop. Essentially what you get for $80 is a regular old, $10 laptop cooler that someone made out of aluminum and slapped on a pump and radiator that do nothing just to jack up the price. So what do you guys think? Am I missing something or is this thing as hilarious as I think it is?
  16. so I was thinking about how much an optical sensor was, and I was on google like a normal person and found this it is the most expensive mouse in the world I think. found on walmart.com.
  17. so my friends laptop wants to instal at maximum of 11mbs instead of 100 (the usual speed) do you have any suggestions?
  18. I personally think that Linus and Crew ought to review at least some of the stuff in the link below. Apparently, SouljaBoy makes tech products now.? Just to show you how stupid it is, here's an excerpt from the website itself. SouljaPhone: "64 Gb of ROM" Read-only memory... HMMMMMMM https://souljawatch.com/collections/all If we get a video on this my life will be complete
  19. So I work at a computer store and a customer just brought in his Failing Gaming PC. it was high end for its time, i7-4790, 16GB RAM, GTX970... But it was so coated in Tobacco Tar it cooked itself. We built him a new computer but his old GPU still works(After complete disassembly and cleaning) so as he's letting us junk his old system, I'm tempted to try and SLI his 970 with my own. I could use the upgrade, but I know my Bronze rated EVGA 600W PSU would be very close to max with two GPU's to feed. My plan is to get it in, test it for stability (Disabling all Overclocks CPU and GPU) Then if it all works look at both replacing the stock blower stile cooler and upgrading my PSU. I'm looking at a 850W EVGA G3 for $89.99 on Amazon so yeah. Question is will I even get it to run under load with my current PSU to test or will I have to get a larger PSU just to get this to work? Free GTX970 is worth the $50 or so for the cooler and $90 for the PSU in all honesty. I have a 180Hz Gsync display and Overwatch does scale well with SLI... Oh yeah my current card is an ASUS Strix 970 and the guys card is an EVGA 04G-P4-1970-KR. My Strix is way better, but the SLI should work fine, just have to use a flexible SLI bridge.
  20. Hello. This is a really dumb question, what is the best possible thing that i can wedge between a gpu and a card right under it to give a bit of extra space between the two. Im working on a MATX machine and placed GPU on the top pcie slot and an elgato capture card in the bottom slot which has it's pcb and parts exposed on top. I haven't turned it on yet for other reasons, but i have tries spinning the fan and it's definitely hitting something in the top of the capture card. Is there some thing i can wedge between the two without causing damage? The best idea i have is an eraser from a mechanical pencil. I am open to other creative ideas. 21. First, I would like to thank everyone who helped me and gave me the courage to open up my really old (really REALLY old) laptop, which hasn't been opened up in 10 years. There was more dust in there than a whole attic, hope my overheating problems are gone. Now, my question is really dumb, but where's the CPU? Is it near the CMOS battery? Or underneath the hard drive? Thanks!
  22. I have three PCIE slots, and one of them got damaged because I'm a dumbass 101 and I hit the GPU that was residing there pretty hard, and it surputred the plastic. The pins are now exposed, not touching each other... The PC works fine, the other GPU inside works and runs fine. Is there any harm or should I buy a new motherboard (I don't need this PCIE slot as I "upgraded (and trashed int he process) from two GPUs to one)... Thanks Dumbass101
  23. So here is my story: Once upon a time there was an innocent guy working in his Sony Vegas Pro (aka me). Editing some Videos he imported the wrong file from his E Partition. He thought to himself "How about I press delete on my keyboard to get rid of the wrong files" and proceded to press the key. At first he didnt realize what he just now did. Slowly the cold sweat started going down his back. This mafaka still had his E partition marked and deleted the whole partition with over 100 gigs of footage, pics, school stuff, edits, stock files and psd files. And that's the story of how I fkin deleted my whole partition and had to recover it with recuva and had to organize them because obviouisly I lost the information like folder names and file names, so yeah there is that, shame on me. I was a lil' kid (or maybe not so little, I tried to seal the memory of this incident) and I thought it would be great idea to fkin dismantle my gpu. Well at that time I didnt know shit about how to handle a PCB and what thermalpaste is so yeah. I took out the perfectly fine working EVGA 6800 and started unscrewing it. Opened it up and was like "wtf is this creamy thing" so I wiped of all the thermalpaste and proceeded to play around with the pcb and the screwdriver. My dad obviously saw me and told me to put everything together. Well I put everything together, put the GPU back in and well, it didnt post and I got very sad because I knew, I fucked up so... Now I have a EVGA 6800 WITHOUT thermal paste (cause what kid would think about that ha) that doesnt post somewhere in my cloest.
  24. my locked i5 4440 delidded now runs no hotter than 66c. why?? you might ask, well i didnt like how hot it got in my SFF case, also my warranty was up, but mostly just for the project. thoughts?
  25. hey I've got a question. has anyone ever had this problem where you're stuck at 88-100% cpu usage all the time even at idle? as soon as i turn on my laptop, i goes straight up to 100% usage, ive check the power settings and ive put it on power saver and it still does this. I dont have any sketchy things on the laptop that would suggest I have a virus. I've even completely reformatted the hard drive and installed a clean version of windows and it STILL does this. the things that are taking up the most CPU usage are service host: device setup manager : 21% service host: network setup service : 20% service host: UtcSvc 10% and a whole bunch of other services under it that is taking up the rest. it didn't used to do this but as of a few windows updates ago, my computer has been pegged at at least 90% constantly. only other programs I really use on this computer is intelllij and chrome. Thats it. pls help. my laptop sounds like a freaking hurricane. and is running pretty warm. CPU temps at "idle" are 68 and I live in canada... its not THAT warm here. Windows 10 btw. whatever the latest updates are
