  1. The paper thin LG W7 Series TV used a concept I've been thinking about for a while: external display sans mobo (or nearly) connected to a beefier cpu kept somewhere easier. Basically a backpack pc with a tethered handheld touchscreen. But crazy ideas aside, What are the cable specs for the tether between the display and the soundbar/PC? Better or worse than thunderbolt 3 in terms of speed and bandwidth?
  2. Hello Linus tech tips forums! :-) I need help with something! It is about the new Asus PG258Q monitor! Linus said, in his CES video: in the Asus booth and in front of the PG258q, that Asus said the ULMB went all the way up to 240 Hz IF you turned G-sync off? But in Linus new video about the PG258Q: it sounds like it does not go up to 240 Hz?! What is it? Can you get ULMB at 240 Hz in any way on the PG258Q? Hope someone here can help! :-) Thanks!
  3. Does anyone know what reservoir was in this build?
  4. Best 27"+ monitor under $900? - ASUS PG279Q? Greater then 60Hz The PG279Q monitor is 27" (would consider a larger monitor, but not smaller) and 144Hz (no interest in 60Hz, I already have 3, 60Hz monitors). Lastly, I would want the monitor compatible with g-sync (so when I swap out to a gtx, it can be used). https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017EVR2VM What do you think? The above monitor was closer to $700 for Christmas, so I know the price can go down some. I know Asus released information at CES about their new monitors, but do not know how that is going to play into the near term price cuts.
  5. So i saw the case at ces and wanted to show you how easy it is to make the see through monitor part of the sidepannel.

  7. There's a post in Cases and Power Supplies but I figured I'd do one with TNR formatting. Sources: EVGA and Seasonic have announced new PSUs that are targeted at the budget to mid-range market, finally after years upon years of reign of the now venerable S12II and M12II old Seasonic models. This is all sorts of great, Super Flower is one of the best OEMs out there for PSUs. Of course I won't start giving them to people until reviews pop up. Besides them being fully modular, one amazing thing is their expected price: As for Seasonic, no photos, but a statement from their Press Releases. They don't speak of much details, but the press release suggests that they are trying to enter the market in force as their own brand, with Mainstream models in the Focus series and Entry-level ones in the Core series. Seasonic has yet to disappoint even in the entry-level market if you don't count the XT series from XFX, so I'm confident that these will be competitive. As a LTT user who has spent thousands of words convincing people to dish out the $15 more to get the good entry level PSU instead of the unreliable cost-down unit, I have a dream that one day we'll be able to give people reliable and good PSUs for very little money, so this announcement made me very happy. We hear a lot of talk of $200 units with 0% change in voltage and Unobtanium efficiency, but the people who've $200 aren't the people who need the better PSUs, it's the people who have $350 for their whole computer.
  8. source:polygon Original post: It looks like people actually stole prototypes from the razer CES booth this year, this is a major issue regarding other possible cases of theft at CES, although not much is known like what prototypes or when they where stolen. Since they are speaking about 2 prototypes it's fair to assume that it is about project valerie and project ariana, which where to my knowledge the only protoypes showed off by razer this year, so it's either one of both that went missing or two of one project. From Cnet, with thanks to @Kierax https://www.cnet.com/news/razer-prototypes-stolen-ces-2017/#ftag=CAD590a51e Update 1: After having this topic up for roughly a day there has been more news that I have been able to filter out of the not so serious responses. from PCgamer, with thanks to @LunaP0n3 http://www.pcgamer.com/razers-show-stealing-triple-display-laptops-stolen-from-ces/?utm_content=buffer6ccbd&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook&utm_campaign=buffer_pcgamerfb from polygon, with thanks to @mosin40 http://www.polygon.com/2017/1/9/14211496/razer-prototype-theft-ces it looks like it where two of the laptops that have been stolen, with a suspected worth of $25k, this sounds as a lot for 2 laptops, but let's not forget that this are prototypes/proof of concept devices, for the company that made them they are worth a lot more, but the value is probably based on the fact that they don't come rolling of a production line and mostly have been hand made or with special fabrication methods that are not available on a large scale. let's hope that they catch the thief/thieves soon, some people just that it is "just" razer, but let's not forget that the result of this case can set a precedence for future thefts of other companies. Update2: It looks like the prototypes have been seen on a chinese resale site, which confirms suspicions of earlier people, from loveley WCCFtech, thanks to our darklord @Sauron but also a special mention to @MyEngGooest since he/she reported it before, but sadly with links that I cannot properly visit without a redirection to the wrong page. http://wccftech.com/razer-valerie-laptops-found/ This is both good, but also bad news, the seller is probably known and can be identified, it's not a crappy marketing idea of razer; but to get the prototypes bacl they first need to find him and get to Chinese authorities to cooperate in this witchhunt.
  9. Hey guys! I'm wondering why LTT has not come up any ces17 VR related content? I've heard there was some pretty cool tech on display like for example the wireless vive. Btw it's my 1st post here and hopely it's on the right sub. I did try to search for any similar threads without success. Has VR become taboo here or what's this silence all about?
  10. I just wanted to say Thumps for the CES coverage this year. You guys really had your stuff together this year and the videos were way more like a regular LTT video. The shots of the products were all beautiful and sound quality was amazing. Overall amazing job. I hope others agree on this with me.
  11. Currently I have a m.2 for my C, which somehow is almost full even though it's 256gb, no games so idk why. Anyway, rather than running games in 4k from a HDD, I'd prefer to load some AAA games a tad faster than carrier pigeon. Is there much real world difference between the 750 and 850? Not going to really use it for anything par gaming, no rendering / recording etc. Thank's for the help! James
  12. Edit: I was a bit late, OP: According to The Verge, Razer's two crazy three-screen laptops from CES were stolen right out of their booth. You know, these guys: (image courtesy of WCCFTech) A statement from Razer from the article: My first thought when I saw this was "Okay, @LinusTech, what did you do?", but seriously, what do you guys think about this? Apparently, the theft occurred after show hours, and there is a $25,000 reward for those who give Razer (legal@razerzone.com) information that "leads to a conviction". Crazy times at CES.
  13. For the Lulz http://www.itechpost.com/articles/72905/20170110/razer-ceo-believes-industrial-espionage-reason-theft-prototypes-ces-2017.htm
  14. So...two of Razer's prototypes were stolen from CES according to the Razer CEO. May or not be something we saw in a LTT video. Directly quoting from the article linked below: ------------- All the news from Las Vegas' CES 2017 has been revealed and discussed now, but the show continues to shock—and not in a good way. Razer's CEO Min-Liang Tan disclosed in a Facebook post that two of the company's prototypes were stolen from its CES booth. While Tan did not say which prototypes were taken, Razer built its CES presence around its Project Valerie triple-display laptop prototype and its Project Ariana Chrome-lighting smart projector prototype. According to Tan's post, Razer has already filed the necessary paperwork to report the stolen property, and the company is working with CES officials and law enforcement to address this crime. While Tan didn't say if they already had any leads, he did address the possibility of this theft being industry-related. "We treat theft/larceny, and if relevant to this case, industrial espionage, very seriously," Tan wrote. "It is cheating, and cheating doesn’t sit well with us. Penalties for such crimes are grievous and anyone who would do this clearly isn’t very smart." Razer has been the victim of theft before. In 2011, two laptop prototypes were stolen from a Razer office in San Francisco—those ended up being early prototypes of the Razer Blade. Project Valerie is a larger-than-life laptop with three built-in displays, two of which fan out from the central panel. Project Ariana is a 4K projector that, when pointed at a TV or gaming monitor, can sense the edges of that display and use room's light to extend the game's field of view onto the walls. Since these are prototypes, there's no guarantee Project Valerie or Project Ariana will ever hit shelves. --------------- http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2017/01/two-of-razers-prototypes-were-stolen-from-its-ces-booth/
  15. Earlier today a large sum of YouTube videos, and accompanying articles, about a new blackberry phone due to release later this year. The phone is designed by TLC Communications (whom I believe Alcatel are connected to), who's president, Steve Cistulli, put out a teaser for the phone around a day before CES. Oddly, the phone codenamed "Mercury" (quite awesome, that name is) was never actually codenamed "mercury," but they are using it as a placeholder name until they reveal (or come up with) a final one. I know what you want to know, the specs. Is it running a juicy Snapdragon 830 or maybe a 821? Well, I don't know, they are not telling us, and the people who see it (and make YouTube videos) are not allowed to state any specific specifications. In other words we have nothing on the: Screen, Cameras, Speakers, Type-C Port, SOC, Battery, most of the software, or anything else. I know, devastating. But we can talk about the build and some aspects of the software. So, TLC is sharing three main "features" at the show: the physical QWERTY keyboard, and its capacitive nature; fingerprint sensor on the spacebar, which is quite clever; and software, the part that we/they/whatever can talk about. Software "The Mercury will run Android 7.0 Nougat, and come preloaded with BlackBerry Messenger, BlackBerry Hub and a DTEK app for greater convenience and security. Like it does on the DTEK50 and DTEK60, the DTEK app shows you how the apps on your phone are accessing your data." [1] I am not well versed in the blackberry security suite that they are so proud of. I will look into it an update this post with more information about it. Keyboard "The ability to use the surface of the buttons as a touchpad to navigate the system isn't new -- that function was a highlight of the BlackBerry Passport. But the feature is extra useful here because the space taken up by the physical keys makes it tougher for your thumb to reach the screen above; Swiping left, right, up or down on the keyboard to flick through home pages or browse long webpages is much easier in a pinch. This worked well during my time with the Mercury, although the prototype was sometimes sluggish in responding to my touch." [1] Spacebar Fingerprint Sensor "The fingerprint sensor that's embedded into the space bar wasn't functional on the preview unit, but it's supposed to make unlocking your phone or authorizing transactions more convenient." The Build You'd expect it to be some plastic composite on the side, and that oddly grippy blackberry material on the back. NOPE! You get that odd blackberry material on the back, but you also get these beautiful aluminum sides. Above the screen the aluminum on the sides will make an appearance. This part contains the selfie camera, headset speaker, and a light sensor? The display is small, probably around 5" - 5.2." There is no mention if it is OLED, AMOLED, IPS, LCS, IPS LCD, Quantom Dot, or anything else. The keyboard is, well, a physical keyboard. From what I read it is a very responsive keyboard, with a lower actuation force needed to register a key press than the Priv, but does not feel mushy. [1] https://www.engadget.com/2017/01/04/blackberry-mercury-hands-on/ [2] http://www.androidcentral.com/blackberry-mercury (As long as this post is not taken down I intend to update it with more information as it comes out)
  16. HTC has announced its new subscription based VR service at CES today. It seems to be kind of like netflix for VR games, with the added bonus of social media interaction and personalization. https://blog.vive.com/us/2016/08/05/introducing-viveport/ With it comes a new website that allows you to sign up for a free trial when it becomes publicly available. No prices are listed on the announcement page at this time. https://www.viveport.com/ I'm pretty excited for this personally. One of the few things that prevented me from jumping into VR was the cost of buying games. I don't really care much about the social media stuff, but it might be cool to check my spacebook page while in vr.
  17. So this device is going to be a backpack with a balloon with a string attached inside it. When the shoulder cord is pulled the back opens and the balloon is released 10 to 15 ft high. What do you think?
  18. A friend of mine came across this article and we both had a good laugh regarding the authors commends about this $10,000 (Yup thats Ten Thousand Dollars) Audiophile Ethernet Cable from AudioQuest. Product Page > http://www.audioquest.com/ethernet/diamond Link to Hilarious Article > http://arstechnica.com/staff/2015/02/to-the-audiophile-this-10000-ethernet-cable-apparently-makes-sense/ I won't go into a rant about how stupid the companies claims are as the author of this article sums it up far better than I could anyway. After we both stopped laughing I actually started to get angry. As a network engineer who is intimately familiar with Ethernet and the OSI model I was rather ticked off at the companies claims. Went to their web site and I see .... AudioQuest CES2017 Please o Please o Please if anyone going to CES knows half as much about how Ethernet cables work as I do please confront these guys and get it on camera! If you haven't seen it check out the LTT video on the crazy HDMI cable hilarious!
  19. Speculations is going around that Asus might reveal their thinnest laptop at this years CES. Model of that laptop is Asus ROG GX501 and inside packs a Intel Kaby Lake quad core processor, 24GB of ram, NVMe SSD, 4K display, and a GTX1080. This 15.6 inch laptop will have a thickness of 16.65mm, a lot thinner than the Razer Blade Pro which has a thickness of 22.5mm. http://laptopmedia.com/news/asus-rog-gx501-is-the-thinnest-laptop-with-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1080-just-16-65-mm/

  21. CES 2017 begins. What would you like to have within your budgetary limitation? I would like to ignore all those stupid products from 3,800 companies who will eventually try to give us 1000+ different categorized products. Without harming the Nature, which would be dealing with the proper utilities? What are your thoughts? ( @WoodenMarker, @wkdpaul)
  22. One benefit of AMD being late this time is that they have something to show at CES, meaning it won't ALL be smurtfones and smurtcars and smurtrefrigerators, your grandma's notepad and similar yucky things this year. In addition there's the wave of HDR monitors to check out (though, knowing CES, most companies will bring a TV or two and give you a blank stare if you ask about monitors) If anyone's going, I have a request: see if you can sneak into wherever the Ryzen demo machine is and put your hand on the CPU heatsink for science.
  23. http://www.bequiet.com/en/psucalculator As you can see here you can select the 1080ti as a Video Card for your System. People think that the 1080 Ti will be announced at CES, looks like they are right and it is just around the corner now.
  24. http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/productdetails/xps-15-9560-laptop Leaked specs include Kaby Lake i5-i7 and a GTX 1050. http://www.anandtech.com/show/10937/dell-readies-new-xps-15-4k-quad-core-kaby-lake-geforce-gtx-1050
  25. I am assuming that several members of the Linus Empire will be attending CES, and there is ONE item I want to get some review of because I cannot attend. OSSIC X headphones. I know Linus and Luke HATE headphones with multiple speakers, but they claim to have cracked the holy grail of superior positional audio. I want to know if it's really decent and sounds good. How well does it actually work? I want to hear the opinions of the TOTALLY jaded Linus staff who have likely tried throngs of terrible "gaming" headsets and know what crap is. And more than that, if the positional audio is up to snuff... how about the general sound quality? How does music sound? If the reports are good, I intend top drop some cash to get some myself... but I'd rather hear some third party reports first.
