  1. Haven't seen a general CES discussion thread for this yet, so thought why not start one. With CES over for another year & most videos & articles have now stopped flowing from the publications. I figured why not have a discussion about what our favourite tech from this years show was! So let's get to it! For me, I really liked Vivo's under the screen fingerprint reader. I'm hoping we'll start to see it in the near future on the mainstream Androids & hopefully Apple can get their act together & get something like that on a future iPhone, I wouldn't even say next year but hopefully by 2020. Also, as lame as it sounds, I am really excited for the wireless K63 from Corsair, if only it came with RGB & Cherry MX Blues though. I still am probably going to buy it, as I am sick of all the cables across my desk & no real solution to route them neatly. Notable mentions for me: -LG's rollable OLED TV, that was awesome & I liked how you could use it at certain heights for different aspect ratios etc. A shame it would be way out of my price range though. -Silverstone Mini-STX RVZ04 even though it will never come to market as it seems like Mini-STX is about almost dead. -@CableMod's pro cables, I wasn't sure about them when seeing the option on the website when creating custom length cables, but after seeing @bitwit's video, i'm sold, they look amazing. -Toshiba RC100 M.2 NVME SSD, being only 42mm long is awesome. Saying that I'm still amazed both of my M.2 SSD's are the size of my name badges for work.. -mATX TR4, I love small formfactor, so seeing something as massive as a Threadripper CPU on a Micro ATX board is fascinating to me. It would be cool to see an ITX variant, but I have a feeling that will never happen due to the sheer size of the CPU. I've probably forgotten about some neat stuff, but that mostly sums it up for me. What about the rest of you?
  2. New power supplies from Cooler Master. The MasterWatt V and MasterWatt Maker. MasterWatt V is available in 550w, 650w, and 750w. It's 80Plus Gold rated. with a maximum operating temperature of 50C, uses a single 135mm FDB fan, and comes with a 10 year warranty. MasterWatter Maker comes in at 1200w and 1500w, with a 80Plus Titanium rating. It uses a 3D printed circuit design, reducing the number of components inside the power supply, thus improving air flow. Both MasterWatt V and MasterWatt Maker features Master Connect v 2.0. https://www.anandtech.com/show/12281/cooler-master-at-ces-2018-new-masterwatt-v-and-maker-power-supplies-with-connect-v2-0-and-overlay-live-telemetry
  3. BTS of the CES Setups

I would find it really interesting, if Brandon would talk about the camera setup he uses for the CES 2018 show coverage and for example Taran about how the editing is done for CES (little bonus would be - if Taran can still cut videos without using at least 3 keyboards)
  4. Not a actual product or any plans to even make it into production, but CES is a place where tech companies gets to show off some cool prototypes or concept stuffs and Adata's project Jellyfish is one of them. It's a ram enclosed with a sealed acrylic heat spreader filled with mineral oil. https://www.techpowerup.com/240479/adata-shows-off-project-jellyfish-a-mineral-oil-based-dimm-heatspreader
  5. Dell's all new XPS 15 for the very first time has been released as a 2 in 1 device, where its 360 degree hinge let's it go from a regular laptop to a tablet. The system is packed with a 8th gen Intel Core i5 or Core i7 along with Radeon VEGA M graphics. Dell went ahead and used the slightly slower version of VEGA M, GL instead of GH. Memory is up to 16GB of DDR4, for storage it's PCIe SSD, up to 1TB, and for the screen it's 15.6 inches with a 4K or 1080P resolution. Both supports touch and is 100% of the Adobe RGB color space. It also supports Windows ink with a supported stylus that's sold separately. There is a total of 4 usb type C ports, with 2 of them Thunderbolt 3. A combo headphone jack, microSD card reader, finger print reader, and battery status leds. For wireless connectivity there is Killer 1435 wireless AC with Bluetooth 4.1 or Intel 8265 wireless AC with Bluetooth 4.1 for those that uses Intel vPro. Battery is 75Whr giving a approximate battery life of ~15 hours with the 1080P screen. Dell XPS 15" 2 in 1 will start at a price of $1,299 and will be available in Sping of 2018. https://www.anandtech.com/show/12252/dell-at-ces-2018-updates-xps-15-2in1-intel-kaby-lakeg-cpu-with-radeon-rx-vega-m-graphics https://www.cnet.com/pictures/dell-xps-15-2-in-1/
  6. So year after year my YT subscriptions are filled with CES coverage of the most boring stuff. I don't need to know what something maybe or might be available , just put it out and see if I buy it.
  7. Source: https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2018/1/9/16866206/razer-project-linda-phone-laptop-dock-touchpad-prototype-android-concept-ces-2018 Linus' video: The Verge video: So far it looks like the screen can be used separately in selected applications but otherwise will just mirror the phone. The laptop dock features: Webcam RGB keyboard 1080p 13.3" screen - Touchscreen mentioned as planned in Linus video Headphone jack 1x USB-C 1x USB-A ports Extra 200GB storage Internal battery to charge the phone and power itself It uses the phone's speakers instead of having its own and Razer has designed a custom Android launcher to make use of tablet mode in applications. Third party USB peripherals are supported. Hopefully we see an actual product out of this. I'd love for it to be able to be used on other phones apart from the Razer phone.

  11. I am a system builder, I make and sell systems as a past time, and when I saw the You Tube tech crowd all making videos on this giant Corsair super tower case. I wanted it, I use my computer as part of the decorations of my room. So after all, the videos of a couple YouTubers surfaced, I herd nothing more of this case. I went around to varies websites, looking up information on this case but I had little to no luck. So I emailed Corsair and got this reply! This is very encouraging!
  12. Dream monitors, 4k or Ultrawide?

Guys, I'm struggling - later this year the Acer Predator x27 and x35p monitors are coming out, and I can afford one of them!!!! ; but which? I've been doing the maths: The x27 has 67% more pixels. They are both the same vertical size, but the x35p is 30% wider. (I don't care about the difference between 200hz and 144, and should I care about tobii eye tracking?) I'll be upgrading from a 29'' 1080p 60Hz Ultrawide and: I love the extra horizontal space while playing games like Witcher 3 or GTA 5. And for productivity.. having full-size documents side by side is a dream. but 70% of the time I have black bars: While watching youtube, playing Overwatch, Starcraft, or Dark Souls 3, and the constant switch to 16:9 for cutscenes in all games is not great. If you could buy one of these beauties, which would you pick and why? Other info: (I don't do video editing) (I do spend 10h+ a day at my computer for work/play) (Till I get a tv, my monitor is where I watch movies/tv) (I have a GTX 1080)
  13. Cable specs for the LG W7 series?

The paper thin LG W7 Series TV used a concept I've been thinking about for a while: external display sans mobo (or nearly) connected to a beefier cpu kept somewhere easier. Basically a backpack pc with a tethered handheld touchscreen. But crazy ideas aside, What are the cable specs for the tether between the display and the soundbar/PC? Better or worse than thunderbolt 3 in terms of speed and bandwidth?
  14. Help with clarification!

Hello Linus tech tips forums! :-) I need help with something! It is about the new Asus PG258Q monitor! Linus said, in his CES video: in the Asus booth and in front of the PG258q, that Asus said the ULMB went all the way up to 240 Hz IF you turned G-sync off? But in Linus new video about the PG258Q: it sounds like it does not go up to 240 Hz?! What is it? Can you get ULMB at 240 Hz in any way on the PG258Q? Hope someone here can help! :-) Thanks!
  15. Does anyone know what reservoir was in this build?
  16. Best 27"+ monitor under $900? - ASUS PG279Q? Greater then 60Hz The PG279Q monitor is 27" (would consider a larger monitor, but not smaller) and 144Hz (no interest in 60Hz, I already have 3, 60Hz monitors). Lastly, I would want the monitor compatible with g-sync (so when I swap out to a gtx, it can be used). https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017EVR2VM What do you think? The above monitor was closer to $700 for Christmas, so I know the price can go down some. I know Asus released information at CES about their new monitors, but do not know how that is going to play into the near term price cuts.
  17. Making a see through display

So i saw the case at ces and wanted to show you how easy it is to make the see through monitor part of the sidepannel.
  18. Hey guys! I'm wondering why LTT has not come up any ces17 VR related content? I've heard there was some pretty cool tech on display like for example the wireless vive. Btw it's my 1st post here and hopely it's on the right sub. I did try to search for any similar threads without success. Has VR become taboo here or what's this silence all about?
  19. I just wanted to say Thumps for the CES coverage this year. You guys really had your stuff together this year and the videos were way more like a regular LTT video. The shots of the products were all beautiful and sound quality was amazing. Overall amazing job. I hope others agree on this with me.
  20. There's a post in Cases and Power Supplies but I figured I'd do one with TNR formatting. Sources: EVGA and Seasonic have announced new PSUs that are targeted at the budget to mid-range market, finally after years upon years of reign of the now venerable S12II and M12II old Seasonic models. This is all sorts of great, Super Flower is one of the best OEMs out there for PSUs. Of course I won't start giving them to people until reviews pop up. Besides them being fully modular, one amazing thing is their expected price: As for Seasonic, no photos, but a statement from their Press Releases. They don't speak of much details, but the press release suggests that they are trying to enter the market in force as their own brand, with Mainstream models in the Focus series and Entry-level ones in the Core series. Seasonic has yet to disappoint even in the entry-level market if you don't count the XT series from XFX, so I'm confident that these will be competitive. As a LTT user who has spent thousands of words convincing people to dish out the $15 more to get the good entry level PSU instead of the unreliable cost-down unit, I have a dream that one day we'll be able to give people reliable and good PSUs for very little money, so this announcement made me very happy. We hear a lot of talk of $200 units with 0% change in voltage and Unobtanium efficiency, but the people who've $200 aren't the people who need the better PSUs, it's the people who have $350 for their whole computer.
  21. Edit: I was a bit late, OP: According to The Verge, Razer's two crazy three-screen laptops from CES were stolen right out of their booth. You know, these guys: (image courtesy of WCCFTech) A statement from Razer from the article: My first thought when I saw this was "Okay, @LinusTech, what did you do?", but seriously, what do you guys think about this? Apparently, the theft occurred after show hours, and there is a $25,000 reward for those who give Razer (legal@razerzone.com) information that "leads to a conviction". Crazy times at CES.
  22. Razer Burgled

So...two of Razer's prototypes were stolen from CES according to the Razer CEO. May or not be something we saw in a LTT video. Directly quoting from the article linked below: ------------- All the news from Las Vegas' CES 2017 has been revealed and discussed now, but the show continues to shock—and not in a good way. Razer's CEO Min-Liang Tan disclosed in a Facebook post that two of the company's prototypes were stolen from its CES booth. While Tan did not say which prototypes were taken, Razer built its CES presence around its Project Valerie triple-display laptop prototype and its Project Ariana Chrome-lighting smart projector prototype. According to Tan's post, Razer has already filed the necessary paperwork to report the stolen property, and the company is working with CES officials and law enforcement to address this crime. While Tan didn't say if they already had any leads, he did address the possibility of this theft being industry-related. "We treat theft/larceny, and if relevant to this case, industrial espionage, very seriously," Tan wrote. "It is cheating, and cheating doesn’t sit well with us. Penalties for such crimes are grievous and anyone who would do this clearly isn’t very smart." Razer has been the victim of theft before. In 2011, two laptop prototypes were stolen from a Razer office in San Francisco—those ended up being early prototypes of the Razer Blade. Project Valerie is a larger-than-life laptop with three built-in displays, two of which fan out from the central panel. Project Ariana is a 4K projector that, when pointed at a TV or gaming monitor, can sense the edges of that display and use room's light to extend the game's field of view onto the walls. Since these are prototypes, there's no guarantee Project Valerie or Project Ariana will ever hit shelves. --------------- http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2017/01/two-of-razers-prototypes-were-stolen-from-its-ces-booth/
  23. For the Lulz http://www.itechpost.com/articles/72905/20170110/razer-ceo-believes-industrial-espionage-reason-theft-prototypes-ces-2017.htm
  24. source:polygon Original post: It looks like people actually stole prototypes from the razer CES booth this year, this is a major issue regarding other possible cases of theft at CES, although not much is known like what prototypes or when they where stolen. Since they are speaking about 2 prototypes it's fair to assume that it is about project valerie and project ariana, which where to my knowledge the only protoypes showed off by razer this year, so it's either one of both that went missing or two of one project. From Cnet, with thanks to @Kierax https://www.cnet.com/news/razer-prototypes-stolen-ces-2017/#ftag=CAD590a51e Update 1: After having this topic up for roughly a day there has been more news that I have been able to filter out of the not so serious responses. from PCgamer, with thanks to @LunaP0n3 http://www.pcgamer.com/razers-show-stealing-triple-display-laptops-stolen-from-ces/?utm_content=buffer6ccbd&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook&utm_campaign=buffer_pcgamerfb from polygon, with thanks to @mosin40 http://www.polygon.com/2017/1/9/14211496/razer-prototype-theft-ces it looks like it where two of the laptops that have been stolen, with a suspected worth of $25k, this sounds as a lot for 2 laptops, but let's not forget that this are prototypes/proof of concept devices, for the company that made them they are worth a lot more, but the value is probably based on the fact that they don't come rolling of a production line and mostly have been hand made or with special fabrication methods that are not available on a large scale. let's hope that they catch the thief/thieves soon, some people just that it is "just" razer, but let's not forget that the result of this case can set a precedence for future thefts of other companies. Update2: It looks like the prototypes have been seen on a chinese resale site, which confirms suspicions of earlier people, from loveley WCCFtech, thanks to our darklord @Sauron but also a special mention to @MyEngGooest since he/she reported it before, but sadly with links that I cannot properly visit without a redirection to the wrong page. http://wccftech.com/razer-valerie-laptops-found/ This is both good, but also bad news, the seller is probably known and can be identified, it's not a crappy marketing idea of razer; but to get the prototypes bacl they first need to find him and get to Chinese authorities to cooperate in this witchhunt.
  25. 750 EVO vs 850 EVO

Currently I have a m.2 for my C, which somehow is almost full even though it's 256gb, no games so idk why. Anyway, rather than running games in 4k from a HDD, I'd prefer to load some AAA games a tad faster than carrier pigeon. Is there much real world difference between the 750 and 850? Not going to really use it for anything par gaming, no rendering / recording etc. Thank's for the help! James
