Article from Bell: https://www.bce.ca/news-and-media/releases/show/Bell-set-to-deliver-North-America-s-fastest-Internet-speeds-and-Wi-Fi-technology-of-any-major-provider?page=1&month=&year=&perpage=25 Article from MobileSyrup: https://mobilesyrup.com/2022/08/02/bell-to-deliver-8gbps-symmetrical-internet-speeds-next-month/ Will be starting to roll Toronto in September and other regions later on. I hope Manitoba will be one. No word of pricing yet... But i hope that means gigabit will come down. I wonder if Telus will roll anything higher than 2.5Gbps out west?

For starters I'm in Canada and my Dad is paying BELL a bunch of money for fast "Fibe Internet", although we are not getting even close to the speed that we should be getting. Our wifi should be more than capable of reaching 50-70Mbps yet we are barely hitting 10Mbps. In my room which is located directly above the router I'm getting 1-8Mbps. We also have weird dead spots for example, the room over from where the router is located if you sit on the couch you completely lose WiFi connection. A couple of workers from Bell have visited but they didn't do anything. The WiFi was great for about one day after a worker came to fix the WiFi only the day after he installed it. Frankly it's pathetic. I'm just trying to play apex and warzone yet it is basically impossible. I could really use some help or advice if you have any! Thank you!

So I know you can split bell routers input into vlan 35 for internet and 36 for TV if you want to have a TV box work through your network, this I have learned. I need to do this because of how badly my old tin ceiling block wireless signal. I know it can be done but I have no idea how and guides that just are example command line are not helpful. I thought opening all ports to it and creating a destination nat rule would work but the router still blocks somthing the TV boxes need. Only time I saw an option for vlan was in the basic setup wizard where the was an option to enter a single vlan number. Not way to assign vlan 35 to port 1 and vlan 36 to port 2 or something like that. I'm so lost and so confused

So I have 2 levels of network to open ports in, My bell box has a router built in which I opened the ports, then my asus router I opened the ports. All seems good except the ports are still not showing as open even when I checked on my website pc which is directly connected to the bell router and has some ports open for it they were still showing as closed on the online tests. So here is my question....how do you open ports when port forwarding does not open them ?

So unfortunately the isp im with has to run there service through bell owned lines, which is basically the case canada wide, any isp that isnt bell or rogers, still has to use their lines, they own the net infra. tldr everythings good on my isp's end, and on my end, but something on the bell line is causing packet loss of 4 percent, and ping spikes up to 2k ms. They sent the ticket off the bell, but being bell ive no faith they can or will fix the problem, im the only one in this middle of nowhere town doing anything that would even allow me to notice the problem (ie gaming online, heavy streaming etc) so i doubt im very high priority, as im sure im the only one complaining. How boned am i? Is it shop for an isp time, or is this easily fixable? Its been 2 weeks with this issue and im about fed up with it. i cant do ANYTHING for more than an hour without some sort of problem that mucks it all up and angers me to the point of not even wanting to bother trying. Its like being stuck in the 90s, any video will conk out and choke, twitch, you guessed it, conks out and chokes, online gaming? HAH in my dreams. Pretty sure the tech and myself covered all the bases we could (new router etc) and its on bells shoulders, but you never know, could be someone on this forum who could help to get things moving along. Was told bell would look at it within 24 hours and YOU GUESSED IT, not a single update from them in 12 hours and counting, which doesnt surprise me really, its why im on here asking for advice. And the weekend is coming up, so im even more worried they will sweep it under the rug until monday, if they even bother to look into it. Im assuming this is mostly out of my hands at this point, but a new isp is tempting, sadly the only options are little companies that use bells lines. or rogers. dont need another 600 dollar "over the data cap" bill on a DATA CAP FREE PLAN again, so pass on those idiots. and rogers still doesnt offer no data cap in my area, and their speeds are awful here *sigh* i hate canadian internet. you murricans are LUCKY, id take comcast over this nonsense. our isp's still think 5mbps is "speedy" and they actually consider 30 to be "lightning fast" oh. okay. maybe 20 years ago. what do?

sumofus.org is saying that Bell, Cineplex, Rogers, and Shaw "are pushing to create an internet "blacklist" of certain websites that all internet service providers in Canada would legally have to block.", called the "Internet Piracy Review Agency" (IPRA), with no court oversight. According to sumofus.org the vote is happening tomorrow. Currently there is a petition on sumofus.org to "stop the corporate control over our internet". In the article on huffingtonpost.ca, comments from the companies behind this push seem to unanimously say that this is to fight against piracy. Rob Malcolmson (senior VP at Bell) said "Many of the most prominent global players in the piracy ecosystem operate out of Canada as a relative safe harbour, and Canadians made 1.88 billion visits to piracy sites last year.". I think it's pretty obvious that this is a bad thing for us consumers and should be stopped. This is a very slippery slope leading towards the banning of any site, not just those meant for pirating. Since there is no court oversight to this blacklist it probably wouldn't be that hard, or take them that long, to start using this blacklist to their advantage. Imagine if Shaw and Rogers (owners of Canadian streaming service Shomi) used their influence to put any competitor (such as Netflix) on this blacklist. Other sites covering this topic include michaelgeist.ca, and iphoneincanada.ca.

So, Bell offered us a good deal to upgrade our internet. We live in an area that doesnt have access to fiber optics yet and bell is the only provider around, we had gotten about 700-800 Kilobytes/second download and 200 upload, they told us that they would upgrade that to 5 megabyte download and 1 upload. We accepeted the deal, they sent us a new modem and told us they set us up for these speeds. The thing is, the speeds haven't increased whatsoever, still getting the same speeds as before. The following speed test was done after upgrading, and are still the same speeds as before. (NOTE* the test is in megabits/second, which translates to the kilobyte speeds i was talking about) http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5590020554

Hello people of the LTT forums! I have a issue brewing with my ISP, Bell Canada, and would like to have more information for them when their technician comes. So, at around 8 PM every night, my internet slows down to a measly 7.5MBps (I pay for 50) if I have one of the Bell IPTVs running. If I have 2 IPTVs running, my internet completely stops and both TVs become pixelated. This lasts until 3 AM. After 3 AM, until 8 PM, my internet runs at my normal 45-50MBps even with 2 TVs running. This started last Tuesday and I have not touched anything around my network for 2 weeks before that! I simply can't see what the problem could be. Even their phone technicians tell me that they don't understand what the problem could be. I was wondering if there is a program out there that could monitor my network and figure out if there is something that I am missing. Thanks in advance, Joshua

Issue:It has been too long that I have witnessed my (comparably savvy considering) grandmother struggle with her Bell PVR. Problem: The 6131/6141 PVR works with external hard-drives, and you can swap them out, but the unit only makes use of up to .5 or 1.5 (can't recall) TB of data before it silently fails to record new shows. At around this point, my Gramma starts going through a list of recordings, deleting them one by one at 30 seconds a piece because of the UI and the processing time. (Something that would take 2 seconds total on something mouse driven and responsive...) I am totally game for a solution where I can buy them a new 5TB drive and exchange it for 2-3 2TB externals... Background Canada's TV (and Net and Radio and Phone) Regulator the CRTC (Stands for what I just said) never got around to making cable-cards a mandatory thing up here, and subscription cards disappeared from providers like Bell ages ago, so a nice HTPC is out of the question. I do not currently have access to the hardware to experiment. I'll probably necro this thread down the line if things move slowly. The grandparents are (critical) Bell loyalist retirees, so going cable might be out of the question. Since they live somewhere that isnt Toronto, over-the-Air HDTV is limited The PVR records in a common format which some program could nominally read, however it is encrypted. [angry bell employees pls leak keys kthx] Recommendations  1. Tell me who to talk to. This quest may not end on LTT, but I figured it was a good place to begin. Maybe some of you folks could point me to niche communities, linux buffs, PC DIY hackers, what-have-you, where I can get answers. 2. Devise a way to format the USB drive into multiple partitions, and then sym-link them or something, or use some kind of non-standard partition table which I can edit by script so that it switches which partition a host device sees first. I am uncertain if the the PVR can even handle drives with multiple partitions without encountering a glitch. 3. Build some kind of PC which can emulate an external hard drive and act as USB client, then with a flip of a switch or script, alternate which partition gets presented as the USB client. Google reveals that over the years some people have requested this USB client emulation technology, but it does not appear to exist cheaply. 4. Suggest better PVR solutions that work with Bell? 5. Rig up a 3rd reciever to a dumb-recording HTPC and somehow achieve scheduling functionality, remote operation, etc....Yeah, this one I thought up while writing this thread and I could research myself. whatever post anyways.

Hey everybody, Just wondering about whether the OnePlus Two will work in Canada if I am on a Bell contract. I received an invite earlier this morning and I am tempted to use it however I want to be sure it will work with my carrier. As well, I am wondering if it is possible to just swap the Nano-sim card between my current phone and the OnePlus Two should I buy it... I am running out of time on this wonderful little invite..

My Grandad has just given me his laptop because the keyboard has stopped working, he said he thinks that there is a way to turn it on/off but I haven't been able to find it anywhere. So is there a way or is it broken? It's a Packard Bell Easynote te69kb. Thanks in advance

Bell, Rogers and Telus are getting together to keep Verizon out of Canada. Is this good or bad? Read more in this article by The Verge. http://www.theverge.com/2013/7/28/4563600/three-largest-canadian-carriers-lobby-to-keep-verizon-out

Hey guys, My uncle complained that he had some issues sometimes when he booted up his laptop. I thought I might try a BIOS update, so I checked the Packard Bell UK website for the EN MH36 model, the BIOS information at that point was: dmi.bios.date: 22/12/2008 dmi.bios.vendor: Phoenix Technologies LTD dmi.bios.version: PBPE2L0N.P07 There wasn't a update available on the website, so I checked the website of Phoenix Technologies (http://phoenixbios.com, I had to download a program called BIOSAgentPlus®. After scanning the laptop, it said there was an update available, but I had to purchase the program for 30$. After that I just tried a google search and found this: http://driverscollection.com/?H=EasyNote%20MH36%20series&By=Packard%20Bell I downloaded the "Released: 17 Feb 2009" update but it was actually a downgrade and now I have this BIOS version: dmi.bios.date: 10/08/2008 dmi.bios.vendor: Phoenix Technologies LTD dmi.bios.version: PBPE2L0N.P05 So yeah ... it's pretty messed up. I can't believe manufacturers don't update their website with the latest BIOS updates ("Packard Bell Updater only checks for selected updates or BIOS versions that are considered critical to your PC.") Now I've an older BIOS version with no way to go back ... Can someone help me out? TIA

I do not work for Bell or any affiliates; just a concerned Canadian Citizen promoting the awareness of mental health. #BellLetsTalk is a great cause and I hope this doesn't violate some obscure forum rule. If it does, mods just delete the post, and I apologize in advance. If it stays up, I thank @LinusTech, @Windspeed36, and @Slick; and everyone else, of course. @Bell_LetsTalk Bell Let’s Talk Day Campaign Fact Sheet The Bell Let’s Talk Mental Health Initiative Since 2010 Bell has committed over $62 million to mental health related initiatives in Canada. The Bell Mental Health initiative supports an extensive range of programs to enhance mental health in every aspect of Canadian life. The four pillars of this initiative are: anti-stigma community care and access workplace mental health research Bell Let’s Talk Day Campaign One of the key pillars of Bell’s Mental Health Initiative is anti-stigma. As part of Bell’s efforts to reduce the stigma of mental illness, the Bell Let’s Talk awareness campaign is engaging Canadians in a dialogue around mental health. With Olympian Clara Hughes front and centre once again, the fourth annual Bell Let’s Talk Day campaign features a national multi-media campaign that culminates on January 28, 2014. Joining Clara in the Bell Let’s Talk campaign again this year are Atlantic Canada’s Seamus O’Regan, Québec spokespeople Stefie Shock and Michel Mpambara and new ambassadors, former NHL star Joé Juneau, CFL veteran Shea Emry, musicians Robb Nash and Matthew Good, and stand-up comic Kevin Breel. Together, the Bell Let’s Talk team will be working to encourage Canadians to join them in the growing conversation about mental health. On Bell Let’s Talk Day, Bell will contribute $.05 to mental health related initiatives for every text message sent, mobile call and long distance call made by Bell and Bell Aliant customers, every tweet using #BellLetsTalk, and every Facebook share of the Bell Let's Talk Day image. Recognizing that simply talking makes a significant impact to help end the stigma of mental illness, the campaign encourages people to “start the conversation” about mental health and engage in dialogue with friends, family and co-workers.       For those that lives in Canada, you ought to know that we are limited in term of the amount of Internet Service Provider (ISP) we can choose from. BELL and ROGERS are pretty much the two dominant ISP in this country. We are paying insanely high price for our internet and cable TV services (Cellular phone services too, but let's not get into that), and we even have the bandwidth limit that limits us to transfer a certain amount of GB per month before being charge extra (http://www.bell.ca/Bell_Internet/Internet_access). Their reason being to keep service quality high. THE PROBLEM So this morning my Internet, and TV suddenly stopped working. Being quite tech savvy, I manged to find the cause. My home phone number has been changed. It has changed to another number I have never seen before. So I called BELL, and after an hour of hold music, they told me that "One of our technician might have switched the cable around." Basically my phone number is with some body else and I have some body else's phone number. So I asked them when can I get this fixed? They replied calmly "Earliest we can do is tomorrow morning." At this point I was mad, and rightfully so. I demanded them to find out who it was that "switched the cable around" and have them come and fix this today, I don't care if it is off hours, they have to be responsible for their own mistakes. After an hour of holds, they said it was "impossible" for them to send anyone today, and offered a compensation. Their compensation being 1 day off from our BELL bill (like... yea.. This is NOT compensation). SO... I am paying $150 a month for their services. One day, one of their technician messed up and caused me problems, yet, no one was held responsible? I don't want an apology from that technician, I don't want to discredit him, I just want my services back. I had nothing to do with this, unless cooking bacon can messed up the cable. How can they have no response team for this? Isn't Internet bandwidth limit supposed to be for higher quality services? Just wanted to share my experience out there... and hope you guys have better luck than me. I am not letting this go unanswered
