  1. My Wi-Fi keeps telling me to log in, and when I try to, it doesn't work. I've tried restarting the router/modem, and last time, it worked for about 10 seconds. I've tried everything I can think of.
  2. I just purchased an MSI Sword 15 recently, and I was wondering if there is a way to add cellular capabilities to it with something like an m.2 add-on. I have an extra sim card with AT&T that I have been wanting to use. Is this possible? What hardware would I need to make this work?
  3. Hi everyone! I have a Samsung J7 Perx (Sprint variant) from 2017. It's been an amazingly reliable phone, but I have one pretty big issue with it... it won't make calls over LTE! I recently upgraded to the AT&T network (so much better), but the issue remains. I've read that unlocked versions of this phone support VoLTE, but there just doesn't seem to be a lot of information about it online. (Btw, I can still make calls everywhere on band 5 3g, but I worry that won't last for much longer.) Thoughts? Haha. If I can't make VoLTE work, can you recommend any good calling apps? Google Voice seems to be the best I've found so far, but I really want to use my phone number. Thx!
  4. Hi, i have this at&t Samsung galaxy s9 that is out of at&t's range so i can't update its software to the newer version which is fine, my problem is that I'm just trying to fix its camera app, it does this weird glitch that crops the image while taking selfies and its very annoying and sometimes the colours are shit af so what i wanna do is that i want to update it to the latest version that's for Samsung's android 9. Currently its at 9.0.03.22 and the update i downloaded will make it 9.5.04.6, is that possible? Can i update it this way? And if it doesn't work, how can i revert it back to the version it was?
  5. Hi guys I have this at&t s9 it is perfectly fine and runs nicely but unfortunately it is at&t branded so my question is that is there a way to update it I currently have android 9 with one ui 1.0 I want update it to the latest version so there a way like thru VPN or something or idk anything, any help would be appreciated
  6. Greetings Community, In the last few years I have fallen in love with LG phones. There are many reasons for this that I do not have time to list. I Originally purchased an LG V30 and loved it. But then a few issues emerged such as the headphone jack not working, charge port being extremely finicky, it not having been officially updated to Android 10 etc. So, I purchased a GSM unlocked LG V40. What I didn't know about this phone was it was an AT&T GSM unlocked phone that (like other AT&T android devices) does not receive any updates at all unless it is connected through the AT&T network (which I confirmed through much research and contacting AT&T). I then thought it would be as easy as flashing the factory firmware on the device, but oh no; it was no where close to being that easy. After much difficulty with getting the correct and current DLL to work with LGUP, I then went to find the correct kdz file for this device. Only then I found that the android 10 kdz file for the AT&T V405UA was no where to be found. After this I decided to try to flash the Verizon variant for the V405UA only to find the error for crossdl from ATT>VZW. So this is what I am asking/wondering: Is it possible that anyone can find the Android 10 kdz file for the AT&T V405UA? Is there another way to flash a factory Android 10 firmware/os to this phone? What my phone is currently running: Android version: 9 (Pie) Android security patch Level: January 1st, 2020 Software version: V405UA20y Model #: LM-V405UA Not sure if @ShrimpBrime would be the guy to ask or not, maybe he would know who?
  7. AT&T shelving DSL may leave hundreds of thousands hanging by a phone line Source: https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/columnist/2020/10/03/att-dsl-internet-digital-subscriber-line-outdated/5880219002/ One of America’s largest internet providers is uploading its oldest broadband technology into the sunset. On Oct. 1, AT&T stopped selling digital-subscriber-line connections, stranding many existing subscribers on those low-speed links and leaving new residents of DSL-only areas without any wired broadband. “We’re beginning to phase out outdated services like DSL and new orders for the service will no longer be supported after October 1,” a corporate statement sent beforehand read. “Current DSL customers will be able to continue their existing service or where possible upgrade to our 100% fiber network.” DSL – a broadband connection delivered over old copper telephone lines – is no prize at AT&T. The company doesn’t sell downloads faster than 6 Mbps, less than a fourth of the 25-Mbps minimum definition of the Federal Communications Commission and further cramps their utility with stringent data caps of just 150 gigabytes. But the technology that provided many people (myself included) their first real broadband still works to provide an always-on connection and far more capacity than satellite connectivity. “I'm really not surprised that AT&T is phasing out DSL, as it's an obsolete technology,” emailed one soon-be-stranded DSL subscriber, retiree Jack Mangold of Collettsville, North Carolina. “I am, however, very disappointed that AT&T has no interest in replacing DSL in rural areas with some other technology.” AT&T reported 653,000 total DSL connections at the end of its second quarter, compared to 14.48 million on its fiber-optic and hybrid-fiber services. The latter, sold as “AT&T Internet,” combines fiber trunk lines with DSL last-mile connections for faster speeds. The company has seen DSL subscribers steadily dwindle. Bruce Leichtman, president and principal analyst at the research firm Leichtman Research Group, wrote in an email that two years ago, AT&T had just over a million DSL customers. “AT&T basically gave up on fighting cable over a third of its territory” said Dave Burstein, editor of the trade publication Fast Net News. That decline has put AT&T narrowly behind Verizon in this slower slice of the market; that New York firm reported 661,000 DSL connections in its second quarter, versus 6.298 million Fios fiber-optic connections. Verizon and such smaller telecom firms as Lumen (formerly CenturyLink) and Frontier have not announced plans to sunset their own DSL. That’s a good thing for the potentially 3 to 6% of the U.S. that Burstein estimated can only get wired broadband via this technology, even if such fixed-wireless ventures as Verizon’s just-announced expansion of its unlimited-data LTE Home Internet service to some rural areas across 48 states give more people more choices. But for those customers to get faster connections, providers can’t neglect their networks. “When I was at the FCC, there was actually hope that DSL technology could be improved to provide actual high speed broadband,” emailed Gigi Sohn, a fellow at the Georgetown Law Institute for Technology Law & Policy who served as an advisor to FCC chairman Tom Wheeler during the Obama administration. “If I recall correctly, the companies were making promises of speeds around 25 Mbps or even higher.” That remains possible, as the CEO of a regional provider offering DSL over AT&T phone lines humble-bragged in a Twitter direct-message conversation. “We deliver up to 100 Mbps,” wrote Dane Jasper, CEO of Sonic. That Santa Rosa, California firm reaches those speeds by pairing DSL connections and installing its own, upgraded switching gear. In some areas, it also sells separate fiber-optic connections that can run 10 times as fast. Jasper said Sonic customers in its slower lanes don’t have to worry about their own bandwidth’s viability: “That is unaffected by AT&T’s decisions about their own network.”
  8. Summary AT&T has announced successful testing of their 20Gbps internet in their production environment using 25GS-PON which requires minimal changes to infrastructure and can utilize existing cabling infrastructure up to the customer premise. No word yet on when this will actually roll out to consumers or businesses yet however they do say they hope to bring this to "maturity" in the next 6 to 12 months so we'll see what happens in the coming months. Quotes My thoughts Sure it's exciting to see faster speeds but I doubt most end users are going to have a need for speeds anywhere close to the 20Gbps mark for a while and if they do offer it I doubt it's going to be anything near "affordable" for most small businesses or end users. Right now AT&T offers up to 5Gbps fiber for $180/month with their 2Gbps plan at $110/month and 1Gbps around $80/month (I've seen variations on this in the past year in the $60-$70 range too). Just thinking about what kind of equipment you'd need to take advantage of this in anything more than "haha speedtest go brrrrrrrr" or the occasional "steam download go zoom" right now even 5Gbps is plenty but with new technologies emerging who knows, I could be way off and in 5-10 years everyone could look back at this like the misquoted "640KB is enough for anyone" statement while going ham on 100Gbps+ internet speeds Sources https://about.att.com/innovationblog/2022/20-gbps-symmetric-speeds.html
  9. Hello everyone, I've been LTT subscriber for awhile and It's my first forum on LTT. I just want to know if there are people here experienced issues with AT&T trade-in program (or with other service providers?) When I saw $1000 note20 ultra promo at AT&T and I immediately traded in my LG G8 ThinQ in perfect condition, but somehow it was valued less than proposed $90 due to damages!? AT&T is deliberately lowering the value of the trade in (via mails only) phones below the promotion minimum and it's affecting hundreds of powerless consumers like myself. I checked multiple forums and it looks like this is pretty much widespread problem (SCAM) and AT&T will try everything to not honor the promotion. FYI: https://forums.att.com/conversations/wireless-account/tradein-scam/5f52c046c17a0638d8427b6c I've been with the AT&T for almost 20 years and I can't believe big companies like AT&T is doing stuff like this... Please DO NOT USE AT&T Trade-in program online!! You will not get the promised value.
  10. I live in a area where only at&t internet or satellite internet is available so we went with at&t. My issue is that the router/modem combo unit they provide has weak wireless capabilities and in general isn't that user friendly with its unchangeable Nat types and so on. I asked if they could provide us with just a modem and and could get my own router they said they don't have a modem just that unit and i cant use my own modem since its fiber and it requires their own. i was told i can use my own router connected to it and just use it as a sorta bridge mode on the at&t router but it doesn't have that option but i could set up a pass through and be very similar. My issue now is that im not sure how to properly set up my pass through and the guides online normally show a newer interface that i don't have or are very specific with not much details on how to get certain information. my biggest issue is that i dont understand the Subnet & DHCP settings and for the passthrough setting it shows my routers mac address but if i go into my router settings it has 2 addresses one for wireless and one for lan and id dont know which to chose as my option is only the wireless mac address one in the passthrough settings and doesnt show the lan address at all. do i have to passthrough both? i dont think i even have a option to do two passthrouh since its only has one field i can enter one address in. I feel like i might be overthinking this but i just want to make sure i get this right so i dont have to guess later on if i have network issues if it was caused by my settings. Any and all help would be appreciated. i can post images too but i dont know what information i should hide so i will provide them if someone tells me what to hide.
  11. Hello folks, I am about to move to an apartment complex in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area that offers AT&T as an ISP selection featuring their gigabit fiber service at $80/mo. Thus, I am curious if any you in the LTT community have had any experience (good or bad) with AT&T fiber gigabit?
  12. It would appear that someone over at AT&T needs some help understanding how to label technology products. In a move that is guaranteed to confuse many a consumer, AT&T will be rolling out their new '5G Evolution' to 20 Metro Areas this year. Unfortunately, this isn't a 5G network, but improvements on the existing 4G network. According to Hot Hardware, these improvements consist of: http://hothardware.com/news/atts-5g-network-service-20-metro-area-years-end-support-galaxy-s8 So while it is good that they are improving their existing network, at least if you have a phone that can utilize the improvements (Samsung S8), they really should not be marketing this as 5G service in any way as it will only cause confusion when actual 5G networks are put into place.
  13. Back in April, AT&T had announced that they were planning to acquire Straight Path Communications for $1.6 Billion in order to get a hold of their 39 GHz and 28 GHz licenses in the US as a part of their path to deploy a 5G network. Today, it has been announced that Verizon just wanted those 5G license a bit more and decided to outbid AT&T for the purchase of Straight Path Communications to the tune of $3.1 Billion. According to Ars Technica: https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2017/05/verizon-outbids-att-for-nationwide-5g-spectrum/ This would appear to give Verizon a good foothold for being able to deploy a millimeter spectrum 5G network over the next couple of years... But that is some serious cash to drop to outbid AT&T. http://www.techspot.com/news/69279-verizon-outbids-att-straight-path-nationwide-5g-spectrum.html

American Telephone and Telegraph, more commonly known as AT&T, is one of the largest telecommunication conglomerates in the USA They currently provide over 300 million people with 4G LTE networks Today, they announced that they would limit the quality of mobile video content by early 2017 Not all hope is lost though given that users will still be able to turn off Stream Saver to view higher resolution I personally don't know how to react to this though it is expected given that I'm not an AT&T customer Sprint and T-Mobile have also started doing the same thing; they aim to help users reduce their usage to avoid paying higher fees Sources: ArsTechnica, RCR Wireless

  16. Source: Ars Technica, AT&T I'm not from the US but judging from the looks of it, AT&T might be using their higher frequency bands like band 30 to do wireless broadband together with femtocells for improved coverage. Higher frequency bands may have shorter coverage and poor building penetration but they can carry more data than low frequency bands which has good coverage but carries less data. That data cap looks a lot like what my parents are using before but with much lower data cap before I switched them to fiber internet just a few months ago. My country's average internet speed is abysmal at around 3 mbps and I'm just one of the lucky ones who have FTTH (20 down, 20 up) but it probably would have been better if they deployed more fiber optic cables as a backbone and have DSL to extend services because copper is still cheaper than fiber optics. So 160 GB is probably enough for 10 hours of YouTube videos at 1080p and couple Netflix movies at 720p/1080p but not for gaming or constant downloading of games from Steam. Also, you probably should forget being a YouTuber on this wireless internet since the upload speed is terrible at 1 mbps and the data caps are low. A couple 10-20 minutes of daily vlogs in 1080p 30 fps is already at 1.3 to 2.6 GB and not to mention the waiting game because of that upload speed but I don't think the people subscribing to this are vloggers or YouTubers. Some might say this is a good stop gap before deploying nationwide fiber but I think it would've been better if they just deployed massive fiber infrastructures now to future proof America's internet and keep it fast when it's being needed even during peak times. But hey, at least the US entered the top 10 for the first time as countries with fastest internet speeds in the world with South Korea at top 1.
  17. Hello guys i have a questions for anyone who had google fiber in Miami Florida and i want to know if it is good and if it has ethernet, Right now I'm dealing with crappy At&t wifi and i can't go with either net because the Data cable port is all the way on the other side of my house, but anyways i mostly play league of legends and with At&t i get 63-72 ms 70% of the time but sometime the ms could go up to 1000-2000ms. When i get my parts for my gaming pc i would like to know what network adapters wired and wireless would be good for dealing with high ms if i still have At&T. I have these adapters listed but I'm not so sure if they are good with dealing with AT&T. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/FnrRr7
  18. Just a simple question: When we upgraded our internet to 6.5 Mbps (6 Mbps was supposed to be installed) we got a router-modem combo (that can't tell the difference between a router and a device) so we can't use our own router. All around the house and even outside the house (through the concrete walls) I get in a .10 Mbps difference of 6.50 Mbps with Ookla speedtest. I'd like to know if we get just a modem from AT&T and a good router (maybe even a repeater for my dad's 240p youtube videos) would do any better than what we have now.
  19. On Thursday, the FCC sent separate letters to both AT&T and Verizon expressing their concerns over zero-rating. For those who don't know, zero rating is when an internet service provider allows certain data to not be counted towards a general usage limit. Net Neutrality advocates are strongly against this practice, as it allows ISP's to give their own media services (AT&T's DirectTV now and Verizon's Go90) an advantage over other media streaming sites. This issue is currently at the forefront of the Net Neutrality debate, due to the 2015 FCC ruling that prohibited much of the worst kinds of behavior. This ruling, however, left rules about zero-rating programs vague. Opinion: The FCC is trying to assert itself ahead of the Trump administration, which is strongly against the 2015 ruling. I can only hope that the 2015 ruling is allowed to stand, but it should be noted the one of the Republican FCC commissioners who was against the 2015 ruling was quoted as saying: Personally, I expect that once the Trump administration is in control, there will likely be a deadlock in the fight for net neutrality. The 2015 ruling will stand, although they may choose not to enforce it as strongly as they should. On the other hand, net neutrality advocates will likely be unable to make any advances against stopping zero-rating programs. 20. Here we go again, more BS from the big ISP's, working with elected, alleged "representatives" of a local government, to stall or outright prevent any and all competition. This time in Nashville Tennessee. Considering how terrible both companies are at what they do, I see absolutely no reason to involve them. Both have extremely long and sordid histories of offering terrible service, overcharging customers, lying about overcharging customers, actively donating to any "representative" willing to help allow them to not have to compete, etc. They deserve no voice in this matter, imho. So, let me guess this straight. She voted against OTMR the first time around,, this could stall Google Fiber being rolled out, and now she says she would support OTMR? This woman needs to not be in office. She either has no idea what is actually going one (she doesn't know who she's talking to. Comcast and AT&T are scum, we all know this), or they're in her pocket. (my opinion, but still likely considering the history of corporations paying politicians to lie to get what the companies want. They call it "lobbying", sane people call it bribery). So basically, her idea amounts to making things slightly faster, and giving the companies a slap on the wrist for misbehaving, and doing what we ALL know they will do. Source: http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2016/09/att-and-comcast-helped-elected-official-write-plan-to-stall-google-fiber/ There is more to read here, but do any of us really doubt that Comcast and AT&T have anyone's interests in mind but their own? The only arguments against OTMR, are completely asinine. Mainly consisting of Comcast and AT&T saying they need to "ensure the quality of Google's work", as if either of those companies are in ANY position to ensure the quality of anyone's work. As for outages? I don't think it would matter much, I would be willing to bet that Comcast and AT&T will lose most of their customers once they realize a better ISP is in town offering a better service at a better price. Hell my workplace uses Comcast, and it gets disrupted regularly. Granted we have a ridiculous amount of traffic (installing ChromeOS on several thousand Chromebooks at once)
  21. (Wayport was an old ISP that offered wifi hotspots, they were acquired by AT&T in 2010 or something) I recently picked up an old 1U Wayport server off Craigslist for dirt cheap($20), I already know the hardware itself is crap (Even for 2008 standards) but i'm having trouble finding information about it. Specs: -CPU: Via i686 -RAM: Kingston ValueSelect 256MB -HDD: some 20gb WD IDE drive -PSU: 180W something My questions: - When i boot it up into Debian (what it had preinstalled) it asks for a Wayport Login despite the seller claiming this is a fresh install. Is this a standard login or am i hecked - What version of Debian would i need to install to get this working? (if i reformat) - Is this case a standard MITX form factor that i can install a newer mobo into? - I keep getting a "USB over-volt error" on startup. Is that fine? (only has two USB ports) Don't really have a use for this machine, Maybe a PiHole DNS server would be cool
  22. AT&T has been in the news a little bit lately over their "5G E" nomenclature on iPhones and other devices....well Sprint isn't having any of it The general feeling of consumers that are informed, is that the name "5G E" is intentionally deceptive and Sprint seems to think that such deceptive marketing is a big no no. I would agree with Sprint in this, the network that AT&T has is not deserving of even being vaguely associated with actual 5G. Attempting to call it 5G is defiantly misleading. AT&T does not see it that way however (of course). Providing this statement: The closest analog to this is when 3G networks were being labeled as "4G" (mostly by T-Mobile I think) back when the iPhone 4s was available. Sure you can make the argument that this is simply to showcase that the technology is improving.....but in the case of "5G E," no real 5G Network exists. This would not be a problem if 5G was already deployed and 5G E was a better version of that network, like what happened with 4G LTE. LTE identified an improvement in the 4G network. 5G E implies an improvement of the 5G network which does not exist. 23. Source: CNET. AT&T For 90 days the service is free but after that, they'll charge $449 for the Netgear 5G hotspot + $70 for 15GB of data. I don't think that's enough data to take advantage of 5G considering that it's supposed to have more bandwidth than 4G LTE. Also, for a measly 15GB that's expensive though considering how 5G is different than LTE when it comes to implementation, that's probably how they'll recover the costs in rolling out a 5G network. AT&T says that people can do all sorts of things with 5G like live broadcasts with little latency, VR and even gaming. AT&T is said to be using millimeter waves, more specifically 28 & 39 GHz which has so much bandwidth but easily gets obstructed by objects including rain so in order to solve it, they have to use beamforming and small cells. Remember when they said that 5G can replace wired home broadband because there's so much bandwidth left, I don't think that'll be a good impression if they're limiting their customers to a measly 15GB for $70.
  24. Source: https://www.androidauthority.com/5g-speedtest-att-938865/ Oh boy. Remember the overhyped promise of AT&T’s 5G network? It looks like the overpriced Netgear hotspot is off to a bad start. Granted those speeds are still crazy fast but not as fast as advertised not to mention not worth it for a $499 hotspot and a $70 monthly fee for a pathetic 15GB data plan. For a next generation network, the only advantage you’re getting is slightly faster upload speeds but don’t get started on streaming a game with it because you’ll be capped to 15GB.
  25. Hello! I mean... Hodor.... Sooooo, I recently got hooked up to some delicious, delicious giggitybit fiber to the house, yay! But; like so many others, I too, am looking for a way to use my own equipment instead of the notoriously unreliable, security flawed, packet inspecting excuse for a gateway... I found have so far been able to successfully eliminate the AT&T gateway (Arris NVG589) from the network and substitute it with my own (Netgear Nighthawk X10 R9000) and both internet and TV have been up for about two days meow. However... The Uverse digital phone does not work and I need help understanding how VOIP works... I am still waiting for my number to get ported over and I was assigned a temporary phone number until that happens in a few days and I am hoping to find a working solution before then. I am able to get a dial tone when the phone is plugged in via RJ11 into the NVG589 but I am not sure how AT&T authenticates that VOIP connection. The IP gets authenticated through the ONT when it sees a connection to the NVG589's WAN MAC address and once the connection has been authenticated and as long as that connection is not disconnected, it remains authenticated. But I am thinking this is most likely not that case for the phone... Can someone please help me understand the VOIP authentication/handshake process? I believe AT&T uses SIP protocol. Lastly, because the Nighthawk is cloning the NVG's WAN MAC address and it would defeat the whole purpose of the previously mentioned concerns leading to why I am trying to do this bypass in the first place, I can't have the NVG in front of my Nighthawk and I want to avoid any packets besides home phone passing through it (The NVG589); what would happen if I isolated the NVG with Dot1Q behind the Nighthawk's NAT? Could it get VOIP to work or will it break something? If not, can someone please help me find a solution? Thanks
