1.1 - Budget - Well.... I would like to keep the 3 main parts that are left under $600. (Mobo, Proc, Mem). Approximate remaining budget about $750. 1.2 - Location - Southeastern US - Near Atlanta 2. - AIM/Goal - A. Moderate Gaming with "Decent" Performance. I don't want bleeding edge as it's to expensive, and Cheapest tends to be out dated rather quickly. B. Good Bang for the Buck, with good upgradeability and possible future expansion. C. One of my favorite games is ARK survival evolved, that I play with my son on XBOX. D. Eventual goal would be to have 2 PCs that can run ARK to play together. E. White color theme - a Single color (other than white or black) would be ok. 3. - Monitors - I currently have 2 HP 24yh monitors that I will be using, but am looking to upgrade to a better monitor in the future. I also have a Samsung S24E200, that's on another computer. Not sure which would be better. Upgrading the monitor is not part of this build or budget. No plans to use more than 2 at a time. Gaming would most likely be done at 1080 or 1440. 4. - Peripherals - A. - Keyboard - I have a nice Red Dragon keyboard, and a mouse that, well works. B. - Suggestions on the mouse welcomed, but not part of this budget or build. What I have will work for now... but Christmas is coming. C. - Windows - I do have a copy of windows to use. D. - I have a CD-Rom - Cup Holder ;-D E. - Existing Parts: 1. Case - We picked out a Lian Li - LanCool II from Microcenter a while back. - White 2. PSU - Corsair - RM 850X - White 3. HDD - Bulk slow storage - WD Red 4TB 4. M.2 - Samsung 970 Pro - 1TB. 5. WHY. Well couple of reasons. Teach/show my son how to build a PC, and it would be a project we can do together. The old, old (8 to 9 years old) HP and Dell PCs that are near by, they run windows and surf the web just fine, but I tried to pull up ARK, and well, 0.2 frames a Sec was not good..... yes a graphics card may help. Extra... I don't want to pay a premium to scalpers at outrageous prices for used Video Cards. So I'm willing to get a Motherboard and Proc that has integrated graphics, just to get by, until I can find something reasonable. Yes I know there is a chip shortage, so parts that are at lest generally available is a plus. Thoughts and suggestions are welcome. Especially on where to find a new GPU at a reasonable price (close to MSRP), or "good" used GPU at a reasonable price (Below MSRP) would also be helpful. I know I'm dreaming... Thanks in advance for your help. James

So it's been almost a year and I finally worked up the confidence to show off my build. plz go easy on crit of the components as they are all budget i think in toto ~$1100 barring components i didn't already have: Mobo: ASUS PRIME WIFI mATX PSU: EVGA 650 gold full modular RAM: gskill 3200 hMHz cl16 CPU: ryzen 7 3700x GPU: EVGA GTX 1660ti M.2 : 2x 1 Tb intel 660p SSD: 256 gb kingston HDD: 2 tb also in as far as case i built it all from 1 sheet of 2'x4' cedar plywood no room for error lol... i made a couple niks in it wish i hadn't... I planned the design off of a test bench with double hinging action, the lid hinges forward while the moo tray hinges back to expose the wiring underneath and a little pull out drawer for the HDD and SSD with a slot for another SSD... lemme know your thoughts and questions (*realized I had posted this in the wrong spot first in case mods)... there is also a similar framing for the fan for the PSU underneath

okay, so i recently upgraded from a 7700k to a 5800x and my thermals seem high. with my average idle being 50c and under load like 75c. my cooler is a BeQuiet Dark Rock pro and my TIM is thermal grizzly kryonaut. is this normal with the increase in cores?

Hi LTT, Firstly I want to say: doing any kind of mods is at your own risk! Specs are listed in my signature below. Benchmarks I run: Cinebench R23 60min loop and aida64CPU/FPU 60min, personally never had to run these 2 any longer for stability. Room temp 21C Fractal torrent all fans at 750rpm D15 fans 1350rpm 1x 140mm noctua exhaust fan at 1100rpm Windows 10 Home 21H2 Quick context: 10 days ago I bought a Intel 12700KF paired with the Z690 Gigabyte Gaming X DDR4 motherboard as an upgrade for my PC. First day of running no settings were adjusted apart from updating the BIOS to F6 and enabled XMP, no overclocks on the CPU. Second day I started to test the waters on this new CPU, started at 5GHz on the P-cores and the E-core at 4.0GHz with a voltage of 1.290V, passed all of my testing. Next step was 5.1GHz on the same 1.290V and 4.0GHz E-cores, 8min into R23 it straigth up crashed(BSOD), I redid the test and it crashed(BSOD) again after 9min, at this point I accept my CPU can do 5GHz stable and I was oke with that. Something to keep in mind is, i'm pushing close to 95C at peek temps and current temps 88/90C, so i'm pretty cooler limited at this point. So I started to read/see some posts/videos on a washer mod for LGA 1700, (basically the socket's clamping force results in the processor warping/bending, adding 1mm washers under the ILM results into less stress on the ILM). And this made sense to me, when i installed the CPU and tried to lower the socket lever it was rough to push down with all the crunchy noises included lol.. Today i added the washers (1mm metal washers, added kapton tape to one side to be safe), redid my 5GHZ profile benchmarks and everything was fine, ram was picked up correctly (sometimes without or with to much pressure you can lose memory slots or not even boot at all). After running R23 Multi Core test a couple times i didn't see a temperature improvement, 2-3C lower on some cores and some went up by 2-3C so i figured this is test margins. Knowing 5.1GHz wasn't possible with regards to temps already hitting low 90's C i couldn't really up the Voltages to make 5.1GHz run stable. I ran my 1.290V again with 5.1GHz just being curious and it didn't crash during 10min loop, as before it would crash around the 8min mark.. I was kinda confused, so i looped my R23 for 60min and aida64 no crashes.., so i thought il push my luck and run the E-Cores at 4.1GHz and that was stable as well! In this picture below i purely ran the Multi and Single Core test one time each, just to show my best scores, the temps shown here are from 1 run each test! Click HERE if the image is not big enough Here's a picture of 1 Hour R23 looping It's not shown in this picture but keep in mind the Current temps during the test were below the peak temp with about 3-5C. So i'm curious what you guys think 1. Did the washer mod actually give me stability or is it something else? random? 2. How does my 12700kf compare to other 12700k/f's? 3. Am I getting the R23 scores i should be getting on this CPU? I know it was a bit of a long post and hopefully it was doable with my broken english. I'm very happy with these clocks and trying to get the max out of your hardware has been a fun ride for sure. Thanks

Hi, I am new to the community, and I'm having problems with my newly assembled PC. I have an aircooled 12900ks, and I've been receiving CPU Overheating alerts everytime I start my computer. I downloaded the Core Temp app today, and I saw that Core 0-7 are running properly, but Core 8-15 are very hot. I would like to ask if anyone is experiencing similar problem, or knows how to fix the situation? All hardware should be properly installed because I reassembeled the PC because of this problem. I am attaching a screenshot of the Core Temp tempreture reading below, sorry for it being in Chinese, but you can see the numbers are in different colors.

So I bought a pre-built system by IBuyPower, and I can't find information anywhere about their case dimensions. This is the system I have, https://www.bestbuy.com/site/ibuypower-gaming-desktop-intel-core-i7-9700k-16gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-rtx-2080-super-1tb-hdd-480gb-ssd-black/6362984.p?skuId=6362984. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this case, and knows the clearance, or you know where I can find specs for it. I'm trying to fit a Dark Rock Pro 4 in as the 120mm rad is not nearly enough to cool my 9700k well when overclocking. I've tried emailing them already and they have not gotten back to me.

HYPERCASE DM-01 This build is pretty well under way, So i will post a few current work log pics and then play catch up Don't worry there's still a ton of modding left. First off a big thanks to Mwave for jumping on board and supporting this build with some much needed hardware. A quick back story. I wanted a specific case and when it became obvious that the extreme cost and getting it sent from OS was proving to be a big fail i decided to just make what i wanted myself. Hypercase will be scratch made from Plex. No CNC or LASER work or fancy CAD programs or drawings..... just whats in my head and my hands. I'm sure some of you can relate to that last part NO water cooling i'm having alot more fun nowadays with air coolers "it's still cool to air cool" ! Currently the mod is at the final stages So how did we get here ? It started with 4 basic parts.. A base section Just a single cut and bent piece of plex A matching top section. This was made from 3 parts , 2 x bent sides and a single flat top. Then reinforce with inner braces Next was to make the spine. This was made from much thicker plex and will be triple layered later to add more strength and design. The 4th part was the motherboard tray. This will be a suspended type and will be adjustable

Air Cooling the back of your Motherboard?! So i was wondering if any of you have had any first hand experience with air cooling the back of the PCB on your motherboards with a small to medium sized fan like an 80mm for example or if you have read/seen any tests on the topic? Does it have any positive effects on your CPU/VRMs and such in terms of overall temperatures? And which direction should the airflow of the fan be pointed at? Blowing air onto the surface or "sucking" the hot air away from the PCB? Of course the design and airflow capability of your case especially in the region behind the MB does have a big impact on the results i suppose, and it will be very different for everybody. Does this concept make sense at all or is it a total waste of time? So let me hear your thoughts on the topic! cheers

Greetings, Im having a hard time picking a mobo for my build as of now I have two 2080 Ti (but im reeseling the second one because they sent me two instead of one). I want to build a gaming PC with Ryzen 9 3900 and preferably aircooled(Because I move a lot and liquid cooled sounds risky). In the end what would be the best mobo for around 600 USD for this situation. Thanks for the time!!

What is the best (best here meaning most efficient) Aftermarket CPU cooler on the market that is 58mm or smaller in total height? In a current setup of mine I have an Intel core i5 3330 in a Silverstone ML08-H slimline case with the Intel stock cooler. My problem is that the Intel stock cooler blows air downwards towards the heat sink/CPU but because of the orientation of my case and motherboard, the air basically just sits on the heat sink, trapped between the case edge, RAM, and power supply. My CPU is running pretty warm at idle and i have attributed that to this design flaw because in a previous build with the same CPU and stock cooler it ran much cooler. I've tried attaching extra fans to the case with zip ties (because the ML08-H does not have case fans) but that just made it sound like a lawn mower. I believe that If i get an aftermarket cooler, i could reverse the airflow direction by simply turning the fan over, sucking heat away from the heat sink and out of the case rather than blowing room temperature air onto it which would sit there and heat up. So back to the original question, what would be the most efficient cooler for the job. so far I've looked at this, but honestly I don't know what to be looking for other than detachable fan(s). thanks.

Hey computer fans, I have a build for you to verify! I am in the U.K (£, GBP) £1 = $1.3 US I am currently getting my build for my life here at my mums sorted out and I am working on a tight budget (£500 max, as cheap as possible). I have worked out a great (I think) build, however, as it is my first time and I'm not exactly the worlds best expert, I may have tripped up. I would like to know if: A) all parts are compatible (I think they are) B) all parts are optimal / best for the job C) if I have found the best prices for all parts D) are all cables there (such as PSU or FanHub) E) are there any better solutions at the same price F) would thermals be an issue (CPU StuckCooler in use) I have looked around for a while for best prices, but there still may be some better ones out there. Also, in terms of graphics card, I know the RX460 (AMD) is more budget friendly but I have watched some videos and the 1050 is worth the little extra in my opinion. I'm only looking to play things like CS:GO, Rocket League and maybe a bit of Planet Coaster so no spectacular requirements are an issue. I have all peripherals so I do not need any more. My monitor is 1080p. So, for the bit you've all been waiting for: the build: (Most were free shipping, so don't worry about that) TT Versa H15 M-ATX Case-------------------£34.98 GIGABYTE GA-H110-DDR3-----------------£51.57(IncDelvery) Core i3-7100-------------------------------------£99.90 350W VS Series Corsair ATX PSU---------£32.97 GTX 1050 GIGABYTE OC 2GB-------------£108.47 QUMOX 8GB DDR3 1600 RAM-------------£46.00 TP-LINK PCIe Wireless Card----------------£11.99 Toshiba P300 1TB 3.5" HDD----------------£37.97 Mr HIGHTECH Win10 Home----------------£9.99 GameMax Galeforce Fans x4---------------£15.96 Phanteks ph-pwhub Fan hub----------------£17.99 ______________________________________Total 14 Items-------------------------------------£467.79 The places I found them from are below in identicle order: http://www.ebuyer.com/711134-thermaltake-versa-h15-m-atx-gaming-case-with-side-window-usb3-black-interior-ca-1d4-00s1wn-00 http://www.pcupgrade.co.uk/productdetails.asp?productid=36178&categoryid=728 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-Core-I3-7100-3-90-GHz/dp/B01NCESRJX https://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CP-9020095-UK-VS350-Power-Supply/dp/B009X1KGXS http://www.ebuyer.com/761963-gigabyte-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1050-oc-2gb-gv-n1050oc-2gd https://www.amazon.co.uk/QUMOX-PC3-12800-Desktop-Memory-240pin/dp/B00TGPSHI2/ref=sr_1_46?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1502139069&sr=1-46&keywords=1600+8gb+DDR3 http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing-accessories/components-upgrades/interface-cards/tp-link-tl-wn881nd-pcie-wireless-card-10119361-pdt.html http://www.ebuyer.com/726222-toshiba-p300-1tb-3-5-sata-high-performance-hard-drive-oem-hdwd110uzsva https://www.mrhightech.net/operating-systems/3571-microsoft-windows-10-home-0885370909784.html https://www.amazon.co.uk/Computer-Silent-120mm-Galeforce-iCHOOSE/dp/B01FXJBH72?th=1 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Phanteks-PH-PWHUB_01-system-fan-hub/dp/B00M0R05WE It may not be the most interesting build or forum post, but feel free to brag about your builds and give me any criticism, constructive or not. Hi guys and gals. Alright. So, ive been down with this path once before- a while back i bought an MSI 1080 8G GPU, but about a year ago i moved everything to be watercooled. Got a very nice, almost a silent system with neat OC capabilities. (my i5-7600k is running at a steady 4.8ghz + 150hz on the 1080) After watercooling i've got a nice beefy (for its size) GPU fan system standing on my shelf with no use. So, as i understand the different Nvidia GPU's assembled by the different suppliers (MSI, ASUS, Gigabyte etc. etc. [you get the idea]) are each providing with they're own take on (usually) air cooling fans to get the squeeze the maximum amount of performance out of the given card they can get. Alright, so get to the point finally: If i buy a cheap(er) blower type card and strip it down to assemble new EK blocks on it- can i expect the "same" performance as like a top tier air cooled card (with overclocking) or am i missing something one the small scale too? The core GPU card underneath of the given cooler is the same, correct? If so, then one could save actually few hundred(!) bucks comparing the cheapest blower vs top tier air cooled and applying watercooler block on it. (yes, MSI Sea Hawk is an option but where is the fun in that) Thanks! K. (my first post)

Upgrading from a compact Corsair crystal case, my gpu would overheat with triple A games after a long play session, blue screening. This is with 1 case fan getting messed up after a cleaning. The new case is the view 71, my plan is 2 cpu fans on a AIO exhausted, 1 exhaust fan 140 ml 3 140 ml fans in the front, should I get another fan on the bottom for exhaust? I heard I should do positive pressure for this case, with the gaps on the side, top, and front

I recently bought the I9 9900KS due to the all core 5ghz and i am looking for a cooling solution that will keep the CPU all core 5ghz within a safe range when it comes to the temps and thermals. I have heard a lot of people say just to run this CPU that you need a AIO but i called Intel themselves and the representative told me that a AIO is not needed but a cooler that can handle a TDP of 250 watts. I see no reason to overclock a powerful CPU that can run a all core of 5ghz but at the same time i need a cooler that can handle the load just in case the CPU hits that 5ghz all core. What is your suggestion Linus? I have watched videos where you have basically said that AIO's are not necessarily better than Air coolers but have yet to see one where you do the comparison on a I9 9900KS and the results of the test.

Hey Hey Hey! 1. Is DirectX 12 available with the graphic card? 2. Is the founder's edition good to buy? 3. My whole setup is grounded 100% properly. Will the I5 8400 thermal throttle if I use air cooling? Or I should go for AiO instead, its about double the price and I only stream for 3~4 hours per day. Please help

This probably isn’t suppose to be in this category and a stupid question but will fans spin if you don’t have a cpu installed on your motherboard. I want to test the rgb fans I got but currently don’t have a CPU.

Hello there forum. I recently purchased a Define R6, which I'm very, very happy with. I've also recently acquired a 8700K that is baller as hell compared to my old 3770. But the Noctua Dh-9L cooler I have doesn't really cut it and I want to run my CPU colder. My temperatures are fine at 65-71C after a few hours of gaming but I've decided I want better cooling anyways. Then comes the age old question of aircooled or watercooled. I'm well aware of the pros/cons of both systems by themselves, I just need some input on what would fit my application the best. It all comes down to my case and how I've configured it. I'm running three GP-14 intake fans(two front and one bottom) and one GP-14 as exhaust(back). This is fairly effective of cooling everything, plus the added bonus of less dust buildup due to the positive air pressure. EDIT: I returned my 8700 non-K and got an 8700K. So here's my actual question: If, for example, I run a 280mm cooler up top, pushing air through the radiator and out the top as exhaust. Will I have to add another intake to keep positive pressure in the case? Alternatively, if I remove the rear fan and use the radiator fans as exhaust, will my cooling really be that effective? My case isn't particularly hot inside from what I can tell. My aircooled alternative is a something like a Noctua DH-15 with the fan pointed towards the rear exhaust and the top port closed off, like my current setup. Thanks in advance! Here's a picture of how it currently sits. I do not run any HDD's in the bay except for one at the very top which doesn't block any airflow. It's completely open behind the cover.

I am wondering what would be some good options to cool an i7-8700k. I would like to be able to do some overclocking without thermal throttling, so an good cooler would be idea. Also any recommendations for fans would be great. Thanks
