Friend asked me for help to revive his laptop, his hdd died months ago and replaced it with a blank one. got him a bootable Windows 10 USB Flash drive to do the reformat created a GPT partition with 180GB. upon installing the said OS it should restart automaticall to begin the actual installation, but that's not the case for this laptop, it gets stuck here. see: https://photos.app.goo.gl/ZyDnHFx8np96kaXk6 I pressed ctrl+alt+del to force a restart. went into the bios via F2 and saw only the HDD and DVD drive but I did saw Windows Boot Manager in the boot override list which as far as I know shouldn't be there. I restarted it again with the hdd still on 1st boot. still nothing it gets stuck with the blinking cursor I took out the only hdd and powered it back up and Windows Boot Manager is still in the list of the override I think it's one of the cause of the problem. not quite sure how to troubleshoot this since it's my first time encountering such issue.

I'm having this issue of my "F" not working. It started happening two days ago. I was typing in Microsoft word and suddenly my "F" was not registering. I pulled my F key from keyboard and gave it a clean up, I thought it was dust. It still didn't work. I restarted my laptop and F was working fine now, I thought it was a bug. Now again, I was surfing the web that suddenly F key stopped working again. I noticed it was working in my media player as a action but was not typing in any application or browser. I launched On-Screen keyboard, to my conscious, Windows was not registering F key, Though the physical aspect of fault is dismissed. Then I noticed that I have recently updated my windows and it started happening right after that. I defaulted my keyboard settings. Updated my drivers but windows is still refusing to register "F" key until and unless I restarted my laptop. I don't turn off my laptop every time I close it, so it is very annoying for me to save all my work, restart my laptop and do the work again. I have tried every troubleshoot, but restarting is the only option. If anyone else is having the same problem and have a solution for it, I will appreciate it. I'm afraid in future if another key locks out that includes my password, I will be locked out from my system or restarting wont fix the issue one day. I have tried, Virtual keyboard, Bluetooth keyboard, external wired keyboard, laptop keyboard replacement, refreshing my windows, defaulting my settings, nothing works so far.

I am essentially the I.T. guy for my office (I intern at a research center that's just 4 biologists). There was a computer which was brought from an employees house and was working just fine there (I saw it working fine just a few days prior). The moment it was connected cia ethernet to the office network it was beyond slow(took 5min to fully load a 5mb picture of our NAS), Then decided to fully stop detecting any network. I've tried tethering through my phone, wifi adapter, different ethernet cables, brought it home and nothing. When I use trouble shoot launcher it says"Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy setting" **also the the network adapters show up in device manager just not the "change adapter settings" in network and sharing center and when I right clikc in it it just says "The Network Connections Folder was unable to retrieve the list of Network adapters on your machine. Please make sure that the Network Connections is enabled and running." Long story short: *Windows 7 computer was working fine *brought to office to use here and wouldnt connect to any network *no network adapters show up in "Change adapter settings" Any input /help would be amazing! thanks, your local tech addict

Hey together, i've been fighting with freenas and 10gbe for a while now and sometimes it gives me hope while mostly it's depressing as hell. In my signature you can see the Boss-NAS i'm using. rn it's equipped with an Intel X540T2 10gbe network card. One port goes to the Netgear XS708E 10gbe Switch while the other one goes (for testing purposes) to another Intel X540T2 in my Test-PC that has an i5 2500K and some MX500 SSD or whatever and runs Windows 7. The other port of this PC also goes to the same switch as the FreeNAS goes. Theoretically i'd have two separate 10GBe connections now but in the real world it's nothing like that. Doing Iperf (as well as Crystal Disk Marks to the RAID0 SSD's or the NVMe SSD) it gives me ~3.5gbe on the read side and 8.5gbe on the write side. That isn't reflected in real work perfomance either but i think the issue here is probably the SSD in the test PC. Here's the iperf i did: first one is PC client p2p second PC client over switch third PC server p2p fourth PC server over switch As you can see it doesn't matter if it's connected p2p or through the switch, read's always s*ck while writes show there is enough bandwidth actually. I DID get a real 10gbe connection between the PC's once with a p2p SFP+ connection where i could see my RAID0 SSD's going to full 1gb/s in both reads and writes but now that i've "upgraded" to a full 10gbe RJ45 environment everything seems to be collabsing. I DID also enable MTU 9000 on both ends just not the switch as that apparently has that set automatically and i can't find it anywhere in the setup. Even worse is the fact that my other PC, a 2600K with X540T2 and Windows 10 doesn't even remotely reach that but stays at 3gbe in both directions, even just from PC to PC without the NAS (switch in between obviously) So please, does anyone ( @Windows7ge) have an idea why everything is to terrible? lol. EDIT: What i think i'll try next is connecting the freenas with my SFP+ Card to the single SFP+ Port on the Switch and from there go with RJ45 to the X540T2's on the Test PC, as SFP+ once upon a time gave me 10gbe.

I am looking to downgrade from windows 10 to windows 7, the purpose of this is because I am tired of all the bugs and limitations found within the newer version of windows. My questions are as follows; What are the quick pros and cons of downgrading? How should I go about installing the old OS? My computer came with Win10 pre-installed Where do I start? Thanks for your time

I just reinstalled windows 7 onto my computer after my old drive failed. For more storage alongside my boot drive (4x 240gb kingston a400 ssds in raid 10), I installed a 500 gb crucial p1 nvme ssd in a m.2 to pcie card, and after I installed windows and went to disk management to format the drive it doesn't show up. I don't know know if there is any settings i have to change or any drivers I have to download. I've tried to research how to make it show up, but I haven't been able to find a solution, so I thought I'd ask here. Any help would be appreciated. Specs: Cpus: 2x Intel xeon e5 2660 motherboard: It doesn't have a model number that I can find, but it comes with the lenovo d30 4223 ram: 64 gb ecc 1333 ddr3 gpus: amd rx 580, nvidia gtx 470 storage: crucial p1 500gb sdd, 1tb wd black, 4x 240gb kingston a400 ssd in raid 10 psu: delta electronics 1100 watt 80+ gold

Compaq Presario CQ60 Processor: AMD Sempron RAM: 4GB HDD: 500GB I'm trying to install windows 7 onto an older laptop. It was originally running on windows xp, but was updated to 7, and then to 10. Now on Windows 10, it's barely functional, so I've been trying to reinstall windows 7. I couldn't boot from a USB drive on the laptop for some reason, so I put the HDD into another laptop and installed it. When I put the drive back into the laptop in question, it only displays a command prompt cursor. What I tried: Memory Test, passed. Changing BIOS options to boot using Legacy only (There's no bios options available, apart from boot order.) Resetting the CMOS I'm not sure what else to do here.

As today is the very last day before Windows 7 supports ended, I would like to take this opportunity to wallow in my room and cry over. Anyway, what impact does Windows 7 have in your life? For me, probably good riddance of Windows Vista. But while everyone goes for Windows 7, I took the less path travel, which is to go for Linux (Ubuntu to be exact). I didn't use Windows 7 much in my life. Well, let's get all the good vibes and fill this thread with all the best memories that Windows 7 had brought to us. Let it be a sweet end for a remarkable Operating System.

So basically I have a GPU (GT 730 from ZOTAC) [2GB, GDDR5] which suffers frequent driver crashes even on the desktop, and the strange thing is that the driver crashes only on Windows 7, 8, 8.1 (not on windows 10). Initially, I overclocked it a little, but now I have stopped doing that, but the problem still persists. The GPU runs on 2506MHz Memory clock rather than 5000, the most probable reason being the PCIe 16x slot of my PC. (Gen 2; old PC; used) After thorough checking and testing, I came to the conclusion that the GPU doesn't run hot, nor does its memory become full (at least on the desktop) Oh yeah, by saying "it doesn't crash on windows 10", I meant that its frequency of crashing is really low, only when its really doing something. And that makes sense, but its a different story for Win7, 8, 8.1. It crashes even on opening Chrome tabs, file explorer windows, applications, Youtube, casual games (CS:GO, BF4,etc.).The frequency of crashes is noticebly higher than Windows 10. [I Know that this card isn't meant for Gaming and all but c'mon, the driver crashes where it really should not.][the card performs satisfactorily for me atleast.]. I've already cleaned the card thoroughly several times, just to be on the safer side, no luck. Driver version used: 399.07 (and some immediate previous ones) What I didn't try: --> using very old drivers --> disabling the Windows Aero (Win7) Please I want you guys and gals to suggest the next logical step I should try. Thanks!

So i bought a windows 7 product key on ebay. But after i got the key, i found out that it could only be used for activating win 7 inside of windows 7 and that i couldnt use it to create an iso file for me to boot/install from. I know with win 10 you can get an unactivated version. does this also exist with win 7 so i can still activate it.

I just installed the EVGA Z370 Micro into my rig and from a hardware standpoint everyhting is great, all my stuff installed right first go, all the drives are recognised, ram was good, etc. Then I tried booting into windows. Dispite recognising all my drives it refuses to boot past the bios, doesn't even consider it. Ive tried the Win 7 install thing and everything, Ive disabled literally every option but the boot drive, I've reset the CMOS many times, toggled the BIOS switch. Nothing seems to work. Can anyone tell me what Im doin wrong? I give up... Edit: I've got an 8600k and as previously stated am running Win7, I've already patched it to play nice with the 8th gen processors

So I ended up getting an old compaq presario desktop with windows 7. Been trying to access for a few days now. Did the back door sethc process to reset the login password but it won’t log into windows. I get a warning message that it can’t find a server. So I’m guessing this computer wasn’t never disconnected from its local domain. My question.. How can I delete it from the server if I can’t fully access windows? Another back door approach?
