As part of the efforts to raise revenues in the country's 2020 draft budget, the Lebanese government will start charging for VoIP 0.20 USD per day. This charge will be effective by 01/01/2020. The country is in a state of economic crisis and this decision was approved because the fee could potentially bring up to 250 million USD in annual revenues. "The country has only two service providers, both state-owned, and some of the most costly mobile rates in the region." I wonder how this is going to work in a world where VPNs are a thing.. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-lebanon-economy-calls-idUSKBN1WW1ZA https://finance.yahoo.com/news/lebanon-plans-charge-whatsapp-calls-140931579.html UPDATE: People are demanding the government to risen and the whole country is rioting.

So I got two Chrome-based browsers (chrome itself and Torch) which are otherwise fine but as soon as I open some media application (like VLC player, Whatsapp Web etc.), the browsers start stuttering/lagging every few seconds. But it doesn't happen for all the things, other media like Windows media player, the Steam client, etc. do not trigger any lag in the browser. Microsoft Edge doesn't suffer this problem, only chrome-based browsers do. The issue started only after the 1903 update. Anyone else having this? Any solutions? Oh and I already did that sfc /scannow command via CMD, didn't find anything to fix. Have been installing all the minor updates to Windows since 1903 promptly, and my GeForce drivers are also up-to-date. Can't seem to figure out what's causing this...

If you don't want to see the opening go to the next paragraph. Hi Guys, been looking at the newer apple products recently and have been swayed to at least try an iPhone out due to getting some IPAD pro's at work, which I quite liked the speed of. I have always been a die hard Android fan, but recently looking deeper into the grasp that google has on me I find myself wanting to completely change. To add some context, I found the "My Activity" tab. It labelled things such as every search, my location, what apps I used and when I opened them. This was all a bit strange to see and yes I know that this information will be use to provide you with services, but this seems to be deeply integrated into Google. The topping on the cake was that I am using a Huawei P20 Pro. The technology is amazing, but the software and stuff is of course still android and with the EMUI skin. With the recent troubles with Huawei I am eager to move away from them. I know there may not be any evidence of anything being done but it will always be in my mind. So I ask, has anyone successfully switched from Android to iphone and not gone back. I ask this cause I currently have an iPhone 7 Plus to play around with and by what I see I will be having problems with WhatsApp specifically as I apparently cannot transfer the chats?!?! Now I do have alot of chats on android which are all backed up to the drive. I can't help but think its a shame to not bring them with me. It has historic chats with people close to me, partner, family, friends etc which I would have to start all over again. Is it worth giving this up to get into the apple eco system? I wouldn't mind as much but once you log into the WhatsApp on another phone it locks you out on the original app. What would you do? Please No Android vs iPhone arguments as I don't want anything to get out of hand. Thanks for your help.

Hello, im looking for an application to record voice calls of whatsapp and IMO. if there is a single app that can record calls from both apps it will be great but i dont mind having different applications for each app. i want the voice of both parties to be recorded reliably so that it will start recording when call starts and end recording and save when the call is ended. Thanks

Hi there I'm currently trying to set up an iPhone for my grandmother. She owns a very old Android Phone, with Android 3. As we tried to transfer her data with the "move to iOS" app on the Play Store, we ran into an issue. When trying to install the "move to iOS" app, it always ran into an error. Because I couldn't transfer her stuff with the app, I just set the iPhone up as a "new iPhone" and decided to transfer the files later. This wasn't too much of a problem: emails, the calendar and the contacts could be transferred flawlessly. But the Whatsapp chats turned out to be much harder. After talking to her, we've decided to move all the Whatsapp photos and videos to her computer and copy only the Chat histories. I've tried to transfer the history with Google Drive, but I wasn't able to. The iPhone couldn't download the fresh Backup from Google Drive. And because the files are hidden on Google Drive, I can't easily download them to implant them into the iCloud Drive. After that, I tried to download the Chats from the local storage of the Android phone, give them a new name. I basically did the reverse of what the FAQ page of Whatsapp is saying. (Link to Page: https://faq.whatsapp.com/en/android/20887921/) Rename the backup file you want to restore from msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt12 to msgstore.db.crypt12. It's possible that an earlier backup may be on an earlier protocol, such as crypt9 or crypt10. Don't change the number of the crypt extension. The new file, I copied into iCloud Drive. But upon activating Whatsapp on the iPhone the Backup file didn't show up. Has somebody a clue how I could possibly synchronize these Chats? (If possible without any additional software.) It would be great if somebody knew how the Backup of Whatsapp is stored on iCloud Drive. Thanks for your help AliSot2000

Hello, recently I tried to take a Whatsapp videocall, but I could not hear my partner. He could not hear me either. My Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus rooted the Audio through the phones speaker, although the dongle of my Arctis 1 was connected with my Phone. I can't replicate the same issue with the Samsung Note 10 Plus wich belongs to my Wife. It works on her phone perfectly. I tried googling another solution, but found no answer that helped. Maybe someone can help me? Greetings from Germany

WhatsApp testing new label as part of steps to tackle fake messages It all started with a fake video of child abduction from pakistan where two people try to raise awareness on child abduction but was taken out of context. Quote- "A CCTV footage of a little boy being snatched away by two motorists has been doing the rounds in TN, ‘alerting’ people about how kidnappers are operating in the city. The video incidentally is not from India, but was an educational video made in Karachi. The video which is at least a year old was made in Pakistan to warn parents about child traffickers." Source- https://www.thenewsminute.com/article/child-kidnapping-video-spreading-panic-tamil-nadu-actually-pakistan-81160 This was then said as 200+ traffickers entered the state of Tamil Nadu which enraged people and made them take suspicious looking people as kidnappers and killed them including a 65 old women getting lynched. This also spread to the city of Bangalore, third major city of India and a man was killed there too. Bangalore police now also has taken initiative to stop fale news via twitter Source - Following the mess, government of India forced WhatsApp to take action against fake news, to which the company replies - Quote- “We have been testing a new label in India that highlights when a message has been forwarded versus composed by the sender. This could serve as an important signal for recipients to think twice before forwarding messages because it lets a user know if content they received was written by the person they know or a potential rumour from someone else,” WhatsApp told the government adding that they planned to “launch this new feature soon”. Source - https://indianexpress.com/article/india/to-tackle-fake-news-whatsapp-to-govt-new-label-safety-ads-police-interface-mob-lynching-5246199/lite/#referrer=https://www.google.com&_tf=From %1%24s https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/horrified-by-terrible-acts-of-violence-whatsapp-tells-government/article24329188.ece Update - "RS Prasad, the country’s current Union Minister for Law and Justice, and Electronics and Information Technology, called on WhatsApp to focus on security-related aspects of its service last week, as India is its largest market with more than 200 million users." Link - Also, quote - "WhatsApp responded the same day, saying it wanted to work with the government to tackle the spread of fake news. One of its major initiatives kicked off today, in the form of an ad campaign in national newspapers in various languages, that lists a number of steps people can take to battle misinformation." Image from WhatsApp update linked below. WhatsApp is introducing a reward based system where "researchers" will flag messages and if forwarded will have a flag on it saying if it's reliable or not. Quoute - "That seems to be different from the upcoming ‘Suspicious Link’ label, which has been spotted in a beta version of WhatsApp’s Android app by WABetaInfo, and labels messages that include links that may redirect you to different sites entirely" Source - https://thenextweb.com/in/2018/07/10/whatsapp-begins-its-difficult-battle-against-fake-news-in-india/?amp=1#amp_tf=From %1%24s Update #2 - Starting from 11 July WhatsApp rolls out flagging forwarded messages. Quote - "Starting today, WhatsApp will indicate which messages you receive have been forwarded to you. This extra context will help make one-on-one and group chats easier to follow. It also helps you determine if your friend or relative wrote the message they sent or if it originally came from someone else. To see this new forwarded label, you need to have the latest supported version of WhatsApp on your phone." Source - https://blog.whatsapp.com/10000645/Labeling-Forwarded-Messages

I've been using the Windows 10 desktop version of WhatsApp for quite a while now. The app has stopped showing desktop notifications - both the banner that flashes and also the highlight in Action Center. Is this an isolated issue just for me or do other users face the same as well? I can still hear the notification sound, but can't see the desktop notification banner. Both these alerts used to be functional when the app got launched.. Also, 1. I have checked all notification settings in Windows - all app notifications are allowed and priorities set to their defaults. 2. WhatsApp desktop notifications are enabled in the app's settings page. I also tried installing the downloadable version from WhatsApp's website and also the UWP version from Windows store (I hope "WhatsApp for Desktop" with a weird thumbnail for the desktop icon is the official one). Both the versions seem to carry this bug now. Any solutions? All the other apps that have their notifications enabled work fine. Windows 10 - reset and multiple re-installations of the said apps have no effect either. Let me know how or if it works for you guys (assuming people use this XD) Praveen.

So... I opened my WhatsApp on my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 only to see the weirdest bug I've ever seen. It was showing me that I was apparently living in 2054. Also, apparently one of my friends had seen a message in 1924. I checked the calendar and the dates were fine over there, I restarted the device and it still didn't change. Could this be a virus, is anyone else experiencing this and is there any way to fix this?

Everyone in the EU had been getting emails from every company they have signed up to in the past informing us of their updated privacy policy and trying to get us to opt in to marketing in preparation for GDPR which came into effect today 25/05/2018. Non EU citizens have likely been getting them too. GDPR is the EU's new flagship regulation designed to limit companies power over your data and how they can use it. It also is enforced by huge fines of up to 4% of a companies global turnover. http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-44252327 Google and Facebook accused of breaking GDPR laws on the first day the came into effect. Also sites that are not targeted at EU citizens (such as US news outlets) are starting to block EU citizens from accessing their services though fear of being fined by the EU. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-44248448

Hey guys as some of you may have noticed HMD global, announced today that the NOKIA 8110 is becoming a successor called 8110 4G. It will be operated by KaiOS, and that's where my question marks bump up... I know that the hardware specs are not comparable to a "true" smartphone, but would it be possible to install WhatsApp or other regular apps on it? Thanks in advance!

My Samsung S5 broke down and I did a backup of it using Samsung Kies 3 before sending it for repairs. My phone had about 7 gigabytes of data, excluding android files. Photos, videos, settings, apps, etc. . Now my question is why when i go to the backup location on my PC the total backup is only 3 gigabytes. Should i worry, was the backup not completely successful, are they compressed? Also, if i checked the box to backup all apps, does it also backup Whatsapp mesages? Thank you in advance!

Earlier this month WhatsApp announced that it would only continue to support Blackberry's Android powered Priv handset not the BB10 Operating System at the end of 2016. Today the leader of BlackBerry’s App Ecosystem and Developer Outreach team Lou Gazzola announced that Facebook will end its support for the BB10 OS too, which means user will now have to log in to Facebook via the website. BlackBerry said that it was “extremely disappointed” in Facebook’s decision, because “we know so many users love these apps, We fought back to work with WhatsApp and Facebook to change their minds, but at this time, their decision stands, Despite this, we have worked hard to ensure our end users have the best experience in light of this decision, and are continuing to search for alternate solutions.” Source 1 Source 2 Source 3

So after some rumors and a lot of speculation, the Brazilian Congress issued a request in order to shutdown whatsapp for 48 hours, starting at 9pm Eastern tonight. WhatsApp being the MOST used application by something arround 93% of the brazilian population, "they put the internet on fire" as a lot of people say here in brazil. With the popularization of cheap smartphones and many cellphone carriers offering unlimited access to whatsapp with cheap prices per month, whatsapp became very, very quickly the Main communication tool in brazil, as well as a lot of corporations and small business use whatsapp as the main front door, on my job for exemple, about 90% of our costumers come from whatsapp. The reason behind this blocking are kind of being throwed around there, some say its because the police needs to investigate some pedophilia case, because of the encrypted nature of whatsapp, it is near impossible to track people and messages from it, others say that its because whatsapp its an "unregulated service" providing "unfair competition" for the cellphone carriers, i personally think that offering a better service doesn't imply unfair competition, but still, it is beyond my opinion. The fact is, twitter, and facebook are on Fire right now on brazil, people are all over the place talking about how it is bad, and how it is wrong, but for now, what i am going to do is sleep, knowing that tomorrow will be a easier day at my job since whatsapp is down, and i even don't use this thing. i always hated it since the start, i don't know how popular whatsapp is in the rest of the world or how many of you care, but there it is, gimme your opinions about this, bellow i leave a link for a more "trust worthy" news site so you guys can have your own opinion. source: http://techcrunch.com/2015/12/16/brazils-congress-has-shut-down-whatsapp-tonight-and-the-rest-of-the-social-web-could-be-next/?ncid=rss

WhatsApp is coming to the desktop, thanks to a web client that launched today for Chrome and Android. Reached by The Verge, WhatsApp confirmed earlier rumors, which pointed to a newly live page at web.whatsapp.com. "The primary use is of course still on your phone," a spokesman said, "but there are people who spend time in front of a computer at home or at work and this will help bridge the two." Your phone will need to stay connected to the web for the client to work, and all user messages will still reside on the phone, but WhatsApp is hoping the client will give users more flexibility. A spokesman said the company plans to bring the same experience to iOS, although the timeframe is still unclear. Detailing the features in a subsequent blog post, the company said, "we really hope you find web client useful in your everyday lives." With more than 600 million users, WhatsApp is one of the largest chat clients in the world, and the app's growth has fueled rumors concerning the company's next move. In November, WhatsApp partnered with Whisper Systems for end-to-end encryption, bringing strong security to an unusually broad user base. In December, the company'splans for voice-calling were revealed by images scraped from WhatsApp's public site, although the company has yet to publicly release the feature. So I have a Lumia 925 which has no memory card slot so everything is stored on the phone memory. My whatsapp automatically saves every pictures received in any conversation thread. I have bunch of photos in my family's conversation thread and I would like to backup everything to my mac. The problem is I'm not seeing the phone as removable drive whenever I connect it to my mac. Before this I had no problem with my previous Lumia 620 (it had memory card slot) I was able to view it as removable drive.I've also set my phone to automatically sync my phone camera roll to OneDrive but unfortunately I can't for the whatsapp folder because of the app limitation I think. Anyone know any solution/how to fix this?
