Hey guys, I was in a dilemma between whether to get an i7 6700k or an i7 6850k. I have never built a computer, but as an engineering student, I will probably use it more for things like CAD and Solidworks and Photoshop than gaming. But thats not to say that I won't be gaming, I WILL MOST DEFINITELY be. Now Ill be getting them for about the same price (+$80 CAD for the 6850k). Which should I get? Should I try to get the over-powered for my needs 6850K or get the batter gamer 6700k? How much more do you think id spend on the required motherboard and other components for the 6850K as compared to the 6700k. Please let me know!

Hello fellow masters of the PC race, This is my first topic and I am in the midst of building my first custom PC. My AIM for this build is to have the best value for what I pay. Meaning hitting the right spot of amount of money spent for performance. This computer will mostly be used for all sorts of gaming, from Moba to FPS to AAA games. However, I will use the PC for some 3D program such as Autodesk Revit as well as rendering software such as V-Ray. Budget is quite flexible so long I get the best for what I pay for. Peripherals I can decide by myself. Monitors will be depending on the build of the PC I guess. After fumbling through countless reviews and recommendation and research, I've come up with 2 builds. The main difference is in the CPU and GPU. I can't decide which is better value for the performance that I need and would like the opinion of the experts in this forum. i5-6500 & GTX 1060 - https://pcpartpicker.com/list/dtxNsJ i6-6700k & GTX 1070 - https://pcpartpicker.com/list/8FTqNN Thank you in advance for the help given.

https://pcpartpicker.com/user/1bluisin/saved/8LcxrH Hi everyone, I'm planning to buy all my parts tomorrow from Microcenter, Amazon, and Newegg. I would like your opinions on my choice of parts. 1. Budget I would like to spend a max of $1500 dollars but I am willing to go a couple bucks over. 2. Aim A computer that will last a couple of years with room to upgrade. Has the ability to game, edit movies, and 3D animation at full 1920 by 1080p or 4k in the future. 3. Monitors Need help with this. I would like FULL HD ISP monitor with at least 60hz under $200 preferably from LG or ASUS. The price of the monitor is SEPARATE from the total price of the computer budget. (Late Christmas gift from family) 4. Peripherals Wifi Card and Bluetooth 5. Why are you upgrading? My Lenovo Laptop bricked and I'm now using an old MacBook.

I'm building a pc with a tight budget and need to pick out a graphics card for around $200. There's two I'm currently considering: RX 590 8g Sapphire Pulse RX 590 8g ASRock Phantom Gaming X Any of you have experience with either these cards? Any other GPUs I should consider at this price-point?

Hello. I've been in the market for a new CPU recently, as I have been getting into 3d modeling and I believe that my current i3-6100 will eventually need to be replaced anyway for better performance. Specifically, I've been trying to get a decent mid-range CPU for around 100-200 USD. I boiled my options down to these CPUs: Ryzen 5 2600, Ryzen 5 2600X, i5 9400F. I have no idea which one I should buy, as they all cost around the same. Keep in mind I am using this PC for gaming as well. So, which one do you think I should choose? I am open to other suggestions for what I should get, preferably CPUs that are affordable.

Hi guys I'm planning a new build for a friend, but his budget is really really small Under a €100 (his family isn't very rich and he's saving up for his driving licence) There's a really nice 2nd hand shop near me and a guy I know who works there can hook me up with either an i7 860 with a board for €15 or an i5 2400 full system with 4GB RAM for €60 I have a 460W PSU from on older HP machine with a 6 pin connector and a case and 4GB DDR3 laying around, and we can get 4 more GB for €5. I don't know what PSU the other system has but it should be fine and I have the other one for him anyway. So what would be better? An i5 2400 for €65 or an i7 860 for €20? And how fast of a graphics card should I get for him? I thought of r9 280X or 7970 but those require lots of power. Would an old 460W from Delta be able to power those and a HDD? Or should I get a GTX960? Will that be fast enough for eSports titles and such in the coming 2 years or so? Will the VRAM be a big issue? Or do you have any other GPU suggestions? Sorry for the long post but I want my friend to have the best rig he can for the little money he has. Thanks for your advice

A friend of mine has asked me to upgrade his CPU, since it has an old FX 9590. Since he mostly does heavy multi-threaded work (FL Studio) and some light gaming (he has a 1050-Ti) I thought that the 2700 (non-X) or the 3700X were the best choices. Now, obviously, the 3700X is a much better CPU, we all know that, but the problem is that he doesn't want to spend too much and the price difference is quite a lot, 360€ for the 3700X and 207€ for the 2700. Searching around it seems that the gap in performance isn't that much to justify a jump of 160€, basically 1,5 times the 2700 price. Now, he said that if it's worth it he can spend 160€ and take the 3700X, but I don't want to make him spend what would cost the whole upgrade with the 2700 just for the 3700X if it's not worth it. So from the research I've done it seems that the 2700 has a much better value, at least in this case, but I wanted to also ask here, since I wanted to be sure. What do you guys think?

Hi guys I want to buy a new GPU for my Ryzen 5 1600 system. I've found a deal for a GTX 1070 ROG Strix at 200 Euros, a 1070 Ti Gigabyte Titanium for 250 Euros, and a GTX1080 Gaming X listed at 300 Euros that I might be able to get down to 275. For someone who saved up ~600 with 300 of that available for his GPU at the most, which one of these would be the best value, considering my R5 1600 and playing at 1080p? I want to be able to use the card for atleast 3 or so years without really considering upgrading. Sorry for the long story and thanks for your advice Edit: the 1070Ti is 265 but I will probably be able to find one for 250, and the 1080 is 280 after some negotiating. Which would be the best dollar/frame? Edit 2: I've found a Vega 64 for 300 and a Vega 56 for 175 and a few for 225 I think the Vega 56 is the best option then (correct me i if I'm wrong) I have a TX650M with a Ryzen 5 1600 ,2 7200RPM HDDs, one Sata SSD, one DVD RW and 2 case fans with my R5 1600 at 3.8GHz Will a TX650M be able to handle a Vega 56 with the rest of my system? I had a weird issue where it would turn off with my old 7970 but I don't know if that was due to power constraints or if there was something wrong with the card

The MSi B450-A pro board (£68) I have is going back to the retailer due to them telling me it could take 6 Sata AND M.2 at the same time...it switches off 5&6 when M.2 used but the board has also seemed quite unstable.. I need all the Sata ports.. The retailer has offered me a few choices...An AsRock Taichi X370, MSi B450 AC Carbon wifi, MSi X470 Pro Carbon ( £15 - £40 - £50 more each board). I know the Carbon is only 6 sata too but the addition of AC wifi is appealing. 'Value' is a big concern here...otherwise I would just buy a Crosshair VII lol. I have all the components in my signature below and it's mainly used for Total War games (Warhammer 2 mostly). Is the Taichi just too old or is it basically the same as the X470? Any other 'value orientated' suggestions would be accepted happily. I'm not a big overclocker, not going to need add ons that are just not needed but might be for an overclocker... Thanks in advance. still showing a Silverstone GD08 case but now using a NZXT 500

Hi guys Should I buy a 1070Ti evga sc for 220 euros or a 1080 Gigabyte G1 gaming for 250? The 1070Ti still has warranty but the 1080 doesn't Which one would be better value?

https://www.amazon.com/HP-23-8-inch-Adjustment-Speakers-VH240a-x/dp/B072M34RQC?th=1 This is the HP VH240A 1080p 24" 5ms IPS monitor for 110 bucks. Obviously its not a "gaming" monitor but is there a better option for the price or for slightly more? I have a GTX 1060 and a Ryzen 5 1600 so is there a point in investing in 1440p 120Hz displays? The games I play are usually something like The Division 2 (casually), Civ games, Hitman etc... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hello everyone! I lost my original account but i been here for awhile, sadface. Anyway, recently some life issues have started nipping away at me, and a friend and i decided to pool our resources. We plan on moving, sharing an apartment, and of course getting jobs, but we want to do streaming as well, hopefully one day as a full-time job. Currently we plan to dedicate 2-4 full days depending on our money situation to streaming, and will be streaming everything from simple 2D titles such as Stardew Valley and Starbound, all the way up to VR titles like Beat Saber, A Township Tale, and PavlovVR. Firstly, i'm going to be selling my current rig as it just cant keep up with the demands of streaming or even 1080p recording at a steady framerate. But it handles everything else like a king as far asi'm concerned and has really astounded me every day i play. I checked the value on PCPartPicker and got an estimate of $778.84, with several parts not included as i didnt manually input pricing. I was wondering if anyone would have an estimate of what i could sell for; again, the estimate is without all parts valued, but i was hoping to meet my goal of ~$800: i7-4770k OC @ 4.3GHz Gigabyte GTX 1070 FE OC +120/+180 Ballistix Sport 1600MHz DDR3 RAM 4x8 OC @ 2000MHz Gigabyte Z97-HD3 v2 Blanking on brand of PSU, but 500w Bronze certified Currently planning on keeping drives but may put a 250GB SSD into it to sell with Windows not included Noctua NH-D15 CPU Cooler third-party case, no label on it, average wear USB 2.0 4-port expansion card Will include Razer Deathadder and Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2013 and yes, i plan on shipping it with the stable overclocks unless buyer asks for otherwise And i plan on upgrading to a bit of a costly system that my current estimate puts at around $1600-$1800 depending where i buy: i7-9700k Asus RTX 2080 O8G Dual-Fan OC Edition Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3200MHz C16 RGB Pro 2x16 Gigabyte Z370 AORUS Ultra Gaming Corsair CX Series 550 Watt 80 Plus Bronze Certified Modular PSU Like i said, keeping drives; but adding ADATA SU800 512GB M.2 2280 drive for boot and important data I have my own copy of Windows 7 thats already been upgraded for Win10 upgrade Noctua NH-U12S 120mm CPU cooler Rosewill Gaming ATX Full Tower Thor V2 White/Black ASUS Xonar AE B077DGQFTF for my Razer Tiamat 7.1 V2 headset (NOTE: I dont know much about sound cards, hugely welcome to suggestions on this one!) Will also be buying Razer Deathadder Elite and Razer Ornata Chroma Like i said, we're going to do streaming and probably recording as well for youtube uploads, on top of the regular and VR gaming, and may be doing it for extended periods of time. So the questions i have are; at an estimate, what do you guys think i could sell my old rig for, and do you think this new rig is okay and worth the money, or am i messing up somewhere along the way? Thank you all so much for the advice on this one, its really appreciated!

Hello ! I am trying to find a way to evaluate a used phone that I might buy before doing so. In computers I can use system info to determine the CPU, RAM, GPU and can use software like crystalDisk mark and info to make sure my drives are good enough for the price and use that as basis to negotiate. But how can I know that when it comes to a mobile phone ? (lets say a new one like an S8, which I am trying to buy in fact) can someone help ?

So I am currently in the market for a new 2k monitor and with some research, I found two high-quality motherboards; the Acer Predator Z271U and the ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q. The Asus monitor is $200 dollars more than the Acer one and I was wondering what the difference between the two are, other than the curved screen of the Asus and the IPS vs. TN. Are IPS vs. TN that different in price? The Acer TN panel also has the same number of colors, same refresh rate, same contrast ratio, and even more brightness, net even mentioning that it has less power consumption and quicker response time (due to TN). If the Acer Monitor seems so much better why is it $200 dollars cheaper? Any help appreciated!!

Good Day folks, What with the release of the RTX series of cards, I'm looking to try and snag a used GTX 1080. I'd prefer an MSI GTX 1080 Ti Gaming X, as it would best match the theme of my current rig. What is a reasonable price point, in Canada, for these cards? Thanks for your time.

Hey guys, I wanted to know what your guys’ opinion would be on the value of this laptop? https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B015PYZ0J6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_k5hvCbPVX4E0S I bought it at the end of 2015 for some classes I took, but also wanted something for some light gaming (I was pretty pissed with how much better the 1050 mobile was when it came out haha) in CS:GO and Rocket League. Another thing that really annoys me is that Vega 11 is basically on par with the 960M. Anyway, I’m done with my classes and I have an iPad and a desktop; this is literally collecting dust doing nothing, and with the release of RTX laptops, I don’t want it to depreciate anymore than it already has. So I was thinking I might list it on Kijiji/Craigslist for $350 (Around $270 USD)? I feel like that would be a pretty great deal, but I obviously want to make back as much money as possible. So what price would you guys think would be the most I could get for this?

So I'm building a somewhat budget HTPC/gaming box, and at this point I'm down to an SSD purchase as the final bit. There seem to be a good variety of brands available at this point. I am aware that the Samsung drives are the best, but not looking to drop that type of cash on this setup. I'm looking in the 480-512gb range, something that won't get filled up too fast but isn't excessive. Amazon has some ADATA, SanDisk, Kingston, Pioneer, Crucial, and Silicon Power drives in the relative price range I'm looking at, about $53-69. I have experience with most of those brands but not all. As best as I can tell, the vast majority of these are 3D NAND type flash, although I'm not informed enough to know the pros and cons of each type. Is there much of a difference given the same flash storage type? Any of those brands I should shy away from?

I was helping someone I know buy a good all-around monitor. They told me they had bought a 27" 1080p monitor with FreeSync for about $300.00. Needless to say, I believed they could have gotten way more bang for their buck. After about an hour of going through dozens of tech specs, I found this - the "ACER V277U" (Acer Website) (Newegg Sales Page ). I was AMAZED that a 27" 2560 x 1440 IPS monitor with a 10-bit panel could cost as little as $250.00 - $270.00! The fact it had adaptive sync was an added bonus! So here I am with my non-gaming monitor checklist: < $300.00? Yes. 2560 x 1440? Yes. 27" diagonal? Yes. 10-bit IPS panel? Yes. some sort of "sync" ( wasn't looking for this feature but hey, I'll take it!)? Yes. I am looking at this monitor thinking it is hands down the best value as long as you aren't looking for a high refresh rate. The catch is I have seen other monitors with this resolution and 8-bit panels selling for much more. I can't help but wonder "What is wrong with this monitor?" The ONLY thing I can think of is that Acer was trying to market this as an HDR monitor (since it has a 10-bit panel), but didn't pass the VESA 400 standard since it only has a peak brightness of 350 nits. I feel an in-depth Linus-Style review is needed for quality validation Let me know what you guys think out there! - Erik

Greetings (data)travellers! ? The challenge is simple: Create a plan for building and maintaining the cheapest possible NAS solution (10tb+ storage and redundancy of your desire). I'm trying to figure this thing out myself, because I'm on a really tight budget and I'm curious to see what you'd suggest! have a great day/evening!
