  1. I am wondering what monitor I should get. I am looking for something not to expensive that is 1080p or 1440p. I would like an IPS display and I am looking for a monitor that would have low input lag and response time for games like csgo. I currently have a small DYNEX tv for my build as I do not yet have any other monitors. Also, how good of a response time do you need for playing csgo comfortably with out any issues? All help is appreciated, thanks. My build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/gKjF23

  3. So I've been looking at monitors today, and I'm kinda torn. I want the low refresh time, but I really love having the IPS for the colors. I am going to be playing some CSGO as well as other games, which is why I want the low response time. A lot of monitors are around 21-23 inches, have a 5ms and response time, and IPS. How much of a difference does the IPS make? Is it worth it for games like CSGO to have the 5ms repsonse time and IPS, or should I sacrifice the IPS and go for a lower response time like 4ms and below? Thank you for any recommendations, all help is appreciated. My build:http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3PDPpg
  4. I am thinking of buying and build a PC for the first time. I am coming from a console background. These are the parts I am thinking of getting: Case: NZXT Source 210 Processor:AMD FX-6300 (3.2 GHz) GPU: MSI Gtx n750 TF 2GB Memory:Crucial Ballistix Sport 1600 MHz DDR3 (2X4GB) Motherboard: MSI 970 Gaming-R Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm 1tb Windows 10 Is there anything I should change? P.S. I have some friends that can help me build and setup the PC.

  7. Hello everyone, I'm kinda new to the whole "forums" thing. With that, I was exploring time capsules today (the kind your bury). I did a bit of research about how you had to keep your capsule airtight, waterproof, etc. Even with that research I still had questions about time capsules that would approve or disapprove of my time capsule strategy. So, my idea is to build a large metal box (air and water tight) and store things in it like a computer, ssd(s) with information on it, technology of the day, articles of advancement, money, books, and maybe so memorabilia. I want to have a time capsule that lasts anywhere from 50 to 200 years. The main issues I have with this decision is: Will an SSD (or SSDs) last that long even if they aren't rewritten? Will a computer and it's components last that long? Should I bury it in a place or keep it above ground in case I (or my future family) move? Well... Those are my question and this is my first post on this forum (and forums in general). Thank you to anyone who answers my questions or contributes to the conversation. -Octaviothefirst / Max (Also, I don't know if this should go in a tech discussion since this post talks about SSDs and other tech)
  8. Ok so I just posted something a couple mins ago asking about a HDD warning in Defraggler and someone told me to download Crystal Disk Info to see whats going on. (Thanks for that) Anyway, Crystal Disk Info says the following: Health Status: Caution Everything is fine exept for the Reallocated Sectors Count: ID: 5 Attribute Name: Reallocated Sectors Count Current: 86 Worst: 86 Threshold: 5 Raw Values: 000000000194 What does this mean? <---- (Not Double Rainbow Reference) How long will my drive last? Which HDD's would you recommend? <--- (I've heared Seagates have high failure rates) What temp should my drive be at? I'm running a Hitachi HUA721010KLA330 with 1 TB of storage. Anyway, this is my Steam drive so I'm not THAT worried about backing anything up but I'd still like to know if I should be prepared for a soiled HDD. All help is appreaciated! Thanks!
  9. As my title says I am a first time pc builder and I'm trying to get the best bang for a buck PC for around 1000$ (preferably under) I already have a mouse, keyboard, and monitor so i don't need any of that. I did some researching and throw this build together (http://pcpartpicker.com/p/jBCxJx) I was wondering if this build would work and should i just get a GTX 970 is it worth the hundred dollars more? Thank you in advance for help.
  10. Last night my dad threw out the idea of water cooling my system for Christmas. I like the idea of water cooling my system, because hopefully it'll be quieter and I'll also need a new case. I'm a little nervous about the idea of water cooling it, because I've never water cooled a system before. I've never used an AIO water cooler, and my dad wants to jump right in to custom water cooling. The case I was thinking of getting was a Phanteks Enthoo Pro. I'd mount a radiator in the top and in the front. I'm not sure what size to put in the top, but minimum a 240 rad. I'm also not sure if I'll be able to get 2 SSDs and 2 HDDs in the case and still put a rad up front? Here's my list of unsure-ness: What size rad in the top? I need a 5.25" slot for a DVD-ROM. What size (if any) rad in the front? What fans to use? What res to use? What pump to use? The pump would ideally mount directly under the res. They should both ideally be able the fit the res mount in the rear of the case. Tubing? Fittings? Compression fittings are ideal, please. Is the case good? Other cases should be around $100 US. CPU Waterblock? It should include hardware for both AMD and Intel, so future CPU upgrades are possible with the same block. GPU Waterblock? I have the Sapphire R9 280. I'm not sure if it's a custom PCB. A universal block is ok. I'm willing to use a Swiftech AIO and expand it to the GPU, as long as the pump had enough pressure. EDIT: I'll probably repost this in the future, I just want to get a general idea.
  11. There are just so many series I want to watch! But also a ton of daily uploading YouTubers I watch, school stuff to do, sleep, etc., etc.... I can't watch anime at school and since I go to school by bike I can't use that time either. I also hate dubbed anime and thus can't play games and watch anime at the same. Buying manga to read at school would be way too expensive and most of them don't have an official English/German release. Please help me! (╥︣﹏᷅╥᷅)
  12. Hello community of LinusTechTips! It's been quite awhile since I've been on here, 6 months to be precise. Anyway, in a few weeks my PC will be about a year old and I think it's about time I overclock my GPU to wear it out until I save enough for a better card which will be most likely the 900 series. I opened up MSI Afterburner and Core Temp and I have no idea were to go from here... Excuse me if I'm a noob at overclocking but we all got to start somewhere. Providing the specifications below, I need some suggestions on what to increase in MSI Afterburner. These are my current settings for MSI Afterburner and my PC temperature running at idle. 14. So when i boot up my PC from a cold boot to desktop the system flies right through post taking around 10-15s before the windows login screen is displayed. But strangely my POST times take longer upon restarts for no apparent reason. This happens even when there is nothing scheduled or requiring a restart of windows. So when i restart the POST times take 20-30 seconds before finally reaching the windows login screen. This didn't happen until i clean reinstalled windows 8.1 and i'll be doing an clean reinstall with windows 10 sometime soon in hopes it might fix this but i doubt that will solve the problem. I'm guessing it might have something to do with the BIOS or even perhaps some piece of hardware. My motherboard is an ASUS Maximus Hero VI and other details of my system are in my signature. Thanks for anyone who can offer me some help to this strange problem!

  17. Pebble Time Review Couple of weeks ago I received my Pebble time. While the shipping process was relatively painless it how ever was not cheap. To give context this is my first smartwatch that I have ever used. None of the other smartwatches in the market didn't really excite me because all of them lacked in one major aspect. either its the battery life or performance or design. For me the most important thing a smartwatch should excel at is delivering the notifications and messages from my phone to my wrist. And just like the original pebble and the pebble steel, pebble time does this extraordinarily. Just having the option to glance at a notification and deciding to dismiss it or react to it on the watch itself or to pull out the phone is such a paradigm shift that I never thought I would enjoy that much. Speaking of watches, how good is it at showing the time?. If you never connected the pebble time to a phone and just have it on your wrist it would function admirably as a regular watch. With the pebble times color E-paper display you can always see the time without having to do any flicking motion or pressing buttons. Where most other smartwatch screens fail when there is an abundance of ambient light, Pebble time screen shines during the day time. Literally. The light reflects off of the E-paper display and shows you the information. but not to worry there is a backlight that comes on when you press any button that can also be set to turn on with motion. although I have that feature turned off. While the screen is very good at displaying what ever its supposed to, How good it looks is somewhat debatable. Here is what i think.because of its low contrast and probably low refresh rate it's not good for displaying pictures or watching videos. That is certain. But for what the color e-paper display is used, I think it's perfect for this use case. Where most people would knock some points off for a lackluster display I applaude Pebble for making a conscious decision to go with a E-paper display rather than a OLED hence not compromising on one of the best things about this smart watch. its battery life. Since I have been using the Pebble time I have realised that it has been designed from the ground up to be the best in class when it comes to its fuel economy. Technical specs aside Pebble Time lasts for just over seven days for me. I’m not the person that gets hundreds of notifications a day, but from my experiance with it I can tell that it should last for at least four days for the most heavy user. That is double the time that you can get from a android wear smartwatch at best. That’s impressive. So what can you do with seven days for battery life on the Pebble time? Time smartwatch sports the latest operating system that uses the all new “Timeline UI”. Essentially it will show you agenda in three categories namely Past activities, Present, and Future. Using the Up and Down you can see the past and Future respectively. For me calendar appointments showed up on the timeline and that was all I needed. Im sure there are many more apps you can get that hooks in to this function. When a notification or a text message is received to the pebble time, you are greeted with the usual set of options to interact with it. For example it gives you the option to reply to a text message with a preset message or with voice. which i will talk about soon. For IMs like Facebook messenger you also get to “LIKE” that message. Oh and it can also reply with emojis as well. This also brings up a gripe that i have with the notification system on both the pebble side and android in general. there is no way to get back to notifications that you have dismissed. Also once a notification is dismissed on the phone the pebble time has no way of knowing that it has happened so it continues to display it and gives the user to interact with it that eventually leads to a fail. I wish someone would find the solution for this already. As I mentioned earlier pebble time has a built in mic that allows you to dictate replies for text and IMs. If you have ever used s-voice and thought that it's worse that crap, fear not its actually good. while i'm not sure what kind of a back end service it uses to do the voice recognition I know that it works surprisingly good. It was able to consistently and accurately pickup my words even in a noisy environment. I think it speaks to the quality of the mic and the voice recognition service that pebble is using. Though keep in mind that just like Google now Voice will not work without a live internet connection to your phone. All is well up till now, but there are some shortcomings to this well rounded smartwatch that I have to talk about. For starters the built quality is between the original pebble and the pebble steel. which is to say that it was a lot better than i thought it would be knowing that it was not a steel version. But the buttons was a big disappointment for me. Button placement did bother me at all. It was the tactile response or the lack thereof. the only worse buttons that I have used is on my nexus 7 2013 tablet. Also I wish there was a way to feel which button I was about to press with a small bump on the middle button. I can't believe they missed that. This pissed me off a lot. The plastic/rubber coating on the metal bezel seems to easily scratched off. I had a huge gash at the end of the first day. and after that I gave up hope on trying to keep it unscratched. But there are some good news. The Glass screen is holding up very well despite me bumping it on to metal surfaces quite a few time. Since I have been using this product I have been asking myself “who is this for?’. Well I think there are two types of people that will be satisfied with this. People that want something that will last for days on battery and deliver notifications to their wrist without looking too bad. And then there's the iPhone users that don't want pay a the price of a decent Android phone to get a Apple Watch. I you are in one or both of those categories then the Pebble TIme is for you.
  18. Hey Guys You have probably seen millions of these but I really need help with this PC First Time Build. I have no experience from building but I know the specs of things and if they are compatible but I can't figure out what to do. I am putting together a parts list at a price range of ~1000-1200. I need to have all the basics in the build (WiFi,Bluetooth) but seriously need performance as I will be participating in online tournaments and don't want to rock up looking like a total schmuck with a scrubby HP Pavilion G6. Another few things if can be put in the budget is LED's or other things that make it look cool(Green,Black and Blue Theme gonna spray paint the graphics card. Really like Team Red so stick to that if possible but willing to go Intel for higher FPS. I intend to play games like Chivalry and PayDay 2 in Highish settings with a solid 50-60 fps. I do have a relatively large Steam collection. Really want recommendations from people who have these parts or people who have better similarly priced components The Specs so far are as follows: AMD FX 8350 4.0 Ghz 8 Core Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO Asus M5A97 AM3+ Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB DDR3-1866 Kingston SSDNow V300 120GB Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200 RPM MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr Thermaltake Chaser MK-1 Full Tower (Really like this case) Corsair CX 500W 80+ Bronze Certified LG CD Player Thanks So Much Nicholas Meyer

  23. As my Windows 7 installation is getting older, I have noticed that my boot screen (the one with the 4 colorful blobs becoming a logo) has increasingly been taking longer and longer. I have already done the obvious optimizations: SSD, remove unused services, fix BIOS... I also have a RAMDisk that is designed to function as a TEMP location, this RAMDisk doesn't save/load, it starts fresh every time. Now the issue is this: I have a second, slower SSD in my exact same PC, and it's done with the blobs before the blobs can even touch eachother. My main SSD, the faster one, managed to do this too but has increased overtime: as the blobs have touched eachother, it takes atleast 5-10 more seconds! Main SSD speed: http://puu.sh/hNeNc.png Second SSD speed: http://puu.sh/hNf2L.png As you can see, the second SSD is about half the speed of my primary SSD, how can it be booting Windows 7 quicker? I'm obviously not looking for the fresh reinstall solution...
  24. im looking for games with massive maps (doesn't matter if they are land based or space based), and that i can move around free do whatever i want and i'm not looking for just new games any game qualifies here i want something to spend tons of hours playing it. p.s. it can be any type of game rpg, fps, racing, crafting or even survival any game is ok examples: just cause 2, assassins creed black flag, the elders scrolls skyrim, minecraft and gta 5 thanks a lot
  25. I want to take a bunch of screenshots on my Android phone but I want all the screenshots to display the same time in the header. Instead of having to go into date and time settings every time the time changes I would prefer if there was a way to install an app that in a way, "freezes" the time on the phone so that it never changes, or maybe just have it listen to the time and every time it changes, change it back to the time desired. I know this may sound like a stupid idea, but I would really like to know if any resident developers here think it's possible to do, especially given the many added APIs for lollipop. Thanks.
