So I built my PC a few months ago- less than a year old and everything is still on warranty. About a month ago I noticed my screen went black, and the GPU fans got really loud. I know for a fact that the it is just the gpu fans because when I physically stop them my computer goes back to being its silent self. Thinking that it was just asleep, I tried to wake it up. No success. This has been occurring about twice a week at random since then. I know it is just the GPU because when I'm in a skype call, or listening to music, I can still hear the audio output from the computer into the speakers. The computer is also responsive, because it will make the normal system sounds you get when you press random keyboard keys. I talked to the people at the hardware store and they said they'd need to test it to confirm I'm not lying. HERE'S THE PROBLEM: The GPU runs fine under stress. 4 hour Furmark test confirmed that. The screens just go black and the GPU fans get loud at random. There has not been a single BSoD WHAT I'VE TRIED: -Unplugging it and plugging it back in -Driver update -Older driver install (problem occurred both with Crimson and whatever driver there was before it) I'm afraid that if I have the hardware store check it out, they wont find the problem, and I'll just end up looking like a conniving asshole trying to take advantage of their "equal or better value if outdated" deal to get a newer AMD card. BY THE WAY: The card is an XFX R9 290 Black Edition Thanks for the help

Asus r9 390 Strix not functioning properly - not posting
LimeCordil posted a topic in Graphics Cards
A hiccup in the upgrade process Yesterday I bought myself a brand new Asus r9 390 Strix edition GPU. I was very excited until my system didn't post. This was bad. Very bad. There's about a 10% chance that the system posts. When it does, everything is fine until you run absolutely anything which has the potential to be graphically intensive like a game or a benchmark. When it doesn't post, I get the following error codes displayed on the motherboard: D6 - No colsole output(s) detected B2 - Legacy option ROM initalization I have taken the card back to the place of purchase (CPL) and they were able to boot several times, as well as run FurMark and the entire 3DMark suite of benchmarks. They came to the conclusion that my motherboard may not be compatible with the new GPU. Because of this, they aren't obliged to replace or refund the GPU. I've done about 20 minutes of research to check the compatibility of my motherboard and the card but have found nothing on the topic. I have also tried updating/resetting the BIOS, using only one stick of RAM, resetting the CMOS, re-seating the card, reinstalling the graphic drivers. My system work perfectly fine when using my other graphics card (HIS 7850). My system specs are: CPU: AMD FX-6300 @ stock (3.5 Ghz, 4.1 Ghz Turbo) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Nepton 240m Motherboard: Asrock 970 Extreme4 RAM: (2x4gb) Kingston HyperX Fury, (2x8gb) G.skill Ripjaws GPU: Asus R9 390 OC Strix Edition HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1tb PSU: Silverstone Strider Plus 80+ Silver 850w Case: Thermaltake Chaser A31- 16 replies

I have recently been researching on Newegg and Amazon, and have decided to upgrade my pc, i wanted to know if it´s actually worth it, or not. im gonna buy Powercolor r9 380 on crossfire (that´s 2 of them), an intel i7 5820k, a gigabyte motherboard and 16gb Ram to do some HEAVY editing. Is this upgrade from my old r9 270x 2gb worth it, or should i buy another GPU? i´m not worried about the CPU or RAM, only about the GPU, since i wasn´t sure wether to buy r9 380 or r9 280x (Because of DX12 compatibility issues in r9 2** series). P.S. Becasue of some shitty law in my country i can only do shipments below 190 dollars, so the GPU´s have to be below 190, not all of them combined, but individually (e.g. i can buy 4 r9 380´s since i can order them on separate shipments, each shipment being less than 190 dollars . Fell free to leave any suggestions about what RAM i should use (DDR4), or what MOBO. thx!

Hey guys I'm building my first computer and need help on debating if it is worth an extra $100 to buy the 390. I can afford either card and what PSU would you recommend. I would be playing on a 1080p or 1440p monitor not sure yet and the games I play aren't the most demanding but would it be worth buying the 390 for future proofing?

So I've been looking at graphics cards a lot lately for friends who are building PCs. One thing I've noticed is that... the sexy reference cooler AMD designed for the R9 3xx re-badges is NOWHERE to be found. sure there are the one off ones made by AMD themselves, but why are reference cards by companies like XFX still using the old design? Hey, So I'm building a PC for my cousin and he want's a good GPU to use but only has £300 which is about $446, I was going to get a GTX 970 but then heard about the VRAM issue and got put off of it, I then started looking at R9 290's and to be totally honest I have no idea what to get now. He wants it to be able to run all the upcoming games for the next year at least but he is mainly worried about it running the new "Star Wars: Battlefront" and the upcoming "American Truck Simulator". I know that it's going to need 4GB of VRAM as that's the average that all the current game's ask for. So I was just wondering if anyone could help me here and also tell me if the 970 issues is as bad as it sounds? Thank you for reading, any help would be much appreciated. Merry Christmas.

I have a question to you guys. I want to buy a R9 390x card and I was going for a Sapphire card. But I live in Europe where the difference between a 390 and a 390x is about 130€. And I was wondering if the price difference is worth the product. Or should I just stick to the 390 and save my money?

Basically I'll soon be building a gaming pc and i wanted your guys' opinion on what I should invest more money on. These are the 2 hypothetical builds: i5-4690k/r9 390x/8GB 1866mhz DDR3 i5-6600k/r9 390/8GB 2400mhz DDR4 They are almost the exact same price and all I really plan on using this pc for is gaming (I actually also want to use it for some video editing and programming and unity but most of the intensive tasks that the pc is going to be used for is gaming. plus anyone of the two is a huge upgrade from my current pc, which handles these tasks well enough, it just can't handle gaming). Having said that, is it worth it to get a not-as-good graphics card in exchange for a better cpu? As far as I know the i5-6600k is not a ton better than the i5-4690k in gaming (it doesn't make that big of a difference) but having a 6th generation skylake processor could be a good thing for "future-proofing" so that If I ever decide to upgrade my cpu for a better one that is a 6th generation one, I won't necessarily need to upgrade my motherboard or ram. Then again, as far as i'm aware, having a 390x over having a 390 does have a more noticeable impact on your gaming experience. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance for any help.

I am looking to finish off my (budget) gaming PC with a GPU (finally) now that I have the money. Was going to buy a gigabyte R9 380 but now the 380X has been released and I am not sure whether to spend the extra money on that or not. The 380 is about £180 and the 380X at about £200. I am buying a Gigabyte not a Sapphire as my case doesn't support wide GPUs (Its a Corsair Air 240). Want anyone's opinion on whether the extra £20 is worth it for about 3-4 frames difference (from what I have seen).

Hi there, -XFX FX-777A-ZNF4 Radeon HD 7000 Series; AMD; Radeon HD 7770; 1000 MHz; CrossFire; 2048 x 1536 pixels; 2560 x 1600 pixels (FX-777A-ZNF4) -Intel Core i7 i7-4790K CPU (Quad Core 4GHz, Socket H3 LGA-1150) -Asrock Z97M ANNIVERSARY MATX Motherboard Socket 1150 (Intel Z97, 4x DDR3, 4x SATA III) -HyperX FURY Series 8GB (2x 4GB) DDR3 1866MHz CL10 DIMM Memory Module Kit - Black -EVGA 500B 500W 80+ BRONZE PC Power Supply -LiteOn IHAS124-04 24x SATA Half Height Internal DVDRW Drive -Seagate Barracuda 3.5 inch 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB 6GB/S Internal SATA Drive -Fractal Design Core 1000 Series Micro ATX Case As you can probably tell, my PC is severely bottlenecked, with my GPU not being up-to-date with my CPU. I was thinking of buying an ASUS GTX 970 STRIX for Christmas, and it's around £260 here (roughly $380-$390), but my friend recently offered me an R9 290X: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00G6LDB58?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_ldGCwbPTZPEJN (This is the exact model) for around £170 (roughly $250). Which one do you think I should go for? Keep in mind that my PSU is only a 500W PSU, and the card is a reference, 300W TDP card. I know that the GTX 970 is slightly better, benchmark-wise, but I'm not sure whether the price difference is good enough to go for the 290x or not. Thanks to anyone who replies!

Hello there, I am scrounging the internet for a worthy power supply to put into my new build with a 4790k and a R9 390. Many people have said 650w is plenty for the 390. Please help me in deciding which one is best for gaming hours on end with those components. #1) Seasonic S12G 650W 80+ Gold: https://pcpartpicker.com/part/seasonic-power-supply-s12g650 #2) XFX TS 650W 80+ Gold: https://pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-power-supply-p1650gts3x #3) Antex EarthWatts Platinum 650W 80+ Platinum: https://pcpartpicker.com/part/antec-power-supply-ea650platinum Link to my build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2bP8pg Yes they are all none modular power supplies because that is what has been recommended by all the people I have seen build in the case I will use (Fractal Design Node 304), if you are wondering why, it is because when mounted fan side down the cables will come out on a side that is not interfering with the GPU and modular power supplies have plugs that stick out and may interfere. I am personally leaning toward the Antec Platinum because of the high efficiency rating and how ever much money it could save me in the long run. Anyway, any help will be greatly appreciated with informing me if any of these are bad, good etc. Also if none of these "work" for any of you I will gladly take any suggestions. Thank you!

Hey guys, So everyone now is recommending the new R9 3XX series of cards that are set at pretty high prices. But the R9 2XX series cards are here with much lower price tags and pretty close performance to the R9 3XX series. So is it too late to buy an R9 2XX card? Should I upgrade my R9 2XX card?

Hello all, I have an R9 390 I'm generally very happy with, performance is brilliant, however it does tend to get a little hot; especially when playing Witcher 3. One issue is definitely that I keep my room a little warmer than normal however that doesn't really account for it; the temperatures are 51-54C at idle, 78-84C in-game. I've included a photo to show what I think the issue might be. I'm using a Noctua NH-C14 at the moment which sits right in the way of both exhaust fans and also blows hot air down onto the motherboard leaving the hot air from the GPU with no-where to go (see attached photo). I was wondering whether changing the cooler to a Kraken x61 might improve the situation by at least a few degrees, do you think it might help? I want to go dual card when the 390 starts to get overwhelmed but I'm not sure that is sensible with these temps! Any help would be much appreciated.

I was browsing around NewEgg for another forum topic, and while searching for "R9 Fury," I spotted a new species in the open. Spoiler Now, I know ASUS made an announcement regarding to this back in early-to-mid October 2015, but there was no word of it since then. Specification-wise, it is exactly like the regular R9-Nano 1000 MHz Core Clock 4 GB HBM Memory Small form factor Three DisplayPort, and one HDMI output port etc I am unaware if ASUS has made any further improvements on this (i.e. custom PCB), since there is still not much information on this particular R9-Nano. Would have been pretty neat if the PCB was white as well. Seems like they were deciding on how the side facing logo / decal will look like; I can't find any photos on the final product decision... Spoiler Anyways...for science! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814126049&cm_re=R9_Fury-_-14-126-049-_-Product https://www.asus.com/Graphics-Cards/R9NANO-4G-WHITE/overview/

Hey guys, quick but important question: I own an Asus R9 280x DCUII TOP that has minimal artifacting and I KNOW by research that its because of VRM overvoltage in the video card bios. The default should be 1.5V wich even afterburner sees as default but in the monitor it shows 1.6V wich is what is causing the artifacting. I cannot set it lower for some reason, what should I do? The artifacting is REALLY minimal, I can live with it perfectly but sometimes I prefer to be safe and find solutions for what can get worse over time. Here's a screenshot of MSI afterburner:

Hi. I was wondering what is the better graphics card. I will be playing games such as Far cry 4, Skyrim(Modded af), Gta v, Lol, cs go and many other games. Can you recommend me some cards? I do not know what else to say so I hope you have a good day and thank you in advance!
