Hello all, I'm in need of a wireless card for a rig I'm working on. My budget is $20-30 bucks at most, trying to stay as cheap as possible. Please and thank you Also, what are the key points of what to look for in something like this?

Hey all, I am ordering myself a pair of Beyerdynamic MMX300 headphones tonight or tmrw and I need some advice on a sound card to drive these puppies I am thinking that I could get a USB sound card with it's own power brick (aka not powered via the USB bus, only digital data going across USB) so that it can have a nice high current beefy amplifier inside. And obviously I am considering an internal PCI-e sound card, but not really sure what ones I would want to look at. My question is; Should I go with a mid/high end USB sound card or a mid/high end PCI-e sound card? Thank you very much p.s. I know nothing about sound cards so forgive me if anything I said was completely wrong

Anyone know where i can get a Male to Male solid Black PCI-e 6Pin connector? No combo just 6pin, I have a CM Silent pro M2 and i hate the flat style PCI-e cables (very hard to flex horizontal) The PSU is modular and the modular input for the PCI-e is the same on both ends, like i can plug ether end of the cable into my GPU and viseversa with PSU.

Hi guys, So i just bought the Xonar Essence STX. Let me cut to the chase, I installed the card onto my system, plugged in the 4-pin connector, booted up the system, went to Asus Support to download the latest driver compatible with Win8, execute the driver. The installer first prompts me to make sure that I have the internal power source connected before continuing, I select Yes, and went ahead with the install, agreed with the terms and agreements, and the error message tells me that I do not have the soundcard in the system, and the installer therefore could not go any further. From there I tried troubleshooting, but to no avail. I went to Device Manager and discovered that the problem device is the PCI Standard PCI-to-PCI bridge. I don't know what that meant. Clicked on properties, resources, and it says Standard PCI-to-PCI bridge cannot start because it has a problem (or something along the lines of that, it DOES NOT, however, say that it does not have enough resources. And just to isolate the problem I disabled the onboard soundcard, but that didn't help either. The device itself was built pretty flimsily, with a screw on the PCB that is not fastened properly and the PCB screw hole is already worn down that the screw cannot fasten itself onto the PCB. ) I am not sure if this is a problem with my motherboard or soundcard. Please help! Sorry for the long message guys, i am desperate in resolving this issue. THANKS

On any given Z68 motherboard, the allocation of PCI-E lanes are either x16 for one GPU and two x8 for Crossfire/SLI. This is pretty much common knowledge, but I don't really know about the relationship of those legacy PCI or PCI-E x1. Suppose I ran one GPU in the PCI-E x16 slot, would using a sound card in a PCI or PCI-E x1 slot affect the performance of the video card?

if someone somehow hacked a modern SSD to work with PCI (if possible), how fast would it be? i have done some prior research but i couldn't find anything, Although im pretty sure it isn't possible. But if it was, will the SATA III bottlenecks go away?

So for a long time now I've been using a little Asus wireless adapter (Asus USB-N13) but for the past few days my connection has been utterly horrid. It drops every few minutes, and when it works it will be unusably slow 90% of the time. The thing is that other people in the house don't seem to have any issues with dropping connection. Windows 7 will say "Limited internet access", "No internet access", or just drop entirely. So I was thinking maybe it's my wireless adapter being too slow; my modem is in the next room, about 4/5 metres between the usb and the modem with a wall in the middle. Should I buy a different USB/PCI-E adapter? Ethernet isn't an option.

I have a Gigabyte HD6970 sat in a PCI-e 3.0 x16 slot on Asus gryphon z87 motherboard. Both the bios and gpuz say that the card is capable of running at x16 but runs at x8. Ive tried reseating the card, tried a different x16 slot, different motherboard (asus iv formula), changed the bios switch pos. Am i missing anything. The bios is on the latest version 1707.

Hi guys, I know that title doesn't make sense, but hopefully this picture will help. Before I get to that, do note that I did not break them. I removed the bracket to show where it should go VS where it actually goes. I hope that conveys what I'm trying to show you. The motheboard is fully screwed in correctly as the I/O shield fits perfectly. If I move it down to line up the slots to the bracket openings, the I/O shield wouldn't fit. This is the motherboard. This is the add-on card. It's in a 3U server rack case. I don't see how I'm supposed to secure the cards without the brackets. The motherboard is ATX and fits perfectly everywhere else. This confuses me so. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Vitalius

Currently I have two R9 290s (MSI and Sapphire) running on an AsRock Z77 Extreme 4 motherboard. I loaded it up today and heard the fan spinning on both cards, but then it suddenly shut down. They are both being powered by a Corsair AX860 psu. I then rebooted and Windows booted but when I went into Catalyst it would no longer give me the option to turn on Crossfire. Then when I went into the BIOS it said my PCI-E 3.0 x16 x2 slot was empty while my PCI-E 3.0 x16 x1 slot was running. I swapped the cards and they both work in the first slot. Is my motherboard's slot dead? Any recommendations for a new LGA 1155 motherboard?

I know the 760 'Supports PCI Express 3.0' but will it work in PCI-E 2.0, does it even utilize all of the 2.0 bandwidth. Some people say it's fine, where as others say it wouldn't work, but I personally don't think the 760 will even go over the bandwidth the 2.0 slot offers but I'd rather have it confirmed before I spend my money on something I couldn't use. Motherboard (only thing relevant?): MSI 760GM-P33 Hopefully be upgrading soon, would rather buy a graphics card rather then a new motherboard first. Thanks for help!!

Looking for some good wireless PCI-E cards for a few builds I'm working on. Never had to source any, ever, so I am wondering what are some decent ones. Thanks.

This is going to be a very, very, large post. Let's begin. Specs Asus, ROG, Maximus V Formula, LGA 1155/1156 Intel, i7, 3770K. (Not overclocked) Thermaltake, Heatsink, v1 IC Diamond, Thermalpaste Kingtston, HyperX Series RAM, Beast, 16gb 2x8 Asus, Nvidia GTX, 700 Series, Titan Coolmax, Either ZU or ZP series PSU, 1000W OCZ. Revodrive 3, 240GB, SSD (Boot and storage drive) Soundblaser, ZxR, Audio Card w/Daughter Board Astro, A50, Headset Beats, Pro, Headphones Logitech, Speaker System, Z523 (2 Speakers w/Subwoofer) MadCatz, R.A.T. Series Mice, 7 MadCatz, V Series Keybaords, 7 BenQ, 120hz Monitor, XL2420T Microsoft, OS, Windows 8, 64-bit. OEM Regular Verson Issue Let's start from the very beginning, it is late August. I have finally gotten all my orders, and am ready to put it all together. At this point, the beats and the soundcard have not been introduced to the build. I start it up and all is working fine thus far. I install the usual programs (Chrome, Steam, MSI Afterburner, Rainmeter, Nvidia Geforce Experience + Newest drivers, Mouse drivers, foobar2000, 7zip, Microsoft Office 2013 Student Edition. utorrent). Boy, this took a long ass time, the whole day! Now I should relax by doing what I love to do, game. I start up Borderlands 2 to test out this new top of the line graphics card. At first, everything runs smoothly, I get Geforce Experience to optimize the game, and then I finally get to the actual shooting and looting. Only 5 minutes later, the game freezes, something goes on in the background of windows (Which I cannot alt-tab to see) and then the computer reboots. I try to play other games of similar graphic intensity and the reboots keep coming. Eventually my drive is corrupted after so many unexpected shut downs, that I have to re-install everything all over again. This has been happening over the past months since august, I have tried many methods of fixing the issue, which I will list below. Attempted Fixes Using different Operating Systems (Win8 64-bit, Win7 64-bit and 32-bit, both Ultimate, and Regular Versions. Different cabling, as in where to connect wires from the PSU to various locations. Tested RAM, no problems. RMA'd my motherboard, Asus sends it back with a replaced capacitor saying the thing works just fine. RMA'd my graphics card, Asus sends one back (can't remember if they replaced it or just didn't find any problems) saying the thing works just fine. Temporarily used the Corsair AX1200i (It's so sexy) as a replacement of my PSU to see if issues persisted, they did. Used different Driver versions for the Graphics card, to no avail. Updating Firmware, BIOS, drivers, misc. (as I had used discsoftware) of Motherboard and SSD to newest online versions. Extra Information Throughout this wold debacle, with different ways of experimentation, I always came up empty handed, and with the same issue. In the event logs, I get this same critical error: - System - Provider [ Name] Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power [ Guid] {331C3B3A-2005-44C2-AC5E-77220C37D6B4} EventID 41 Version 3 Level 1 Task 63 Opcode 0 Keywords 0x8000000000000002 - TimeCreated [ SystemTime] 2013-12-14T04:55:06.494989300Z EventRecordID 1057 Correlation - Execution [ ProcessID] 4 [ ThreadID] 8 Channel System Computer ShrineForGaben - Security [ UserID] S-1-5-18 - EventData BugcheckCode 0 BugcheckParameter1 0x0 BugcheckParameter2 0x0 BugcheckParameter3 0x0 BugcheckParameter4 0x0 SleepInProgress 0 PowerButtonTimestamp 0 BootAppStatus0 Here is a snap of the event logs that isn't the second view (Above) : http://i.imgur.com/S8Z0ukg.png Another piece of info is the few times I have been able to alt-tab before reboot. I was playing borderlands 2 trying to fix the issue, I saw the reboot about to happen (game gets very laggy and sound from it cuts out) and alt-tabbed. Geforce Experience (in the tray) was telling me that the driver version has stopped working. I taskmanaged and ended bl2.exe with not much issue. Do I suck at building computers? I think I don't, helped my friend build his and it booted and worked perfectly from the first time he started it. I suspect hardware problems, but I can't find one. The Maximus V has an LED setup to identify issues in a very basic way. It tells me that while booting, there is some issue with the boot device, but that LED disables when windows starts up. I have also installed onto a laptop hardrive, only to get the same issues. I have all the cables connected correctly. My temps for the CPU and GPU are normal (max 40c on cpu, and max 70c on titan, but only sometimes). However, it *is* possible to play every game I want. All I have to do is lower the settings to about medium on BL2, Crysis, whatever, and I'm fine. I only get shutdowns when I start to heighten the settings. One could say that I should suck it up and play with that, but I didn't buy 1K value graphics card to play like a console peasant. And besides, my friend with his OC 650ti boost is maxing BL2, so why can't I? I have scoured the internet, to try to fix this problem, but every way I try it, I get nothing. I even went outside. Do any of you know what that does to a person? Please, someone help me.

Hi, I am thinking of buying a sound card for my PC. My budget is around 50$. It doesn't matter if it is PCI, PCIe or USB, I just want the best sound card for this value. I have 5.1 surround, but also like to use headphones. Maybe a Xonar DGX is the answer? Or is there something better? OPTIONAL- I would also like a 1/4 inch input on the sound card but it is not necessary. Please help

Hello. So I need some help choosing the right GPU for working with DAW (Cubase 5 or 6 or 7, Nuendo). It should be fanless (passive), because this system has to be extremely silent. What GPU would be the best? Price doesn't really matter. I was looking at something like ASUS GT640 DirectCU silent. System: Asus Z87-C Intel Core i7-4770 (non-K, because I'm not going to overclock it) Noctua NH-U14S Corsair Vengeance Black 16GB (2x8GB) 1600MHz Low Profile Seasonic X-650 Fractal Design Define R4 White (without a window) Creamware (aka Sonic Core) Pulsar 1 + Luna 2 bridged with a cable

Need some help on Noctua NH-U14S | Will it block the slots?..
pastafingers posted a topic in Cooling
Hello. I'm building a new PC and found all the parts, except just the CPU cooler. I'm going with air cooling, and left just these two to think about and then buy. They are : Be Quiet! Dark Rock 2 or Noctua NH-U14S. I heard, that NH-U14S, when installed is very close to the GPU slot. Is that going to be a problem, since I'm going to use Asus GT640-DCSL-2GD3 on ASUS Z87-C? Next thing is RAM. I'm going to use Corsair Vengeance 16GB kit (2x8GB), but I'd like to add another 2x8GB kit later. Will Noctua block the 1st slot? How should I mount it, that it would work cool, silently and wont block the slots? Maybe fan facing to the back I/O (like in Linus's 2000 dollar PC build)? Parts for new PC: Asus Z87-C Intel Core i7-4770k | No overclock! Corsair Vengeance Black 2x8GB (later it's gonna be 4x8GB) Asus GT640-DCSL-2GD3 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121706) Fractal Design Define R4 White (no window) Seasonic SSR-650RM 2 Western Digital HDD's (from old PC) + 1 Seagate 3.5" SSHD DVD or Bluray drive (haven't decided yet) Two PCI slots will be used by Creamware (aka Sonic Core) Pulsar 1 and Luna 2 cards, which bridges like that This will be an Audio Workstation PC, so it has to be very quiet and cool. I will wait for your opinions. Maybe you would tell me if some of the parts are bad, and if there's a better choice. ___ Jonas (John) Sorry for bad english, I'm Lithuanian..- 10 replies

Hey all! I've just bought my third Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro (the internal one) for my video production rig, only problem is that now, only one will appear within windows and/or Blackmagic Control Panel/Media Express at a time. The two existing Intensity Pros has been working good and alongside a Matrox MXO2 Mini via PCI-e card on a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD7 rocking a AM3 Phenom II 1100T (Hexacore, 3.3Ghz) and 8 Gigs of 1600Mhz RAM. I know the setup might not be sufficient for recording/encoding but I am using other solutions for that. The problem seems to be the distribution of the PCI-e lanes as far as I know, but why and what is why I came here. I've tried a Asus Crosshair V Formula as well with the same problem, but I know that they're using the same chipsets for both of them (AMD 990FX and SB950) and I'm using a dedicated GPU as well, so I'm not suprised that there's a problem there. Also, I've tried connecting the optional Molex/SATA power connectors to the motherboards to give the PCI-e lanes more power with same results. If there's no way of fixing this by putting x card in x slot/lane, I'd love to get some recommendations for what kind of cheap motherboards that DO work. Cheers, Håvard

Hello! I'm new here (first post Q.Q), so sorry if I didn't put this in the right place I'm going to install a wireless card into my PC (since I can't get wired), and I was wondering where to put it. I'm using the Asus m5A99X EVO R2.0. It's the exact same size as a PCI-E 2.0 x1 slot, so my first guess is to put it there, however the motherboard has two other PCI-E 2.0 slots, one 8x at for dual cards (SLI/Crossfire I suppose?), and another that is for x4, supporting x4 or x1 cards. The top PCI-E 2.0 x16 slot hosts my GTX 660ti. Does where I place the card matter? I'm pretty new to this, so thanks !

Hello all, I'm having some issues with a wireless card. I recently built a computer for my girlfriend, and put a TP-Link N300 wireless card in it, (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0079XWMEI/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) The internet is troubling at best. Every little bit, I'll get just enough connection to go on the internet for a few seconds - a minute, then it's gone again. I updated the drivers, rebooted the computer, and haven't figured out what's wrong. Stats from the computer: Duration (up time): 11 minutes Signal Quality: 4/5 bars Packets sent: 24,890,124 Packets Received: 72,194,885 I ran a speed test when it was working for a minute, and got 14ms ping, 30 down, 11 up. Please help

The case in question is the 350D. The motherboard layout should have the GPUs in the top two slots and the bottom two slots, leaving the middle slot open for another PCI-E card. I have found this one from Gigabyte, are there other options? Also, any recommendations for a compatible CPU cooler? Planning on overclocking.
