This post will cover two problems in one that I've been having The first will be about how my NZXT case (I believe) has been causing me problems. I have had nonstop crashes that have occurred as far back as December of 2019. I have since then done multiple things to get rid of these crashes and so far, have had a mostly stable pc since summer of this year. However, a new set of crashes have been occurring. I noticed after a while that my CPU fans would get real fast before each of crashes, so I decided to replace the thermal paste. While I believe this may have solved the crashing, my pc still gets relatively high temperatures. Keep in mind that this is while idle, I had not played any game and my CPU still gets idle temps of 60 degrees and gpu idle at 60 (no fan). I think this might be an issue with my case, so I am asking is there anyway I could improve this? Would there be a way to keep using an NZXT case without having my PC crash As for my second issue, I really don't know whats causing it. My psu fans are really loud. Not that my psu is mounted incorrectly because the noise doesn't sound like its from the vibrations. The noise I hear the most is the sound of the air being scooped under from the psu as well as the fans spinning. Is there anyway to reduce this noise? By the way, the pc is setup up on my desk near me. A friend of mine built a pc, (he picked the parts and the store assembled it). The computer is noisy even at idle, produces this constant hum. Due to covid I can't go help him physically, but over the phone we temporarily completley disabled the CPU fan, GPU fan, all case fans, and disconnected the HDD, but the noise still persisted. So the only component I can think of that makes the noise is the PSU, though I don't see a reason for it to be that noisy? The noise is consistant and still happens when nothing is running and all the componenst are completely idle. Any clues? Specs: - Ryzen 3800XT - Noctua D15 - Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite AX V2 - Corsair Vengance 16x2 3200 - Samsung 970 Evo Plus - Antec P101 Silent - Gigabyte GTX 1650 - CoolerMaster 750W MWE Gold 750 - Windows 10 Pro 64 bit Some more notes: - The PSU is oriented correctly. - CPU/GPU both run cool at idle (30-40 C) - Nothing blocks the air flow, and the case is sitting on a hard floor. - Choosing the "power saver" windows power plan and/or setting Ryzen Master to Eco Mode doesn't change anything. - This friend has another similarly specd pc (10700K) in a different house that has a Corsair 650W TX650M that doesn't make that noise. - Due to covid and a huge sale the store did recetly, their customer support is terrible and slow at the moment.

Hello guys. So i got a new HDD Western Digital Blue 1TB and when i open a file or a game/program that's installed on the HDD it makes a small grinding noise? you can say and then when i quit the program etc it stops or its not that "Consistent". I dowloaded HD Sentinel to check the Health of the Drives and it seems completely fine. What do you think guys?

Sounds like hot steam out of a boiling coffe pot.. Ive replaced the PSU already because i was afraid of this : But im still interested in what sound it is. Anyways here the sound:

I just bought an Aorus P850 around 20days (1/11), last night when i shut down the PC some loud buzzing noise came out of the psu, turn off psu switch and it still there only disappear when i pull the plug on the wall (i plug pc and monitor into an outlet and from that outlet go to the wall), at first i change the oulet but still on the same wall the noise still there, when i change to difference wall the noice stop (my room have 2 wall outlet on 2 walls), but when i go back to the old wall around 20-30 minutes later the noise came back (PC still off only psu switch turn on), so is it because the wall or my psu have problem, if it because the wall should i use a power stabilizer for my pc ?

Hi, I'm fairly new to building PCs and I'm planning a workstation that will handle some heavy tasks. I haven't decided on all the components yet (listed some at the end of this post). I guess I'm trying to find the cooling solution that will give me the most performance for the least amount of noise. Or some sweet spot in the middle since a "maximum performance for zero noise" isn't really realistic at this time. Noise is essentially generated by moving components so I'm trying to limit those as much as possible. Or, if I can keep my system cool enough, it won't have to generate as much noise since it's cooled effectively. I wrote down some thoughts on the different paths I could take for cooling. I would appreciate any advice or feedback on them. Custom water loop: I like this option even though it's more of a hassle. I don't mind going for it if it's really better in terms of cooling and noise. I can't find any good resources that compare custom water cooling effectiveness/noise to other solutions. I think it has more moving parts than the other 2 solutions though? Pros: can cool multiple components - more effective than AIO or air cooling? - awesome aesthetics - can be fun maintaining it if you're an enthusiast Cons: more expensive? - more complicated - more maintenance - loud? AIO (liquid cooling): I've shortlisted the ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 360 for this option. Though I can't decide whether there's any real value in jumping from 360 to 420. Pros: easy installation - effective cooling - can look better than air cooling Cons: the loudest relatively speaking? - only cools one component (cpu)? - hard to tell if it fails compared to air cooling Air cooling: NH-D15S or Dark Rock 4. As far as I can see and read, this solution is quiet until you start overclocking and the fans start ramping up? Also can't really decide which model is better on the line up. Pros: the quietest? - least effective relatively? Cons: might have clearance issues - ugly. - only cools one component (cpu)? Some more questions/thoughts: - Does case airflow really matter with AIO or custom loops as much as it does with air cooling? - Are there diminishing returns with radiator sizes? 360 vs 420 - Is it okay to go for a fan-less power supply like the one I picked? - Ice Giant cooler seems to be a really promising product, might wait for that. Build so far (all subject to change as I learn more): AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 3.4 GHz 16-Core Processor Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 128 GB (4 x 32 GB) DDR4-4000 CL18 Memory Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive Asus ROG Strix Helios ATX Full Tower Case SeaSonic M12II EVO 850 W 80+ Bronze Certified Fully Modular Fanless ATX Power Supply

My PSU is making this weird static noise that sounds like static coming from a radio. It doesn't happen everyday but it normally happens after I play or one time it happened upon plugging it in. I thought it was coil whine because disappeared when I activated hybrid mode. But then after after a few days it's back. Recently it was fine again. I'm suspecting it might be a capacitor discharging because one time it was still there when I unplugged it. My PSU is a Seasonic Prime Titanium 850w. Should I RMA this unit? :(

I've got a weird sound being emitted from my PC and I can't really locate from where but it seems like it's either from the CPU cooler (H100x) or the GPU (Gigabyte RTX 3070 Gaming 8GB). The sound always appears when the PC is under high load, for example during gameplay and rendering. And as Im not familiar with this sound i have no idea where and why it's there, so if someone recognizes the sound from the video I've attached I'd be glad to know! (The sound in the video am referring to is the buzzing and rattling sound you can hear in the beginning) Happy for any advice and info that could help IMG_1877.mp4

Hey all, I finished my build a few days ago and while I was waiting for my Windows-Key, I played around in UEFI and booted up a Live Linux and didn't notice any issues (aside from my case fans, but that is a separate issue - they make other noises but I am working on that one). However, as soon as I started the Windows Install past the Product Key, I started hearing high pitched noises (around 1300mhz maybe according to an app on my phone). I recorded the sound, see the attachment. The sound persists during normal windows usage, too. It isn't constant, it instead fluctuates (like you hear in the recording). I am unsure how to track down which part is causing these sounds. At first I thought it's the NVMe M.2 SSD because I did not hear these sounds in UEFI and live linux, but somehow this seems unlikely as a source for the sound. I hear things like these are common from PSU and GPU, but some people have also said their Motherboard or even SSD produced high-pitched noises. I was hoping that maybe the sounds in my recording can narrow down which component it could be. Based on the phone app I used to check the frequency, I can get the high-pitch peaks to show up most reliably in the vicinity of the PSU, but it's not like the GPU, SSD or Motherboard aren't close to that (mATX case and Board). Any ideas how I could track down the problem more reliably? Or maybe it is obvious based on the sound. The PSU would probably be the most painless fix, so I am kind of hoping it's that. You can see my parts here: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/v7WHrr Edit: I remember checking my SSD for errors from inside UEFI while troubleshooting something and I did not hear these sounds during that error check. Edit2: Went back into UEFI because I didn't have XMP enabled - this time I heard the noises in UEFI too. Edit3: It was the PSU. I first swapped in a very old graphics card, and at first I thought it was solved but then it reappeared. Then I just unmounted the PSU and set it outside the case which allowed me to clearly determine the cause. 2021-01-18 14.06.19.ogg

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me with an issue I’m experiencing with my PC. I built it back around 2016 and have had no real problems until now. About a year ago now my PC started occasionally making a loud noise when I would boot it up. It only happened every so often (maybe once I’m every 15 boots however it could have gone longer without doing it) but recently it has been becoming more frequent and for the first time today the noise started after my pc had been on for about 7 hours. I usually get rid of the noise by turning off the pc and turning it back on until the noise goes away since I’ve never had time to fix it however I really should get to the bottom of it I’ll see if I can attach a video of the noise as it has gone away for now so I can’t get any new recordings. Originally due to the noise sounding rotational I thought it might’ve been a hard drive but all my hard drives seem fine and I’ve health checked them and they all seem clear there too. The noise sounds to me like a fan bearing but I’m finding it hard to find the issue since the noise comes and goes. From hearing the volume of the noise I would say that the noise is coming from the top or backside of my pc. I have one fan mounted at the back and a radiator with two fans mounted on the top of the case. The graphics card is a GTX 1080ti. Link to video: https://youtu.be/-4lSH7T61wU Any input would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance

Any idea what this sound is? My build: CPU: I9 9900K Motherboard: MSI Z390 MPG GAMING EDGE AC RAM: 32GB CORSAIR LPX 3200MHz GPU: RTX 3070 SSD: WD 500GB Blue PSU: EVGA G5 850W CPU COOLER: Dark Rock Pro 4 *For this recording the Case Fans were unplugged* It seems to be coming from around the cpu cooler and I can really tell since the drp4 has the fab hidden inside. My next test is to unplug each cpu fan and see if it’s one of them but thought I’d post first before I go unplugging them. Any ideas? To me it sounds identical to a bad Disk Drive except for the fact I don’t have one lol https://youtu.be/o2gtcxHn_Lw

Hi, about 2-3 days ago I started noticing a noise which doesn’t go away appearing after a few minutes of booting up my pc, I’ve checked my fans and gpu and know for sure it’s my AIO, I’m wondering if anyone could suggest how to possibly fix this, not sure if it could be air bubbles, the noise is exactly the same even if I shake the case a little or tap on the pump many times. The noise can be heard with the case closed and even with my headphones on, on my bed a couple meters away. Added a video of the noise. V IMG_2929.MP4

As of lately I've been having this weird issue with my phone whee it seems like only happens whenever I plug in my headphones to listen to either music or videos, it has like a weird Noise Cancellation filter, whenever there's sounds going off I can hear stuff fine but just as the sounds quiet down, the audio seems to lower down the same way a noice cancelling mic worns whenever you're done talking, it also applied for vocal media such as podcasts or just people talking in general, I'm using a Samsung Galaxy A01, can someone help? It's really annoying whenever I'm trying to watch FPS games and audio intensive media.

My old PSU was making this weird noise (in the video) do I bought a new one (an corsair cx650) and I keep hearing that same noise. Hello LTT, I need your help! This is a new rig recently built, specs are below: Cpu: Intel 10900K (SP 81) Mobo: Asus Maximus Apex XII GPU: Asus tuf 3080 OS drive: 970 Evo Plus nvme 500GB PSU: Seasonic 750W Prime Ultra Plat Sound card: Creative Sound Blaster AE-7 Cpu cooler: Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360 Fans: x7 Arctic Bionix P120 pwm Ram:G.Skill Trident z RGB 2x16GB B-dies Case: Lian Li o11 Dynamic XL So this is most perplexing for me as I have never bumped upon something like that before. Thing is the noise source is kinda difficult to isolate. Here is a sample so you can get the idea: https://vocaroo.com/Pur5vPAzuPa Now I have managed to find the exact reason which causes this noise. With that said, I'm still lost as to where it's coming from. Is sound like it could be coming from the psu, the gpu, the pump or even the motherboard itself. So here's what's happening. Whenever I play a video using NVIDIA Cuvid as the video decoder I get this super loud grinding noise. If I change the decoder to DXVA2 (Copy-Back) then the noise is almost inaudible. In both cases the noise gets louder if I go full-screen. I'm worried because after sticking my ear next to the open case for a few minutes, I'm 80% sure the sound is coming from either the pump or behind the pump... Weird thing is the using prime95 or furmark doesn't produce any such noise, at least continuously like when playing back videos. I would appreciate any insight that will help me isolate the issue and contact the respective support team. One more thing to notice is when the noise abruptly subsides for a second before it starts again, this translates to frame dropping or stuttering in the video. Ok, last thing I can do to demonstrate the issue. Hoping for the right person to see this and provide an answer: (kindly turn up your volume) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMfTrvrAid0&feature=youtu.be Final attempt at finding help: disabled hardware acceleration for HEVC, loading the CPU, alternating between window mode and full screen: https://vocaroo.com/dwlzrjzvaob re-enabled hardware acceleration for HEVC, loading the GPU, alternating between window mode and full screen: https://vocaroo.com/dxSvJircyHa BTW I manually stopped the pump fan, gpu fans, psu fan and that didn't affect the noise. At this point, I think it's the pump or the PSU... I swear the sound comes from the pump. Or is it possible for the motherboard itself to make such a noise?

Hello! Recently my laptop (asus fx503vd) has begun acting up. During the last 2 bootups it has entered a 2 cycle bootloop with a weird noise when failing to boot and then starting up as normal. I have no idea whats giong on but it's rather concerning. Can anyone help me fix this?

It only sounds like this when I emulate games in rpcs3, which is stored on the HDD and sometimes it also happens during casual use for very brief seconds. My GPU has coil whine, but the noise in this case seems different from that one and seems to come from the HDD. It's making me go nuts. Is this normal? I checked for bad sectors and errors in HD Tune and CrystalDiskInfo and the HDD seems to be fine. 1193502371_Img3878.m4v

Hello everyone and@LinusTech I have an issue with my AMD Vega 64 Liquid Cooled, a coil whine while playing Wolfenstein New Colossus on my Sapphire Vega 64 and i really don't know why....this only happens if i am in the main menu where the FPS is high. My configuration is: Case: Lian Li Air Mini Mesh with default case fans. (two 140mm front fans and one in the back of the case of 120mm) Motherboard: AsRock B560 Steel Legend Processor: Intel Core i7 11700F with Cpu Fan Noctua NHU-12s Redux RAM: GSkill Trident Z RGB CL15 - 3000mhz with XMP Profile enabled on auto PSU: Seasonic GX Focus Gold 80+ 750w Two SSD M2 2028 Crucial and one HDD Seagate Sata 3. Monitor: LG 32GN-650B Ultragear with 2k default resolution. I did two tests in Furmark on 1080p and 1440p resolutions and i did not experienced any coil whine, only in the game menu. Max wattage of gpu in Hardware Monitor was 266w and the temperature max 64.

Hello! I just did a fresh re-install of Windows 10 and drivers. Before that, i cleaned the PC with compressed air. My PC has been running without issues and the main game i play, the GPU temp would sit at 60 degrees C. NOW. I installed all my drivers and games. I started the game and when i went into a battle, it immediately made a very weird metal grinding noise and the GPU would get very hot...The temp just kept going up and i closed the game after a few seconds when it got over 75 degrees C.... I am pretty sure it comes from the GPU. It is NOT the fans. I can control the fans and i tried to put them at 100%, they sound normal. Whenever i run a GPU stress test, it immediately makes that strange noise. What did i do?! What does this sound like? Here is a video of the sound. Might have to turn your volume up, i find it hard to hear with my speakers. Thanks!

VID-20221015-WA0000.mp4 Windows 10 64bit Gtx 1060 6gb i5-6400 2.7ghz 500W psu Msi MB So I have a 5.3 year old pc that serves me very well, but recently like maybe a week ago maybe a week and a half every time I would boot my pc everything would be fine until I got to my desktop and then I started hear a buzzing/rattling sound from my pc. The noise disappears as soon as I shut down my pc and boot it up again. Then it's like nothing happened. Now, it's very hard for me to pinpoint where exactly this noise is coming from since it used to happen like a year ago a few times and then stopped until now, only difference is, that the first time it sounded like it was coming from the PSU and now I THINK, and emphasize on the think part, that it's coming from my GPU.... I looked at my gpu and saw a dust coat on the fans and a chunk of dust in the heat sink.. So I thought it might be the culprit behind the issue... But that was until I considered the worst.. I think (and I really hope I'm wrong) that my HDD might be failing. But the noise doesn't seem to come from there, but then again I did say that it's hard to pinpoint. And the drive itself doesn't show any symptoms of failure like slow read and write speeds, BSOD, clicking sound etc. I bought a new pc anyway unrelated to this and it should come in like 3 days, but until then, I have to know what causing this issue. Can anyone help me?

Hello, My RTX 3090 Aorus Master (the V1.0 ) started recently to do a wierd noise ONLY when i'm using Houdini, a 3D software (and only when rotating the camera with the mouse in the viewport, I repeat, it is ONLY when I move/rotate the camera, only in Houdini, not in blender), and with that noise, the GPU Clock get maxed. This thing didn't happen before (other than crashing randomly blackscreen in LoL and other games , because it is a bad product, 2 8 pins not 3, never gonna buy from Gigabyte and Aorus again), here's a video: Can someone tell me what is this sound? It's like a coil whine, but I want to be sure Thanks! IMG_0936.mp4

Heard about the upcoming Magnetic cable management product a few times on WAN show and other ltt videos and I'm so excited about it but meanwhile was wondering if the proximity to the magnet might introduce some noise or weird behaviors especially for audio and video cables. If it gets tested for that in the lab, later on it would be great if that's mentioned somewhere.
