Hey. I hope someone has a genius answer to this as when i looked at the layout of the cables i soon found out this wasn't just a + - audio here and + - mic there kinda deal. And to not waste your time. here is the question! I have an ASUS Xonar DX sound card. makes my cloud headset sound a bit better but the mic quality is being stomped on by my GPU when in-game or just moving my mouse on the screen. So can i separate the mic and audio signals from the HD audio cable so i don't need a separate extension cable to go around into the back of my PC? Goal. Plug in both mic and audio jack in the front of my PC. Audio jack goes to sound card Mic jack goes to motherboard. Thanks!

So... I'm really new to this... Sorry if I fail... OK so I have an HP Envy. I dropped my laptop and the screen cracked and the laptop fan inside got out of place. Ever since then I've been using it as a desktop with an external fan. Now... while I was moving my laptop.. i heard this HUGE crack sound from the laptop fan (internal) and now whenever I boot up the PC... I get error messages saying a required device is missing and press enter to continue and all that... At first it would shut down after that error message in boot up.. By some miracle, after a day.. it works after boot-up.. However, now im afraid my laptop's gonna get fried/ and the performance is worse... For now I'm living with ice packs and external laptop fans... I don't know how long it will last... I need help/suggestions. I'm sure that my laptop may not get fried if I can handle this carefully, however, the computer is limiting itself and is being stubborn due to the fact a required device is missing. So I'm wondering if it is possible to register my external laptop fan (USB) as the internal laptop fan on my WINDOWS 10 Laptop... If this is not possible.. Is it smart to open up my laptop with this fan broken...? Are the tools expensive? Is the Fan expensive? And no, for those who are salty and wish to ruin one's day, I will not buy a new laptop due to my current circumstances. I forgot to mention... The internal fan isn't working AT ALL... like not moving at all.

Are the speeds from an external HDD using USB 3.0 or 3.1 the same or similar as an internal HDD using regular SATA connectors? I want to build a computer in a super small for factor case like the RVZ02 or Node 202 but neither have 3.5" HDD spaces but I need terabytes of space not just 500gb of SSD storage and I really don't have the money for higher capacity SSDs.

Greeting everyone, Recently my WD 1TB Green hard drive started giving me problems regarding windows boot and frequent blue screens. So i decided it's high time i need to upgrade to SSD. I want to use a 120GB SSD as a boot drive and the existing 1TB hard drive for mass storage. Since i don't know much about SSD at the moment, i would appreciate a little help on this topic. Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-H170-Gaming 3 Processor - Intel 6600(Skylake) I've heard Samsung evo is good and reliable at this price point. Is it? Other options?

Amazon in the UK is selling SanDisk Ultra II SSDs 550 MB/s with various discounts varying by capacity. The 960GB model is priced at £142.99, down 38% from £230.99. The sale on that model last till midnight (GMT), but the other capacities may last longer. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00M8ABHVQ?ref_=gbps_tit_s-3_3127_45235639&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

Hi LTT Community, So I happen to have 4 - Seagate 2T NAS HDD (ST2000VN000) drives that I originally purchased for a Buffalo NAS build, but I ended up selling the Buffalo before I had time to really utilize the system. So now I'm wondering what I should do with these drives. I would like to have a large and slightly redundant storage drive available to throw media and documents onto so that I have more room on my main SSD drive that I'm using for boot and some games. I'm thinking 1 of 2 options: 1) Thow the drives in my gaming rig and utilize the motherboard raid or a controller to build a RAID 10 array. I'm not really looking for any more exotic raid setup than 10 (say 5 or 6) and I'd purely be purchasing a raid controller in the event my motherboard coughs up a lung. 2) Return to the previous intention of settuping a NAS box by buying a Synology DS411. I got a chance to play around with the Buffalo setup, but was a little underwhelmed with the software, which is why I'm attracted to Synology. I'm somewhat of a power user and would normally elect to build my own or try FreeNAS, but I'm also incredibly lazy and just kind of want something that works out of the box. So the features that would come with the NAS setup, like apps, media serving, and remote access to files would be nice, but I'm not sure I really want to shell out that kind of money when my real concern is just have a decent bit of redundancy for my media. Please let me know what you think. If option 1, let me know if you think the raid controller is worth it or the specific one I linked appropriate. Thanks LTT Community!!! Hi guys. Today I am trying to diagnose and resolve my slow internal network transfer speeds. When copying a movie from computer A to B, it runs at about 3MB/s. Whilst transferring from B to A it runs at about 2.5MB/s. (LAN Speed Test program produces the same speed) The route from A to B is: PC A 5ghz wireless > router > powerline input > powerline output > PC B The hard drive in operation on PC A is a 7200rpm sata. In PC B it is a 5400rpm external usb 2.0 hard drive. When I attempt the file transfer from A to B but NOT to the external hdd, rather the internal ssd.. the speeds are the same. This leads me to believe it is not a hard drive bottleneck but specifically the network. Can anyone offer some tips on what I can do help resolve this? If you need any more info or clarification, just ask please. Thanks.

So I have a big black external WD hard drive. I store all of my games on it, but it's bottle necked by it's USB 2.0 interface. I know with some if not most external hard drives you can take them apart and on the inside it's the same as an internal HDD. I would like to do this accept there isn't any screws or anything to take it apart with on the outside which leads me to believe there's just a WD Green in there that they're trying to hide. Any ideas on how I might find out or how I might take it apart?

Hi there, I'm looking for an internal capture card, but my requirements are: I want to be able to capture from analogue sources, such as old games consoles, so the card requires some form of SD input But I also want to be able to capture 1080p60 and higher footage, for futureproofing reasons. I've seen a small amount of cards, like this one from AverMedia, but due to it's age it doesn't even have support for 1080p. There's also the Intensity Pro 4K from Blackmagic, which sounds good and comes with a breakout cable, but I've read that some people had issues with this card, though they may have fixed these issues now. So, i'm looking for some general advice and support on the matter from someone who knows a bit better than me

Hi all, I recently removed my optical drive from a samsung laptop, and added a hard drive internally that is mechanical. One of the reasons that I got an ssd for the main drive of my laptop is power savings. How do I cut off power to my "DVD DRIVE" that is really a hard disk? is there a software utility I can use on my main OS? Thanks! redact_d

The description says that the Aquacomputer Poweradjust 3 USB can control 9 fans but only has one power out so does that mean they are all on one header? I'm looking to control 6 120mm Noctua fans for an upgrade that I'm slowing putting together. I don't have any 5.25" bays for a fan controller and I want finer control than is granted by my mobo so I was hoping this would work. If you know of a different solution I'm all ears. Best thing would be if Corsair still sold their link command mini station but so far I've only seen it in stock in an Australian store and they don't ship overseas

Hi guys, So I once saw a video where a guy used custom individually braided power cables running from the power supply to the motherboard and GPU's etc. At the bottom I've included an example. I've been looking a bit around, but can't seem to find anywhere to buy it. So do you guys know a shop that sells this? Preferably in Belgium/Europe region. Or at least shipping here. Thanks, James

Hello everyone I'm building a new desktop computer and I'm having trouble to decide on a blue ray driver. I'll use it for burning cds pretty often, occasionaly for burning dvds and blue ray playback. Most of br drivers out there seems to only read/write blue ray - r. Will that be a problem for blue ray movies playback? Thank you

hello here a small mod i made. i made a very beefy htpc/lan mini itx rig using a elite 130 case a z87e itx motherboard from azrock a watercooled 4770K in push pull with 2 3.5"sshdd and a gtx 970 strix. as you expect it was a very tight fit and i had to use the disk drive bay to put the 2nd sshdd. last year i broke the very flimsy shrink wrap of the wifi antenna connector during a lan party since then,i was living a real nightmare to make the wifi bluetooth work. it had only 1 or 2 bar in the wifi detection ,most usb wifi dongle i was throwing at it was not compatible or had weird bugs with my motherboard. and in france replacement antennas are still hard to find. so to avoid any more problems i chose to go with a internal wifi mod for my elite 130 . i read tons of forum subjects about laptop antennas and how some pc maker like hp,alienware or apple put antennas inside their case. i read too about the faraday cage problem. and founded some basic rules about using a internal antenna inside a desktop. i am not sure if they are true but here my bet: 1 you need to put the antenna on a thin plastic part of the cage to avoid problems. 2 you need to put the antennas on the upper part of the case. and 3 : you need place the antennas on the most external and the upper part of the case for best result. if you use more than 1 antenna the spacing between each antenna should be around 1 hand . so i purchased this style of antennas to replace mine. http://www.ebay.fr/itm/251597877097?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 and i glued them to my cd cover of my case . i was kinda scared because the front of the computer was plastic honeycomb with metal mesh. but after hooking the antennas to my motherboard i had really good result . with all wifi bars full most of the time and bt working again with a good range of 30m so i am happy with this mod and i recommend it for most new itx builds. hope you enjoyed my mod, sorry for my bad english im french.

I recently built my new computer intended for gaming and got it up and running. I installed my OS on a SSD, but due to it only having 120 GB, I decided to get an internal HDD to use for storing files and programs. To do this I followed Linus's video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMo8krAJd5Q When I formatted the HDD in the disk management, I got an error message and its format is now RAW. It now it appears in "This Computer" with the drive letter I gave it but I obviously cannot use or access it. I tried formatting it again a few times and I normally got an error message or my computer crashes. So is there a way to fix this? Or do I need to get a new drive? My OS is windows 8.1 if that helps.

Hello guys! I have a idea: Installing a lcd on the side of my case, allways connected to my computer, to the motherboard. I have searched for quite some time and haven´t found a solution yet. (Well some bad ones..) - One is to install a USB-header USB GPU and let that connect via VGA and have external power source.. BUUH! So, how du i connect a lcd screen to my motherboard powered by my PSU, all internal in my system? - I understand that i need some kind of GPU to show anything, because i dont connect it to my R9 290.. but remember the issue with external power. Thanks in advance, this is realy a biggie for me. :-) - Picture explaining..

So before I came across this Wonderous Idea of building a new PC, I recently picked up a 1TB external hard drive for use with my 9 year old laptop - yes 9 years old! But now as I am not gonna be using that laptop for much longer, I was wondering if I can A, wipe that harder drive clean, and B, hack so It would work as an internal drive. This is my current build http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/dcF9XL And the hard rive connects via USB

Basically the title, I have a 2TB hard drive from Seagate and wondering if I could use it as a external hard drive. Is there a way I could configure it so it sees my internal HDD as if it was a external?

Hi, I want to use the reservoir top as an inlet port and I was wondering if the EKWB internal tube (https://shop.ekwb.com/ek-res-x3-internal-tube-12-16-40mm) could be used in conjunction with the included reservoir top of the EK Pump/Res combo (https://shop.ekwb.com/ek-xres-100-d5-vario-incl-pump)? Or would I need to use this: https://shop.ekwb.com/ek-res-x3-top-v2-multiport Thanks EDIT: I forgot to mention that I already own the EK D5 Pump/Res combo.

Hi! I'm writing this in the hope that someone here may have come across this issue before. I've removed an external 3TB HDD and added it as an internal sata drive to my rig. The problem is that Windows 8.1 isn't recognizing the existing partition (2.72 TB, NTFS I believe) correctly. It thinks the drive isn't formated and disk management shows three partitions instead of one. It works ok back in it's external case but I'd like to know how to make it work as an internal drive. I've did this before with smaller external drives and never had any issues so I'm at a loss here. Does anybody know how to do this? If it helps, it's a Samsung D3 station, internally a standard Sata Seagate HDD. My motherboard is an ASUS B85M-G.
