so yesterday i had 2 scenarios of freezes but thaught nothing of it. Today im having them frequently when im playing cs:go and it happends sometimes outside Game. i have been monitoring my Gpu and Cpu activity after said freezes im running a ryzen 5 2400g and a Rtx 2070 i noticed some spikes on my gpu to 100% on the logs in task manager after the freezes, but that might also come from the alt tab im just not certain what it could be, as i am using a evo 970 and a generic 500gig ssd as secondary storeage. any suggestions or explanations, or help with the invastigations would be apretiated. :)

Hi, peace, I've completed my first build 3 weeks ago: PCPartPicker Part List: First time Build CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15, Premium CPU Cooler with 2x NF-A15 PWM 140mm Fans Motherboard: Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WI-FI) ATX AM4 Motherboard Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory Storage: Silicon Power 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive Video Card: Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 XT 8 GB NITRO+ Video Card Case: Phanteks Enthoo Primo ATX Full Tower Case Power Supply: Corsair HX1000i W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply Monitor: BenQ EX2780Q 27.0" 2560x1440 144 Hz Monitor Windows 10 pro (Genuine) Bios updated to the latest version All the drivers installed & up to the latest version No overclocking of CPU or GPU Power plan: "AMD Ryzen High Performance" but no longer available, don't know why, tried every fix but couldn't bring it nor "AMD Balanced" back, I think it happened after GPU drivers update, only my assumption! Current power plan: Win 10 pro "High Performance" CPU temperature: 35-50°C Max GPU driver version: Adrenalin 2020 Edition 19.12.3 Optional, uninstalled! Current version: Adrenalin 2020 Edition 19.12.2 Recommended (WHQL), installed again yesterday! Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 XT NITRO+ issues: * GPU temperature reaches 50-56°C rarely goes to 58°C (doesn't remain at 56°C for long, back & forth from 50 to 56°C) when idle (web surfing & watching videos) with 0RPM fans spinning, I've read that it's normal for this card, thus no worries, but is it normal? * Black screens, when watching prime every time I forwarded or re-winded the video, screen went black & then came back, super disturbing but last time I checked the issue seemed fixed, can't try it now, Out of Subscription ? * Black screens, when watching youtube or any video especially when trying to go to full screen, goes black & comes back again, happens rarely but really disrupting! * Screen sometimes wakes up & sometimes doesn't wake up, when the monitor screen tuns off, clicking & moving the mouse won't make it turn back on, sometimes it works even after a long time remaining off & sometimes it won't work even if the screen turned off seconds ago, sometimes/mostly it turns on but says: "NO HDMI Signal"! Solution: Turn the monitor off & on, can sometime takes 2-3 tries, if that doesn't help unplugging & plugging the HDMI cable from the GPU works! * Black screen most annoying experience till now, yesterday or the day before I was watching a gameplay video on youtube & upon trying going to full screen, boom screen went black, GPU fans started spinning at full speed, as always turned the monitor off & on but with no luck, unplugged & plugged the HDMI cable again yet no luck, used the reset button on the case, tried that at least thrice or more but with no luck also, even after doing that GPU fans kept spinning at full speed! Solution: turned the PC off using the power button!! * Freezes/Crashes: When starting the game using the rockstar launcher! Fix: Can take 2-3 restarts! When going full screen mode with my VPS, Fix: Can also take 2-3 restarts! Random freezes/crashes! So, are there any solutions, what your advice, I am thinking of returning & replacing it with 2070 or 2080 super?? Thank you. FIX: The problem was with the HDMI cable that came with my BenQ EX2780Q monitor, after I purchased a VESA certified DP 1.4 cable, this issue was gone, thank GOD it was the most annoying issue for me!

I’ve pc has been freezing on restart (only) for a really long while. If I shut it down it’s fine, but if I have to restart for windows update or just a normal restart I can’t. (Im running on 1607...yeah that long) It’s an old Aroura R3. Haven’t changed anything except the graphics card. I’ve posted my problem on Microsoft forums a couple of months ago and tried everything but still nothing. It sucks because I really need the new features 1903 offers and I can’t offord a new pc. Any help is extremely appreciated. I7-2600k 3.40GHz 12Gb Ram GTX 1050TI FTW (Idk if this helps but I have 3Tb HDD, With 250Gb SSD As my Windows drive.)

Started a few days ago my pc will randomly start to slow down and then it will freeze with black screen in both my monitors. Most of the time that I'm using my pc, I'll be playing games, but every time that this happened I was either watching netflix or watching youtube/streams, never happened while gaming. My PC is relatively new, but I'm using a PSU from my old PC (bought in 2016), and a HDD that I had problems with. The problem with the HDD was that sometimes it wouldn't show up as a connected device and when I tried to format it would take a long time and fail occasionally. I use the HDD only to store games and it never crashed while playing, that's why I have it connected to my pc still. Because it happens randomly the only thing that I noticed is that the CPU usage goes to 80-100% before the pc freezes and goes to black screen. I'm guessing that my PSU is dying but I'm not sure, is there a way to test it? This is another installment of my pc freezing problems. I just got a new PSU think the crashes were caused by low wattage output but I was wrong. Basically, all I’m wondering is if a bad hard drive could be causing freezes. I’ve ran seagate disk check and checked for bad sectors. This hard drive is also from a pc that was left outside in the rain for about 2 weeks (previous owners left it out in a trash pile). Also, during the latest freeze I had task manager open and the disk was the only thing at 100% when it froze. Any help is greatly appreciated

Hi Guys! Can you guys help me out? I'm running into an issue Specs: Asus Strix Hero II (GL504GM-DS74) CPU: i7-8750H GPU: GTX 1060 6GB RAM: 16GB I had this laptop for a year now. -PROBLEM- This currently happened recently. When I play really high setting games this would pop-up and then restarts my laptop. I tried to reinstall my graphics driver and also updated the bios. This only happens when I play high end games or when I try to stress test my GPU or anything that heats up my laptop. I also tried testing this in an air conditioned room but the problem still occurs I also tried memtest and at first it was hanging then when I added more ventilation (placed and egg tray under my laptop) it finished with no errors. Methods that I have tried: 1. Update the drivers. (Graphics and BIOS) 2. Lightly dusted out the fans of my laptop Methods that I will try: 1. Change the thermal compound (Still not arrived) 2. Heavily clean my laptop (Waiting for the thermal compound) I currently have my GPU disabled and will test again when I added the thermal compound Other than that I don't know anything about this issue and I don't really know whats happening I just searched the stuff that I need to do in the internet. But I still have not found any solutions yet or people who have the same image in the display as mine. Please send help ? ? ? Tasukete kudasai ?

I've got an odd situation happening with my computer. Started with a game called Risk of Rain 2, started noticing the game locks up for about 2 seconds every 30 seconds or so. It's almost unplayable now, and I've tried lots of different troubleshooting steps. Uninstalled/reinstalled the game (I've tried the same Hard Drive and the SSD on my system), I've checked for recent updates for drivers in both Geforce Experience and any windows update, as well as the device manager to see if an update was needed there as well. It's not a network issue as the game is playable offline, and the issue persisted even after turning off the internet on my computer (unplugged the ethernet cable, it has no wi-fi capabilities. I started seeing this issue in specific other games like Tabletop Simulator and in Stick Fight the Game, and is even happening on the Steam Client as well. Again, making sure that each of these programs are up to date and that there were no security programs or other disruptive programs that might be preventing them from running properly. Stranger yet, any games that are graphically demanding, ie; Monster Hunter World, The Witcher 3, Bioshock infinite, are all capable of running super smoothly (and that's with OBS Studio running in the background to record/stream gameplay) with absolutely no issues whatsoever. I've also tried testing games using other clients like the Epic Game Store (groan), and I did a similar test, playing Batman Arkham Asylum as the high demanding game, and Enter The Gungeon as the low demanding game, but neither of the games experienced issues. I've posted a video on youtube that shows exactly what the stutter/freezes look like. The only thing that I've noticed between the games and programs experiencing the issue is that the GPU drops down to zero every 20 seconds or so before "reviving" itself in the middle of the process. I have task manager opened during the video to show this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcYaHnNzQ54 Any help to solve this problem is greatly appreciated!

Hello, my computer is: i5 - 6500 AsRock H270 Performance GTX 1060 Palit Super JetStream 6GB Kingston HyperX 8x2 GB 2133 mhz WD Red 1 TB Kingston SSD 240 GB Seasonic 620W Bronze I ve been using my pc about 1.5 years and everything was good. In March 2018 Windows 10 started to download " extremely important" update while I was playing and lags came. I thought its just update downloading and everything will be fine after finishing it. But I was wrong. Half a year has passed and I still cant fix them. I have lags everywhere : while using computer, in games, etc. I tried to do everything I could find in the interent : reinstalling windows, cleaning computer, downloading some soft\drivers, changing something in BIOS. The only thing that helped me a bit is trying to reduce DPC Latency by changing something in bios and in windows. But I still have these problems. Can you help me?

Hey guys so I have a weird problem for a while now. I get micro freezes in all games and I always thought that I have a problem with my GPU. So I upgraded that from a MSI gtx970 to a MSI armor rtx2070. I did a fresh reinstall and installed all the latest drivers for both my GPU and motherboard (Z 170 - A) except for the bios one since I heard I shouldn't do that unless it's necessary. Now as you might assume it didn't help and the problem still exists. The Problem: Pretty much every game has very short freezes which are just annoying and also kind of ruin the experience. Also I have a problem where the PC just completely locks up and where nothing responds and only holding the reset button helps. (sometimes also I get a very loud static sounds out of my headset when it does that but no bluescreen) What I also noticed is that some games like PUBG and Overwatch don't really exceed 60% GPU usage and result in lower frames than I expect that graphics card to get. PUBG is most of the time hovering around 90fps but in bigger cities it gets around 60 fps all on ultra 1080p. If you need any benchmarks or graphs from MSI Afterburner I am ready to do them as you want, I finally want to put an end to this. Sidenotes: Dual screen setup 1080p@144hz (DP) 1080p@60hz (HDMI) I let the PC build from a company but the parts were picked from me except for the CPU and RAM. The PC is ~ 3 years old and I cleaned off the dust but without removing any parts I still own my old GPU (GTX970) so I could switch around for tests. The problem with the freezes existed from day one, the problem with the micro freezes started around 2 months ago All games are on the 1TB SSD, the operating system on the 250GB SSD Windows Powerplan is set to High performance (I have the german version so I don't know the word by word translation) GPU Powermanagement mode is set to Prefer Maximum Performance GPU is not overclocked in any way No BIOS settings have been altered with, but the mainboard seems to support some kind of CPU acceleration Benchmarks: Here I got Benchmarks of 3 different games: PUBG (runs terrible), BFV (runs good but freezes alot), Rocket League (seems to run fine, only game with FPS cap) Other stuff: HDD/SSD Health GPU readouts Specs: CPU: i7-6700 PSU: Antec VP600P Basic Series RAM: 2x 8GB PC 2133 CL15 crucial Hardrives: Samsung MZ-75E250 (250GB) 850 EVO (~3 years old), Toshiba DT01ACA100 (1TB) (~3 years old), Samsung 860 EVO (1TB) (~1 Month old) Motherboard: ASUS Z-170 A MB Intel 1151 GPU: MSI ARMOR RTX2070 Operating System: Windows 10 Home x64 Bit

I use a tecknet m268 gaming mouse (quite old). And when I move the pointer around it will sometimes just freeze for a second which is really annoying. It also does this when I am moving around in game, so I can still change direction with awsd but can't look around. Any help would really be much appreciated. I have checked and there were 2 mouse drivers, one of them the generic one and the other the logitech ghub so I deleted ghub and removed the driver but the freezing still occurs.

Following situation: My computer crashes and restarts without any warning or error messages and occasionally freezes when doing anything more resource-intensive than Minecraft. Setup: Motherboard - asrock 990fx extreme3 cpu: amd fx 8120 gpu: Geforce gtx 460 Win 10 psu: silenzio power lpk16-35 (600W) 250Gb ssd, 500Gb hdd ram: Corsair xms3 ddr3 2x8Gb 1600MHz The pc was used when i got it and had an hdd failure, but the ssd is new and the hdd is an old but functioning one. I got the gtx460 from a friend, it was working fine in his system. I have monitored the temps with multiple programs, they are totally fine. During the freezes, task manager shows that the cpu goes from high usage percentages down to 50%; the freezes also occur more often when doing more resource-intense stuff. I have an old amd firepro v4900 gpu laying around, there were no restart problems when using that one, but it doesn´t consume nearly as much power, it doesn´t need extra connectors and is passively cooled. Due to the lack of 2 6pin connectors for the gtx 460 i did some weird wiring with adapters to get it powered. When running FurMark, the pc crashes after 5-20 seconds, games usually take a little longer. (Watch Dogs 2 1min, Civ6 5min, dauntless 30sec). When testing for drive failure i encountered some bad errors pointing to sector failure from the hdd, but theres barely anything on that drive and i also tested the system with only the ssd, same results. The event viewer says that the computer wasn´t shut down correct but doesn´t tell why. What i already tried: reapplying thermal paste, no effect testing ram (memtest86), noissues windows diagnosis tool, no issues found Testing for drive failures, some bad sectors on the hdd testing with other gpu, restart porblem gone. So the question is: do i have to get a new psu? or is the gtx460 bad? I apologize for any grammar or spelling mistakes, i am german.

Hello Linus Tech Tips Community, While playing more demanding games, like the new Call of Duty or even GTA V, my PC suddenly freezes on one frame and leaves me with no other choice than to restart the computer. This usually happens after 5 - 60 minutes of playing. During the couple months I've had this problem, I've tried fixing this in multiple ways. Here's a list of what I've already done: - Made sure temperatures aren't too high (CPU below 70C and GPU below 80C at the moment of freezing) - Updated to the newest GPU drivers - I have NOT Overclocked anything - Reinstalled Windows (multiple times in fact) - Installed aforementioned games on a different drive (both SSD and HDD) - Tested a different GPU (swapped GTX 980 TI for a GTX 960 and the problem persisted) - Bought a new PSU (650W) and tried it with both the GTX 980 TI as well as the GTX 960 I think it's pretty safe to say the problem isn't caused by a faulty PSU, GPU, drive or Windows. I'm kind of running out of ideas here... Figured maybe some of you could suggest what to do next? Specs: Asus b350+ motherboard GTX 980 TI (also tried GTX 960) Ryzen 7 1700 3x 1TB HDDs 1x 240GB SSD (With Windows) Seasonic 650W PSU (Also tried Corsair CX650M) Thanks in advance, Aksu

Hello everyone, my pc has recently been acting weird, it has been working fine but today i booted it up and it just froze, nothing seemed to fix it (alt ctrl delete etc) i restarted the pc by holding the power button and turning it back on and the same freezing occured again. Then i restart again and get a windows didnt load correctly error, i decide the best thing to do is a startup repair but it froze even when doing that. After this i did a ram test and a hdd and ssd test and they seem fine. So i reinstalll windows and wipe my drives clear, same freezing again. I boot the pc in safe mode and it freezes AGAIN, i even had to redo the windows installation because it even froze in there. My specs are ryzen 3 2200g 8gb 2x4gb ram 3000mhz 400w coolermaster masterwatt lite b450m ds3h 120gb ssd 500gb hdd note: before all this there was nothing wrong with the pc, just now when i normally started it up it all happened please help me

After playing for a little while my PC will freeze and then if I swap my hdmi source it green screens I haven't a clue why. I've had mobo problems so I don't know if it's that or whether it could be my gpu. So I've had some concerning issues with my PC recently regarding random freezes and sometimes not booting at all. For some reason whenever I power off my PC and then turn it on the next day it sometimes will not do anything. In order for me to get the computer to boot I have to unplug the PSU plug from the surge protector and plug it back it for it to boot. More recently the computer will just randomly freeze while playing games. I'm assuming it is a power supply issue but I don't know what else could be the cause of the system doing this. My system is overclocked (CPU and GPUs) but they have always been like this and always stable so I don't think that is the problem but it may be. Ever since I updated my drivers from 18.6.1 I've been having issues with my Radeon drivers. I tried going to 18.7.1, 18.8.1 and 18.8.2 and I've had no luck. I have a 2 monitor setup 1 144hz and 1 60hz. I read the known issues for 18.7.1 and above and it says "Cursor or system lag may be observed on some system configurations when two or more displays are connected and one display is powered off." Here's the thing, I have both monitors turned on. The only fix is to unplug my 144hz monitor and have my 60hz display on. When I do it the other way around, Unplug my 60hz monitor and have my 144hz monitor on. It stutters still ! So basically my 60hz monitor only works. There isn't anything wrong with my 144hz monitor because any other drivers 18.6.1 and below work. I also tested my 144hz on another PC with a 1070 (it was my friends) and it worked. MSI AFTERBURNER STUTTERING! Hello everyone, I'm having a stupid issue that's really getting on my nerves. Whenever I have MSI Afterburner open and running, it CONSTANTLY 'applies profile' 1 which is a saved profile that I only have for my temp and power limit (No not for mining, just taking care of my hardware). When I play games, I have Afterburner opened on my other monitor and I see the "Profile 1 applied" sign pop up every 2 seconds and it stutters my game. Doesn't stutter my desktop though , possibly something to do with fullscreen of my game? idk. Anyways, don't know if anyone else has experienced this, though I genuinely couldn't figure it out, tried reinstalling and to no avail. Even got rid of my profile to no avail. Help please!

I was playing street fighter V (story mode) and completed the first chapter with no problems, everything ran smoothly (60fps+) at max settings 1080p. specs: gtx 960 2gb, 8gb ram, i7 6700, 500w power supply. But then a cutscene started playing then the game suddenly froze though the audio continued playing normally (It always freezes at the beginning of this cutscene but not on the exact point), so I exited the game using task manager and ran it again with task manager open my second screen: this is before it froze: this is after (I could still hear the audio)

Hey Linus community, I trusted this place for over 3 years and at this point you're my last chance on saving my pc. I build this Ryzen computer last August with these specs: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/vFymTH Since then my PC started acting up weird, on the last October a random freeze occurred (couldn't do anything and sound stopped working, I had to manually shutdown from the PSU), then it happened again somewhere in November same thing. I then using a DOCP profile to bump the memory clockspeed to 3200 but it was unstable (would cause blue screens frequently) so I set it back to defaults, right now everything is on auto and my BIOS version (for ROG Strix b-350f) is 3803 which I heard it has issues as well. Bare in mind that Asus made it super hard to downgrade back to an older Bios version so I'm gonna avoid doing that for now. Then then next time that my pc Froze was in February and 3 days ago I had my first black screen, I was working with Paint tool SAI and I see a chrome extension pop up saying that it's not functioning and then slowly everything froze except the mouse until the screen turned black (My monitor and pc were still working, the lights on the hardware were still working and the fans were still spinning). This is getting out of hand and I'm starting to regret for jumping onto this Ryzen bandwagon but heck I couldn't resist the 6 cores for this kind of price. This issue doesn't happen very often and never happens during gaming but it's starting to get out of hand. (happens around once in 1.5 to 4 weeks) So my theories are that it's most likely a software related problem but I'm not declining that it's a hardware issue either ( PSU/MOBO/RAM ), I haven't tried reinstalling my OS (I highly doubt that it's related to the problem, I haven't had this pc for over a year), neither have I tried using a single Ram dimm at a time. What I did try so far was updating my BIOS and GPU drivers and running Memtest86 (passed 4 rounds without any errors). Here are some personal questions: What other drivers should I update apart from GPU and BIOS? Is it a wise idea to sent it to a repair store? Please let me know if you need any more specific info from me, I will try my best to keep this question updated!

Heyo, After getting the screen of my HP spectre X360 replaced due to a defect in the glass, i have noticed that things like chrome and other windows applications causes the trackpad and other input devices to stutter, and cause the system to freeze for anywhere between 2 to 30 seconds, ive tried some basic troubleshooting steps including reinstalls a driver updates, all to no avail, if anyone can suggest some fixes, that would be much appreciated.

Hello Everyone. I recently built my wife a new computer using the Ryzen 5 2400g and have had nothing but headaches. I was aware of the Bios update and was well prepared for accomplishing that, however that was the easiest thing about this build. I had everything put together and loaded win10 1703 build I had on a thumbdrive. That is when the nightmare began. I kept getting BSODs and couldn't even get through updating win10, so i created a new file on a newly formatted thumbdrive using win10 1709 build. Things were significantly better after that. I got through all of the win10 updates and moved on to the drivers. I kept getting BSODs but not as frequently so i pushed on. The last driver I updated was the AMD Vega 11 driver for the APU. Prior to performing that update the display adapter said it was a Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. After the update the GPU was recognized as a Vega device. I am still getting the BSODs at a regular interval and sometimes i get a green screen. Everything i have read about this topic says it has to be a driver issue some where, but which one. I have updated them all and have no idea which one is still causing the crashes. I even had a freeze while I was in the Bios once last night. I had to reset the computer to fix it. That seems odd to me that it happened in the Bios screen. I am contemplating sending the 2400g back and getting the 1600 and a cheap graphics card since this will not be a gaming rig (I put that one in my gaming computer and have had zero issues with it). I am just wondering if the that will fix the issue or is the issue in the windows loaded on the SSD. Please help and Thank you in advance. I get a lot of errors and even more BSODs for about 2 months now. It's an old PC, I'll list it below. My problem is this: IT CRASHES EVERY DAY MULTIPLE TIMES. It is getting unusable at this rate, my family and I have both sensitive data in there and many good reasons to use it daily. I've tried taking almost everything (except for the motherboard) apart and piecing it all back together, manually checking for any driver that needs updating, run Windows Defender and a lot of tests and repairs (like Memtest 64, C: drive repairs, etc) several times, tweaked the startup/boot settings anjd even taken it to a PC technician who somehow damaged my motherboard, killed my sound and practically stole 100$ from me for a couple of new memory sticks. I need help bcause I can't find anyone reliable around my parts to help with diagnosing my PC. The specs for it are the following: ASRock Extreme4 motherboard, AMD FX-4100m CPU, Asus Radeon HD6450 GPU, 2x Kingston HyperX Blu 1333MHz Dual Channel kit + 2x Kingston 1333MHz Dual Channel kit RAM, Mtech 450W PSU (I know...). Thank you if you read this and please help, I'm getting desperate.
