  1. This is a little project that I've done ofr my GCSE that controls fan speed based on ambient temperature. The thermistor is twist-tied to a thermometer and three case fans are plugged to the controller (although it can control up to 7). The product is powered by a Molex connector and the white Led flashes when the ambient temperature reaches over 30 degrees Celsius. I'm sorry about the quality but I had to use my phone and the S340's side panel was very reflective in these lighting condition. I suggest seeing the start of the video and then forwarding to the end to see the difference. I used the folding@home client to increase temperatures as that is the most intensive task that I leave to do continuously. From what you can see, any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7TF4twYenMrRVcyWmd5R09uVk0/view?usp=sharing What do you think of the aesthetics? What do you think of its usability? Is there anything you like/dislike? In general, if a product like this was available, would you be interested in purchasing it and, if so, how much would you be willing to pay?
  2. Hi guys, I'm planning on adding some extra fans in my build. Currently, I have 4 fans (Corsair SP 120mm) on a quad rad, 2 fans (Scythe 120mm) as case fan, all are non pwm. And I plan to skip pwm type and just control them with software (or hardware fan controller) later on. So here is my situation, I plan to add one quad rad for my gpu, and adding 12 fans (Corsair SP 120mm) to complete a push & pull configuration on both rads; and maybe adding 2 120mm fans as case fan eventually. So in that case, I would have maximum 20 fans. I have never bought fan controller or hub previously, so I thought it's a good idea to get some suggestions from experienced builders! Here are a few things I would prefer: If I go for fan controller, I can only go for either two single-5" controllers, or one double-5" controller. If I go for fan hub, it would be nice that the hub can connect up to 8 fans, because later on it's easier to control in software. I want to try to keep it at 2 or max 3 hubs, because I try to minimize cables to the motherboard. Any ideas and suggestions are appreciated! A side question, is it ok to connect fan hubs to a fan controller? For example, if I connect 8 fans to a hub, another 8 fans to another hub; and with a controller (say it has only 4 connectors) I could possibly connect 2 hubs to 2 of connectors, then use 2 slip cables to connect the other 4 case fans to the other 2 connectors; would this be possible? Or would it over work the controller? Thanks in advance!
  3. Hi, At the moment with my MSI Gaming 7, I can not set case fans to less than 50% fan speed but I can set the CPU fan headers to 10% fan speed with some curves. Therefore, I would like to connect my 3 case fans to one CPU fan header but I need help to find a powered PWM splitter. In the UK, I can't find the swiftech 8-pin pwm fan splitter so I am asking if anyone knows any other ones available Thanks
  4. Hello Guys ! I wanted to check my airflow with you guys and see your opinions. My plan A is to have the 2 intake fans with more RPM than the others so it can have a balance amount of intake and exhaust. My plan B would probably to sell the fan controller and get another 120mm and put all fans with the same RPM. What do you guys think? ( Check case below ) Another question is should I put the fans above or under the radiator. Parts CPU Cooler - Cooler Master Nepton 240M 76.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler https://pcpartpicker.com/part/cooler-master-cpu-cooler-rln24m24pkr1 Fans - Cooler Master JetFlo 95.0 CFM 120mm ( 3 Exhaust , 2 Intake ) https://pcpartpicker.com/part/cooler-master-case-fan-r4jfdp20pbr1 ( I know this fans are loud as f#@! but I dont care much about that I just want good perfomance and I saw they can push a crazy amount of air ) Fan Controller - NZXT SENTRY 3 Fan Controller https://pcpartpicker.com/part/nzxt-fan-controller-acsen3b1
  5. Hey There, I've Been Been Building A Custom Pc. Im Using Lots Of Fans To Cool It (6), Is It Worth Getting A Fan Controller To Control When Certain Fans Need To Input/Output Air . Thanks For Reading, If You Have A Suggestion Please Reply.
  6. whats the best fan controller that doesn't take up a 5.25 bay as i have none. although i have plenty of hdd bays and ssd brackets. also rather not have dials as i have no way of getting in the case without taking the whole side panel off. thanks maybach123
  7. As the title states I own this fan controller. Here is a link to it's official product page: http://www.lamptron.com/product/controllers/fc5-v2/ So basically I have this operating 5 Noctua fans (x2, x2, x1), leaving the 4th channel empty. I have set it to display voltage instead of temps and it shows RPM as standard. When the PC is initially powered on, the Fans won't spin up. They do however if I bump the voltage with the knob to max and then I can put them back down to what I need them to be. Is there a way to force the controller to send a 12V signal at system startup and then normalize after a few seconds or ? The fans are 4x Noctua NF-F12 2000RPM PWM and 1x Noctua NF-A14 2000RPM PWM and it does say that they need 12V to start on the spec page. The other problem actually is when they go below 7V, the RPM stops being read I can still see that the fan is spinning slower and all, it's just I don't know what RPM they are going at. Not sure if that's the controller being buggy or perhaps the fans not working properly or not transmitting data under 7V. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!
  8. Hello. I recently purchased a Razer Blade 2014 14. I have 2 problems with it. The first problem is cpu temps. While the fans in the laptop do work, the fan curve seems to be a bit lacking. For example, when I ran Space Engineers, the cpu briefly jumped up to 93 degrees Celsius, before the fans sped up a bit and brought it back down to about 83 degrees Celsius. I know that this is within spec for the laptop, but it is still pretty dang hot and I will gladly sacrifice fan noise for more cooling. Is there any way to make the fan cooling curve more aggressive, so that the fans are running faster and keeping the cpu cooler? I have already tried to use speedfan, but it cant seem to find any fans or sensors to display and control. My second problem is less of an issue, but the illuminated razer logo on the back of the screen is very dim, and is not nearly as bright as in pictures, or even in Linus's video. It is not even close to as bright as the apple logo on my macbook. How do I increase its brightness? It is not affected by screen brightness, or keyboard brightness. Thanks.
  9. Hi folks this is my first forum post ever:)!!! I need to know if the Corsair Static Pressure fans will work with a non pwm fan controller and how well will I be able to control their speeds, if not can someone recommend a good controller that's not too expensive has a display and can take a temp probe from a water cooling loop, and has atleast 5 channels. Thanks.....Linus your the bomb!!!!!!!
  10. Hey, I have a NZXT H440 Black/Red, and wondering is there a way to controller the Fan Controller in the back of the H440? I am running 6 fans including the Corsair H100i GTX, (ALL SP120s and AF140). What do i need to do to Control the Fan Controller in the Back?
  11. So I just built another PC, a mini ITX. I'm using 5 case fans, but the motherboard has only one fan header (SYS_FAN) apart from the CPU fan. So I got the NZXT Grid along with it so I can use all my fans. It works, but all the fans are at 100% and I can't control their speed, neither through the BIOS or in Windows with Speedfan. It'll simply show either 0 RPM or 1200-ish, changing them does nothing. Now, I know you don't get PWM control with 3-pin headers (both the NZXT Grid and the fans themselves are 3-pin), but at least I should be able to adjust the RPM somehow? My other computer also uses 3-pin fans on a fan controller, and it works without a problem there. Motherboard: MSI Z97I AC Fans: 5x Phanteks PH-F140SP NZXT Grid fan hub/splitter Fans plugged into Grid, Grid powered by PSU molex and also connected to the motherboard's SYS_FAN header. I mean sure, I could get an actual fan controller and find a place to stash it in my case, but I've read dozens of reviews of the NZXT Grid saying that they're able to adjust the fan speeds as long as the Grid is connected to the motherboard.
  12. Hi I've bought my PC about a half year ago. I found it awesome back then and now, when I unleashed it's true potential, I find it even greater! You see, the problem is that my period of blind love for it has lasted and now I can see all pros and cons of it. For example, I built it to run cool. It is really conscientious in this regard (never going above 50 degrees on CPU and 60 on GPU in full load while being air cooled very cheaply!), but now I can clearly see that it is loud as f*ck. I tried to change it's fan curves in BIOS and in ASRock A-Tuning software (I've got an Z97 Extreme3 motherboard). It was a bit quieter, but then my everything in the chassy got hotter by at least 5-10 degrees. Plus the controls weren't perfect and these often didn't work. Right now I have 3 1500 RPM pre-installed Zalman fans (the case is Zalman R1 - by the way, if you're considering buying it then I can really recommend it, it's really nice and frosty, but just know that this sound dumping material on the front doesn't change s*it), 1 CPU fan (the cooler is CM Hyper 212 EVO), 1 PSU fan and 3 fans on the GPU (it's a Gigabyte Windforce GTX 970). I'm super annoyed by the sound that PC makes, so I started thinking about changing fans to Noctua NF-S12Bs 700RPM - quietest on the market I believe, but I'm not sure if I should change the case fans or add them to the case. Contemplating the second option one problem came to my mind - even though I can plug them all to motherboard easily, I wouldn't be able to change their speeds because of problems with mentioned software. So I started thinking about a fan controller, with which I wouldn't have any problems in terms of controlling their speeds. I started doing a little bit of research and I just can't find any that would suit me. And what suits me? I want it to be controlled by software in the os and to be cheap. That way I would be able to define their fan curves and not only change their speeds by desire. And here my questions come to you: 1. What do you think about the fan configuration? Should I change these 3 to NF-S12Bs, add 2 of them to make 5 in total (and then set them all to the same low RPMs via the fan controller) or save some money and just invest in fan controller (and then set them to desired RPM curves)? 2. Are there other fans like NF-S12Bs (as quiet and cheaper, maybe in black-white color scheme)? 3. Is there a fan controller that would suit my needs? If not, then is there something that you would recommend? 4. What do you think about buying and gluing some sound dumping 4mm thick material inside the chassy? I think about SilverStone SF01. Thanks in advance
  13. I tested this fan controller outside of my build first, to make sure it was working; it was - no issues. I then unplugged unused fan header extension cables and the temperature sensors, then installed it in a 5.25" bay. When I turned my computer on, the fans did not spin up. The LCD screen still turns on, and the temperature sensors (which i plugged back in after freaking out about maybe killing new hardware) displayed the ambient temperature. I noticed that there was glue holding the temperature sensor connectors in; the transistors below were not damaged in the glue's removal (if they were i doubt the unit would still function). Nothing else was touched and I was grounded during the installation. The fan controller appears to no longer supply power to any fans connected to any of its 5 fan slots, as pressing the fan symbol (to change the speed of the currently selected fan) no longer responds. The fans function normally on all of my motherboard's headers. The same molex power connector was used before and after the loss of fan control, and for good measure I tried other ones. Anyone have any insight into what the problem could be? tl;dr Fan controller worked fine outside of computer, stopped powering fans after installation.
  14. Hai -- Background info, you can skip this to get straight to the question.. -- First of I'd like to point out that I'm sort of a noise 'freak' and want my PC to be really silent, especially when I'm not gaming. So I switched out a lot of components (case, psu, cpu-cooler, hdd -> ssd) just for making it more silent which worked great. (see profile for specs). When I upgraded to an MSI GTX 970 Gaming and overclocked it, I had issues with the noise it produced compared to my Gigabyte GTX 670 OC. It was even thermal throttling at the fanspeed that resembled the noise of the 670 (I always set a custom fan-profile in MSI Afterburner and keep thermal limit to max 79°C). So I started to look around on the web and found this interesting review about fan placement in a Define R3. That made it clear that it was probably just my front fan that was too far away while running at the quiet 5V speed. So I mounted the front intake-fan to the side as an intake, which worked absolute wonders for the temperatures (45% gpu fanspeed and thermal throttling turned into 45% and 72-75°C over long periods at 1500Mhz). But it introduced a new problem (*sigh*).. I learned about air vibration and the horrible whining noise it makes against the honeycomb grill of the Define R5. Tested some things and one solution turned out to be mounting it on the outside of my case. It worked really well actually, the whining noise was gone and temps were still rock solid. After that I was looking for a solution to get that fan on the inside without losing those great temperatures. So I bought myself a silent Noctua NF-A14 ULN fan. Turns out this Noctua fan isn't all that quiet when you actually install it, because it reacts worse to grills and dust-filters right next to it (not a whining noise but a very noticable noise), even with the ULN adapter. I felt like it was producing a bunch more airflow than my Define R5 casefans (GP-14) on 5V and thought it was probably because of that. So I connected the Noctua fan with the fan controller of the R5, The fan didn't start on 5V and 7V without giving it a small swing with the finger to get it going. It started immediately of course with 12V. It did however keep running at 5V once it spinned. Took my sidepanel and put the fan against the grill.. and Whoop whoop, no noise and no whining on the inside of the case! Hooray! well almost. I now have to put my Fancontroller on 12V everytime I start my PC now. That's where the question comes in: Does anyone know a stable solution or fan controller that can kickstart (12V) the fan when the pc turns on and then goes to 5V? -- TLDR: Question -- So because the Noctua NF-A14 ULN fan does not start at 5V, I'd like to get a solution to kick-start that fan at 12V for a second and then go to 5V for the rest of the time. Does anyone know of a Fan Controller that can start the fan(s) at 12V for a brief moment before going to 5V? Thanks
  15. Which one should I get? My budget is $30-$35. It would be powering 4 fans. 2 from the water cooler and 2 case fans
  16. Hello, i recently bought an N450 and at first i was oblivious until i went to turn the case off that it was unusually hot. Only to discover none of the case mounted fans were on. I played around with the fan hub and discovered that only the pwm port on the hub is provided with power (swapped cpu fan out and found that the case fan i swapped worked). Does anyone know of this issue at all. Mobo is an Asrock extreme 4 and my psu is an EVGA 550w G2 Many thanks, Minuit
  17. Right so I have this set up: Case Corsair 650D case 3 Pin Front Intake fans 1 x 200mm 1 x 120mm Corsair SP (static pressure) quiet edition, at the front in the optical drive bay to cool my hard drives (via some modding) 3 Pin Top Exhaust fans 2 x 120mm corsair AF (air flow) quiet editions 3 Pin Rear Exhaust fan 1 x 120mm corsair AF (air flow) quiet edition 4 Pin CPU fan - Mounted on a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo 1 x 120mm PWM corsair SP (static pressure) quiet edition The front intake, top exhaust and rear exhaust fans are all connected via the built in fan controller of the 650D case. They are also connected with the low speed adapter included with all the corsair fans. Obviously the pulse width modulation (PWM) of the CPU fan will control that as needed. I have multiple questions so here it goes: Does this fan configuration sound good for cooling? I've tried to balance both intake and exhaust. Does it matter what speed the (non CPU) case fans spin at? I've reduced the speed via the low speed adapter so the fans are quieter. The built in fan controller of the corsair 650D case only has 2 pin headers. What does this mean? The case fans are all 3 pin, and I've tested them in both the motherboard and the built in fan controller. And on the motherboard the 3 pin headers are much louder than the 2 pin headers on the built in case fan controller. Thank you for your time that is all.
  18. Hey guys, like the title says I was wondering if you guys use software or a physical fan controller to change/monitor fan speeds? If software, what do you use?, I was recommend SpeedFan. If physical, what kind of fan controller do you use? I'd like some recommendations, Thanks
  19. Hello, I've bought and installed the NZXT Grid+ V2 Fan controller Today Mainly because I want to control my Fans Individually. So I downloaded the CAM Software, Logged in and it detected the Grid+ V2.... I set it all up (Change Mode, etc...) But it wont let me control individual fans? Someone help me How?! Thanks for your Time, Doug
  20. so im wondering if there any auto fan controller for radiator. probably have to have one with temp probes so it can turn on or turn off fans when needed thanks maybach123
  21. Hey y'all, bought a new PC but thinking about changing some of the fans for quieter ones. Case fans are quite loud (NZXT stock) and so is the radiator from my H110. But, in this meanwhile, I'd like to create a fan controller. Will it potentially fry my mobo and the entire planet or is it safe to go? I'm thinking for something quite like this one Thanks in advance
  22. Hello all and kindly thank you for stumbling upon this thread. I have just bought myself two Alchemy 2.0 30cm LED strips and would like to connect them to my Lamptron CW611. Now, the problem is the connectivity off the LED strips. ^ This is what I got in the Alchemy box. ^ This is what I use to connect fans to the CW611, basically 3-pin fan extensions with male at the ends. What I want to do is connect the 2 LED strips through an Akasa fan splitter and use one channel to control the brightness. Now, how do I connect the two of them together seeing how the adapters I bought the Noctua NA-SAC1 have males at the end as well (obviously very stupid of me for not checking before hand). I am writing because I am pretty sure I am missing on something really obvious and any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks!
  23. Hi, I have a Fractal Design R5 case with an inbuilt fan controller with 3 x 3 pin female fan cables coming out of it, I just bought a noctua PWM fan with a 4 pin male fan cable. I bought it because i didn't think it mattered since you can connect 4 pin fans to 3 pin motherboard but I just figured out that the 4 pin male cable does no fit into the 3 pin female cable. My question is, are there any adapters I can buy, I looked in Amazon but I couldn't find any, it just gets me a bunch of molex to 4 pin adapters. Thank you
  24. I have a really nice mATX case with blue LED fans, the Anidees Ai7(http://www.anidees.com/ai7). It' a great case and all the stocks fans are blue LED lit, and they're quite nice considering you're getting four, however, it is quite noisy. I would like to remedy this problem, although I am not very knowledgable as far cooling fans go. Would getting a fan controller help regulate fan speeds thus lowering the noise? Or should I get new fans, and what fans should I get? Thanks
  25. What fan controller would be good for me? I have 4 fans for intake/outtake and I would like to have them speed up whenever the in-case temperature gets hot. All answers are appreciated.
