A friend of mine got a BSOD last night that said KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR (cdrom.sys). After that he booted back up and was informed that there was no OS on his HDD, followed by "ERROR: No boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed". Okay, so dead HDD, right? The thing is, it's from a trustworthy brand (WD), is less than a year old, and he takes good care of his PC and hasn't used up even close to the whole TB on it (like 15%). So is this just a freak early death, or could it be something else? I'm about to pop over there and have a look, what should we try? Thanks.

Hey guys, During the last couple of weeks, I've had this annoying issue. When playing graphically demanding games such as : Fallout 4, The witcher 2, Project Cars, Skyrim, batman arkham origins and sometimes Cs:Go, my screen would lose signal and I'd have to restart the computer to fix it. When this occurs, sound is still playing in the background (generally). I'd sometimes hear a buzzing sound, which is why I believe the problem comes from a hardware issue (sound comes from my pc as it is linked to speakers). Sometimes, when it occurs, I can't restart my computer instantly : monitor won't find any signal, and I'd have to wait an hour or so in order to have a functionnal pc (until next crash). Here are my specs : http://imgur.com/UgUpM9S My computer is running Windows 10. I checked the temps with Speccy and HWMonitor : no issues whatsoever. GPU idles around 40-50 degrees Celsius and CPU 40. While gaming, GPU and CPU temps are normal as well. I tried switching the cable linking my monitor to my pc (used to be DVI-DVI, tried HDMI-HDMI), didn't work. Windows says my GTX 970 drivers are up to date. Personally, I think the PSU might be failing, as everything worked flawlessly before. What do you guys think? I've seen a lot of people on internet with the exact same issue, however I couldn't find any significant fix; at least for me. Thanks a lot.

Hello everybody. Well, my PC seems to reboot itself when under heavy load. But it seems to only be doing it when I have SLI enabled, when it is Disabled or when I take out one of the two 970's, It does not reboot (I tested it with 20min Furmark and 10min Valley Benchmark) With SLI it can be a couple of seconds before it reboots, or it can be up to 15 minutes before it reboots. The GPU1 reached around 65C temp, the GPU2 Goes up to 80C but then goes up and down between 79C and 80C. I also tried turning the Power limit down to 80% and 50%, 80 it rebooted after a couple of minutes, 50% it rebooted immediately. I'm about to run a memtest to just check if it could be RAM related. Is the problem PSU related or what am I dealing with here? PC Specs: PSU: Cooler Master G750M GPU: 2x MSI GTX 970 CPU: i7 4790K RAM: 16GB SSHD: Seagate Desktop SSHD 1TB Motherboard: MSI Z97-Gaming 5

So this other day when I woke up and was about to use my computer I saw that it was off and not in sleep mode. I didn't think much of it, but when I booted up the system I got the message that I was to insert boot drive. This befuddled me a little bit and I tried restarting a few times getting the same error message before I looked in the BioS. Among my 3 discs only my 2 HDD storage drives were detected (as well as the DVD-ROM (yes I still have one of those)). I tried to unplug one of the detected HDDs and use the SATA Cable connected to the HDD to connect the SSD. This did not help. I also tried different SATA ports on the MBO to no success. I Know the SSD is getting power since it humms slightly when the system is powered on. The SSD in question is an OCZ Vertex 2 120GB Sata II drive. MBO is Asus P8P67 Pro 3.1 rev. The drive has been mounted to the chassis in a proper cage since i built the system.

So i've been having a lot of issues with my Asus ROG G750JM, if you want full details I have an earlier post that goes over the issues. I think I many have found the problem. I think my laptop is just a drive killer. There must be something wrong with the connection, that's the only thing I can think that would cause these issues. My first hard drive, i'm not sure what happened to it, but it is certainly dead. The second HDD, I know is definitely a goner. It makes a clicking sound now when it runs, that's no good. Something's definitely wrong with the spin. It's gone, I feel uncomfortable with it being in my system at all at this point. Now i'm having issues with my SSD, it's not even starting up. I think it's probably dead too. The connection itself must be faulty because for the last year every time my laptop has any significant vibrations (such as me hitting the desk) the OS would crash and the drives would fail. I could always reboot and they'd come on, but that doesn't change that something must be wrong with the connection. I wanted to think that something was wrong with the power supply and the drives were getting too much power, but it has to be connected to the faulty drive connection. I'm not entirely sure what to think anymore. I want to check to see if the drives are still functional, but I don't have an extra computer to test it on other than the one i'm using now, but I don't want to open this laptop up or i'll void the warranty. What do you guys think the problem might be? In the meantime i'll see if I can find something to test these drives on. If it is a hardware problem with the computer there's really nothing I can do.

OK, when I connected my Xbox One pad to the front USB 3.0 header, I saw a bit of smoke come out of micro usb socket on Xbox One pad... it was instantly melted. Structurally the tip of the micro usb cable was still intact but you could see burnt edges. Now, I can't even turn my PC on. It's safe to assume the PSU has died? I hope it's not the motherboard... Why did this happen??? Any ideas. I have a Corsair HX1200i with 2 AMD Fury X video cards installed...

My Laptop Came with a 500 gb Hard drive with the Os and everything. I have been using my laptop fairly often , lets say 12 hours a day recently (probably more ) because i am on break from college ofc, However i wanted to back up my Os on a hard drive and i noticed some severe lack in transfer speeds . i didnt think much of it first but using HD tune 2.55 i saw that almost 70% of my drive is transferring at speeds around 1.5 mb/s. Should i be worried about my Drive Failing , cause linus said decrease in performance usually means that the drive is going to die, And if it is going to die, can i just copy over my OS files to another drive and swap it out or, do i need cloning software? , and if i do which is the most recommended

I tried delidding 2 CPUs today. Same issue both times, the TIM around the edges came off easy, while it was like concrete on the actual CPU, causing the actual CPUs to rip off with the heat spreader. The Q6600 kinda ripped in half, with silicon particles falling out and pretty severe damage to the CPU, but it made for cool microscope pictures. Any suggestions of how to not have this problem happen? I still have an old Xeon laying around, although it has a lot of modules on top of the PCB I will have to work around. http://imgur.com/a/Tf8G1 is there any way of posting an imgur album link here? EDIT: someone mentioned it could have been because it was Soldered on, which I have heard about but didnt even consider. Is this the case?

Problem: My custom built computer has been functioning fine for roughly two years. Sadly, as of late, it seems as though it has begun to shit the bed. Roughly two weeks ago, the NIC on my motherboard died. I decided to disassemble the computer and send the motherboard out for an RMA. Upon receival of my "new" motherboard (a month and a half later -- thanks MSI) I passionately put the computer back together and hit the power button...so far so good! I was able to boot into the BIOS, load my OS from my hard drive, and begin tooling around the internet once again! After about five minutes of joyous internet freedom, Windows 10 decided that it was time to install some "updates". My computer powered down..and five minutes went by...and then another five. Seeing that my computer wasn't going to restart any time soon I held the power button down for five seconds to make sure it had truly turned off. After pressing the power button again, nothing happened. I decided to resort to the number one problem solving solution in the world -- I unplugged my computer and plugged it back in -- only to begin panicking as my computer was still not booting back up. Frustrated, I decided to take my computer out of the chassis and bench it. This process took roughly twenty minutes. After plugging in only the the CPU and PSU and hitting the power button, my computer once again booted up (CPU fans were spinning). I turned the computer off again and then began to add more components one at a time, turning the computer off between each addition of a new component. During this process, on multiple occasions my computer would once again refuse to boot up after being powered down. Every time I ran into this issue, I had to unplug my PSU and wait roughly twenty to thirty minutes before being able to reboot my computer. I have uploaded some videos to YouTube that show the issue I am running into (see the YouTube section) -- apologizing for the potato quality ahead of time. TL;DR: My computer seems to fail to boot up sporadically. Sometimes it will turn on, sometimes it won't. All of the cables are connected properly. What I Have Tried: Turning the computer off and then back on. Disconnecting and reconnecting all cables (at least 10 times). Tested the PSU using a paperclip, PSU checker, and a voltmeter (I don't think the PSU is the issue). Fresh install of Windows 10 on two different hard drives with the correct drivers freshly installed. Flashed BIOS to the most current version (most current version retrieved from my MOBOs support website) Booting computer with only the CPU. Booting computer with only the CPU and RAM. Booting computer with only the CPU, RAM, and GPU. Crying. Everything suggested here: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/42440-readme-how-to-respond-to-a-no-post-or-no-power-up-situation/ More crying. Suspicions: I believe the root cause to be one of two things: a faulty motherboard or a faulty CPU (plot twist -- maybe both?). While I would love to just go out and build an entire new rig, I am unfortunately not rich. First, let's begin with why I don't think it's the PSU. I tried the paperclip test and my PSU turned on just fine. I have also used a PSU checker and again, everything seems to be fine. I have also tested my PSU with a voltmeter and once again, everything seems to be fine. I also don't believe this to be an issue with my GPU -- I find it hard to believe that a faulty / defective GPU could cause the behavior I am seeing; however, I am not an expert so I could be horribly incorrect (as I find myself more often than naught). I also don't believe my RAM is the root cause of the issue. I have two sticks of RAM and have tried all of the aforementioned troubleshooting steps with one stick of ram in DIM 1, 2, 3, and 4 -- it never made a difference. As a result, I am forced to believe that one of the two remaining components, the motherboard or the CPU, is/are faulty/defective. I want to have faith in MSI and believe they did not spend a month and a half on a motherboard RMA only to send me another defective motherboard -- that's probably too much to ask though...The one thing that I find to be HIGHLY suspicious (watch the YouTube videos please...), is that my motherboard's BIOS reports that my CPU is between 67C-70C. I don't know much about the expected temperatures of computer components, but that seems way too fucking hot for a CPU that should be idling in the BIOS. Questions: Can a faulty motherboard report incorrect CPU temperatures in the BIOS? Is the BIOS reported CPU temperature suspicious? What do you think might be the root cause of the issue I am seeing? If you have ever formatted a USB flash drive to install windows on a new rig, the Media Creation Tool will format your drive to a proprietary format, that makes the drive have a maximum capacity of 32GB. When you decide to revert the USB flash drive back to NTFS, You will only be able to select 32GB of capacity. If you used a drive with any capacity over 32GB, the original storage space will be inaccessible. To repair your drive, follow these instructions. 1. press Winkey+R. 2. type "cmd" and press Enter. 3. type "diskpart.exe" in cmd and press Enter. *accept the popup, new window opens. 4. in this window, type "list disk" and press Enter. *Find your disk, this is usually "disk 1". 5. type "select 1" and press Enter. *before continuing, be sure the drive does not have any wanted files! 6. type "clean" and press Enter. this will wipe the drive of partitions and files. 7. type "create partition primary" and press Enter. 8. type "list disk" and press Enter. You should see that disk 1 now has the original capacity. *Now that you have recovered your USB flash drive capacity, you will have to re-format the drive. 9. type "format fs:NTFS quick" and press Enter. *wait for this process to be completed. after this is complete, you can close the command prompts. Your drive is now repaired, and ready to be used as normal.

So one of the drives in my C: drive array (2x 120gb raid 0) failed and I lost all my data. I went into Ubuntu and reformatted the drives and I also reformatted the drives using this the recovery usb I made a while back and following these instructions http://www.jwgoerlich.us/blogengine/post/2009/11/05/Use-Diskpart-to-Create-and-Format-Partitions.aspx I then rebooted the PC and clicked trouble shoot and then reset your PC so I click yes repartition the drives. But it then says unable to reset your PC .the system drive cannot be found. Can someone please help me solve this problem in thinking I might have to buy another Windows 8.1 product key , installable usb or what ever. Please help

So Clocking in 86 hours and facing various struggles and meeting some great friends. I present my review of the, The Division. The Review will be split into sections in order to make this easy to view and see. =Overview= =Gameplay= =Pros= =Issues/Cons= =Suggestions/Personal Thoughts= = Overview= The Division is based off of Operation Dark Winter. Operation Dark Winter was a attack simulation, which involved the smallpox virus, this was to show how chaos would eventually overwhelm America's health care system and cause major issues with isolating the virus and the people of the virus. Now In The Division this has happened, you're a sleeper cell in New York city, becoming finally activated, and will try anything and everything in order to save your hometown and the people you made friends and family with. Its up to you to save New York City either by yourself or with your other fellow Division Soldiers. =Gameplay= The game play is a cover based shooter/RPG/MMO. Your character unlike normal cover based shooters like Ghost Recon, requires numerous amounts of bullets, which usually earns this game as a bullet sponge game. Also unlike other RPGS/MMO's while you use equipment to increase your stats, in The Division however equipment determines everything, from the extra bonus damage your guns do, to your health and skill power, so leveling does nothing but enable you to equip more and more higher tier equipment, they also provide other protections from enemies and other things. And like MMO's and RPG's you can see how much damage each attack does, which we see as numbers, each number color shows something different, sometimes white, gold and blue. These means three different things, white means health damage which is the " True " health bar, blue numbers means damage to armor enemies are wearing and gold numbers mean critical damage which of course means extra damage than usual. In The Division, we can see each stat and the values, however there is an issue that arrives in this game. Unlike normal RPG/MMO's there is a set limit to certain stats, however In The Division there isn't a very clear distinction, because sometimes higher values lets say, %To Critical Hit is 90% however in the recent patch it caps it 60% which is Ok, but the game doesn't stop the value from going higher which can cause massive confusion and issues because while your expect to get 90% of your shots to do a critical hit each bullet in reality only has a 60% of doing critical damage. Which to a RPGer whom does Min-Maxing ( The act of achieving the most effective build or stats that doesn't require changing the build or stats for the remaining of the game ) can cause major outcry and even massive confusion. There is also some stats that clearly don't note what they do. A clear example of this is Threat, in the game all the value says is percentage of threat, which doesn't tell the player anything whatsoever, and simply is a guessing game unless you scourge the internet for information WHICH A RPG shouldn't require unless doing the hardest of hard missions or quest. I still don't currently even know what Threat does. The game is a RPG, however level don't give a clear distinction of the power enemies have against you. Even when you're the same level as the enemies. For example during a intense struggle of me trying to do a mission solo, at level 18 and the enemies are at level 20 and 19 you think you would stand a chance against them, however unlike a normal RPG where since your near their level which means you would have a mild struggle at best, this game cranked the enemies to doomsday levels. Enemies that killed me within 3-4 shots while am struggling to even do a dent to their armor and health. Which lead to me being extremely salty and asking players in the chat for massive help, when they told me 12k health wasn't even enough to do that mission it lead me to a massive conclusion that levels and equipment are not even one in the same when it comes to baddies like normal RPG's or MMO's unless its clearly a boss or a special monster. In the game there is skills and talents which is a very nice touch, meaning your Agent can on top of having three skills they can have 4 talents which help actively in battle and activating at once and forever as long as you met the requirement to activate said skill such as battle medic, which increases healing by 40% and heals nearby allies within 20M when using a medical kit. However unlike MMO's and RPG's there are talents which can destroy or disrupt other players or even your own skills/talents. WHICH IS A BIG F******* NO NO IN THE RPG WORLD. If there is a BLOODY talent that destroys your skill THEN WHAT IS THE POINT OF USING THAT TALENT !? Of course if it said using this talent destroys X skill then that would be fine however IT DOES NOT SAY THAT ANYWHERE IN THE GAME, Combat Medic talent said above destroys Smart Cover a skill which reduces damage and increases damage for players. Mobsters mobs in this game level up as you do, and by level I mean they sure as hell stay stronger than you unless you got the equipment. However the problem is that there is so many mobs that have armor, from wannabe gangsters to trashman who use makshift flamethrowers, that DOESN't MAKE ANY SENSE. Sure you the character has armor HOWEVER this doesn't do teh same thing as enemy armor. Armor for agents reduces damage to you by a certain percentage capping at 75%. However for Enemies its a white bar above their health which gives them extended health AND is a requirement to destroy their " Real HP" not even headshots to unprotected faces still deals damage to the darn armor which can a massive pain to deal with. NOTE! : will finish after doing some business with family. STAY TUNED.

Day 17: I am still without a working PC. MSI has yet to even unload my mobo off their RMA truck and scan it in despite receiving it 4 days ago. I hope that if and when it comes I will not run into the same problems I encountered before. One of my USB 3.0 header's pins were bent so I sucked up to MSI in a letter included with my shipment. I have been stuck on a 2014 Macbook Air provided by my school. I have already exhausted time-wasting options like watching all four seasons of House of Cards and have been continuously refreshing Newegg for the EVGA GTX 1080 FTW. I have not eaten any FPS since the day my beloved was taken away from me. I worry that when I return my membership to the PC Master Race will be honored. Send help. Sincerely, bill

I recently built my new rig and I am running some stress tests on my system to ensure stability. Everything works fine when using Asus' ROG RealBench software but when I use AIDA64 I start running into issues. The first time I ran AIDA64 I ran the stress test with stock preferences and settings for the trial version and the CPU, FPU, Cache, Memory, and GPU boxes checked. The test ran for 4 1/2 hours before a hardware failure was detected. I then tried running the test again and this time it only lasted 20 minutes. I then unchecked the 'Stress GPU' box and tried again, and it only lasted about 20 minutes again. I am now running the test without the 'Stress Memory' box checked as well now (leaving only CPU, FPU, and Cache left checked) and it's been 2 hours with no faults yet.My guess is that it has something to do with my RAM, but I have no idea as to why or how. And if it is my RAM causing issues, is it a fatal error or will I be ok and I should just move on? Is there anything I can do to fix this? I am including some screen shots of my system specs and numbers. On the picture with the red circle around my RAM speed, just ignore that, my memory is actually running at 3000 (I am using G. Skill Ripjaws V DDR4-3000 RAM) as you can see in the CPU-Z pics. On the screenshot of my BIOS settings, on the line for my DRAM Frequency, that has also been changed to Auto instead of [DDR4-3000 30x10...]Let me know if I need to provide any more info. I do not really know how to use AIDA64 so this is new to me. UPDATE: Latest test failed after 11 1/2 hours, not really sure what I should do. Is this something I should worry about? Or can I just leave my system as is? Additional screenshots included of AIDA64 test failure output.

Firstly This isn't my phone it is a friends phone that he sent me to try and fix. So I received his phone and from first glance over the phone is in well condition couple of scratches and indents on the case but no harm to the screen. I missing screw at the back from when he sent it to a repair place for a different problem. The Phone is responsive as it will charge to 100% and can hold it for a good while on IDLE. But the issue is his systems/ Rom is utterly Hijacked to put it simply. When you CAN boot the phone to the lock screen once unlocked the phone will constantly bombard you with com.process has stopped working for EVERYTHING. This isn't an issue with the Gapps but everything. the Android systems are returning with this the apps Everything. Solution: I want to be able to boot a custom or Stock/ older ROM onto the phone but can't flash the device. When i access the settings app once i complete the spam build number to become a developer it updates whats there and crashes the settings app permanently. So My issue that i hope someone can help with is that i need to flash a new ROM on it while wiping the phone. Problem is the phone won't show up on the computer as a connected device and i can't activate device debugging my normal means. If someone knows a way to activate debugging without using the normal settings app that would be greatly appreciated.

So the host in this video seems to be overclocking a RAM and it sort of destroys it. However, I cannot determine if this is true because I've never seen something like this before. Can someone address this please?

Hi, I recently reinstalled Windows onto my laptop, and it worked fine for a while. But soon the system will not boot up further than this screen, and selecting my SSD boot drive shown in the picture won't do anything. What do I do? I have reinstalled several times and this keeps happening. I've included a video as well. Sometimes it just shuts off, and sometimes it goes back to that screen. video-1462432785.mp4

Build Specs of computer that this happened to: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/HH4KCJ Ok, so, what happened to me the other day is that I came home from an event. I went back to my computer to do some editing of some footage that I had captured at said event. I noticed that the computer was off, which I thought was unusual, since I almost never turn it off. I pressed the power button, and I heard multiple loud popping noises from within the case and saw a few sparks. I then smelled the magical electronic smoke. (Darn). I unplugged the PSU, and took the computer outside and disassimbled the computer. On the motherboard, I found multiple blown MOSFETs, as well as multiple blown SS caps. As this is the only computer of this calipar that I own, I am unable to test if anything else in the system was fried. I then filed a RMA for my motherboard with ASUS. Before I get the repaired/replaced board, should I contact Seasonic and RMA my PSU? I have no way of testing any of this myself, and I would feel like an idiot if it blew up again once I got the motherboard repaired/replaced. AND, should I concider rewiring my power outlet to a compleatly dedicated circuit for just my computer, as I currently have a printer and monitor plugged in to the same circuit?

so i think i have a big problem i was using my pc today and then all of a sudden it froze. so i reset it and it brought me to the blue windows 10 logo and and the spinning logo sign and it just spun and spun. then i decided to restart and it did the same (it wasn't even showing the bios) eventually i got logged on and i discovered that one of my drives wasn't detected. I have 1 250GB Samsung 850 evo (OS), a 1Tb Seagate barracuda and a 1Tb WD blk (Games). the Seagate drive i use for mass storage e.g downloads, documents pictures etc etc. this was the one not detected. when i click on documents or downloads it says: Location not available. D:\Downloads is unavailable. if the location is on this PC, make sure that the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted, then try again.... If the location can't be found, it might have been moved or deleted. so far the drive has been detected in the BIOS and not in disk management and i listened to the drive and it is still spinning. Is this Drive dead or can it be fixed if it is dead can i recover anything from it Thanks

Hello. I decided to turn my Rasberry Pi 3 Model B into a streaming device. After installing moonlight and pairing it to my computer. When I run the command I get the error in the attached photo on the bottom of this post. I can't seem to find the issue. When i run the command, steam big picture launches and my computer says its connected to nvidia stream. Then I go back to the rasberry pi. The screen seems to have a transparent window open. I can see the rasberry pi's moving desktop and cpu status, but I cant click anywhere. Any help? I have searched around and found out that it's probably a driver failure of some sort, and the short of it is - I'm stuck at the loginscreen and nothing I do effects the pc (other than power-off/reset/psu-switch). Now this is how it happened: I was playing csgo with some friends, hopped out of the game in lobby. Started Orcs must die 2, to check something ingame(first time opening it on the computer). Messed around in chrome while both still running. I was done so I right clicked and closed OMD2 and continued watching Youtube and whatnot. Then here's when it gets wierd... I noticed OMD2 was still running on my taskbar and I figured it didn't close properly so I left clicked it to go into the game(fullscreen) to close it from inside. The screen went black as usual when entering a fullscreen game, and then I heard the computer just powering down. No warning, nothing. Then I powered it back on and when the loginscreen came up no input devise would work. I've tryed: Power off-on Switching the usb input Other keyboards and mice Putting the SSD in another pc (as that would do anything) Now woile I can't do anything at login, I can enter the bios. so I tryed(from the windows trubbleshooting): Safemode System recovery Both the formating options But I get the same resoult - no change, or "a failure to format the drive..." If it helps here are the specs I can remember: MSI 970A-G43 motherboard AMD 8-core 3,5ghz-ish CPU (watercooled with NZXT 2x140mm) 12GB Corsair RAM (2x4-corsair, 2x2-random green ones) MSI Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 CHIEFTEC 550 PSU? Samsung SSD <---Where I think the wrong is Wester Digital green 2.0TB HDD Windows 10 (upgraded from 7 I've put both of the harddrives in another pc and I can get all my files as if they were just another drive. I have only the OS and some minor stuff on the SSD and I'm starting to think the only way is to put it in another pc and format the whole thing and install a fresh OS, but I don't really wanna spend on a new OS if not completly nesessary. I love the LLT channel on YT and I'm usually watching the WAN show and never miss an upload from you guys. I would love you eaven more is you could find out what's wrong with my system and how to fix it. I'll gladly provide the info you need to the best of my ability. Thanks.
