Basically building a $20 build 1 x Dell Optiplex 755 SFF (E5650) ($3) 1 x GT 640 ($15) basically, i got the optiplex, put in my spare geforce 210 (because my gt 640 was not ready), installed windows 10 with geforce 210 drivers, updated the BIOS and performed some tests. everything was fine. however, when i swapped out my video card for my gt 640, it took a long time for my tv to detect it and when it did, it said 'display mode not available'. what should i do? if you are interested, the monitor was a Philips 55' FHD TV. I do have one more monitor but it is ancient and only accepts VGA and DVI. I have a VGA cable but no DVI cable and the gt 640 does not have VGA as output so yeah. Thanks. :-)

Hi, I have a Dell Precision T3600 with a Xeon E5-1603 (V1), and I tried to upgrade to the E5-1620 V2 which has the same socket but it is the next generation up, so it did not work. I upgraded my bios to the latest (Dell A15) but it still does not work. I read the following: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/20009621 I checked T3600 and 3610 - the only difference is BIOS firmware, even BIOS chips are the same. T3600 has Intel ME firmware 7th version - that is why Xeon v2 are not recognized by the 3600 system, they need later 8th version of ME. Upgrade of ME formware is a difficult procedure - You need to fit the size and other attributes of old ME region. The simpliest way would be to read both BIOS chips from 3610 motherboard and clean data region in ME but I don't have any T3610 systems. Another way is to analyze BIOS file for T3610 and drag out the firmware for T3600. If anybody has T3610 - please reply which suggests that it is possible to upgrade the ME, but I have no idea how to do this or where to get the necessary update data. Could somebody help please? Also, if this does not work, I'm considering buying a T3610 motherboard for $99 but I'm not sure if it would fit in the chassis of the T3600 - they seem identical but I can't be sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Back when dial up was still a thing, buying PC parts means driving to a store, and your latest source of tech news is a monthly subscription magazine, Dell had made a laptop where everyone thought they went bananas, and by today's standards it probably still is. The laptop Dell made was the XPS M2010, it was customizable so everyone had different specs. It came with a Intel mobile Core Duo processor around 2Ghz or so, up to 4GB of DDR2 memory, ATi Radeon (Made in Canada!!!) X1800 dedicated graphics with 256MB of vram. 100 to 120GB HDD or up to 2 of them in in RAID 0, 20" screen at 1680x1050, 8 speakers with 1 subwoofer, dual multi-format card reader, and a pop up slot loading DVD drive. Keyboard is full size with numeric keypad and a built in track pad. It's also bluetooth, where you can detach it from the laptop itself and use it on your lap while sitting on the couch. Dell has also bundled it with a bluetooth wireless mouse and a Media Center Remote, where the remote itself also acts as a gyroscopic mouse, so you can move the remote to control the cursor that's on the screen. It came with Windows XP Media Center Edition and later on Windows Vista. On the I/O you get gigabit lan, dial up modem, dual DVI, and USB. Based model starts out at $3,500. Fast forward to today, we have the Acer Predator 21x, just as crazy as Dell did back then but into a whole new level with their 21 inch curve display running at 2560x1080 120Hz, dual GTX 1080 in SLI, a Core i7 7820HK which is unlocked, mechanical keyboard with RGB lighting, 4 speakers + 2 subwoofers, SD card reader, and Tobii eye tracking. Cost of this laptop $9,000. Both of them while years apart shared the same level of craziness that no others had thought of doing, and because of that, 10 or 20 years down the road, both will still make people stop in their tracks and look at them. Hello everyone, My father bought a computer with a Nvidia Quadro K1200 graphic card. The problem is that he already had a Dell UP2715K monitor (a 5k 10-bit colour depth monitor), and the K1200 does not support a 5K resolution (as I saw here), and I had some problems with it (here I did ask for help in the Dell forum). He likes to edit photos, so he would use the computer only to edit photos and, eventually, surf the web. Now I'm searching for an alternative graphic card with 10-bit colour depth and 5k resolution support. I saw that the AMD RX 480 supports 5K resolution and even 10-bit colour depth, but I'm not sure about it and I don't know if it would be a valid alternative. (If possible he would not like to spend too much) Excuse me if I was unclear or there are mistakes in the post since English is not my primary language.

Hi! DELL put the 1050 in their new XPS 15 instead of the 1050 TI. Benchmark at notebookcheck is already out showing that the notebook 1050 is slower than a 965m and only 20% better than the 960m. The 1050 ti is 50-60% faster than the 960m as early leaks have showed. If these benchmarks are correct then why the hell did they choose the non TI variant when they share the same TDP. I´ve been waiting on a slim businesses looking laptop with good battery life and graphical power to play most games at 1080p 60fps+ and thought the DELL XPS 15 9560 would be the one.... http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mainstream-Pascal-GeForce-GTX-1050-Ti-and-GTX-1050-in-Review.189822.0.html

Sauce: http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/category/laptops/alienware-laptops?~ck=bt AMD's statement at the time: After announcing that they're having an RX470 in their Alienware 15 and 17 notebooks some months ago (http://www.eteknix.com/alienware-squeezes-rx-470-into-a-laptop/) the notebooks have gone on sale as of today. First up is the Alienware 15. Starting at $1349, it gets you an Intel Core i5-7300HQ quad-core CPU, 8GBs of single-stick single channel RAM and a 1TB 7200 RPM hard drive. Moving up to the Alienware 17 now. $1449 gives you an Intel Core i7-7700HQ, 8GB of single-stick single-channel RAM and a 1TB 7200 RPM hard drive. The RX470 in both of these is the full desktop 2048 stream processor one with 8GB of GDDR5 memory, and if AMD is to be believed with their "full desktop RX470" quote it runs at the same 926/1266 MHz as the desktop cards. Both of these laptops come with a 68 Wh battery, upgradable to a 99 Wh one for $50. One thing they both don't have though is a FreeSync-enabled display. That's a bummer, seeing how the GeForce 10-series editions of the Alienware 15 and 17 do have a GSync display. Interesting devices. The RX470 is no slouch at 1080p, so for the prices given they're actually pretty great notebooks.

Dell showed off their new Inspiron 7000 series laptops at CES 2017 and are now up for sale. These laptops look very promising with a starting price of $799 and was curious if any of you would also be interested in a review? http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/productdetails/inspiron-15-7567-laptop

Hi i am looking for an ultrabook with the best value for money at the price tag of at around $1000 USD. I want it to look nice, be light and thin, 13in or less size/form factor, have at least 8 hours of battery life, have a glossy display, have at least 8GB of RAM, it can be either Windows or Mac based, and have decent specs and good build quality. I'm open to all suggestions as of now since I would be needing a laptop soon for college this upcoming winter quarter.

Okay gang. I am going to hopefully be quick and sweet with this post. I am currently in the process of learning servers in general. Now this may be a crazy thing. I am sure most will disagree, but I decided to learn ubuntu server version 16.10. I will post the current setup at the bottom. This will be a TEST DUMMY, meaning that I am learning on this and seeing if I can even get to the point where I can look at the server from any computer I choose, whether it's out of the office, at some deserted island. (That somehow has internet, etc.) I was hoping you guys on the awesome forum could help me condense my searches on what I need to know etc. I am sure I need to learn SSH a bit and overall how to get my linux server to be seen at the moment. That's as far as I got. So hosting without having to give people my actual IP address, so using host name is good. From what I have been gathering there is a host command in the terminal that I can use so I am most likely going to start from there. Feel free to post pictures, brag about your server and how super totally awesome it is, anything like that. And of course feel free to learn with me. I will update on what I've done, maybe post pictures. Make this a huge post. What I have installed. ubuntu server 16.10 on a dell poweredge t310. 16 gigs of RAM(I think it could be 8) Xeon processor(4 core?) Set up LVM to make it like RAID config 0 with striping (if I remember correctly, if anyone knows how to look at configurations on the hardware, etc let me know.) Overall most definitely utter garbage haha. But regardless. Feel free to help, aid, post your personal server setup, etc. Love you folks! Hope all is well. I will be in touch.

Alright, so another question. I have a Dell OptiPlex 780 Minitower (the same one in my ZOTAC GeForce GTX 750 Ti thread from earlier) that I'm curious to know. I plan on getting this for it: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00K0F0L5E/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me= Will Corsair XMS3 work? I've heard that the Dell OptiPlex 780 MT can accept up to 16GB of RAM in either DDR3-1066 or DDR3-1333. Can anyone confirm this specific RAM to work in a 780 Minitower? And before anyone asks, I have the BIOS updated to A14, which I heard an earlier revision of the BIOS supports DDR3-1333.

Hi so I am looking for an ultrabook for this upcoming winter quarter in college and I was eyeing on the new razer blade stealth. I am not set on the blade stealth and I am still open to other suggestions for ultrabooks. I would prefer that my budget for an ultrabook be at around $1000 and the max im willing to spend is $1300. So I saw the blade stealth and was wondering would the baseline model of the stealth with 8GB ram and an i7 7500u be enough for my needs and for many years to come? I know that laptops today have very little upgradeable parts so I want to make sure my purchase is a good one. I would need an ultrabook with very good battery life and it would be used to take notes during class, surf the web, potentially program in java or C, type up school papers and essays, and be used for general media consumption like watching youtube videos, listening to music, and watching movies. I would NOT use it for gaming though since I already have a gaming laptop at my house already that I use as a "desktop replacement". My question is that would the baseline model of the razer blade stealth be enough for my needs or should I just get a Macbook 2016 or a Dell XPS 13 instead? The reason why I ask about the blade stealth is because I really like the unibody chassis of it, and it looks like a matte black macbook running windows.

I have an old 'beater' laptop that I like to mess around on and upgrade and I'm now looking at a new processor. I use the laptop for everything from video streaming and a tiny bit of editing to light gaming. I'm looking at upgrading the processor from the current dual core 2.53 ghz to either a quad core 2.0 ghz CPU or a 3.03 ghz dual core CPU. What would be better for an all around (and better for gaming) processor?

Hi, Just bought a new server from this guy in my home town. It has 12 Dell PDU Units. I was thinking about using some of these PDU's for future projects. The issue, I have is each of these units has a different plug. That, I can't use. I was wondering, If anyone had any idea. How to use this in a home surrounding with regular US outlets? I was thinking about using dual power cord. That would plug into the 2 outlets. Regulating the power consumption, Note: only bought one of these servers.

Hi, I have bought a new Dell Inspiron 7559 with SK Hynix 8 GB DDR3L ram and I have another G. Skills ripjaws 4 GB DDR3L RAM with me. The problem is the both RAM work at different CAS Latency but on similar clock speed & voltage. Will it work as intended and cause no issue and is it a good option to mix both of them or should I just buy a new RAM?

So when I was in college, I used to own a Dell Inspiron 1525 for school work. Despite my woes with Windows Vista back then, it did everything from school works and even did a light video editing. That's why when Windows 7 was announced, I saved money to buy the legit Windows 7 Home Premium DVD. For the most part it worked until in 2011, the fan is spinning so loud and during that time I knew nothing about repairing computers but because I'm quite stubborn, I decided to remove the back cover and maybe clean the fan or something. So yeah, I seemed to have butchered it. I removed the heat sink from the processor and I don't have a thermal paste. The battery is no longer functioning but it still turning on as long as it's plugged into the power brick. Right now, it turns on but after the log in screen has shown, it turns itself off. So is there any hope of fixing it? I want to try and run Ubuntu on it.

So, just as a quick intro, My name is Nick. I'm a young (17) CompTIA A+ Certified Technician, while I have experience in building and repairing PCs, I cannot get a stable job at my age. While i'm very interested in PC gaming and maybe one day starting a tech YouTube channel, I don't have a lot of money. I won't let money stop me though! I've done a few months of research into the "Used Xeon Gaming PC" market, and i've decided that this is likely my best option at a gaming PC until I can get a good job and some work experience under my belt. So, this brings us to the build: I'm gonna be putting a 5000 series Xeon into a used LGA 1366 workstation PC, throw a Mid-Range GPU inside, cross my fingers and hope for the best! Lol maybe not that last part... I've done a decent amount of research into these 32nm Xeons and they're not half bad, especially for the price! multi-core performance is quite great in these, but they lack in single core performance. They're something like an older FX-8000 CPU minus the unlocked multiplier. They do a great job in modern titles, they get a little slow in older open world titles with APIs that don't utilize all the cores properly, but at the end of the day its a $300~ USD gaming PC. If you're unfamiliar with the Xeon X5677, its a 4 core 8 thread CPU, its about as good as an i7-2600 in muilticore processes. I could pay a few extra dollars for a 6 core at .4ghz lower clock speed, but im not sure if it will perform much better in games. Heres a very similar processor with an RX 480 playing overwatch at 1440p, then 4k (yeah, I know, its not exactly the most CPU intensive game, but this is all i got lol) 4k starts at 14:27. If any of you have any tips or past experience with builds like these I would really appreciate the help thanks! -Nick

Hi, I recently bought a Dell XPS 15 9550 with 32GB DDR4 memory, i7 6700HQ, and GTX 960. No matter what the task, light or heavy, my screen freezes for a second every so often. If I'm simply scrolling down a page of google it will freeze for a second and then pick up farther down the page. Youtube videos, games, Video Editing, and 3D Modeling (autodesk Maya) all have the same issue. I wasn't expecting an issue like this with such a nice system. Other than this problem, it is working perfectly. Any help is greatly appreciated Thanks, Zach

Hey, I am interested in getting a gpu dock for my xps, but so far I have only seen the Razer Core (which is really expensive), one from alienware (just for alienware laptops) and one from Akitio at 218$ Links: Is the Akitio any good? And are there any other gpu docks that work with the new xps 15? Thanks! Edit: Also, if I have a case and a gpu, can't I use that instead?

I have a dell e6410, but I "accidentally" cracked the entire lcd panel. I want to install freenas on it to get some use out of it, but when I hook up the vga cable to the moniter, it wont display the image, I even successfully booted to windows and it still wont display. I have used two monitors! I am going to check the vga cable today, but I wanted to know if there was anything I can do on the computer side.

Ok so i have this older Dell t7400 workstation i bought years ago and i decided to pull it out of sleep and get it running again! I managed to get everything working other than ram. My system for some reason likes to allocate 2gb to processes on the OS the rest likes to be reserved into the hardware. No matter how much ram i put in or take out it only allowes those two gigs to come through that i can use. Specs 4x1GB ECC (White slots) 2x2GB ECC (black slots) i shoved in a GTX 770, had it lying around two ES430 xenon @2.66GHz windows 7 pro OS RW199 precision motherboard

Today my Dell Pentium, which runs on Windows 10, screen completely froze but I could still move the mouse but nothing would work. Then I shut down my computer and rebooted it and then a black screen popped up and said "Not bootable devices -- strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility. Press F5 to run onboard diagnostics." Have any ideas how I can fix this issue? Thanks.
