Hey guys I am overclocking my GPU, XFX Radeon HD 7870 Double D, and I was wondering if the performance of your motherboard really mattered. And if anyone has any other tips for me they would be much appreciated. Thanks guys.

Hey guys. So I ran into a little problem this morning. I got my dad a VTX3D HD7870 for Christmas. When the card arrived I tested it in my rig and it worked flawlessly. This morning, my dad went ahead and installed the card in his PC (Sabertooth FX mobo, G-Skill Ripjaws 16gb, AMD Phenom ii X3, 550w fortron psu, 120GB Kingston Hyper-X SSD + HDD and the old card was a Radeon HD 5670). The computer started booting but froze at the Starting Windows screen for almost a minute and then continued on as usual. I remember having a similar problem once so I installed driver fusion, removed old AMD driver and reinstalled the latest driver from their website. This didn't actually help so I'm here to see if people have more ideas on what I could do. I also took out the CMOS battery which resulted in the same problem. I though that it could possible be the PSU as it is almost 4 - 5 years old (Fortron 550w 80+). I replaced the card with the old 5670 but the same problem occurs. Can someone help please? Thanks

Hi guys. I posted a topic earlier about whether or not to upgrade my gpu at this current time. And i was given a link to a 7870, which obviously intrigued me, I went to the link and it's selling for £130, compared to the normal £204, I know that that's extremely cheap for the card but would the upgrade to the 7870 be worth it? Thats my main question, would it be a noticeable difference to my 560ti? Thanks!

A few days ago I got my 7850 back in the mail from RMA, and to my regret it's once again pretty effed up to say the least. I'm not going to send it back and get it repaired because sapphire (the manufacturer) is not responding to my emails the last few days. Thing is my first one was probably fine, and was having a software acceleration issue in firefox that made me think it was artifacting on screen. Now I've got this 145 dollar paper weight. OH WELL, thank god for christmas monies . I've included a "repair job" and their solder joints on the card they're pretty terabad. Thinking about getting a 200 dollar ish video card, and i'm leaning towards Nvidia cards because I have not had any issues with their drivers, the cards themselves, and the manufacturers. Here are a couple of cards i'm considering Asus Gtx 760 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121775 Asus Gtx 660 http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=76367&vpn=GTX660-DC2O-2GD5&manufacture=ASUS&promoid=1051 Finally the EVGA gtx 660 ftw edition http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=91929&vpn=02G-P4-3063-KR&manufacture=eVGA&promoid=1051 Tell me your thoughts on these cards, and should I got all out buying the gtx 760? Please make a valid arguement, and don't start a flame war between AMD/Nvidia. I game at 1080p, and play all kinds of games Also would my Corsair Builder series 500M be reliable enough to power that gtx 760?

Okay so I went and bought myself an amd hd 7870 for my new computer which was pretty cheap because of its lower end gpu. here are my specs as of now: amd fx-6350 six core processor gigabyte 78lmt-usb3 motherboard Nvidia gt 610 16gb ram 750w branded power supply Windows 7 home premium and I am having problems as it seems my pcu only has one 6 pin connector spare and the gpu requires what looks like an 8pin and 6pin. so can any of you kind more clued up on hardware people help me out here and nudge me in the right direction? can provide pictures if needed for now this is how my gpu looks other than its the 800 series not the 900

[ALWAYS CHECK THE TABLE OF CONTENT] This is propably one of the first modded Bitfenix Ghost builds on the internet. I have used very very little funds to mod this so... This far i have done: - A window - Taken out the 5,25" bays - Made a metall plate - Changed pwr and hdd leds to blue ones - Made a aluminium Frostbite logo with leds. Credits to: Razbit for helping me. - Made another metal plate to restrict airflow from wrong places -Sleeved my PCI-e cables. Credits to: Razbit for helping me again - Made a mid-plate -Laced 6pin cables -Bought a sleeved 24pin cable -Made a BIGGER WINDOW - Painted small intake meshes - Painted the frostbite logo bolts - Painted one fan - Redone the mid-plate It is now oc'ed to 4,5ghz with only 1,15v on vCore Some of you noticing that Bitfenix ghost doesn't have a window, so why the heck would someone put lights in there. The answer is that I have made a window to it, which i will propably make bigger at some point. Table of content in order: - Moddedddddd - Frostbite -Another metal piece -Pictures -Sleeving -Mid-plate -Cable lacing -a Question for you - Sleeved 24pin - New window! - Intake mesh painted - Small paint - Painted one fan - Noctua CPU COOLER - New ssd - Some painting and aluminum Specs: Asus Z87-A Intel Core i5 4670K @ 4,5Ghz 1,15v Noctua NH-D14 Gigabyte Radeon HD7870 OC @ 1160mhz Kingston HyperX 8gb 1600mhz CL9 Samsung 840 PRO 128Gb SSD for Windows Kingston SV300 120gb for Linux WD Caviar Black 1Tb For games and programs WD Caviar Green 2Tb For videos, photos, music, and backups Chieftec Semi-modular 650w PSU Bitfenix Ghost case A newer picture Before modding except window

Hi, My XFX HD7870 Ghz edition wont connect to tree displays. i have an Asus DVI monitor, some kind of hdmi small tv or monitor and my tv that is a sony with hdmi and i am trying to connect all of them to my pc. i already search for this problem online and people told me to connect the DVI, the HDMI, and to use a MiniDisplayport to HDMI adapter on the displayport thing on my card. i bought the mini displayport adapter and now that i connected it, it doesn't work. now they told me to use an active display por to hdmi adapter and bla bla bla, but it cost like $26 bucks on amazon and i will like to know what you think about it first. is there any way to connect this using cables that i already have? i tried with 2 DVI and one hdmi and like all the combinations and it says they to use 3 displays i have to use a mini-displayport connection.

I searched and didn't find anything terribly related: Overclocking cards in crossfire: Good idea or no? I had a single 7870 and got another one for my birthday and I was getting artifacts and general instability (vga driver crashing and recovering bla bla bla). Aside from the obvious cooling issues I could experience, is there anything special I need to keep in mind?

I'm planing on build a budget pc for my brother. Right now I'm not too sure of what to get r9 270x or 7870? R9 270x - ~$199.99 and it comes with BF4 7870 - ~$199.99 --> ~$149.99 with $50 off or mail and rebate From what I know the r9 270x and 7870 are about the same performance. I'm currently leaning toward R9 270x because it is about the same price or a little better with BF4 included and it has mantle supported (which I really hoping would be something amazing) but several people said the card is not really that worth it. -Thank you for your time.

So I mainly wanna know the differences and maybe get a reliable benchmark because I cant find one between the 7870 ghz edition and the 7950. Both of them stock on anandtech have about a 2-5 fps difference. So i wanna know what the ghz edition looks like as far as performance.

I've been thinking for the last little while of getting my brother's PC a little upgrade. As Christmas is slowly coming around the corning, I am thinking of getting him a new graphics card for his system. Current System Specs: - A6-3670K APU with mild overclock (@ 3.2GHz; stock 2.7GHz) socket FM1 - Corsair A50 CPU cooler (doesn't even get warm with the OC...should be able to push 3.6GHz to maybe close to 3.8GHz / 4.0GHz with it) - Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 1GB GDDR5 Graphics Card http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&gid=3&sgid=1037&pid=1270&psn=&lid=1&leg=0 - 8GB (4GB X 2) Corsair Vengeance (Blue) DDR3-1600MHz C9 memory (adjusted to run at 7-9-8-21-1T timings? 1.5V) - Gigabyte GA-A75-D3H FM1 Motherboard - Antec New TruePower 550W Semi-modular PSU - Cooler Master HAF 912 Case (140mm rear exhaust, 200mm blue LED top exhaust, 200mm blue LED front intake, 140mm side intake) - Kingston V300+ 120GB SATA3 SSD - WD Caviar Black 1TB HDD (WD1002FAEX) - Windows 7 Ultimate x64 So...for a nice Christmas present, I want to get him a new graphics card, either a HD 7870 2GB or a HD 7950 3GB. I'm eyeing the Dual-X / Direct CUII / MSi cooling solution versions. (He's going to be pretty sour after seeing me getting a HD 7970..then potentially another some time soon) I realize the A6-3670K will be a bit of a bottleneck - even with a 3.6GHz / 3.8GHz overclock - but I'm not exactly sure how much it will be. For the games he play (CS:GO, BF3, DoTA, Far Cry3, etc) either cards should be plenty for a single 1080p monitor. (I may give him my current 1090T [or FX-8350] and Crosshair V formula set-up later on...if I decide to give my system a major over-haul) The Question: A) Get the a HD 7950 or, B ) Save a bit of money and get a HD 7870. Price difference of ~$190 (before tax, ~$230 after tax and such) for a 7870...and ~$230-$250 (before tax, ~$270 after) (Yes, shiz is still expensive here in Canada; not common to find 7950 for ~$200) Well....now that I think of it, the R9-270X could be an option as well. Thank you! Cheers, Victor

So lately my GPU has been under-performing in games. For example used to get 45 FPS on high-ultra now get 20 medium. And then I left afterburner open while playing and I saw that the GPU usage was only at 35% max with an average of 25%ish What is going on?? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance

So starting in August my year old Msi 7870 started crashing and finally died, from then till now i've gone through three other 7870s (all rma). My questions is why would this be happening, it has to be something with my computer. After looking around I found this: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/360031-31-computer-kills-graphics-cards, he has a very similar problem. They say it is his PSU, could that be my problem? My PSU: Corsair TX 750 80+ bronze Btw my computer runs fine without a gpu, and when I say crashing I mean the screen locks up and is either black or colored bars, and the audio repeats Using speedFan my +12V is just below 10.5(no gpu)

So I found an 270X for 120 euros(used) Should I get it or should I just save more money to buy something better? Keep in mind that I l already own a 7870 meaning that I can CF this and have very good performance.

I bought an Msi Radeon 7870 a little over a year ago (August 2012), and up to Jan/2012 it ran fine but after that it went down hill. Every once in a while I would have my screen freeze up in the middle of a game, at first I thought it was heating issues but after testing it I found out the card never past 65C-70C max. Finally this summer the card gave out, at this point I did some research and found out there is a known problem with 7870s that Radeon was trying to fix and supposedly did, I also found out that I had a three year warranty on my card so I RMAed it.Since then I have gotten two cards back, the second died within a week or two while the third died just now( I got it yesterday in the mail). I was just wondering was anyone else having the same problem with Msi or 7870s in general.

I am having a slight problem when I use crossfire with my 7870's. I am using one reference 7870 Ghz edition with another Powercolor AX7870. I have set the core clocks and memory speed to match. I am using MSI Afterburner to achieve this (running 14.2 drivers from amd) because the only options I could get to work in CCC was the dam "enable crossfire x" button. I am also running 14.2 drivers because the newer drivers let crossfire x be enabled, but the second gpu doesn't even turn on. I have the FX6350 @4.4Ghz @1.456xxxx on HyperEVO212 (push pull) and am aware that this MIGHT be causing the cards to not run at full speed. The exact problem I have is where both gpu's are running near 100% usage when loading/changing settings in game (bf4) but once in game (playing) BOTH gpu's somehow decide they dont want to run at near 100% and sometimes drop <20%. I have uploaded 2 screenshots of my problem. While "in the menus" and "loading screens" both gpu's and cpu are around 80-90% usage, but from the in game screenshot it's a totally different story. Regarding my cpu overclock, I have disabled all cool&quiet features, ULPS, etc. I have no idea how/why this is happening and would like some help! With crossfire disabled, i still get around 90% cpu usage and almost always 100% gpu usage when playing. I get BETTER frame rates with one card.... I play at 1920 by 1080 ultra preset and get 45-60fps with one 7870 and 30-120fps with crossfire. One weird thing that does occur, if I spawn in the middle of an online 64 player game, go into the menus, wait for gpu's/cpu to go to 80-90% and quickly go back to the game, my fps stays at 70-90fps until the usage drops back down to around 50% gpu. Can I force the gpu's to run maxed out? Even if I have a cpu bottleneck? I don't mean run at 100% speed, they do that already, but make them "process" all they can to help overcome the cpu? For some reason in the screenshots, gpu2 clock/mem speeds were not captures properly, but i can assure you, while in game they are the same at 1100/1400. In games like borderlands 2 the cpu AND gpu's both hover around 70-80% even in multiplayer. Edit: I ran both gpu's at 1000core/1200mem and in game they get about the same usage. I have a corsair cx600m with 46A on the 12v rail and 600watts(as per recommendation for 7870xfire)

So I've had my 7870 HAWK for almost 2 years now (got it Oct 2012). It has pretty much become the hallmark of my rig ever since and I love it. I ran it overclocked for awhile, did some Bitcoin mining, did some Litecoin mining, and some heavy gaming with it. But as of late, I turn on my mining software and it crashes, i log into WoW and it crashes (the least demanding of my games). The only thing i can do without it crashing is browse the interwebz like a PLEB!@!!1 And when I say crash it's not bluescreening. The entire screen gets artifacted and my rig just freezes. The only thing i can do is a Hard shut down (shh shh go to sleep its okay). Ive pretty much unloaded my arsenal of registry cleanups, driver updates (& rollbacks), reseating the card into another PCI-e, and im about to strip the heatsink and put it in the oven (does this even work?). Any suggestions? I'm a broke college student so getting this to work would really save my ass.

Hi all I've just had this problem for the second time now. I was happily working away with just Chrome, Outlook and Spotify open on duel monitors. Then my left monitor went off and then came up with pixelated lines (red, blue and white I think, I'll get a picture next time). So I turned the monitor off and on and it was still the same, suggesting its the GPU. Then I went into Control Panel>Display and selected a single monitor set-up on my good monitor. This then lasted a few seconds before doing the same and I couldn't do anything I had to reset the computer and its been ok for 15 mins now. But this is then second time in a couple of weeks now so I'm starting to get concerned. Any help or ideas would be much appreciated... Thanks MonkyBoy

Hello, I have a 7950 and a 7870 Tahiti XT both XFX running in crossfire. I'm on Windows 8.1 and have the 14.4 drivers installed. My PC: FX 8320 4.5GHZ 1.4250V Be Quiet Shadow Rock 2 Asrock 970 Extreme 3 R2.0 6GB DDR3 1333MHZ Ram 650W XFX PRO PSU 1.5TB HDD I had to OC my CPU because before I had 60FPS in BF3. What FPS should I see in battlefield 3? Should I upgrade anything? Is my OC too little to support the two cards? Any tips on better performance? PS: I saw YouTube videos of 2 7870s in CF and they had better performance than me. Right now I have 80-150fps and its really ODD. Any tips on fixing that? Thanks
