The Pirate Bay is the most notorious and popular torrent website on the Internet, and with that being said, it's safe to say that they use some high tech stuff to keep their servers running, right? Let's backtrack for a second. A couple years ago, The Pirate Bay moved its infrastructure into the cloud, and ran on 4 virtual machines (VMs). Fast forward to 2014 and the notorious torrent website is up to 21 VMs.
So what are each of the VMs used for?
- 8 web
- 6 search
- 2 database
- 1 lvs
- 1 stats
- 1 for proxy site on .80,
- 1 torrents
- 1 control
So what's the funny part about this? All of TPB's virtual machines are hosted on commercial grade cloud hosting providers, but the providers have no clue that The Pirate Bay is one of their customers. I can't help but laugh at this fact.
Anyways, as for the hardware of the VMs, in total they use 182GB of RAM, 94 CPU cores (specific CPUs are unspecified), and 620GB of storage, although not all of that is used. I know what you're thinking: "The Pirate Bay only has 620GB for storage? That can't be right!" Oh, but it is! It makes sense, if you think about it. TPB's website isn't fancy in any way, so that saves space, and then the actual torrent files are only a kilobyte or two or three in size.
With this news, it's safe to say that The Pirate Bay truly isn't going anywhere, at least not anytime soon. Oh, TPB got taken down on domain 'X'? Then let's just hot swap it to domain 'Y'. Good luck ISPs, you're going to need it.

Once at primary school I spent a week designing a game. And I visited my dad and wanted to show it to him.
I plugged the flash drive into his computer and his antivirus asked him whether he wanted to scan the drive. He thought it was a virus and ripped it out. My USB got corrupted...

My English teacher thought that looking at a website with pictures of shoes (wtf is she doing that at school?) had to do with a BSOD linked to the failure of the Intel iGPU.

In a recent movie (not sure which one) a guy says he pulled the hard drive from the computer and he's standing there holding an optical disc drive.
Hard drives have been around as long as VCR's. Shouldn't people understand wtf a hard drive is and what it does by now?!

Admiaczking reacted to Opcode in AMD and Synopsys to co-design 14nm/16nm , 10nm APU, GPU products
Could you imagine AMD jumping from 28nm right down to 16/14nm. They certainly would catch up to Intel in manufacturing node, the only problem is their new architecture really needs to deliver.
