Instead of replacing a perfectly good motherboard, replace the ageing CPU.
    Get a Ryzen 7 5700X if you game on 1440p or 4K.
If you're on 1080p, upgrade the monitor.

todays shiny tech is tomorrows bargain is my philosophy.
I often get the itch to buuild new as I enjoy the process but my wallet screams BEHAVE.
Anyways your system is good to rock a while longer and if you happen to enjoy gaming and spot a 5800X3D then that would possibly be your best upgrade.
    quick google snippet below

As a result, the 5800X3D was up to 106% faster than the 3600, seen when comparing 1% low data at 1080p with the 6950 XT. With the Radeon 6600 XT, the 5800X3D still enabled up to 73% greater performance and even 42% stronger performance at 1440p. If your board works fine and it doesn’t add anything you “need”, I can’t see a way to justify it. If you just have the upgrade bug, plenty of other things that you could buy that would be easier to justify imo. End of the day, it’s your choice though.

I don't think any of those features are worth buying a new motherboard. I'd use this one until you plan on moving to a different platform or this one breaks. However, If you really want it, buy it. All I'm saying is the upgrade value for the money is probably a poor deal.

Hello everyone i am new to the forum. I have been in the technology profession for about 13 years now. I've been a loose follower of Linus tech tips over years occasionally viewing one of the videos if i needed to know something till recently I actually built my own PC after waiting to do so for years now.

Hi I'm a Newbie here!  I'm a busy fellow who spends most of his life building Hot Rod Cars and my Trucks.  Although I don't spend a lot of time gaming these days I'll always be into gaming, PC construction, etc.  I also follow basketball, boxing, MMA.  I also like Beer,  Bourbon Lagers, Coffee & Chocolate Stouts, Imperial Stouts, Bourbon Stouts, Vanilla Porters, etc.  I also enjoy trees. ?

Naturally, I've gotten here because Linus is the man.  Quite the visionary with his endless and often very entertaining content.  I imagine a community built on this would be a groovy place with groovy people.

I only intend to post when I have something useful to add to the discussion, or if I need real help/suggestions.  My Display name is my favorite gaming name/persona to use. (Jedi Academy) ?

I'm running a 6 year old basic AMD FX build, on a 42" tv, with plans to upgrade everything perhaps in a few years, once I move my biz to another state in the country.  It might happen sooner, who knows.  Just started using Linux and I'm enjoying it for sure, gonna use Linux for my internet surfing, and cling to Win7U for now for things that don't work easily in Linux.  The video quality somehow looks better in Linux.  In fact this weekend I'm planning to watch the Big Heavyweight fight between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury on Linux, streaming the PPV feed.  Fantastic first event to view on Linux.

    Peace!  ?

I’d love to see a video where Alex and Linus build a PC from scratch. Any parts that can be machined (case, water block, IO shield, and maybe even case fans) should be made instead of purchased. Obviously the MB, RAM, PSU, CPU, et cetra. would be purchased. Get that nice new workshop some more use and air time!

I love Portal! The first one was the best, but the second one was great too! Also I feel your pain regarding your laptop. I’ve a HP Beats edition. DDR3, integrates graphics, and on its last leg.

First post. Been watching LTT for a while.

I don't consider myself a gamer. I'm more of a bullet trap in shooters which is just frustrating. I like exploration games and puzzles. Think Skyrim, Fallout, and Portal 1/2. I'm strictly console at this point because my current laptop (HP Spectre x360 core i7) suits my needs for a PC. It's far from a gaming rig but it's extremely portable and fast enough for my purposes.

Anyway, it's good to be here. Maybe I'll get back into building eventually which I did a lot of MANY years ago (AMD Athlon and AGP video slots). I retired my last homebuilt box and moved to an ultrabook when video got to the point that AGP couldn't handle it (1080p). Right now I'm spending my time looking for work and fiddling with arduinos.

    Cheers all!

We have a C-beam XL at work, but I would stay away. It's been a year of fiddling and tinkering and it's just now reliable enough to the point where I trust it to make a half accurate part. CNC routers are usually over $1000 if you want anything resembling a cutting area, and that's still sacrificing machine rigidity which I'm learning more and more is so important. Our machine can do aluminum if you take fast and shallow bites out of material, but for anything serious, find a machine shop or a guy with a mill.

edit: I didn't recommend a machine oops, an Inventables Xcarve, Shapeoko, or shop bot is the way to go.

I did a custom version of one of the older CNCRouterparts.com machines and for one off aluminum projects it will get the job done with a small router spindle. It's the same company LTT got their CNC/plasma machine from and are great guys to deal with. All in you can do a 2'x2' machine for around $2k cutting some corners and it's a lot beefier than the to be assembled hobby machines, but you do need a decent amount of tools to build one. Figure around $4-5k to do it proper.

If you have the room and think you might use the extra cutting space, build a 2'x4' with a 4' gantry. Will cost a bit more now, but in the future it is easy and relatively cheap to just extend it out to a 4'x8' machine.

Fusion 360 for the CAD side is free, it has CAM as well but I don't like it so I use Vectric. The 2D (actually 2.5D) program is only a few hundred dollars, and very easy to use. For the machine controller there are some free Linux options that are a royal PITA, so just pay the $200 for Mach 4.

Lastly, it wasn't worth the time messing with random issues I had with parallel ports and cards... Getting an Ethernet Smoothstepper is well worth it.

Well, aluminum and plastics are pretty easy-peasy, just take your time. a 24x24"ish machine like a Shapeoko, X-Carve, or CNC Shark would all fit the bill here.

If you're more interested in the product than the process, just get a local router shop to cut the parts for you. It will save you the time of programming/setup/learning as well as the cost of the router. It's the cheapest option in the long run.

Okay so I have a form all drawn up and in place, and it automatically adds entries to the DB spreadsheet. The form itself is fairly self explanatory, however I would happy to answer any questions that occur. If i missed something that you feel should be added to the form, (hopefully nothing blatantly obvious  ) let me know! I can edit the form and DB at anytime. Also i will be checking the DB spreadsheet to validate entries. If an entry comes through that doesn't match up to the photo, or if the entry comes without a photo it will be flagged yellow. This just means not verified, and it WILL stay in the DB. However if you want this flag removed pm me with your missing photo, etc and I will update your entry and remove the flag :). If you have multiple machines, or CPUs  to swap out with, please add them! Lets make this database huge! Lastly, yes I realize that my entry is not OC'd at all but that was just me testing my form. I'm only on stock atm, so when i actually have the time to tinker with my PC and have money for a cooler i may add another entry :P

     Without further adieu here are your two links;

Update 10/16: With a new Cinebench Release I would like to ask all new entries to be measured in that version of release! All old entries are fine, but can be updated if you wish to have a up to date entry :). To update your cinebench score, run the new build (which will be linked in the form) and take a screen cap of it and pm it to me!
    Thanks in advance!
    Update:
Just in case any of you didn't realize, my new method of letting you know if an entry has been approved or not yet is if the Intel, or AMD spaces have been matched up to the color code. If you notice that some entries haven't, don't worry about it. I'm only human and I will make sure I will update your entries the next chance I can :)

All new Haswell entries will require a main tab of cpu-z and a RAM tab of cpu-z as well. Users that do not include both will be flagged orange in their image link section. Feel free to PM me and I will update your submission if you need it revised!

Update 2: Cinebench optional tab created! I would love to see users either update their existing entries by PMing me their scores, and I would love to see all new entries include one! This way we can see how CPUs at given frequencies compete! Link to the Cinebench page is included in the submission form for your convinience :)

    Example Screenshot:

Something like this is great! Makes my life very easy :P I'm looking for:
    1. CPU Load (shown through something like aida, or just the windows performance tab on the task manager)
    2. CPU-Z Open on the main tab (and a CPU-Z RAM tab for Haswell entries)
    3. Some sort of temperature monitoring suite
    4. A stress test software (aida, prime, intel tuning utility, etc.) Something that records the total time stressed(built in for aida or intel tuning utility), or a way to show me how long the processor was in fact stressed for.

I’d like to see a short video that explains sizing needs of AIO’s.  With the 3 basic sizes for example, how do I determine if I need a 120, 240, or 360 size cooler???  People keep telling me that I need a AIO, but air cooling sure seems to be a safer build.  How often do these things fail?
