  1. Nah, if the relation OS - GPU stays without change, it should be fine, but please do it if you encounter any errors. I actually have AMD and Nvidia drivers on my PC right now and it's fine, but other times I had to use DDU and perform a clean install even though I didn't do anything I can think of that'd cause problems.
  2. https://www.intel.pl/content/www/pl/pl/support/articles/000024132/server-products.html it isn't an obvious one, you have to check if your enclosure supports it
  3. Maybe that wasn't clear, but the idea is about copying whole game data onto SLC cache when you run it, while normally keeping it on QLC NAND. 240GBs was me pondering about next gen game sizes and how big of a cache you'd need. Basically how to get awesome nvme performance comatible with Direct Storage with as small $/TB as possible. The first part is me giving an example with movies where SSD can even perform worse than an HDD, but that's just an example.
  4. The above post refers to games. System - Decent SSD. Games - Big cheap SSD? Movies - HDD. Samsung SSD 870 QVO 2 TB after writing 77GB of data(a single UHD disk) slows down to 80MB/s, whereas my 10TB Seagate HDD Averages 200MB/s over the whole platter, one of the first things I did with it was copy what I had on another 4TB HDD and it's funny to think that would take twice as much time on QLC SSD. Keeping many games on SSDs with Samsung 970 Pro level of performance would destroy wallets, but QLC probably won't be able to suffice, however, as we know reads are not that bad and aforementioned QVO had ~70 GB of SLC cache, so one can wonder if a mix of QLC with very big cache could mean copying files from QLC NAND onto SLC every time you run the game, say it has 2.5GB/s reads and the game is 100GB, that'd mean 40 seconds to copy everything and then you're running from SLC like a pro, it actually doesn't seem that hard to implement, the only problem would be game going over the cache size, but afaik Intel's 665p has 240GBs of cache on 2TB version and I assumed such config would be useful for even bigger drives.
  5. Because the current i5-3350p is showing severe signs of being too slow, but my experience says when I need a new CPU, AM5 is going to be dead anyway. That 3350p is borrowed, the last CPU I bought is C2D e8400 and that was a bit over 12 years ago. X570 being stable is not a bad thing though, should be less problems with Zen 3.
  6. The same things exists in phones and... it depends. Some just count cores, or cores and frequencies, but others only care about Snapdragon 8xx. You just need a mindset of 'AMD is faster'(if it will be) and most people will follow it.
  7. I still think it would be interesting to prove they can, but maybe a halo card is not as important as some people claim. I also saw multiple mentions that AMD's architectures weren't going to scale to bigger die sizes, that was also said to change in RDNA - finally being able to make big dies which actually improve performance. Can't wait for it to come out.
  8. It most likely means that 3080s get tested more often nowadays, 2080ti has 186k tests and 3080 a bit over 3k and I believe 90% of tests happen right after purchase anyway. regarding 3080Ti, imo 3090 being 10-15% faster than 3080 makes the Ti very unlikely, or pointless. I'd sooner expect Ampere+ with some fixes or maybe on TSMC 7nm if they need improvements, those could be supers or whatever.
  9. Scalper or used, what's the difference? AFAIK if you have the receipt, that's enough, heck, as long as the product is younger then the warranty period, many manufactures don't care about purchase proof at all, as it should be. Unless the scalper sends you their proof of purchase, even if it has a name, they don't have the right to deny me sending my cousin's card for warranty.
  10. Well shit. I got one of those updates on Android 10, hopefully with the changes they make the coverage of things they patch will continue to grow up to a safe level.
  11. Isn't this mostly achieved in new Androids (10 and 11) having multiple system modules updatable without flashing new ROMs? https://thehackernews.com/2020/09/android-11-security-privacy.html I mean #3 from that list, is it not enough? I wouldn't trust manufacturers to provide updates on time anyway.
  12. I secretly hope aliens come and fix the shit that's going on purely because they're nice. Neither aliens or no aliens are scary, I believe there is life, some of it much smarter than us, but at the same time I don't think we're going to meet any sort of alien. I'm expecting civilisations that start, prosper, but eventually their planet becomes inhabitable which they can't stop or fix and at some point they die out because of it.
  13. Supposedly some sort of cache, if that's in the core, then a bit of that size is occupied by memory. Moore's Law is Not Dead channel has some info that his sources are quite certain of, bit of it being that AMD made some magic with the cache to require much lower memory throughput. Please beware, if you're like me, this video might make you really hopeful for RDNA2, which might really hurt 3 months from now.
  14. It was even one of their marketing points, that it's time to upgrade from Pascal. 3080 has 1/3 bigger die than 1080Ti and over 2x the die of 1080, they also use the new and shiny GDDR6X which may or may not be a problem, whatever the real number is, producing 3080s requires at least double the resources 1080s needed, which is not great. Listening to Moore's Law is Not Dead podcasts recently I am(again...) hopeful that AMD will mix things up giving Nvidia headaches not about how to produce enough cards, but how to stay competitive and still make money, though I guess getting supply in the latter half of December is basically 2021 anyway.
  15. Works for me on 10 Basically all subscriptions work like that. i guess it's nice that sometimes the client comes out of it with profits.
  16. It is quite normal for new clients to get better offers than existing ones, but usually you get a contract for x amount of months and breaking it earlier comes with additional cost. Changing the customer doesn't though, say, someone was renting a place and then new people come in, they start a new contract and the previous one ends like that. If the rep is able to mix your contracts in the system so that the old one just ends and new one starts, that seems entirely possible. I've had experience like sales rep promising 20mbit ADSL, then 8, we were in contact with them a month before our previous contract ended and even with that we finally got 6mbit with a month without connection at all in between, because what sales people say is not necessary real. I am recording my calls, just like they do, if they promise you you won't pay additional fee over the phone and you have the recording, that'd be a guarantee, an app will probably require root but you could as well just talk on speaker and record with some microphone.
  17. Working 24/7 can at times be better, I think it was justified as powering up causing voltage spikes which don't happen during continuos usage, IIRC HDDs with power saving features are usually much more prone to fail than those not powering down. You should stay away from extremes - extreme OC, extreme temps, extreme amount of power cycles/day etc. During normal usage the PC will most likely live way past losing relevance in terms of performance.
  18. There is, you get better results compressing better source, but the resulting bitrate is indeed the same. There are apps to download from youtube, one could check the mediainfo of working and not working files and look for differences.
  19. This is so goddamn true, there are acceptable city bikes under $500 but I wouldn't dare try a downhill one for that price. My new favourite hot thing is gravel bikes, almost as fast as road bikes while still being capable offroad, personally I have a road bike and as much as it's faster than the cross model before it, it annoys me how bad it handles sand etc. I had to buy as fast and cheap as possible so I got $200 lightly used Triban 500 which after ~2000 km needed 2/3 its price in replacement parts, from my experience that is fairly normal for cheap models. I still think it was a good thing I got it because now I know what I'll need in the next one I purchase.
  20. So all the guys riding Tour de France have shitty bikes? I've had no-name bikes with shitty brakes, it was terrible, but then I got semi decent rim brakes which had good control and if need be, I could bend back and still risk standing on the front wheel while emergency braking. I know water can be a problem and downhill is definitely not a place for rim brakes, but your cross bike that you get to work on can use them no problem. Also, when you're looking for the cheapest things that will work in bikes disc brakes often land in the 'maybe later' category.
  21. For that reason it is often omitted, though I'm not sure a company using AM4 would care about that. Seeing how it clears up the APU gen difference it makes sense though.
  22. This is 100% me. From knowing(a very limited amount of) business owners, they didn't know anything about making a website. You often get offers that cost thousands for the simplest page that still doesn't work properly, or the owner doesn't communicate with people making their website and it ends up lacking info even when they pay good amount of money. There are also marketing people who believe you have to be on Facebook and/or that FB is enough, no need for a dedicated webpage. Counting all that, I fell like I'm in a niche and seeing this post has made me happy I'm not crazy to feel this way.
  23. I fail to see any value in Facebook, sure, many restaurants and other small companies operate purely on FB, that's why I avoid them, that site is simply making my head hurt and I hate every second there. Messenger is inferior to normal xmpp, their restaurant pages are useless, the frontpage is so bad it's not even funny, what I'm saying is, from my personal POV it wouldn't be a loss at all and hopefully move people to other, better pages. Also, the law is the law, however absurd it'd be, and FB being used by people of all ages would mean a simple DNS change or VPN is beyond most of its users, so it's probably quite easy to reach critical mass of people unable to use it for the change to start. I firmly believe Facebook will die out sooner or later, it's already become a boomer site, it is doomed even if they sort out the stuff with EU.
  24. I'd try the second hdmi port and a shorter cable to rule them out. Also worth noting that hdmi 2.0 won't do 4k 10bit 4:4:4 @60Hz, and your screen is 10 bit, so might be something to do with that. Displayport would be the superior choice.
  25. You know, as bad as Xbox naming is, the shops with their goddamn search algorithms aren't free of blame too, so many times I've been offered stuff which didn't fit my search terms, but looked similar... People are bound to make mistakes, especially when in a hurry.
