district_11 got a reaction from Chris935 in Pet peeves when it comes to people building PCs
my biggest pet peeve is when people put together potential builds for people at their maximum budget without including an OS

district_11 got a reaction from Guest in Definitely time for a dust out!
temps were fine.
considering there's no GPU to generate that much heat, the two 140's on the front are kinda redundant. The H80 was taking care of the CPU, idling around 35

If someone want's to go that route, then fair enough, but at least leave them room in their budget IMO for the OS.
Personally I don't see the point in spending a serious amount of money on a rig only to skimp on the OS and having to mess around with torrents, cracks and any potential problems that may arise.
I've built 4 rigs for myself and bought the OS for each one.

district_11 reacted to Captain_WD in Removing drives from Western Digital MyBook Live/MyCloud
Hey, thanks for the kind words It really means a lot! Did the drives function properly back in the case? Do make sure you have backups of the data on the drives just to be on the safe side in case something goes wrong (a case or a drive fails, etc.). Captain_WD. -
district_11 got a reaction from TheGeeker in My NAS build is coming along...
I know, but at least I get a fully functioning PC too. not bad IMO for not much more than a few hundred a dedicated enclosure would cost

As @SnafuPossum explained, as long as the drive were not encrypted (which they shouldn't be by the NAS) you should be able to plug them in the new build and operate with them with no issues. In case they are encrypted, a full low level format should wipe everything from them (all data will be deleted) and you should be able to use them again. Captain_WD. -

As long as those other enclosures dont encrypt them, you should be able to plug them in and keep all the data since you are keeping them out of the raid.

Hey district_11, Removing the drives from the enclosures would void the warranty of the WD My Cloud and the WD My Book Live. If you are planning on doing this, I would strongly recommend backing up your data beforehand. I would first configure the RAID10 and transfer all the data from the two NASs there and then attempt what you are planning. Captain_WD.
