If you need the extra ram go with that. I would just buy a 32gb kit and have everything work if I where you!

Yup it should work just fine, if one module has slower speed than the other. The default speed will be the slower module. The performance difference will be little to none, maybe in a benchmark but real world performance should see nothing.

8700k doesn't perform 30% better than 2700, so i say the 2700 is better value. I agree with the CUDA thought.
Also the new 3000 series just might close the single core performance gap. So still worth waiting.

You should probably do an i7 8700K build instead, as that will perform fairly much better than a Ryzen 7 2700X on what you do for a living while costing about the same for the most part.

CUDA heavy, so Geforce is better..... 1060 6gb then it is. Try get an 8700k build if there's spare money. Adobe stuff also prefers single core performance more than multicore (though of course just to few fast cores isnt a good idea)

no idea. I mean, we arent even certain that AMD will announce Ryzen 3rd gen in CES, it's possible that they just introduce the Zen 2 architecture and then leave the show.

If you wait you could get more cores for the same price or the same amount of cores for less. I'd say wait if you can.

Upgrade now because what you have is absolute garbage. Even if 3rd gen turns out to be impressive, what you can get into the budget is most likely going to be slower anyway because they are new. That said I'd lower the CPU choice to the Ryzen 7 2700 non-X (or even 1st gen Ryzen 7, whichever is cheapest) since that CPU cost less, more than enough to compensate for the worse cooler.

also watch out for whether your app of choice uses CUDA or OpenCL. Geforces works with both but Radeons only work with the latter.

Wait until CES in January. The CPU's actual specs will likely be confirmed during that time. There you can decide if waiting is worth it or not.

If you can hold out about 2 more months then wait, if you need a machine now build now, the r7 2700x is still a very good cpu.
