In my insatiable desire to play with all things AI... I heard about this new CPU with NPU (Neural Processing Units basically accelerators for AI based tasks) and decided to tinker with it... Good laptop for my main actual use... (using Excel and looking at PDF files while streaming my groups Tabletop games... aka D&D so our remote friends can play over discord. Secondary use would be tinkering with AI with tertiary use playing a game every blue moon. Statistics are... alright... haven't been able to find programs to actually load the NPU's as of yet. The built in graphics are ok. So anyone else tinkering with one of these processors yet? LTT any reviews coming? Curious IT minds want to know.

Personal opinion here, but Linus is trading a lot on his name and good will built up over the years. And it's pretty clear he's developed something of a deserved ego, yet it's in a few moments simple slipped into being too far. If that is a calculated move on his part is up for debate. Part of me is sure some of it is. I think they keep the LTT logo as it is a known thing. Just drop the acronym and name the company LTT. A leader that has worked VERY hard to get the company where it is, is a great thing. But he's becoming a bit tone def if these moves are not calculated. Just my humble opinion here.

Clean no icon's on my personal desktop. Work desktop... less so. IE icons there from whenever... I can't even say.

Why not go with an new Ryzen 9 3900 and a 2080ti?

I know it's an ancient thread. Has anyone heard if they are going to do a new... errr... wider? Ruler for the new RTX pinouts? I have a couple of the ones that cover the 1080's and so forth.

I've been trying to find solid information on the newest of Intel's CPU's on if they actually contain hardware fixes for these various vulnerabilities. So far the best I have found is the most current silicone has fixes for two of the so far discovered Variants of the Specter/Meltdown vulnerabilities. I suppose Intel just presumes we will all forget about this. In honesty they have maybe 1 more year of just ordering intel because that's what we have before we investigate alternatives like AMD's EPYC Cpu's for our core infrastructure. Anyone hear any more promising news out of Intel?

Actually Kyle over at the other site already did a return, first card was brand X of member, new card was Samsung. Samsung died in 8 hours before any real torture testing could be done. Other card (3rd 2080ti in this case) is still good. His personal experience is 66% failure rate. I find that interesting. Nvidia's own posting about it stated a .01% failure rate of cards that snuck through. For Kyle to get two back to back... not to mention several other members there claiming the same.. (lets say 50% of them are true to be fair.) That's still a CRAZY high number of failures to be generated. But I appreciate your outlook I just think it is worse than Nvidia is claiming. Hopefully I'm wrong... but I'll be skipping this gen anyway.

I know this may seem anecdotal, and it is in large part. But over on a different forum and site the site owner has had two fail back to back while one remains good. Many are reporting they are seeing multiple failures within days/weeks of getting RMA's, and many are reporting RMA's as well. (of course forums are the outliers.) But retail outlets are being told to keep quiet about the return rates. One shared experience is that a Microcenter store had stacks of returned 20xx series cards for being faulty behind a counter. Guest asked about them and learned from a manager they are seeing failure/swap/refund rates easily over 20% for the 20XX series of cards. I find that interesting, while it is anecdotal I udnerstand that you would need to have some other form of proof to act. Question though.... have your team been actively using the 20xx series cards in gaming and in a always on system? Any failures or is all well? Just curious.

Or perhaps the question really should be. CAN LTT do a piece on the crazy failure rates of the 208 TI cards? I suspect that NDA precludes any real investigation on LTT's part... and really between them and the OCP site that is oh so Hard I would half expect to see some good points brought up. You clearly have the staff and expertise if not on hand on call. So Linus and crew.... will there be a story or can you only publish what Nvidia allows in this matter? (Or is it not something you feel is core to LTT's goals.)

I've seen it as I am a member of the [H]ardocp community. Good review a bit shallow on depth for my tastes but posting a world first you need to cut the chaff. In my personal opinion if you have a 10x0 generation card and are not suffering in performance I would wait. The cards even from NVIDIA for the 21x0 or whatever is next series will be a die shrink AND generation change, AND see some RTX support in the wild. That will be the value proposition for an upgrade. And really we all know if this generation has weak sales all around then the next one will be more aggressively priced AND be a better performer.

Do you think I would be better served in going with an additional 1070 and running SLI? Thoughts?

Want to feel good about yourself and impress dad to get you a car when you become of age? Tell him you want to go to your local warehouse store be it sams or Costco or even Aldi and stock up on canned food goods. (or dog food stuff) Then go to your local food pantry (Or pound in need) and donate it all. This gives you multiple benefits. 1. bring one of those girls that's interested in you and make a trip out of it as part of your birthday celebration or post birthday celebration. 2. Dad/Parents will probably love that you are doing this and on their own include something from the list for you as a reward for doing this with your birthday present 'money'. 3. It will help you feel good and see how the rest of the world lives. To go the extra mile you could call ahead and arrange to have whomever is going volunteer to work at the food pantry or dog shelter a bit and donate an hour or two before dinner/events later that evening. I think the value to you will be much greater than just another computer part. You have an ok box for doing your gaming today. The bigger win overall with friends/family/self/girl will be far more impact. I'm betting you go with computer parts though. Prove me wrong.

Get her a taser. It will let her know you're interested in her safety and that you think she is attractive and a potential target. Include a note about how you want her to be safe from the creeps of the world and if she won't let you protect her at least you would be comfortable knowing she has this to assist in protecting herself.

Considering how many years I got out of my 2600k I had before... What I do is overbuild a system and then upgrade the video card as I go along and or storage if needed. For instance I started on my 2600k with 16gb of ram, a 320gb Platter HDD, and a GTX 480 I think. In it's life I upgraded the drive to a 500gb SSD and the video card final version was a GTX 1070. I've since at the beginning of last year rebuildt to a 7700k with 32 gb of ram and a 1tb NVME keeping the GTX 1070, and upgrading the monitor to a 1440p. I'm happy with that though the itch to replace the video card is present.

I live within a 45 minute drive from one in a outlet mall. It's a neat thing and they have a few other little event places like that in this mall. A skate park, an aquarium, and a lego world. (I think it's like 20 bucks a head to go into lego world?). But I think a partnership with a company like Toys R Us with perhaps a reduced price for the Lego World experience would be awesome. Of course then Lego would have to deal with customers seeing all of the other toys around as well. I don't know if that would be a bad thing for them

As an adult Toys R Us is a bit lacking because I know they have to mark up to maintain the physical presence and stock in stores all around. As a grand parent Toys R US RULES. You ever bring a 4 year old grand kid you don't mind spoiling into a place like Toys R Us and just see their eyes light up? It's like walking into a Microcenter after depositing your bonus check. I think Toys R us has a place in our commerce and in our collective consumer consciousnesses. They just need to keep the number of stores down and make them more special. Work with Lego, and Mattell and others to make them like mini toy malls. I think that would be awesome.

Ok I don't get this. They have been posting tech/politicial news where there is crossover. And people have been discussing it as such. It seems that people are getting banned for this over there. Now I'm wondering if the Ban's are related to arguing for the 'wrong' side of if they actually are universal in their application of the rules. I will say it is their forum and there is no guarantee of free speech. I understand that and I'm not trying to say they can't have a leaning and support X over Y. But it seems if you debate someones statement in a thread they are quick to drop the ban on people. I got two warnings for discussing political motivations for tech rulings and a ban, and I'm honestly confused as to what actually earned the ban. Anyone else have a similar experience?
