  1. No no no no no no no. You just don't understand, my poor, sweet, ignorant, stupid children. Performance is but one factor in what makes this device a wonder to behold. The design! Think of the design! It's all about the design!. /sarcasm
  2. Make something idiot proof, and someone will invent a better idiot.
  3. I'm often told that I'm so smart and I keep looking at these people like they're from space. People have told me multiple times that I have "imposter syndrome," but I just don't see myself as anything special. If the majority of humanity is dumber than me then we really are doomed!
  4. The idea being that you'd immerse it in distilled water under the assumption that it would get rid of at least some of any dissolved mineral residue left behind by the ordinary water used to hose them down. Like @Sauron said, you would then let the card completely dry before you connected it to any power source (I guess "people would know to let the card dry before connecting it" isn't something that can be taken as read).
  5. Google: You'll watch what we want you to watch and you'll fucking like it. I actually never subscribe, never view youtube while logged in, use a VPN, have my browser set to clear cookies and site data every time I close it, and close the browser ever time I change websites. So I suppose I get as close to a "vanilla" youtube experience as possible. I've actually found the side bar recos not bad. I'd be curious to know how they choose which ads to push on users like me.
  6. Could you potentially remedy the problem by immersing it in distilled water to dissolve any mineral deposits? Not saying it's a great solution, but if you were going to take the risk.... would that help lower the risk of blowing a card?
  7. I used to live with friends who had a google smart home thermostat. I could not, for the life of me, figure that damn thing out. You'd think "make house 22 degrees" would be basic functionality, but nnnooooo, you had to set a temperature range, time of day shit. I will never have a smart thermostat. I just fear that, one day, there won't be any choice. Maybe I should start hoarding dumb thermostats for the coming smart-apocalypse? ^ This. A thousand times. A million times. This!
  8. At that price point, you'd probably be better off using a phone (unless your phone camera is garbage). Smartphones have largely killed off the low-end camera market. Also, the problem with the 2000D is that it's on the EF mount, which is on it's way out. This is good in that existing lenses will get cheaper (you can probably find some good deals on good bodies and glass) but it means limited growth and no new bodies or lenses.
  9. I just assume that everyone (including myself) is stupid.
  10. Took advantage of what seems to be the last vestige of summer before our 8 months of darkness sets in. 101km today in 4 hours 22 minutes. I had my first bear encounter! I've been cycling these here parts for over 20 years, cycled across Canada, cycled through the Yukon and the Northwest Territories, cycled through Banff and Jasper plenty of times, and yet today of all days was the first time I'd ever seen a bear while cycling. It was a small black bear about the size of an English sheepdog. I was enjoying a slight downhill and cruising around 30kmph when I looked to the right and saw the bear looking back at me. I looked behind me and saw it bound across the pathway. Keep in mind, this is within city limits, literally 5km away from my apartment building. Total this year: 2,519km
  11. It's funny you should mention radio. The morning show on the station I listen to has a very similar problem. The guy has a very low pitched voice, like Luke, which makes it hard to hear him over the ambient noise in the car whereas the girl has a much higher pitched voice, so I have no problem hearing her.

    Thanks dude
  13. I wasn't terribly sure where to post this, but I watch the WAN Show every week, but not live due to various reason. I'm in an environment where I can't wear headphones and there's some ambient noise. Linus' mic is usually alright because he has a higher pitched voice, so I can usually hear him (though still not 100%). However, because Luke has a much lower voice and I think he speaks at a lower volume, I often have trouble hearing Luke. I know they monitor the audio, but there's a difference between how it sounds in headphones vs how it sounds on my TV speakers. I don't want to bitch, but it is very frustrating because I either have Linus' volume fine but can't hear Luke, or crank it up to hear Luke and Linus is too loud. Keep in mind, there's not a lot of ambient noise, but even the slightest just makes it incredibly difficult to hear Luke.

Why follow me? I'm nobody. I'm small po-ta-toes
  16. I would have invested in a massive machete. Not to mention, I can't imagine how much poison ivy/sumac/oak was back there. *Edit: Oh, blackberries. Horribly invasive on the west coast.
  17. What's Linus' little sister's favourite car brand? Nii-san. ;)

  18. You mean "government surveillance drones?" TBH, I'm of the same mindset as Linus on this one. I don't really care. To me, the only truly disrespectful response would be him laughing about it.
  19. TBH, it's all about working your way up to it. I usually start off with 50-80km per-ride in the spring. You also need to know what your pace is. I generally strive for an average speed of around 20kmph. It's basically knowing how much power you can output at a sustained rate over a certain period of time.
  20. Is it just me, or was there some...erm... tension between her and Alex during this? Keep in mind that I am a socially inept weirdo who doesn't understand how human interaction works.
  21. The M mount is also another big "fuck you" to consumers that's a bit of a bug bearer or mine.
