i have my reasons not to buy Apple, this just makes my point even more valid. 

You try finding a good deal on a broken one on eBay and use it for parts, then you could resell the parts you don't need.

10 inch rack stuff is generally non standard, so you will generally need to buy things smaller than 10 inches wide, then figure out a way to mount them.

The form is partially dictated by the microphone-array; it's not just a single microphone there, but a whole bunch of them, so the device can determine the direction the audio is coming from and do some processing to filter out background-noise and transients and minimize echo for clarity.

Just googling around, looks like no third party software controllers have been made to change the backlight timer. 

Is hyperthreading enabled?
