  1. And if you read my point, the rates of women in STEM degrees are increasing. That means women in STEM careers are increasing. However, you still need to wait to see the impact of greater encouragement into STEM careers. Assume in 2008 this was put into affect (I don't know when it actually was done, the article doesn't say to my reading). You're only just now getting women out of 3 and 4 year courses, most of whom wouldn't have seen the benefit of this work. You're still waiting a good 9 years, or 2017, for girls who were in year 7 (13 years old in the UK) to graduate. Women are getting STEM degrees. That statistic is based on percentage of ALL students passing, and what percentage of those were female. This number does need to be increased, for sure, and it is increasing. But my argument about experienced scientists being mostly male still stands, due to little interest culturally in STEM until recently.
  2. The article you linked says this: The implication being that women are moving into STEM, but more focus must be made increase participation. Further on, the article states The smartest girls in school not being popular is a cultural issue and also affects males, so don't pretend it's a sex issue. Anecdotal evidence from students is not rock hard proof, and you're ignoring that fact that 83% of girls and 86% of boys disagreed/didn't know, far greater statistically. If 30 or 40% of girls thought this it'd be much more compelling. There is no causal link between this figure and women not moving into STEM jobs. Sure, women should be more incouraged to move into it, and percentages of graduates are increasing, but you're looking at 2008, and in those 6 years thousands of girls will only have just have moved up into the establishments which now support more women in STEM jobs. You forget that educations in the west take 13 years (in the UK) before moving to degree level. I agree wholeheartedly, more needs to be to change cultural perceptions. But again, you're going to need to wait at least several years to see the affects of these new ways of encouraging women into STEM jobs. Nothing in the article says women aren't moving into STEM jobs, it only states that rates are increasing but more needs to be done. This doesn't contradict my statement that experienced scientists are still male due to new structures in place to encourage women only appearing in the last decade, and it only makes sense that STEM industries would look for those with the most experience, unless doing things such as internships which are increasingly female
  3. I've had mine ready to step up since September 25th. However, people on the forum say that they are starting to ship cards
  4. In 99% of cases, strong pains in the left arm and chest are the first indications of a heart attack or angina. My Dad suffers from angina after having a heart attack, and still gets pains in his left arm. However, he has medication for it.
  5. The issue with ACX cooler only affects GTX 970s using the ACX 1.0 cooler.980s only come with ACX2.0, so they're unaffected. The ACX 2.0 was announced way before this issue came about, but they are discontinuing the 1.0 line of coolers
  6. Banned for being 4 days older than me
  7. The phoneblocks concept was bought by google and turned into Project Ara.
  8. You said energy, not usable energy. 90 TJ will be released, but most will be instantly converted to mass, for sure.
  9. EDIT: Actually, maybe I miss read it. Are you for or against those pictures?
  10. E=mc^2. 3x10^8 x 3x10^8 = 9x10^16, 9x10^16 x 0.001 = 9x10^13, or 90 TerraJoules of energy
  11. I believe Samsung have now written close to 8 petabytes onto a 128GB 840 Evo, orders of magnitude mire than most will write in a systems lifetime, with only minor performance loss
  12. I got off topic. The arguement I was making was that the reason it seems today like the field is extremely sexist is because there was no interest. Suddenly there is massive interest but less jobs, those that exist are filled by those with experience, which statistically is more likely ro be male due to more men historically reading STEM subjects.Women are moving into STEM jobs. However, top scientists are 50, 60, 70 years old with decades of experience and you want them to be replaced by someone with only a few years? Jobs in STEM industries are limited and underfunded. You have to wait for people to die off or retire to move up, or come up with something so brilliant you move straight up. You don't have to in the job to do that
  13. The "evidence" you provided was simply a google of women in STEM jobs. That is not evidence for or against you, it's completely pointless. There's no reason given in a google link
  14. Also, this point. Having only been in co-ed schools (in the UK), and knowing of 10 others locally, at no point has ANY female student been actively discouraged from pursuing a career in STEM fields. My teachers have begged female students to stay because of their apptitude. But they chose of their own volition to pursue other fields. Those in physics A-Level really want to do it. The reason you see a lot of males in physics is because it's typically expected of them to do it. Most drop it after a year, and never pursue to Uni. Most girls who do physics or technology subjects continue them to university or beyond. Mosr boys taking the same subjects dont
  15. Editted my post to include Lovelace before reading this.Of course women can love technology. And between the years of the late 1800s to seemingly 1990-2000, those who did worked hard and found employement and did great works. It was never an issue until everyone bum rushed it seeing that it was the only thing still making money. Also, a PERSON invented computer science for the good of all. Just because she was female doesn't mean that anyone with those genitals gets in.
  16. The reason STEM is male dominated is because 20-30 years of the media and the general public callings scientists and engineers nerds, losers and weirdos is hurtful and create resentment.Admiral Grace Cooper worked damn hard and became a role model in the field of computing. Marie Curie did her part. Ada Lovelace saw the genious behind Babbages difference engine and devoted her life to it. All these examples are in time periods where women being better than men was FAR more severly punished than it is today The reason it's difficult for any woman to get in is because they suddenly want an easy in after years of abuse. The Jews didn't exactly welcome former SS soldiers into the synogogue because they changed their mind
  17. Read my editted post. Bayonetta is supposed to be sexy. It's her character. It's no different to having a super buff dude. A female character can be a sex symbol and still be badass. Go ahead and tell JLaw that FemShep doesn't matter. Even if the game devs didn't plan it, she is still a badass female character, fact. The fans of the game saw that. THE VERY GAMERS THEMSELVES petitioned to have her featured more prominantly, not the devs or the media, the gamers.
  18. http://weknowmemes.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/i-wish-there-were-more-strong-female-characters-in-video-games.jpgCan't turn it into an image as I'm on my phone, but follow the link. That's most gamergate supporter's answer when hearing that there needs to be more female characters. The reason why we can say shut the fuck up is because we have evidence of there being female characters in games (That comic is a couple of years old now), some of them being the best characters of all time ala Ellie in Last of Us and Jade in Beyond Good and Evil, and more and more of them are being made. A girl can also be in peril, the damsel in distress in the game if you will, and still be an incredible character. Elizabeth from Bioshock Infinite springs to mind. They don't have to be the forerunner.
  19. Plumbers can be sexistTeachers can be sexist Charity Workers can be sexist Nuclear Physists can be sexist Polo players can be sexist Hair dressers can be sexist Golf players can be sexist Street sweepers can be sexist Electricians can be sexist Wrestlers can be sexist Bikers can be sexist Shop assistants can be sexist Body builders can be sexist Ice cream van drivers can be sexist Polititions can be sexist Bus drivers can be sexist Lolly-Pop Men/Women can be sexist Cops can be sexist The homeless can be sexist You take ANY demographic and people in it could be sexist. Assuming someone is just because they play games is idiotic I support gamergate because it all started with a person using the fact she was female to bully CHARITIES into shutting down so she could steal their ideas and claim all the credit, and slept with game reviewers to improve reviews on her games, thereby invalidating all journalistic integrity. This spiralled into showing the corruption in the games journalism industry. The core of gamergate has never changed, and is still about journalistic integrity in the gaming industry. I also think it speaks volumes that gamergate draws up mass amounts of evidence showing shadowy and wrong business deals and unethical acts and the best opponents can do is resort to personal insults and calling us all sexist I am not sexist. I've fought for womens rights. But generalising everyone who plays games as sexist is equivilent to calling all muslims terrorists. Sorry for using your post to launch this point if you weren't super strong feeling about this topic, but the first line really irked me
  20. I noticed a pretty significant increase in boot up times. There was a noticeable lag before the task bar and icons appeared on my system, but now it's instant. 10/10, would update again
  21. It'll probably run really sweet when it comes out in my locale. Seeing as it's the Borderlands 2 engine with some performance improvements (what else are they gonna do), it'll run real nice on a 780.
  22. Pretty much any large "gaming" website. Reddit and 4chan are dead, so I'd say the best place to discuss it is either 8chan (thank based hotwheels) or Funnyjunk.EDIT: If you're looking for youtubers who aren't biased, TotalBiscuit and JonTron are both on the side of gamergate. JonTron doesn't weigh in as much as TotalBiscuit, but he's still supportive. I've stopped watching Egoraptor, as he out and out called most of his viewers idiots for being gamers when he hosts a primarily gaming focused channel.
  23. Just like real RAM, the more of it you have, the more of it the system will use.Rather than loading say half the textures into memory, the system can load ALL the textures to memory, improving transfer speeds on textures to the buffer. The Black is a 780 Ti with more memory. They're both full GK110 cores. That is a cold hard scientific fact. The only difference is memory and a 780 Ti w/ 6GB will be exactly the same as the Black
  24. Why would I continue to eat a steak when a protein mash in the shape of a steak can provide 100% of the flavour and 95% of the real texture? Because I like a real steak. I like the care and dedication gone into cooking it just right. It wasn't just synthed in a lab. While the comparison isn't 100%, I'd pay any day for a real steak because that's what I like. PS I don't use Apple. And if you bash Apple fanboys for blindly using Apple whike you sit there having to dig through a textbook to set up a program on Linux, you're no better than them
  25. At 1440p, having more memory will improve performance. If you benched a Titan Black against a 780 Ti w/ 6GB of memory and they both ran at the same clock, the results would be almost identical Both the Titan Black and 780 Ti have the same CUDA core, ROP and TMU counts. The only differences are reference clock speeds and memory configurations. As well as the unlocked double percision performance on the black which is a developer thing and does not affect gaming performance
