MichaelWd's Achievements

  1. But not double the number of moving parts (platter spins as a whole, so one motor for that). So it is a per GB reduction in moving parts.
  2. Based on the article, the advantage of this is more capacity per slot. So saving space. And I guess also saving data/power connections. So for a given number of servers, this gives you a higher capacity ceiling while maintaining acceptable speed.
  3. Never. It's just not necessary for a monitor. Cost of monitor is only one factor- cost of graphics card is the other and that won't drop over time- if you're wanting to play the latest titles you're always going to need the top tier card.
  4. Can someone clarify if the compromised data are from OnePlus's order history (ie only affecting orders direct from their store) or from Android records (ie potentially affecting all OnePlus owners)? I imagine it is the former since people with OnePlus phones are saying they haven't got any email?
  5. Exactly this. Browsing the web, listening to podcasts and taking calls is NOT getting exponentially more demanding. No phone should require replacement every 3 years. Limited security fixes is just another manifestation of planned obsolescence. This is like buying a printer and the supplier refusing to sell you compatible ink after three years. Ridiculous
  6. Also to reduce the support burden. Emails questions/issues will probably drop off if they aren't hosted officially
  7. I wouldn't disagree. It is not fast but it is functional. If you want to talk politics about whether governments should force private companies to provide a certain service, no problem, I don't think that's what this article is about?
  8. I guess this means Sandy Bride onwards? Damn...
  9. I don't understand how a phone number can be used. Did they have the actual PHONE or just the number?
  10. It would be super useful if anyone could answer this. It looks pretty amazing from the videos but I can't be sure. The snow especially.
  11. Why do the investments need to be above a certain threshold before misleading consumers becomes wrong?
  12. Can anyone tell me which of those cards is closest in performance to the plain old 1070? I guess the 1060 Ti?
  13. "Over that period, the firm saw productivity, as measured by sales per employee" I wonder if this scales similarly for other types of work. Eg coding. I am pretty sure it wouldn't. Sales is mainly interpersonal and I can see how lower stress would help improve sales.
  14. Fair point, but I would normally expect a clear benefit to upgrade the socket, e.g. moving to PCI 4.0, whereas here the main benefit as far as I can tell is more cores. That's creating more cost for the end user as the new socket boards will come at a premium.
