Never. It's just not necessary for a monitor. Cost of monitor is only one factor- cost of graphics card is the other and that won't drop over time- if you're wanting to play the latest titles you're always going to need the top tier card.

Exactly this. Browsing the web, listening to podcasts and taking calls is NOT getting exponentially more demanding. No phone should require replacement every 3 years. Limited security fixes is just another manifestation of planned obsolescence. This is like buying a printer and the supplier refusing to sell you compatible ink after three years. Ridiculous

Fair point, but I would normally expect a clear benefit to upgrade the socket, e.g. moving to PCI 4.0, whereas here the main benefit as far as I can tell is more cores. That's creating more cost for the end user as the new socket boards will come at a premium.
