I had this same problem when I tried to format the hard drive that came with a HP computer my son bought. We upgraded his hard drive for Christmas and we were going to use the original for storage but it says you do not have permission to do this. We had to put it in my computer to format it and it worked fine after that. I think they do this to protect the end user and keep them from loosing the restore image stored on the drive. Let me know if this is what you are trying to do. I don't care a bit to Skype with you if it helps. Bird

I use a usb hub that sets on my desk and just unplug it when I don't want the stuff on.

Old computer I had

Mine was one of these old Gateway computers that I got to customize! We paid over $1600 for it and she even had a 17 inch crt monitor. You could also snap the top and front color plates off and change them with the other factory colors that were included.
