Sure, but locking a thread because "people are bickering" is downright stupid. 
A forum is a place to discuss. I perused it, nothing seemed excessively uncivil.

If the thread is going off the rails, then it's either gonna be locked or it's gonna get cleaned. That's standard practice. 

Yeah.. I doubt mods take decisions on their own without ever talking about it with other mods.
They couldn't possibly have a way to communicate between themselves.

I'm glad there's at least a handful or two of people with a head on their head on the forum lol

Arguing and having an argumentative conversation are 2 completely different things. Especially if the former devolves off topic or into name calling and childish antics. These threads are cleaned and locked as needed to keep whatever said topic is  to topic. There is not much leeway in this as the forum needs to be kept to task and decent.

Like I said, I checked out the thread and it didn't seem like anyone was name calling. Also seemed mostly on topic.

I've only noticed the cleansing part going on for the past so many months. For most of the time I've been here all they did was lock it or take down the whole post.

Yeah, if that's the case I didn't know. In which case I'm wrong (assuming that they cleaned out the thread of any derailment etc.).

i've seen plenty of threads derailed into stupid arguments, nothing happens most of the time, makes sense to have mods keep the tech news clean though. But I think it is stupid to clean a thread but not bother re-opening it, or letting it run off the rails in the first place. Instead of replying to rude ppl wanting an argument I mostly just ignore them.

Yeah, tech news are a lot more strict than other threads.

30% of posts are people posting there something completely unrelated lol

Usually, they clean the threads and then post a warning on said thread,  something along the lines of "if you continue derailing the topic, then the thread will be locked"

And then every once in a while somebody starts a topic in General Discussion about how they're unsubbing and how they use to love LMG but don't anymore and how they hate them now.

The mods turn into helicopters when those pop up. Not to shutdown the topic but to hold back the masses from the guy expressing an opinion.

...as dumb as I still think it is to post those. It's like deliberately jumping in a tank of Parana's. You know what's going to happen. Very few if anyone is going to sympathize with you.

I agree with the mods being too heavy handed a lot of the time. Gotta pander to the sensitive types, though. Cuz fuck having a backbone.
