Yeah, Noctua gave the list of the NH-D9, NH-D9DX, and NH-L9, the NH-L9 is likely not gonna cut it but the rest of them are rated by Noctua's list as the lowest performers, that being said that's still pretty good, I just worry about what if situations, and I can't trust part picker as it doesn't account for the VRM clearance issue.

I feel like that's a bad choice in logic though, cause even Intel and AMD haven't been releasing their next generations for the same price as the previous generation. Sure they're CPUs but let's be honest, it's more powerful, more expensive tech. Nvidia also more or less dominates the GPU market, especially now, so they can strong arm in this way unless something major happens. I agree it's a lot to ask, but those who can jump and drop 1-2k on the latest GPU are going to do so, and to be fair, upgrading at the start is a terrible idea due to a lack of true performance marks, so for now I'd say wait, it's not a waste, but it is not worth the risk of the new technology and the new frontier it opens for hardware enthusiasts.

    Nvidia brings new gpus.
Then AMD will... as per usual.
Prices will drop as per usual.

Plus plenty of used GPUs HAVE warranty still.
They are the only used ones worth purchasing IMO.
Only due to how crypto was easily accessible to all... Even hobbyist crypto was huge

But with a warranty...over a year or more to go,.. Still happy to purchase.
Esp for eG a GTX1070 for casual gaming going forward into 2019+ with a 1080p driven GTX1070/1080 or a used 1080Ti for 1440p+
Right price, right warranty, a right purchase.

Many people on the fence can still spend their money wisely.

Yes, well, back in the height of the mining crisis people WERE paying over 1000 bucks for the XX80ti.  So why wouldn't nVidia think they CAN sell there new XX80ti for the same price??

So, To answer the memory part, I am looking into it's compatibility, and thus far have received conflicting answers though in a case of doubt I'd likely turn to the QVL for the motherboard. Second, I have indeed, without pushing it via overclocking (no benefit no point), I have a generous 260 watts headroom between the PSUs max output and the "necessary" wattage. Third, I intend to run this on the same system, not virtualized, I frankly don't want to have to go through the trouble of divvying up drives for virtual storage space, even if that isn't necessary I don't really have access to any virtual machine software without stepping over into linux and don't want to make a dual boot system right now.
Once again, this is a server and a personal computer, the SSDs are primarily for extra game and base storage, and the RAM is to help balance both a client and Server instance of up to 70 players which theoretically requires 20GB plus the 2 for Windows, followed by any necessary RAM for other RAM hungry programs. I'm not a user that closes everything when running other programs and I intend to go dual screen. You're correct about the drives not benefiting the server but they will benefit the Personal Computer side. My network setup is at the limit of a consumer network already so there is nothing I can do on that end.

To answer that, I am in a fairly climate controlled area, and so temps aren't really a worry, plus the AIO I selected is designed for cooling the system and will be setup for a direct exhaust. The rest of the system will also have adequate cooling as it has relatively been tested already. Also I have some of the components already so balancing cost for the build would not be too hard.

I should have specified that when I meant Air I simply meant I wasn't going to do a dedicated water loop and was using a 360 rad AIO made specifically for threadripper.

That isn't really a suggestion to worry about making, as I think with anyone intending to go with a TR4 socket, they should be playing the wait for reviews and see game with AMD starting less than 2 weeks ago. I intend to make no end choice on the CPU until about christmas, as I want to amass the basically all the other components first, ending at the board, cooler and CPU.

Well, then I guess you have to ask people running the kind of game server you intend on running. But you're probably more than fine.

To be honest, it was my second time building a system and was built back in about 2014-2015 and it was made with parts on their sale price of the time. Also was before I understood most of what I do now, I agree with the overpriced bit, but I don't agree with moving the old PSU to a new system. It's an 80+ Bronze efficiency power supply and considering the items I selected for the builds, transferring it to the new system sounds like a bad and dangerous idea. In my opinion at least. And trust me for building it over the course of multiple years, this computer my current rig was cheap.

The faster HDD you have, generally it gets slower. So I replaced with a 6TB. Add another one if you do think you need more storage.
Why 3 SSDs? Reduced to 1x 1TB. Unless you video edit in workloads above 4K (5K, 8K), the extra NVMe speed doesn't matter.
    Changed PSU.
Get 32GB for now, add additional 32GB if really needed.
