  1. Your upgrade path without needing to spend a lot of money, would be the 5800X3D for the CPU. If you go a step above, 7800X3D, that requires a new motherboard and new RAM as well. After that you can basically take any GPU you want that's better than what you currently have and your PSU is good enough for it (at least 850W for the higher end). Like, if you go with a 3080 as well as a 5800X3D, you can expect about 90fps on ultra settings. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pik9x-C1-F0 Newer drivers in the future will probably increase that framerate a bit higher.
  2. Hahaha. It is what it is indeed. Did you reset your account? Pretty sure you had more than 25 posts before.
  3. That's why I also suggesting doing an OS backup with whatever software you prefer. By it Acronis, Veeam, Macrium, etc etc etc. Or if you have a secondary drive you could empty, to use it to install windows and see if it works. That way if it still happens, you can be back up and running to where to were a lot quicker.
  4. While I would also advocate for a clean install of Windows, to rule out possible issues in the future... You could also do what you thought to do and uninstall the AMD chipset drivers before upgrading. Windows is pretty good at figuring out a platform change these days (it might not be Activated anymore, tho'). Uninstalling the chipset drivers beforehand will at least help a lot to make the change smoother. If the motherboard supports BIOS flashback without a CPU, I would highly recommend checking how to do it. Then download the bios for it and place it on a flash drive ready to go for the flashback BEFORE doing the swap. Never know if the CPU will be supported out of the box by the motherboard these days. You don't want to have to put back all your other parts just to get the files.
  5. I have the same GPU. No issues on my side with the current driver. I would suggest running DDU and reinstalling fresh drivers to see if that helps. Don't forget to disable windows update's automatic driver install, too. (DDU has the option for this) If that doesn't help, there's a possibility the GPU is faulty. But lets not jump to conclusion and explore other troubleshooting path first. Like the last troubleshooting step which is doing a clean re-install of windows 11 using the ISO, RUFUS and a USB flash drive. Would highly recommend simply backing up the entire OS with your software of choice and if a reinstall didn't work, just restore everything. Or if you have another drive you can install windows on, unplug your current OS drive and keep it to the side while testing things out with the other drive on a clean install of windows.
  6. how does someone not have a bank card in this day and age... Obvious scam is obvious. If you're meeting in person, there's literally zero reason why they couldn't pay with cash. If they refuse to pay cash, it's because it is a scam.
  7. I went back to Cégep (pre-university/technical college) 4 years ago for a career change. I was taking classes with kids aged 18-20. More than a few had no clue how to get around on a windows computer even with written directives like "open the start menu, find X software and open it". One of them even asked me after class what a start menu was. I wish I was kidding. Yes they can "use" it. But they don't actually know anything about it. it's like they've never had a class where they teach the basics of a Windows computer like what the explorer window is, the system tray, the task bar, etc... Which might just be it. Even a paper test as simple as a screen shot that has little numbers next to each item and a separate page with a multiple choice list that you can link to numbers to say what each item is, would go a long way to educate them on this.
  8. That's crazy. AI will only ever get better and better, taking jobs away from people. Who needs fiver for a short video when you can just get an AI to make it even better. It's really unfortunate that no jobs are safe from AI and our robot overlords... Even the oldest job in the world won't be safe for long.
  9. Oh it absolutely is. It has been on a steady rise for a few months, when it had been creeping downward for a while. It's just going up up up with no signs of stopping. When Linus said a few months back to buy a SSD if you need one "now" and not wait on it... Well he wasn't wrong either.
  10. A basic new PC in 2024 should have at least : -An actual quad core CPU. None of that Dual Core + 2 logical thread BS. -An iGPU. Yes. A dedicated GPU is not needed for a basic PC. -At least 8GB of RAM. It's enough for those who don't play games. -A SATA SSD with 256GB of storage on it. Plenty of storage without feeling limited like 128GB is if all you're doing is storing pictures, web browsing, word processing and maybe some esport title. Though if I were to specs a basic PC for gaming... I personally wouldn't go any lower than the following unless there was a strict budget restraint : -At least 6 cores. Ryzen 5 5600G or Intel i5-10600K -A dedicated GPU. GTX 1660 or RX 5500 8G at the bare minimum. -At least 16GB of RAM. -256GB NVME SSD. Cost wise, they are practically the same as SATA SSD these days yet they are much faster. Prices of SSDs have been on a steady rise since last november... Might not be economical soon if it price keep going too high.

I love your profile picture c:

    Thanks!
  12. I agree on this. Heck, as long as you're paying the bill for the phone, you should be allowed to go with whomever you want for the service. Buy the phone with one carrier and use a different one for service. Not like these leeches were actually giving you a "deal" on the phones most of the time. With financing, you will end up paying more in the end anyway. All that said, personally I just buy cheaper "mid range" phones out right instead of paying for it monthly. No contract needed. Can go with whichever provider offers the lowest fee for the most data without being held down.
  13. This. A PSU issue is more easily found by stress testing the entire system, not by running some stress test that only affects the CPU. If anything, if that one fails, it would indicate a CPU issue. If it was a PSU issue, the whole system would outright shutdown to protect itself. You wouldn't even see a bluescreen. If it reboots with a bluescreen, it can be a variety of other issues but less likely to be the PSU. Also, you say "power intensive task", but we are clearly seeing in the screenshots that it is barely using your GPU at all and the CPU is showing about 200W in usage. 1/4 of the full potential of the PSU. I highly doubt it is PSU related. I opened all 5 of your minidump. 4 of them were CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT (101) and one was KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (1e). This would indicate a software/driver issue. The KMODE error in particular is pointing at "FocusriteUsb.sys". Some Audio driver for a USB device from what I can gather. Some DAC of sort? I would uninstall/reinstall the drivers and run it again with it unplugged. It could also be multiple audio drivers interfering with one another. Like Dolby audio and what not. But to be honest... If it only ever crashes in OCCT, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Start worrying when it happens outside of it.
  14. he literally says it's temporary until they do a more permanent solution at the timestamp you gave... along with "for real, do replace this". Tape will work fine for testing purpose on 120V to know if it will even work at all (I wouldn't recommend this for 240V or higher). Some wire nuts would've been better than tape, super cheap, available nearly everywhere. But this is really just a situation where you should replace the entire cable.
  15. The quick and easy solution would be a short usb cable in which you plug your yubikey in. https://www.amazon.com/CLAVOOP-Extension-Extender-Compatible-Keyboard/dp/B0BVGZZSBX Like this or this depending on your model https://www.amazon.com/Extension-Extender-0-65ft-Thunderbolt-Transfer/dp/B09VKZNS6Z/ Why try to modify your phone... when a cable can fix your issues. I'm sure there are shorter cables, too.
  16. Well, it's a complete build and not a GPU sold by itself. We can assume it probably wasn't used for mining. Beside, it has been shown (and benchmarked) in the past that even this doesn't really matter, the performances difference in games is negligible at best and could be attributed to difference in silicon lottery. Like this video showing two 3080, one that got mined on non stop and the other not. For gaming, even years of "heavy" 8 hours a day of gaming would barely make a scratch on the performances because it wouldn't run at 100% that whole time. Unlike mining. At worst, they will simply need to repaste the GPU and change the thermal pads to give it a second life. But I highly doubt that will be necessary. Unless it's a computer that was used in a heavy smoker's house. Then I wouldn't even touch that with a 10ft pole.
  17. Do you know if the 1060 is the 3GB or the 6GB model ? You can look up the prices by Sold Listings on Ebay to get an idea of whether or not it's a good price -1060 6GB About $125 -i5-10500 About $120 -B560M About $120 These three alone are a bit under $400 by themselves. Add the rest... and shipping cost. $500 is a good price.
  18. I knew someone like that. He caused all the issues himself and blamed it on imaginary hackers. That's some serious mental issues.
  19. Thunderbolt hub / dock. The kind with USB and displayport on it But I believe the max length for a regular copper based thunderbolt cables is something like 3 meters. So unless the PC is right in the room under you, the "cheap" solution won't really work. You will likely need a solution similar to what Linus has if it's a bit further away. A fiber optic thunderbolt cable along with a powered dock. You can probably find more information in the thread for that video Or, there's another solution that LTT showcased before
  20. Did you know, the word "Homeowner"... The center of it is Meow.
    hoMEOWner.

  21. Isn't Apple going to be taking a bunch of fees for alternative app stores and apps from outside their appstore? Meaning this barely change anything in the end for developers. Only that they "can" have third party stores now.

    Printers?

I got a Brother laser printer MFC-7860DW. It annoyed me once about low toner. I took the toner out and shaked it around a little, put it back in. This was 2 years ago. Still got toner left apparently. Just don't buy HP printers. Or Epson, they are also going the Subscription route. Though maybe not as aggressively as HP... Or really just buy a laser printer from Brother. Even their cheapest model will do the job. Unless you absolutely need color printing. Just be aware printers don't come with the USB cable nowadays.
  23. Yeah, saw this news as well... It's... Not good. Here's what a programmer (the guy who developed "Ruby on Rails") had to say about it : Source : https://www.linkedin.com/posts/david-heinemeier-hansson-374b18221_apples-new-extortion-regime-to-keep-big-activity-7156432167722479616--iaT/
