  1. Oh it absolutely is. It has been on a steady rise for a few months, when it had been creeping downward for a while. It's just going up up up with no signs of stopping. When Linus said a few months back to buy a SSD if you need one "now" and not wait on it... Well he wasn't wrong either.
  2. A basic new PC in 2024 should have at least : -An actual quad core CPU. None of that Dual Core + 2 logical thread BS. -An iGPU. Yes. A dedicated GPU is not needed for a basic PC. -At least 8GB of RAM. It's enough for those who don't play games. -A SATA SSD with 256GB of storage on it. Plenty of storage without feeling limited like 128GB is if all you're doing is storing pictures, web browsing, word processing and maybe some esport title. Though if I were to specs a basic PC for gaming... I personally wouldn't go any lower than the following unless there was a strict budget restraint : -At least 6 cores. Ryzen 5 5600G or Intel i5-10600K -A dedicated GPU. GTX 1660 or RX 5500 8G at the bare minimum. -At least 16GB of RAM. -256GB NVME SSD. Cost wise, they are practically the same as SATA SSD these days yet they are much faster. Prices of SSDs have been on a steady rise since last november... Might not be economical soon if it price keep going too high.

I love your profile picture c:

    Thanks!
  4. I agree on this. Heck, as long as you're paying the bill for the phone, you should be allowed to go with whomever you want for the service. Buy the phone with one carrier and use a different one for service. Not like these leeches were actually giving you a "deal" on the phones most of the time. With financing, you will end up paying more in the end anyway. All that said, personally I just buy cheaper "mid range" phones out right instead of paying for it monthly. No contract needed. Can go with whichever provider offers the lowest fee for the most data without being held down.
  5. This. A PSU issue is more easily found by stress testing the entire system, not by running some stress test that only affects the CPU. If anything, if that one fails, it would indicate a CPU issue. If it was a PSU issue, the whole system would outright shutdown to protect itself. You wouldn't even see a bluescreen. If it reboots with a bluescreen, it can be a variety of other issues but less likely to be the PSU. Also, you say "power intensive task", but we are clearly seeing in the screenshots that it is barely using your GPU at all and the CPU is showing about 200W in usage. 1/4 of the full potential of the PSU. I highly doubt it is PSU related. I opened all 5 of your minidump. 4 of them were CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT (101) and one was KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (1e). This would indicate a software/driver issue. The KMODE error in particular is pointing at "FocusriteUsb.sys". Some Audio driver for a USB device from what I can gather. Some DAC of sort? I would uninstall/reinstall the drivers and run it again with it unplugged. It could also be multiple audio drivers interfering with one another. Like Dolby audio and what not. But to be honest... If it only ever crashes in OCCT, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Start worrying when it happens outside of it.
  6. he literally says it's temporary until they do a more permanent solution at the timestamp you gave... along with "for real, do replace this". Tape will work fine for testing purpose on 120V to know if it will even work at all (I wouldn't recommend this for 240V or higher). Some wire nuts would've been better than tape, super cheap, available nearly everywhere. But this is really just a situation where you should replace the entire cable.
  7. The quick and easy solution would be a short usb cable in which you plug your yubikey in. https://www.amazon.com/CLAVOOP-Extension-Extender-Compatible-Keyboard/dp/B0BVGZZSBX Like this or this depending on your model https://www.amazon.com/Extension-Extender-0-65ft-Thunderbolt-Transfer/dp/B09VKZNS6Z/ Why try to modify your phone... when a cable can fix your issues. I'm sure there are shorter cables, too.
  8. Well, it's a complete build and not a GPU sold by itself. We can assume it probably wasn't used for mining. Beside, it has been shown (and benchmarked) in the past that even this doesn't really matter, the performances difference in games is negligible at best and could be attributed to difference in silicon lottery. Like this video showing two 3080, one that got mined on non stop and the other not. For gaming, even years of "heavy" 8 hours a day of gaming would barely make a scratch on the performances because it wouldn't run at 100% that whole time. Unlike mining. At worst, they will simply need to repaste the GPU and change the thermal pads to give it a second life. But I highly doubt that will be necessary. Unless it's a computer that was used in a heavy smoker's house. Then I wouldn't even touch that with a 10ft pole.
  9. Do you know if the 1060 is the 3GB or the 6GB model ? You can look up the prices by Sold Listings on Ebay to get an idea of whether or not it's a good price -1060 6GB About $125 -i5-10500 About $120 -B560M About $120 These three alone are a bit under $400 by themselves. Add the rest... and shipping cost. $500 is a good price.
  10. I knew someone like that. He caused all the issues himself and blamed it on imaginary hackers. That's some serious mental issues.
  11. Thunderbolt hub / dock. The kind with USB and displayport on it But I believe the max length for a regular copper based thunderbolt cables is something like 3 meters. So unless the PC is right in the room under you, the "cheap" solution won't really work. You will likely need a solution similar to what Linus has if it's a bit further away. A fiber optic thunderbolt cable along with a powered dock. You can probably find more information in the thread for that video Or, there's another solution that LTT showcased before
  12. Did you know, the word "Homeowner"... The center of it is Meow.
    hoMEOWner.

  13. Isn't Apple going to be taking a bunch of fees for alternative app stores and apps from outside their appstore? Meaning this barely change anything in the end for developers. Only that they "can" have third party stores now.

    Printers?

I got a Brother laser printer MFC-7860DW. It annoyed me once about low toner. I took the toner out and shaked it around a little, put it back in. This was 2 years ago. Still got toner left apparently. Just don't buy HP printers. Or Epson, they are also going the Subscription route. Though maybe not as aggressively as HP... Or really just buy a laser printer from Brother. Even their cheapest model will do the job. Unless you absolutely need color printing. Just be aware printers don't come with the USB cable nowadays.
  15. Yeah, saw this news as well... It's... Not good. Here's what a programmer (the guy who developed "Ruby on Rails") had to say about it : Source : https://www.linkedin.com/posts/david-heinemeier-hansson-374b18221_apples-new-extortion-regime-to-keep-big-activity-7156432167722479616--iaT/
  16. Indeed, even Microsoft with Windows and Windows phone were not well integrated. Though they are making strides with Android to make the it work better. Especially with that Phone Link thing. Samsung with their phone, watches and earbuds are probably the best alternative to Apple as far as ecosystem goes.
  17. Is this a recent PC purchase or have you had this computer for a while? If recent purchase, contact the seller to see if know what's up. Is the issue something new and there were no issues before? If you've had this PC for a while and this is a new issue, it means something might be going on. Have you checked Task Manager to see if anything was using a lot of your computing resources ? When was the last time you updating the drivers? Newer game updates might require newer GPU drivers to work properly. When was the last time you checked the temperatures of your hardware ? Might be a good idea to dust off the computer if you've had this for a while. To check the temperatures, I suggest the ZIP version of HWmonitor, simply extract and run : Did you overclock the CPU or the GPU ? If so, revert to no overclock and retry the game to see how it plays. If it works fine, it means the hardware got "older" and you need to readjust the overclock. Is the RAM running XMP / EXPO ? If not, set it that way in the BIOS.
  18. If pins were bent from Amazon, it means the CPU wasn't new and whoever returned it probably killed it one way or another. There is certainly something that could possibly be done with BIOS Flash Back, because that CPU wasn't supported out of the box when that motherboard came out. The 5700G compatibility was added in 7C91vA7.zip. Which, while it dates back all the way back in 2021-07-07, could be because that motherboard is old stock that was never updated. Unlikely but possible. I would still 100% return that CPU, though. Right, instead of getting bent pins on the CPU, they could've got a bent pin on the CPU socket. Which is arguably worst because it's harder to DIY fix it. Keep the trolling for Off-Topics.
  19. faster clock means nothing when the instruction per clock is trash tier. AMD CPUs at that time were not competitive at all. The Xeon, even with the lower clock, will outperform that Bulldozer CPU.
  20. The PC I use at work has 8GB of RAM. It's not enough. It's getting pinned out at 8GB doing some basic things like opening word, our in-house work software and a browser. Which slows everything up. Even more so when the slow HDD is failing to keep up. Run till fail mentality, man... At home, it might be "ok" if all you're doing is basic web browsing and some word processing. But corporations have a ton of background processes that runs and use up precious resources. By default, windows 10 alone takes up 3 to 4GB of memory, this doesn't leave much on the table. Heck, at home right now, I have over 8GB of used memory. Not sure how exactly 2678MB = 8.7GB of used memory... but it's using it.
  21. Canada primarily use british english / a bastardized version of it mixed with US english. That's why we use colour, favourite, flavour... While also spelling some words like the Americans do. We don't exclusively use American English, at all. Here's a "blog" on a literal Canadian government website that talks about it: https://www.noslangues-ourlanguages.gc.ca/en/blogue-blog/canadian-spelling-eng
  22. 7 years of support is great. They say live voice translation? ... Now if Samsung(and Google) could stop pretending like Canada is part of the US and give us phone call recording again, that'd be great. Especially considering they would need to be recording calls in some manner for this live translation to even work.
