  1. I figured, but since COVID isn't manually selectable as a preference, I have mine set to any. I would think if the COVID assignment servers are overloaded it could send me a WU from another project.
  2. 2700X isn't an APU; it doesn't have an integrated GPU, so no. You will need a GPU on top of that.
  3. I think the only trouble I'm having right now is that quite often F@H doesn't give me an assignment. I suspect it's mostly to do with their backend though.
  4. I've never had a problem using mouse and keyboard for shooters. Left hand for movement as all the main keys are on the left side of the keyboard, other hand on the mouse (or shove your keyboard to the right side if you're left handed, use your left hand for the mouse. You could use the mousekey accessibility application that turns the number pad into a pointing device if you have a 10-key on your laptop keyboard. You could look at a specialty keyboard like the Keymouse, though I'm not sure if it'll meet your needs. https://www.keymouse.com/
  5. Trust me, even people who have job titles specifying customer support or hospitality have bad days. BELIEVE ME...I've been doing it for 15+ years >_>
  6. You also have to take into account if you have really cheap network gear if all ports can handle full wirespeed simultaneously.
  7. Or if you're talking about taking a laptop and making it physically unable to output to its integrated display entirely for some reason, you open it up and disconnect the display. Probably wrap the end in electrical tape as well just in case. Really don't see a scenario of that being necessary though.
  8. Yeah...as long as it has an external display connection you don't really need to modify anything. In particular, connect an external monitor and make sure the lid's shut. when the lid is shut it should shut off the feed to the integrated display by default. The caveat is of course you'll also need to connect a keyboard at the least.
  9. Was thinking of taking up F@H. I did some coin-mining for a couple months some time ago and my GPU doesn't seem to have suffered for it. I'm curious if on average the load placed on the CPU and/or GPU is about the same as other distributed computing projects and mining. I'd prefer to not massively accelerate the wear on my components as I don't have much for part replacements at the moment, but I'd like to contribute. Please point me to an appropriate thread if this question has already been answered.
  10. A post-mortem regarding the Friday the 13th funday forum problems would be nice too. Include plenty of jokes about Linus dropping things.
  11. You hear a noise and your heat goes up? Pump.
  12. Low tier according to current PSU tier list.
  13. VLANs are a good thing if you can configure them with your network gear. Also keep in mind that not all switches are created equal. Some switches can't maintain full wirespeed on all ports simultaneously, so that's another potential source of bottleneck. Get a gigabit switch. Dumb unmanaged switches are cheap. Make sure your guest wifi's on a different vlan or network than your internal/IP cam network. Block off the routing in some fashion (vlan, manual route entries, firewall, etc.)...you don't want your guests to even SEE your internal devices on a scan even if they know the subnet you're using. You're asking for trouble otherwise.
  14. The Liberty 2 Pro (Soundcore/Anker) model wireless earbuds I bought seem to work alright as long as you follow the directions. Wouldn't buy them at normal price though. Got mine for $99 I think.
  15. Well, thanks for sharing your experience anyway. Similar fun customer service experiences are why I'll never buy a Gigabyte product again and supposedly they have more brand recognition than Zotac. Never bought a Zotac GPU. After reading this, I think I'll stick with Evga...never had an issue with them. ...but yeah, property rights and warranties are mostly garbage in the USA. The retailer tends to be more reliable than the manufacturer.
  16. I read the title of this forum post and I immediately remembered the Internet's collective reaction to Tom's Hardware Guide publishing an article saying "Just Buy It"... I wouldn't bother unless you have to have their raytracing tech. Even then I'd wait until the new cards came out to both have more choice and potentially get a discount on last-generation cards.
  17. Futureproofing's entirely subjective. I built a new system three years ago and I feel envy when it comes to some newer parts, but no compelling drive to upgrade. Unless you see something you HAVE to have, or it's not meeting your needs, it's like buying a new car. Why bother if the old one's fine? I would guess unless your CPU eats itself from the overclock or something else blows out, the thing that would likely annoy you first would be the GPU feeling too slow or memory not being enough...at least for me, it's never the CPU that causes me to upgrade.
  18. I use the same Monitor #1 with another 23" ASUS 1080p monitor without issue. No adaptive sync on the secondary. GPU is a 1080Ti.
  19. I wouldn't bother if you have a decent quality SSD.
  20. Unless it looks like it was made for removal, don't remove it. Might void warranty. There's probably a note in the documentation for it. Stickers on SSDs can also have a layer on the back that acts as a heatspreader.
  21. No idea. Pretty sure it's not a fan header with that configuration though, especially since the board diagram I provided previously made sure to call out the system fan header. Since it's close to the CMOS jumper it might also be related to a front panel or a service connector.
