A Quick google will find guides from even HP how to disassemble the PC and repaste it.

You should make sure that it isn't just clogged heatsinks by blowing them out when its powered down with some compressed air

but here is a simple document here http://h22235.www2.hp.com/hpinfo/globalcitizenship/environment/productdata/Countries/_MultiCountry/disassembly_notebo_20171020223544623.pdf

And more documentation on HP's website.  https://support.hp.com/ca-en/product/omen-x-by-hp-17-ap000-laptop-pc/16851401/document/c01657439

Kogumaru reacted to pyrojoe34 in Overclock necesary for gaming?
Is it necessary? No, but you're leaving free performance on the table if you don't. It also depends on if you need it or not. If you never use more than half the power anyway then I wouldn't bother. Your system is well balanced so you probably don't really need to for just gaming.
If you decide to there's no reason to push for max OC off the bat so your best bet is to learn a bit about it and settle for a mild/safe OC with near-zero risk. Most chips will give you at least a 10-20% increase in raw performance with what would be considered a very conservative OC.

You can always just wait on it until you notice it's a limiting factor (maybe a few years down the road when you upgrade the GPU or games are more CPU intensive) and at that point, because the hardware is older, it's not as worrying to play around with as a brand new chip you just bought.

I actually bought this motherboard, but had to return it because of the lack of m.2 support. In addition, it lacks an extra USB header for something like a Corsair H100i

then it is about par for the case/cooler combo. you can try to undervolt the CPU to lower the temps, but what you have now is what you got.
nuttin' really obviously wrong. usually in a spacial case with adequate ventilation, you'd have 5-8° above ambient temperature. since you are shorted the adequate ventilation, then you are fine at 12-15° above ambient.

That seems normal for that small cooler, I think Linus used this in Edzel's 5960x workstation and it was already extremely warm on idle. You could try reseating it if it changes anything but Id doubt it.

Really not sure about that Thermaltake, it might not work delivering its full power. Try for a Corsair SF450 and it should do what you need it to (has 2 6-pin connectors).

I would have said to go for a Z270 board, but lots of Z170 boards have it as well. I'd go for the Z170M Mortar from MSI, it's a decent board for the price.

In only one game (BF1) because it's an unoptimized piece of shit. This word gets tossed around very lightly on here.

    Please. Stop.

To answer the OP's question though, it's entirely dependent on the game. I'd personally wait for the 1080ti imho.

    Bravo guys,
You're fine, don't listen to LTT's overthinking CPU bottleneck squad.

I suggest grab that ROG Swift 34 1440p.
