lukx reacted to RollinLower in Noob kindly asks for help with custom loop (not sure what fittings I might need)
well, you need 2 fittings on the CPU, 2 on the pump and 2 on your radiator. so that makes 6 already, and that's the absolute bare minimum.
you might also want some 90's and 45's to clean up the way you route your tubing, and you should also include a valve to empty the loop. it is possible to build a loop without one, but i can tell you from experience that it makes emptying the loop much easier.

what is the loop layout you want?

I'm sorry for not giving help, but I've been looking for the evolv atx, where are you buying it from?

lukx reacted to vanished in Any way to figure out 48 and 64 TH3 clock speeds?
The new 32 core threadripper is 3.6 Ghz base, and the 32 core EPYC is 2.9 GHz base this time around, with the 64 core EPYC coming in at 2.6 GHz.
So obviously this is a total guess and should be taken with at most +/- 50% accuracy, but we might see a 3.3 GHz base on the 64 core.

However that's just stock performance for which they're seriously limited by TDP, even with their impressive efficiency.  Because it's threadripper, you'll be able to overclock it and very likely reach at least 4 GHz all core, if not more like 4.3 - 4.4, assuming you're ok with ~600+ W of power consumption.  The upper range again is a guess based on other chips in the lineup, but the 4 GHz minimum is something I can virtually guarantee since both previous generations were able to hit that and clock speed has been improved across the board since then.

Technically you can cool the CPU with anything, but the motherboard's VRM for the CPU must be water cooled with a custom loop. At that point you might as well have the Hero.

Its a board made for open loop systems, not air cooling

If you expect more features from Thread Ripper (let's call it TR) 2nd gen then i suggest wait but there are already a price cut to the TR 1900X that makes it at $449, so that is something if you want a feature rich 8c/16t processor

Potentially there would be more PCIe lanes to the 2nd gen?

how much will you really care for the extra 200MHz? unless what you're really looking forward to is the better power efficiency? there isn't a good enough reason for you to wait at least a month (since we have no info on TH2 yet) without your system when we know the gains are nice but not very big.

if you need it now buy it now. you can keep waiting "ad vitam aeternam"
