  1. There's a decent line of sight gap in the forest, about 200m from mounting positions, with very low brush coverage that won't be expected to obstruct it. Semi-rural, so not really worried about interference. I found this article: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2021/08/point-to-point-wi-fi-bridging-between-buildings-the-cheap-and-easy-way/ and am leaning towards a pair of CPE210 because it'll be <$120 total shipped, and comes with the PoE injectors. https://www.tp-link.com/us/business-networking/outdoor-radio/cpe210/#specifications But they're a few years old - is there a Only aiming for 50Mbps - this is upgrading a 6Mbps connection that runs from a neighbours property who is refusing to allow an upgrade to run on the same poles. The receiver will be out in the open, and this is in the rainforest in BC. I have no idea if IPX5 is sufficient. This is an install for a friend who is not technically inclined, so reliability and cost are the most important factors. Any suggestions for mounting brackets that will make it easy to aim? The transmitter will be about 20m above the receiver so we'll have to aim them at an angle.
  2. Instead of labelling "in" and "out," label "hot" and "cold" ?
  3. Aww you didn't mention the old Airport Express also has an optical audio output in that 3.5mm jack and way predates Airplay! AirTunes etc was really neat.
  4. Great video covering the issues with the huge number of cheap laser cutters out there:
  5. time to follow tommy wiseau and film every angle with two cameras simultaneously
  6. surprised you didn't just hack more legs in parallel to deal with the weight
  7. just don't let Terren cancel the badminton project
  8. My office PC still runs an i5-650 and it's fine. 4GB -> 8GB RAM and SSD installed with the Windows 10 upgrade 5 years ago saved it. Discord is actually the most problematic thing, it often seems to have bugs despite the OS and chrome being up to date. Youtube runs 720p fine, twitch can stream 480p, Matlab works fine too for normal light stuff. Solidworks is no longer an option though. Plenty of money for a replacement, just can't be bothered.
  9. I've been waiting for Alex to do this for YEARS. Nice to see safety glasses when playing around with it. But when are you modding the CPU to improve thermal contact?
  10. Ugh. They just announced they’re closing because money.
  11. I hope they continue making machines without fans. I only got the M1 because it didn't have one! It does slow down a TON during photo editing, if I don't prop it up for better airflow.
  12. Shower might have been to target bike commuters?
  13. Halo was the first thing that got me considering an upgrade to my 7950. But then I remembered I didn't like multiplayer Halo, and MCC runs great. Played a bunch of Apex with it last year though!
  14. Great video! One of the more polished "lets try something crazy without much planning" ones.
  15. Workshop videos are always favourites of mine
  16. The Samyang 135mm f/2 would be a great lens for this. Super sharp and fast but still cheap full-frame lens. https://www.flickr.com/photos/nafiannafclistowel/36234624021/ Other lenses that do it better are expensive... https://phillipreeve.net/blog/the-best-lenses-for-brenizer-bokehpanoramas/ I've also had good success stitching stuff with Affinity Photo, which is a lot cheaper than a year of a lightroom subscription and also has good content fill if you miss stuff. Worse for regular raw photo editing, though.
  17. Target display mode didn't just make your old mac work with your new mac, you could even use it as a monitor for Windows computers! I had my 2010 27" iMac as a 1440p screen for my AMD 7950 and loved it.
  18. Next time get a fan coil unit, they usually come with massive blower fans.
  19. Another Vancouver local did a great video on living in a storage locker here, his setup was pretty sick: https://youtu.be/HPVCTLPNUzo
  20. So why didn't we see a bunch of C-mount adapters used here? Give it some good optics and show off! Also it shouldn't be hard to script something to have a shutter button to just trigger the command line?
  21. Yep. Digital signals can have noise too. It's basically the same effect that causes interference / longer distances to give worse wifi connections. Also for what it's worth, there's no reason you can't make a very fancy active HDMI cable that's reversible. It's just a lot of wasted circuitry.
  22. Trying to use a non-cnc machine to tap a few holes like that is like running 100m with a stack of china just to save some time. Awesome video though.
  23. Why did this not count as a "sponsor showcase?" Or did you give up on putting that in the title?
