Coswar reacted to nicklmg in New Platform Launch Feedback & FAQ
Try http://linustechtips.com/early
We expected their service to go down, so we added our own signup page. We will be passing on these database entries to them throughout the night and into tomorrow, and we're hoping that they will send account confirmations as soon as they can. Might take a bit longer, but at least we can still push signups through if their page goes down
I've already passed the feedback on to our Vessel rep. Being one of the first creators on the platform gives us a direct line to their creator support staff, who have been really helpful so far. I'll let you know if we hear back about this.
At the moment I think it is 1080p, but they have been really open to our suggestions for higher resolution and higher bitrate options. Not sure when they can implement those, but we will be some of the first to know when they do.

WAIT HOLD UP. WE DONT WANT LINUS'S PERSONAL PC. The case has a lot of meaning to him guys. It was a gift from his wife. I believe it was the first gift from her too.
EDIT: Thanks for all the likes guys! Hopefully Linus or someone from LMG will read this and this will make Linus keep his build. Even if the goal of 100k is made we should convince Linus to do another build maybe, with signatures from the whole LMG family and maybe even his wife. This would let Linus keep the build he has with the special case his wife gave him. Besides, his personal PC would be more special to him than us.

Coswar reacted to ButterTime in i7 4970K temperature problems on stock cooler
I tested with the stock paste. I first used the system with water cooling and it was not as cool as i would like. I took the water cooling block on and off many times to ensure i got the paste right. Same result every time. I then went on to use the stock cooler cause i knew i would have a good case in an RMA if the stock cooler cannot keep the CPU cool. I used the preapplied thermal paste as it was the first time i put on the stock cooler and it wasn't installed on purchase.
(Sorry for not responding quicker)

Coswar reacted to StainlessSR in i7 4970K temperature problems on stock cooler
+1 this.
Myself (and probably others) are running on the supposition that he/she (for some reason) had to apply thermal paste as in the vast majority of persons experience's (myself included) factory applied thermal paste is good. There was no statement that the watercooling used was AiO, and most BYO waterblocks do not ship with thermal paste, and some persons will use the stock cooler to test the system while building prior to installing into a case with a mounted water cooling setup.
Regardless, testing the thermal paste with new is a quick and fairly cheap thing to test prior to RMA-ing the cpu.

Sir - He may not be using the stock paste as he has been using a watercooler as well. If the guy would just reply we could clear this all up

Coswar reacted to NeverNotExhausted in Bottleneck
Because a bottleneck literally means one component holding the entire system to it's performance level. If he still see's some benefit from a GPU upgrade then it's not an actual bottleneck. For sure it's not ideal and he isn't getting his moneys worth. But it still isn't a bottleneck.
This is a topic Linus has covered in the WAN show before aswell and peoples overuse of the term.

Coswar reacted to StainlessSR in i7 4970K temperature problems on stock cooler
I would have to agree that the thermal paste could be the culprit.
Here is a techquick on thermal paste application and here is a good vid on how different application methods affect the spread.
What type of thermal compound are you using and what is the age of the tube?
What I usually do is to test to see how much I need to apply to get good coverage (yes this means placing and removing the heatsink and cleaning it each time but practice makes perfect).
If you are using a good paste and have good coverage you just may need to rma it.

Coswar reacted to zlolslavez in Bottleneck
Why would you need to replace RAM when upgrading CPU. Say the R390X was, $699 (most likely more than that but I have no idea), an equal investment into a Z97 Board and an i7 (hell still have money to buy more ram for no reason) would be a much better investment. (I would probably pick up the best i5 at the time with a z97 board, and then save up for a r390x.
edit: Didn't know AM3 still had ddr2 support, still have money to buy DDR3 Ram.

Coswar reacted to NeverNotExhausted in i7 4970K temperature problems on stock cooler
But if he's gone from an AIO back to a stock cooler, chances are that he's wiped off the stock thermal paste after the stock coolers first use and replaced it this time around

Just buy any reasonably reviewed PCI-E Wireless adapter and you will be fine! Look for at least a N300 one (from worst to best they are : N150, N300, N450, N600, N750, N900). If your router supports AC then look for one that supports that.

Get one that lets you choose the frequency via a small LCD rather than one which has a switch with several options. That way you can make sure you can pick the most clear frequency to broadcast on.
I had a Belkin one for my iPod before which was very good!

Coswar reacted to WinNut in 2014 LinusTechTips Member Of The Year Nomination/Voting Thread
It's December, and I guess we should decide who should be the unofficial official Member of the Year.
RULES FOR NOMINATION
You are permitted to nominate yourself. If you nominate yourself, you must also nominate another person. This is to keep it fair. When nominating, use @ so that they receive a notification. Write a brief explanation of why you nominate them. Any nominated member must have > 100 posts. Nomination will close 24 hours after the posting of this thread, which will be 12/19/2014 4:00 PM EST. Tomorrow I'll create a poll and you can vote. Voting will close on Monday, December 22nd. Good luck and have fun!
I nominate myself and the following people:
@Yummychickenblue @terrytek @antoainb @TheSLSAMG @tmcclelland455 @Flight1sim @Speedbird @FuzzyYellow @NuroKnight @Tech_Dreamer @LukaP @FlamingDefibs @NerdNinja @Swndlr @XTankSlayerX @Techswede @JoaoPRSousa @Jerakl @CreepersCrawlers
NOTICE: If a member has already been nominated don't renominate them because you'll blow up their notification box and create thread clutter when I try to make the poll.
Admin edit: Added Linus to the poll since it was an obvious mistake that he wasn't on it - Linus

Coswar reacted to brownninja97 in Windows 7 update destroys(nearly) everything: 19kb of death
Yesterday microsoft rolled out a 19kb(KB3004394) "important" update which was meant to fix something. Alas it causes what can only be described as complete anarchy. People may die.
Problems it causes
Completely breaks virtual pcs from being created Prevents installing new programs Some chances of administrator abilities suddenly vanishing Security essentials/ windows defender breaking Malwarebytes losing its sh** because windows is trying to prevent it from launching and chameleon kicks in. Refusal to uninstall that patch Youtube not working over 1080p Also AMD have been getting attack became their new omega drivers wouldnt install, UBISOFT blames AMD and AMD blames MICROSOFT and im sure somewhere, some place Barnacules is dying of laughter.
