  1. That seems a bit much, but I mean hey if it works, it works lol. So you don't take a huge performance hit when you do this?
  2. So you literally just lower the power target? By how much usually? Obviously the start is 100%, so do you just drop it by like 10%?
  3. Ah I see, I mean I guess that makes sense when you think about it. Really? Interesting, obviously every card is different and you've got a Ti, granted the 12GB 3080 is basically a mini Ti, but what did you do for yours?
  4. I just ran it through Unigine Heaven for about 40-ish minutes. No crashes, temps stayed around 78c at max (default target is set to 83c apparently), the only weird thing was utilization was never at 100%. It sometimes got to like 98% and 99% but typically was around 97%. That might be the PSU causing that. My CPU is a 5600X so I doubt it's that. But in that case looks like everything is mostly fine then? Also yeah, like I mentioned, I was tempted to UV it, I've never done something like that though, so I'd need to watch a guide on it. I believe you just take it down like 5-ish mv and then run a test, if it doesn't crash, do it another 5mv, repeat process until crash happens and go back to what you had before the crash right?
  5. So please bare with me here, before someone goes "it's because your GPU isn't getting enough power" I know that's what the 3 blinking red lights mean, I also am more than likely going to be buying a new PSU at some point anyways. I currently have a 760w Platinum from Fractal Design, originally I had a 2070 Super which was more than enough for it. A lot of 3080s, even 12GBs, which the OC 12GB is the exact model I have, say they need 750w of power at minimum. The Strix is just a beefy card that can draw a lot of power and I'm assuming ASUS expects a lot of people to try and OC it more past what it does out of the box and so it's recommended PSU is 850w. I am not actually going to do that, even with a higher wattage PSU, I won't be OC'ing the card further. I am wondering however, if I were to undervolt the card and lower the MHz a tad, would that decrease the chance I have of getting any crashes in the meantime before getting the new PSU? Or is that maybe not necessary? To be fair, I haven't run a benchmark yet... sooo I probably should do that in a bit to see if it'll keep crashing or something to see if how it plays with my 760w out of the box. Regardless, I'm getting a new PSU at some point, I just want to know if maybe there's anything else I can do in the meantime so I can actually uh, use the card for a bit without it just freaking out on me lol.
  6. I'll have to check the box to see if it has another one, but I'm pretty sure it had like 4 altogether or something like that. And alright.
  7. Heya, with all the stuff about power spikes and whatnot, I'm unsure if my PSU is enough for the ASUS Strix 3080 12GB. It does have a recommended wattage of 850W, but I've heard people getting away with 750W PSUs with their 3080s and even 3090s apparently. The Ion+ 760P is a platinum 760W PSU, so it's high quality, but I am unsure who actually makes Fractal's PSUs. Are they in house or do they have another company make them for them? I've heard with Seasonic units, for example, even with their higher quality ones, you'd still need to use all 3 PCIe connectors for something like the ASUS Strix since they "cheaped out" on their power delivery system or something when it comes to that (I'm not super knowledgeable about PSUs, I just tend to somewhat know what to look for). So I'm wondering if I can get away with just the two cables and one of the extra 8-pin connectors that hangs off of them or if I'd need to use an entire extra cable?
  8. (Been asking a lot of GPU questions on here lately... I am very indecisive lol) I've been staring at 3080s for awhile now and keeping track of stock and the MSI cards are seemingly always in stock. I mostly want a 3080 12GB model since typically nowadays the price is pretty close to the standard 10GB 3080s (when they're, y'know, not being price hiked to oblivion). However, I've noticed the ASUS TUF model is on backorder, though it's a Ti model and unfortunately it is like 100 bucks more than the MSI 12GB model. I have never owned anything MSI before and while I know they're a pretty decent company... I would much rather an EVGA card (too bad they're not really an option now), but I also am pretty loyal to ASUS too, I like their products and would really like their TUF card as it performs really well. But spending over 100 dollars more for the Ti TUF card kinda sucks when I originally just wanted the 12GB version of the 3080 but the only cards that are really available all the time again, seem to be MSI's. To clarify, I have to buy a card from Newegg as I use their credit card and uh... it's like the only way I can afford more expensive PC parts since I obviously can pay for it over time.
  9. I just prefer Nvidia's software and tech over AMDs personally.
  10. Just curious, MSI's 3080s seem to be the most available (for whatever reason) and I've really been wanting to get a 3080 since they're MSRP (somewhat lol). I have never bought anything MSI, I've actually also only bought EVGA for my GPUs and unfortunately with the news of them leaving the GPU market, it's caused people to buy up most of their remaining stuff pretty fast. The only thing I really see that they have left new on Newegg is a 3070 and considering I have a 2070 Super at the moment, that wouldn't really be a huge upgrade for me. ASUS is mostly sold out and when I read reviews for Gigabyte cards, a lot of them seem to cause issues for whatever reason. The main complaint for MSI is their software (mostly complaints about the RGB) and the cooling, but the cooling is immediately fixed when you use software like Fan Control and give it a custom setting. So I'm just curious about others experiences with MSI products, more specifically their GPUs of course. Not very interested in spending over 1k for a GPU so despite me being a little curious about the 4080, that price tag is rough lol.
  11. Hmm, so basically with the 5600X I currently have, I am more than likely fine, but if I get the 5800X3D later, I should probably consider upgrading my PSU?
  12. I said in the main post that I have a Fractal 760w Platinum PSU, I am unsure if I will need to buy a new PSU for my 3080 due to the potential power spikes. Then I mentioned just now in my other reply that I may also upgrade to a 5800X3D in the future and will need a better cooler for my CPU.
  13. I see, I've been slightly tempted to also grab a 5800X3D since 8 cores + better gaming performance because of the 3D V-Cache tech, but that also means I'd need a new cooler too (cause I highkey have just been using the stock one lol). So at that point I'm not sure where my wattage would be sitting at.
  14. Firstly, hello! I haven't been on here in awhile and I appreciate anyone who takes the time to help me out here. I currently have a Ryzen 5600X, 32GB of Corsair RAM, ASUS TUF X570 Pro MB, 4TB of SSD storage and a 2070 Super. I'm overall not super thrilled with Nvidia's 4000 series and their prices so I'm looking at 3080s as I feel like the 3080 12GB is the best in terms of price to performance on the higher end. I could go for a 10GB, but the 12GB does have better performance and isn't simply just another 2GB add on. Plus I kiinnndddaa don't want to upgrade my PSU if I really don't have to so I don't really want to go higher than that. However, I understand that the 3080s and higher tend to draw a lot of power and have the potential to spike pretty high in power especially if you don't undervolt them so I may have to upgrade my PSU regardless. I have a Fractal 760w Platinum PSU. So it's pretty high quality, but I still am unsure if I have enough headroom. The 3080 12GB that I am currently looking at is the Gigabyte windforce model and it says a 750w PSU is recommended and also apparently in video reviews the GPU doesn't seem to go much higher than 320w typically. So should I be good? Or should I probably buy another PSU just in case? Also as a small bonus question, has anyone here bought something refurbished from Newegg before? If so, how did it go? I'm seeing a lot of refurbished cards and the lower prices make them kinda tempting.
  15. Ah, thanks. But I actually just bought the Fractal Design Ion+ 760P since it actually was 130 bucks on Newegg. Same as the Seasonic I was going to purchase.
