  1. Adding to the 'other products I use as a big dude' commentary, One Bone out of Montreal has some great gear.
  2. It'd be a shame if you guys didn't swap out the lids on those hard drives for some acrylic. Gotta see those platters spin baby!
  3. @LinusTech: Re: travel to events - could it be more cost-effective to hire local freelance journalists in NY and China to provide coverage, rather than have you or your employees go out there?
  4. We left a bit early to try and catch the six, which was the one that went down. Got on the seven so that worked out - dammit, I was looking forward to the Pacific buffet but the Dude was fading fast at that point, so he ate shitty pizza from the terminal kiosk instead.
  5. The Dude and I had a great day, thanks to everyone at LTT (and Floatplane Media, and special guests) for making it happen.

    #AskLTX Q&A

Edzel: What's the most extreme or ridiculous thing you've had to do to a coworker to push production forward? Nick: Cake or pie? Linus: What fantasy/sci fi piece of future tech are you yearning to see in reality?
  7. @CPotterSo I've decided that I'm taking the car over to the mainland, because who needs money. How's the parking at the Oval?
  8. Super stoked! Any age restrictions for the jousting or hamster ball? My lil dude is ten, but he's a BIG ten - like, over five feet tall.
  9. Damn. That's epic bad luck.
  10. Depends on what you're into and how much cash you want to blow. I'll warn you, downtown Van is on a $ par with other major international cities like New York, London, Tokyo, etc. Outlying areas like Richmond (where the venue is) are less expensive to stay at. If you're outdoorsy there's a veritable fuckton of places to go, and this is probably the cheapest option. If you're crunchy granola outdoorsy, I'd recommend taking a few days and hitting up some of the Gulf islands: Hornby, some of the most epic scenery you'll come across; Saltspring, larger and a ton of artists and decent camping; Gabriola, where the Malaspina Galleries are wave-cut sandstone formations that are pretty spectacular and were painted by the Nanaimo First Nations. Ferry-hopping can be cheap if you walk on. If you're into the whole British Colonialism schtick, then my hometown of Victoria will scratch that itch. Living the highlife of expensive restaurants, hotels, and nightclubs is downtown Van. Money will buy you a world-class adventure. Decent surfing in Tofino, if you don't mind wearing 5mm neoprene. Amazing scuba in the Saanich inlet. Whale watching, fishing, museums, whatever man. Tons of stuff out here.

    Reddit AMA!

Tickets purchased. Missed the AMA (some of us have to work on the last day of the fiscal year, mister).
  12. I'm tempted to volunteer to cater it. I was a cook and chef for 27 years.
  13. Nope, meant the one in Nova Scotia: https://www.google.ca/maps/dir/Richmond+Olympic+Oval,+6111+River+Rd,+Richmond,+BC+V7C+0A2/Lansdowne+Station,+NS+B0K+1Z0/@45.5501445,-107.8710013,4.25z/data=!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x54860ad3c5eb4c4d:0x100acce00a5ec108!2m2!1d-123.1518888!2d49.1748301!1m5!1m1!1s0x4b5c01303d14aac1:0xec9b5bfac31f10e9!2m2!1d-62.8188889!2d45.4286109!3e2?hl=en
  14. I went to the one in 1968, and the one in 1982. I also attended last years. Out of all of them, last years smelled the best and had the least corduroy.
  15. Not even, I figure it's a fifteen minute walk from the Lansdowne station.
  16. Victoria. Happy to see it in Richmond this year, might not have to catch the 7am ferry over. Managed to keep the day under $100 last year - park the car at the Victoria terminal, walk on, TransLink DayPass and ride the ghetto limos. If I'm feeling really saucy I could take the car over and squeeze in a trip to Ikea. Or take my 10 yr old with me to LTX and my wife could hit up the Ikea while the dude and I geek out.
  17. It reminds me of overly pretentious food made by people who call themselves Executive Chefs.
  18. Ain't no thing! Hit me up if you need some assistance with the event planning. I have an unusual skill set and know words like scope, procurement, and logistics.
  19. Here's what I liked: - Interactive venues: loved the case toss, bungee race, pugilist sticks. Things to do between announcements and t-shirt tosses. One of the things I love about an event like, say, PAX, is that there's tons of stuff to DO, not just look at. Keep me busy. - The meet-and-greet: loved that you guys were down on the floor with us plebs, shaking hands and kissing babies. - Vendor booths: MOAR. Would love to see more vendors with more stuff, more giveaways, more games. - VR! - Video games! - Life-sized standees: those things were hilarious. - The auction: pretty funny stuff! - The space: good size for the amount of attendees; busy on the floor but not cramped, space in the rafters if the introverts need to decompress. Here's what I think could be improved on: - Security: you guys had, easily, $10k of swag loosely guarded by a dude or two. If it's the same setup this year, you guys are gonna have a bad time. Keeping the swag out on display is great, but a velvet rope and a mean-lookin' dude isn't enough. I would suggest making it less easily accessible. - Other security: the door prizes were AMAZING. Of course, I got none of them, such is my lot in life. However, if I were a less honest and upright citizen, I might have considered convincing Nick (by possibly nefarious means) to call out the numbers that myself and my friends had in our possession. Oh look, we just walked away with several thou in gear! How pleasing. I'd suggest attaching identifiers to each sold ticket and drawing from that data, rather than the easily-gamed stubs. - More VR! - More video games! BYO rig LAN party? The logistics are insane but when has that ever stopped you guys? - Options to purchase merch: there were none. That was, in my opinion, a massive opportunity wasted. I had money burning a hole in my pocket. It could have been yours. - The auction: nothing there I actually wanted. Again, I felt that that was a missed opportunity. I understand you're not about to auction off embargoed chips or vendor samples, but there must be a few choice pieces of Scrapyard Wars memorabilia kicking around. - The venue itself: while in some ways the arena was perfect (size, food vendors already present, less-expensive location) I definitely feel there are other options - ones with better sound and less janky equipment. I would BLOODY LOVE IT if the Vancouver downtown convention centre could be used. Parking sucks and it's expensive, but it's the big leagues. Maybe if LTX grows a bit? That shit's world-class. - My kid's prolly old enough to bring this year without being bored or easily exhausted. Maybe stuff that would appeal to the pre-teens? It's a bit of an ask but I wasn't the only parent there. Just a thought.

  21. These kids are fantastic and I'm really happy for them! Wait'll you guys see the video with Charlie. He's a hoot.
  22. #2 trending on Reddit right now is Linus' USB comment to his kiddo.
