Afabril reacted to Doughmay in Recommended MOBO PLEASE!
Oh. For some reason the thread is blank LMAFO.
Anyway, a good board for a 6700k.....Hmmm,...An expensive option, Asus Maximus Hero, but has goods overclocking. Since its a K CPU I'm assuming overclocking.

its a solid board. you could probably get away with something cheaper too.

7700k is clear winner if you are going to overclock as it can hit 5ghz (which you should be if going k) - if not then just get a which i7 is cheapest

If its a reputable seller, go for the 7700K, It's a bit of an upgrade (just not worth it to sell a 6700K to get one)

If the 7700K is cheaper that is the obvious buy. They are similar in performance, 7700K just has some features that come with the Kaby Lake platform

7700k and MSI Z270 GamingProCarbon or Tomahawk are good boards

Asus Z270-E. It is cross compatible with Skylake/Kaby Lake, and has onboard wifi, dual m.2 slots, and is about $200 USD. If not, Z170 Pro Gaming. It is cheaper, so better value over the Gigabyte board.

I choose the Gigabyte G1 Gaming 7 and a 6700K, but ran into several problems with stability, even at very mild CPU overclocking (4.1 - 4.2 Ghz).
Sometimes PCIe (Dual 1080's) and SATA devices wre not recognized during boot, Windows suffered from spontaneous reboots - even without any overclocking.
I have been through several BIOS upgrades and finally sent back the Gigabyte board.
I switched to the ASUS z170 Pro Gaming, and haven't had a single problem.
The 6700K is stable - 4.7 Ghz @ 1.380 Volts, and LLC level 5 using a 240mm AIO.
Of course, the Gigabyte board I got, could have been a faulty one, but to be honest, I wouldn't recommend that one to anybody.
Cheers,
Søren

My favourite Z170 is the Asus Z170 MAXIMUS VIII HERO The ROG board is probably overpriced, though they do come with some amazing onboard sound cards and some other luxe features that may or may not be important to you.

I have the Asus Z170 Pro Gaming Mainboard and i like it. But i would prefer the mainboard from Gigabyte. Just because of the Estatics, 2 Lan Ports and more.

The middle term with the i7 6700, will be better than the i5 6600k, give you HT for more future proof and you can save the buck from overclocking(stock cooler+cheap mobo).

Why not get the 7700K? It's pretty much the same price. Maybe a Z270 board?

I can't easily believe an i5-6600K will become "obsolete" for games in the next few years. So far it doesn't look like Intel plans on making CPUs with greater than 4 threads available for cheaper than $300 anytime soon, so it would therefore be slightly suicidal for game developers to plan on the bulk of their audience owning them. We may be headed for that eventually, but I don't think it's going to happen for a while.
How much an i7 helps depends on what games you're going to play and at what framerates. If you want to play Battlefield 1 and try to maintain 100+ FPS, that appears to take an i7. If you're only aiming for 60 FPS and playing a wide variety of games, you're probably not going to regret having an i5.

Afabril reacted to Matu20 in Which MB should I buy? Help please!
1. Z170 is not a motherboard, it's just a chipset
2. And a motherboard doesn't just have "overclocking", it doesn't work like that
Just buy the cheapest Z170 motherboard that aesthetically looks good to you, can't go wrong.

If you have the budget and like the look: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132715
Here is a cheaper option that looks nice: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130900&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker, LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=
I would personally go with the ASUS because I like the white look better but both are very good imo.

Stay away from gigabyte cards this generation. EVGA coolers are also underperforming.
I've had a EVGA 1070 FTW before all the VRM issues that I managed to exchange and got a MSI gaming X which runs much cooler.
The most reliable mobos come from MSI and Gigabyte, according to failure rates.
ASUS makes good motherboards but if you have an issue you're in to a world of pain because their RMA/Support is absolute garbage.
ASRock is also good, and they don't make value boards only anymore, since they aren't no longer affiliated with ASUS.

Its not bad by no means, but they're better options. No OCZ Trion 150? That is toshiba.

That board is a WAY to expensive. Go cheaper imo. I don't grade PSUs, so I don't know about it.. looks solid to me. Get a Mx300, OCZ Trion 150, PNY Cs1311, or if you can afford it the Samsung 850 Evo over the HyperX SSD.
