This is not okay.

Quote

He said if a gamer spent $60 for the game, an additional $20 per month for loot micro-transaction boxes and played around 2.5 hours a day for one year, it comes out to roughly 40 cents per hour of entertainment.

lol, what? 2.5 hours every day? Whoever conducted this study is delusional. xD

I really hope that game companies don't raise prices because of this "study" -_-

Erhm, yeah. I play a lot, but not 2.5 hours every day. I have to eat, work, and sleep unfortunately. And next is he going to say cars are too cheap because you can buy a new one for a few thousand and then drive it 100,000 miles or more?

Damn, I have played over 6000 matches in LoL ... I am lucky that RIOT was not avare of this study back then, otherwise that game would cost a whole fortune.

  3. Zando_

    Zando_

@WereCat so you owe them $3000 or something? How long does a match take?

The funny thing is that people play cheaper games way more than more expensive ones. I mean, CS:GO and LoL are two of the most popular games out there. CS:GO costs $10 and LoL costs $0. xD

Yep. Like tons of people said, the whole appeal of gaming is that it's cheap. Like I play a lot of SWTOR (free) Battlefront (got that for $5), and the only game I payed full price for is ARMA 3, at $40 + $20 for DLCs. But I'm loath to buy Battlefront II, since it's $60-80.

@Zando Bob About 30min on avg

The only game I have played for more tan 2hours straight in a very long time, like years time, was The Witcher 3 which hasn't any of the micro-transactions involved :P

  8. Zando_

@WereCat so yeh, if you payed $1 per hour, then that's $3000 for 6000 matches. So the price of a decent used car.

2.5 hours US ? CAD ? Yen ? What conversions are they using ????

And yet again, the people doing these "studies" are completely detached and clueless with regards to the actual gaming community, making their findings completely and utterly irrelevant. *slow clap*

In the thread someone noted that one of the people who was a big part of the study is directly involved with EA in a business sense soooo yeah what did you really expect xD

  13. PCGuy_5960

    PCGuy_5960

Well, I guess that this "study" isn't very unbiased. xD

Gaming used to be about the games and the experience those games brought you. Now it's all about the $$$ and it's just not the same. You cannot put a dollar value on gaming since everyone perceives that value differently. This article is just beyond stupid.

To me, I cannot give half a shit about $/hour. As long as I enjoyed playing the game, even if it was £60 for 20 hours or £20 for 2000hours+, I'd be happy.

@Abyss Gaming Is that me? The most I've ever played was 128 hours in 2 weeks for CSGO :P (and 112 hours/2W for R6S).

@Mr.Meerkat I used to rack up 182 hours every 2 weeks on warframe back when I was in college.
