  1. But Ryzen is out now? at least for pre-order isn't it? NDA is dropped
  2. Cryptonite

Ryzen 1700X and ASRock board ordered. All in on…

dude, I'm so damn impressed with what I've seen so far, I hope you enjoy it I'd buy one if I needed it
  3. it's not that bad, I played some GTA V; ROTR; WATCH DOGS 2 and a few others and all of them perform fairly well (a load better than his current rig) and with him having a $ 700 budget he can bells and whistle up his rig with parts he can keep later once he has some more moola to up his game even more, otherwise he rushes in now, buys a great CPU and has a mid range GPU... then he'd have to buy a new GPU later yet again Note: I say bells and whistle up, but I mean the extras others neglect, like storage and a nice case plus an SSD
  4. true it is dated and crappier than the latest i3's (NOT an older version) but he can still game with it really well and the 1070 will still perform great in most games, I lose about 10-20 fps on average vs my 4970k with my 1070 on my friend's 8320 and it's still more than playable if he plans on upgrading the CPU in the near (after ryzen release) future
  5. I'd go with a 1070, even with a bottleneck he can still do with his FX CPU like he said he'd like to for now, get an SSD, another HDD a good case and the PSU you listed.
  6. 680 cough cough I mean the 770 was soooo much better It's not like they just overclocked a 680 and rebranded it, that would be insane. (my 680 was actually Bios edited to a 770 and overclocked a little further, still showed up as a 680 though)
  7. it's not worth it if you have the 3gb version already just stick with it. however if you plan on going higher resolutions the 3gb will start to become a bigger bottleneck, see mirror's edge on Hyper settings @ 1080p for instance here you can see that it is drawn to its knees because of the shortage of Vram
  8. No that is not what I'm saying, it can handle it pretty ok in most titles, but some games won't hit close to 144 Hz GTA V for example will perform around 7 fps below a 6 GB version so it'll be at around 80 fps Yeah, I know, he just shouldn't expect GTA V at around 100 fps these should all do well around or over 144 fps
  9. 3 GB Vram, check your vram usage when you up your frames. Also your signature indicates a 980 Ti, that is better than a 1060 6 GB >_< The problem people have with a 3 GB 1060 is the poor excuse of 3 GB Vram on the card, a lot of games maxed out in 1080p use around or over 4 gb Vram and for those specific titles he will suffer in fps loss
  10. anything below this would not give you as amazing performance per dollar.
  11. I got a Asus Strix however I would have gone with the MSI Gaming X if I had the extra $ (it's got a price premium in South Africa) but I am very very happy with mine
  12. the GTX 1070 will suffice, it's the sweat spot at the moment since the 1080 doesn't really make up for its price premium. Personally I have a 1070 and I love it like crazy, cool quiet and above all, really fast. (mine runs at 65 Celsius 45% fan speed and 2100 Mhz on the clock)
  13. short and sweet, you have a 1150 mobo you want a socket 1151 cpu. They are not compatible.
  14. most of the time it's the mouse starting to give in mate, it's not windows 90% (don't quote me) of the time.
  15. if you're crying about the looks of the game, why not the HD Texture pack? it's bethesda, if you want to mod it go to nexus and download some nice graphics mods. You can't expect bethesda to create great looking games when they have such a major modding community, it's too little profit.
  16. I've seen those, but the cables I have (they are bought at a chinamart though) will not give a constant display on my friend's 4K monitor. we had to use the one that came with my LG 23" monitor for him to have a stable display so I was giving my 5 cents from personal experience and headaches. on the flip side it might be your GPU's HDMI port making trouble.
  17. Where did you get these cables? are they 2.0 certified? I have 5 HDMI cables non of which can handle 4k
  18. most likely caused by either a faulty HDMI Cable or a cable not capable of that much data transfer
  19. then sell your current rig in 6 months and buy everything new. (get the i5 for now)
  20. ah, it's not as easy to mess things up as it is with some of the EVGA PSU's I've seen haha, no it's not your connections, the card is faulty
  21. I'd need the picture from the front of the PSU (where the cables plug into the PSU) Edit: However if you did try it without the cables in the GPU (unplugging directly from the gpu not the psu) and it doesn't post anything on the screen, there's a problem. You'll most likely have to RMA the card, but don't let it discourage you from Gainward, they are excellent, any company can have a DOA card in their mix. I have a Gainward 660 Ti overclocked to hell in my brother's pc since 2012 and it's still running rock solid
  22. get a 2500k or 2600k / 2700k do not go for the Ivy bridge models since the Z68 series can run them, but cannot overclock them at all.
