  1. That would make more sense, I was looking around for actual sizes of the conductors they use but came up empty handed.
  2. Someone please help me because my electrician training is telling me that Nvidia is working with voodoo magic. How is a smaller connector, with smaller connectors, able to carry more power than two larger connectors with larger conductors. Ohms law would forbid this, unless the 8 pins we have now are actually capable of a lot more power than they are rated for.
  3. Yes, It will be underneath. The number will probably be a G[another letter]-10X or something similar. That card is pretty old though looking at it's output on the back.
  4. It's not a real GTX 1050. It's probably some older card like a GTX 200 series, if that, that's had a fake VBIOS flashed to it to make it look like that in windows. If you really want to get it working, you might be able to take the cooler off and look at the part number on the die and it will tell you what it is. IMO it's not worth the effort, just try and find another one.
  5. I've never seen any ads in my Oculus besides them recommending games from their store like Steam does. I bought one because I couldn't afford a Vive. I was always optimistic it would not come to this, people wonder why I'm such a pessimist about everything. I'm not pessimistic, I'm just a realist. Never again.
  6. It sounds like you may have gotten unlucky twice. Was this issue still happening recently?
  7. In a totally shocking move that nobody saw coming, Facebook has strong armed Oculus into making Facebook logins mandatory starting in October. Anyone purchasing a new headset will be required to log in with a Facebook account. Anyone with existing accounts will have until the end of 2022 to sign in... how generous. As stated by Road to VR: And as it's no surprise to anyone, Facebook plans to track what you do in game to enhance your gaming experience sell you ads. And just to make sure they spat in the face of everyone who values privacy... Rant: Oculus used to be the headset I recommended because it was cheaper than what Valve offered and had a compatible gaming experience. I thought that what Oculus was doing was great for the VR market as they were trying to make headsets more affordable to the everyday user which is something that Valve had no interest in doing. The problem is that the people who typically buy an Oculus, or even a VR headset in general, tend to be more tech savvy people who don't want Facebook tracking their every move. Some, myself included, not only deleted their Facebook but routinely go out of their way to block Facebook trackers wherever possible. The only thing Oculus has done is spit in the face of their core audience with this move. If they are going to be tracking your data because they are data mining ***** ***** ******, then let's not try to sugar coat the situation by saying that it is to improve the social experience because I'm going to challenge you to show me 10 people who use their VR headsets to socialize using the built in Facebook API now. I'll wait... Most people don't buy a VR headset to socialize with people, and if they do they will just do it through VR chat instead which is arguably better... depending on how you approach the discussion... I bet what happened is that when Facebook bough out Oculus the stipulation was that Oculus needed to get people to either sign in with Facebook accounts or make them and there was probably some sort of quota. I bet that quota was not being filled because of the privacy concerns around Facebook that most people I know have to some degree now days. This is why it's now required. I have no proof, but it doesn't take much to imagine this is what's being done here. I'm disappointment that Windows Mixed reality is no longer really a thing, as that would be my new go to option. What FOculus has done is moved the market back in terms of progress now. VR was getting to the point where a computer capable of running it could be had for $400 to $500 USD and a decent headset was $350 to $400, but now nobody is going to recommend an Oculus because of this, and instead recommend a much more expensive headset with a much higher entry cost. Oculus might want to gear up to start selling headsets for $100 because I can't imagine anyone willingly paying $350 just to have ads thrown at them and have their data mined. Anyone who thinks that I'm over reacting should take a look at r/Oculus and see the backlash happening.
  8. Are you on the latest driver? Did you accidentally apply a power limit to the card some how either in Radeon software or MSI afterburner?
  9. I bought the high RPM fans that go up to 1500 RPM by accident for my build and they are pretty loud at full speed. They are basically silent around 1000 RPM though so unless you need the brute force or higher airflow of the high RPM don't get them. These are the ones I would recommend.
  10. Case fans would only get you gains if you computer starts to run hotter over time, think an hour or more of heavy nonstop load pushing temps up to mid 80s. Most of the time this is not typical for a gaming load... glances at 2500k. I would try pushing the CPU overclock a bit and see where you end up. I'm personally not concerned at 77*, I wouldn't get worried until you are hitting or exceeding 83* (I think sandy bridge throttles at 89*).
  11. If you need replacement fans, why not get something like the be quiet fans (black and white) and grab a white LED strip. I think corsair makes white ML fans but they can get pretty loud. The only other white LED case fans I can think of is the Thermaltake Riings.
  12. Does anyone have any experience with those PCIe expansion boards? I bought a 1x to 4 16x board and it keeps crashing the system. I read signal integrity can crash the system but I don't know where the signal is getting compromised from or even if that's the cause. On the rare occasion the system throws a bluescreen with it, it's a machine check exception.
  13. I don't have experience with Asus Tweak, but based on my experience with other Asus products there is probably a better option. I would try a furmark run to blast the GPU. Furmark is basically a power virus and if it passes, I would bet that it's stable. Keep an eye on temps as well, it's possible that a part of your card could be overheating. Nvidia doesn't let you see the VRAM thermals for some reason but I think you can keep track of your VRM thermals. If the issue isn't power related my next guess would be thermals besides the core since the GPU core will start aggressively downclocking when it's hot, other parts will just shut themselves off.
  14. Event ID 41 is just telling you what you already knew, the system restarted without shutting down first. You can try and run a full system load to see if it happens again. If it is an issue with power delivery a full system stress test should aggravate it. Try pushing overclocks to see if it happens again. It doesn't sound like you are tripping over-current protection, you are probably demanding more from the PSU than it can muster and it is crapping out on you.
  15. If you are using a tow behind camper then keeping the system towards the hitch will limit it's up and down movement over bumps. This should really only be an issue if you have the system powered while moving for some reason (y tho?). If the system is off, the HDDs should be able to take any kind of shock they would reasonably receive in transit excluding an actual roll over or collision. Even if the camper is bouncy there should be no issue if the system is running, I've moved all of my systems when they are running and my main system gets moved a lot and I'm never gentle with them. If I've never had a problem then I doubt you will. You could support the GPU with a support bracket if you get a bigger one. As for screws backing out from vibrations, this is a good point. Use captive thumb screws for the case side panels, a touch of locktite can go a long way. WiFi is tough. I've never had good WiFi at any campground I've been to. The connections drop out a lot despite signal, the signal is weak or there is just no WiFi to begin with. The WiFi adapters built into motherboards and some of the expansion cards are a lot more powerful though. I've never actually tried any of them at a campground though. I would suggest getting a good solid card but not to expect too much. It might almost be better to use your phone as a hot spot in many cases. If you find something that works let me know, I'm curious.
  16. Does the board you are on support overclocking? A 1620 should be able to squeeze at least 4.2GHz or higher. If you want a bit of an upgrade for not a lot of money now you can look and see if any of the other xeons in the 16 family are in your price range. 1650, 1660 and 1680 should all fit your socket but you should check that they will work. The 1680 doesn't have as wide spread support but will sometimes still work even if it's not supported officially.
  17. Don't use AMDs latest drivers. I'm still using 19.12.1 with no real issues now but was having random loss of signals like you. I changed my power mode from balanced to high performance and this fixed my issues.
  18. Yes, I did mean task scheduler and that did get it working thank you. The registry thing may not have been a mess up, turns out I had the problem again after the task scheduler method and it turned out to be a bad sata cable on a different drive causing windows to have a stroke on startup. With the zero speed thing I was thinking more along the lines of set minimum speed to say 20% and minimum temp at say 50*C, if it goes below both of those instead of trying to maintain something like 15% it would just be off. The hysteresis did work at mitigating a lot of the twitching as well as lowering the response time. The response time also helps keep the fans from rapidly changing speed which was really distracting in some games. Out of curiosity, does the hysteresis only work while decreasing temps or does it work while increasing or decreasing?
  19. I tried adding a registry file and it took me 2 hours to fix whatever I ended up breaking on my computer, luckily I had a restore point from yesterday. I tried adding through task manager and giving it the highest permissions and it looks like it does start, but it doesn't load the configuration when it starts. I can't find a way around this problem. Maybe another feature you could add is a zero RPM mode where the fans stop spinning if the temps go below the minimum. My room gets cold and the system actually spent 30 minutes yesterday with the fans completely off except for some annoying twitching. They aren't really at zero speed but the speed it is trying to hold is too low for the fans to keep spinning.
  20. If anyone out there has been interested in getting into hobby electronics or already is and needs a bench top power supply, Newegg has some heavy sales on a couple of units right now. 15V 1A variable power supply, $27.99 (75% off) 30V 5A variable voltage and current power supply, $53.99 (73% off) 30V 10A variable voltage and current power supply, $70.99 (68% off) All of them come with free shipping. I am assuming this is a US only deal.
  21. I wonder if there is a way to block data being uploaded from the software without completely breaking it in the process...
  22. I asked for a new main monitor. Going from 1080p 60 to 1440p 75 w/ Freesync. I don't think my system can push 144Hz very well and the price jump was not worth it IMO. Got my brother some case fans and an RGB strip for his new computer.
  23. It really depends on what you are trying to do. You can absolutely stick them both in the same system and they will show up. But depending on the application you may need to change the order the cards are in (which slots), change the order of the drivers installed, may need to use different video outs. I tried using a R7 370 with a GTX 960 for folding, it kind of worked but not really. The system would boot, see both cards and would start folding but would always fail on the R7. I think this is an issue with the card itself because it didn't even work when I put it in a system by itself. However when I tried putting an RX 480 in the system started having issues with not booting at all. I changed the cards position, driver installs, used older drivers newer drivers and everything in between but no go. It could work, but you may need to put a ridiculous amount of time into making it work. Cards from the same manufacturer in the system works much better even if they are different gens.
