Was RTX a big scam? – Performance & image quality analysis
ThePD replied to Emily Young's topic in LTT Releases
Nvidia had pages on their own website saying that RTX had been supported in over 25+ games before RTX even launched. We have 3.... To quote some... Player Unknowns Battlegrounds Battlefield V Metro: Exodus Ark: Survival Evolved Final Fantasy XV Shadow of the Tomb Raider Anthem This was from their own website, and we know most of these games had nothing but graphical problems and bugs when RTX first appeared in the games. So yes, Nvidia did lie by saying what games supported the technology. In fact, most of the games listed got RTX implemented AFTER the RTX cards hit the market. RTX was absolutely a scam. It was sold to people as an amazing tech that worked in so many different titles when even today it is in all of 3 games.- 73 replies

Graphene has been talked up to be the super material of the future. It is a far better semiconductor than Si but has not really gone through mass production. It remains a semiconductor at voltages far below Si allowing voltages to drop significantly over the current materials used.

I never understood why people trusted fingerprint scanners and facial recognition technology. Hell, there is even software that can pick up your voice out of a crowd. This kind of software is incredibly innovative, but way to easily abused.

Personally I don't think I have ever used a VA Panel so I don't really have an opinion. I currently use an IPS screen but I don't know really what makes it so great as everyone says as I have not been able to compare against a VA screen.

I think it is going to come down to readability for you. I currently use a 27" 1440P for my primary monitor, but I rarely put anything like chrome/browser stuff on it because it looks way too big for that. But when I was doing stuff with SQL and Programming it was awesome because the amount of screen space. If your going to go 4K, you are probably going to want to go with a 32" for readability sake.

You can follow this link for instructions for Optifine. It has been years since I last modded MC. With optifine you can also find other visual mods like SEUS packaged with optifine. https://www.wikihow.com/Install-the-OptiFine-Mod-for-Minecraft

US Senate Against Lootboxes and Pay2Win Micro-Transactions
ThePD replied to Princess Luna's topic in Tech News
I guess every game should be free since there are devs that charge 60 dollars for a game. Wouldn't want the children paying 60 dollars for a game. That would be a disaster! -

So is Apex Legends and Fortnite, but I bet this discussion would lump those two games into the "Microtransaction BAD" arguement. -

So the problem is that you don't want to play the game to get the item you want? Want the weapon skin? Do the Grind? -
US Senate Against Lootboxes and Pay2Win Micro-Transactions
ThePD replied to Princess Luna's topic in Tech News
Doesn't matter. Under this bill both are affected. Path of Exile and Planetside 2 devs are paid primarily through the use of microtransactions which is why those communities don't ever complain about the microtransactions. On one hand you fix the issue with some devs gating game progression behind a paywall, but punish other companies who do not use microtransactions maliciously. -

Why are we focusing on such a small minority of people spending large sums of money on a video game because of lack of responsibility, when banks lend money to people to purchase cars or houses they cannot afford. People buy houses in the hundreds of thousands of dollars when they could not afford it even if they saved for 20 years straight. But we are focused on people spending hundreds of dollars in a video game? Why is it that games made by EA, Activision-Blizzard are constantly under the microscope when games like Path of Exile and Planetside 2 have had microtransactions for almost a decade and nobody bats an eye? People like microtransactions when it is a a game they actually enjoy and feel a connection to. -

There are people who brag about how much they have spent on microtransactions. I heard this first hand on Apex Legends when my teammates were both bragging about spending hundreds on weapon skins. The game had been out for 4 days at that time. It is absolutely a minority of people who are spending money irrationally. Those people are the reason the game I am playing is free. I love the whales, let them pay for my game. Also, it is complete government overreach. -
anyone experienced with i7 5820k OC
ThePD replied to winkawak's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Yeah, the K means it has the ability to be overclocked. But Intel doesn't guarantee any performance passed the original base/boost clocks. I just got a really bad chip. My friend has also has a 5820k and his hits 4.5ghz -

Linus actually has a 5820K overclock video you could use as a base. There are safe overclocks mentioned in the video but for safety sake, I would start a bit lower and work your way up. Personally.... my 5820K does not like to overclock at all. Even the simplest overclocks cause bluescreens. -
AMD's new Radeon RX 3080 XT: RTX 2070 performance for $330?
ThePD replied to BiG StroOnZ's topic in Tech News
This exactly. People will buy a more expensive product that performs worse than the competition at the drop of a hat because most people outside of the tech world don't know any better. There are people who bought 2080ti just for raytracing in BF5, a game they did not even know if they would like at the time, just because it was the most high end and had the most "shiney" features.- 301 replies

AMD's new Radeon RX 3080 XT: RTX 2070 performance for $330?
ThePD replied to BiG StroOnZ's topic in Tech News
Think this came from peoples universal approval of the performance to price ratio of the 1080ti. So when they saw the dramatic price increase on the 2000 series they expected it to be a GPU just as great as the 1080ti. But they forget the products will have flaws and sometimes do not live up to our own internal expectations. That and gamers are some of the hardest people to please.- 301 replies

1 Pound = 1.3 USD.

I got mine for 500 USD at Best Buy. Don't know the pound to USD conversion rate, but shouldn't be too far from the right price if found at a Best Buy or something.

I agree, 95% of soundbars are total trash. I listened first hand to the Sonos one and it blew my mind that a soundbar could actually sound very very good. OP says hes looking for a soundbar so I suggested the one I use in my home theatre.

There is a huge difference between a traditional soundbar and a sonos soundbar. Night and day difference.
