Yeah, you can get display outputs from those x1 slots. They even make some x1 GPUs.

Depends on the GPU, some won't POST if they don't get at least x4. Try it.

For that much cheaper, I'd go 4650G. Odds are you won't notice a performance difference between the two, the iGPU is identical and the per core performance is similar enough.

Lol I can guarantee you that wattage readout is wrong
Here's a more power hungry system running overclocked as hell with watercooling and all that jazz.  https://youtu.be/LiWThqgFfI4?t=4m9s
I started the video at the wrong point but it gets the point across. I'm willing to be money that you were measuring power draw from the wall. Assuming you have an 80+ Bronze/Gold-ish PSU that would make perfect sense.

OP was asking about gaming, i my self use a 5820 for VM's and rendering. So in the sense the OP was asking you pay alot more money for little performance gain

For gaming the i7-4790k is the best because fewer cores means you are likely to be able to overclock more and I don't think there are any games that benefit drastically from 6 cores yet. Skylake is just around the corner, so if you are in no rush you can always wait for more info, but I wouldn't recommend waiting just because you think it'll be so much better. I considered waiting to build last summer until broadwell launched (Z97 boards were out so I figured it'd be within a few months, and well you know the story) and I am super glad I didn't. I am content with the investment considering my CPU is still the high end consumer i7 a year later. So depends on your timeframe and budget situation. If you only plan to game today I wouldn't get the 5820k unless you are a huge enthusiast and who doesn't mind paying an extra $150+ for something you'll likely never notice.
