  1. You didn't mention whether you will be paying for power, and if so what's the going rate. Cost of the card is just a small piece of the pie if you have a power hog (unless someone else is paying!)
  2. Looks Yea, your client isn't running. The "Local Connecting - Inactive" status happens when FAHControl can't talk to the client. You need to get your client up and running before FAHControl or the web control can talk to it. No idea how using "pause" killed it; likely something else conspired against you ... Easiest fix is to do a standard uninstall, then make sure you delete the config files for FAH located in the "C:\Users\<user-name>\Appdata\Roaming\FAHClient" folder. (substitute your account name for <user-name>, of course). I think the "C:\Program Files (x86)\FAHClient folder is fully removed - delete it if it isn't. Reinstall and you should be golden. If that doesn't solve your problem, I'm following this thread and will watch for further issues. - Pete
  3. That sounds about typical for a CPU. Does that ppd including the video card? Even with the relatively low end 650m (compared to average video cards these days), I would still expect it to generate 15k to 20k ppd. - Pete

  6. I installed the standard 64 bit linux FAHclient and FAHcontrol on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS according to their instructions here: stanford linux install guide I didn't bother with viewer. The client still has my GTX 1080 confused with my GTX 980 - will get around to fixing it eventually... If you can get that far, you should be able to start/stop the FAH client as posted above. It looks like the headless install requires configuring the client from the command line - which is apparently poorly documented. If you intend to automate it, it might be simpler to just use FAHcontrol the first time around to get it working the way you want, then just run the client directly from cron/bash. Linux is not my main OS, but I know enough to get myself in trouble . Good luck! - Pete

I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for, but I'd just use cron to scedule bash scripts to run the on/off commands listed on the page you linked to. sudo /etc/init.d/FAHClient start sudo /etc/init.d/FAHClient stop Just leave the system running, and have it run them according to whatever schedule you want.

  10. Yea, sounds like it either doesn't work, has been disabled or has restrictions we are not privy to, or who knows what.

  12. The ppd scores are in! ... Overall calculated PPD so far: 708715 This covers the past 9 days or so, basically since install. A sample project listing follows, and the whole html table is attached if you're interested. The projects are listed in the order they were completed. Note: I calculated the project times from the project "Log Started" entry to the "Final credit estimate" points awarded entry, so the actual TPF values are a bit smaller than 1% of the project times. The overlap between previous project completion and new project start would raise the calculated PPD, but it seems negligible. I have not done any calculations to determine whether that is the case or not. For reference, my linux box setup: Mobo: ASUS P8Z77V-Pro CPU: i5-2300 (which means the slots are PCIe 2.0) Mem: 4 MB HD: 80GB (from a PS3!) As for windows, dual booting may be in the cards - I'll look into it, but first I'm going to fiddle with FAHcontrol until it has my 1080 and 980 properly identified - it still has them backwards.   13. Hmmm - even more interesting. So they exist, you just can't target them? Makes the switch meaningless if that's the case. Or maybe there are just not enough of them to go around - you request one, there are none currently available, you time out waiting. Was that 3500 base point WU from the same server as the servers that balked on your small packet WU requests?
  14. You might also consider BOINC, I understand it is more flexible about how much CPU power is handled.
