Let me tell you, scared me shitless.  Whole thing started artifacting, even restarts didn't fix it.  Eventually got to fix it, OC runs fine now, but I wouldn't be surprised if more stuff pops up.

Sorry I hadn't read above very much. I also think it's not really the CPU's fault for it being a bottleneck, but DX11 makes weak single-thread CPUs bad for gaming. If DX12 turns out to be great and allows all cores to communicate to the GPU I don't think those server type CPUs like AMD FX will perform badly. If only it were a perfect world with perfect software, we could get AMD CPUs that perform great for very cheap

you decided to ignore me when you decided that the only reliable way to test a cpu is using poorly programmed software. The way i see it somethings power is measured using its full potential, not using an ad hoc test to limit it on purpose.
And again you ignored me when I asked what games you wanted me to test out of the ones I have, because they're not poorly optimized MMOs for the most part.
It's not my fault if you keep posting rants without reading other people's posts, including the one specifically asking what you would like me to test on.
At least @SkilledRebuilds (sorry to pull you back into this) and I have differences of opinion but we try to hear and understand each other out rather than ignoring what the other posts, even though we know we don't agree with each other.

Idk, as far as looks go, i think the gigabyte and the MSI are pretty good looking. The best price/performance ratio i think will be the strixx, but then it also depends on the country you are in as far as prices go. G1 Gaming cards usually manage really high OCs.
Also, I had done plenty of OCs before this but had NEVER modded my card's bios before. OCing is pretty straightforward these days, not much to it really, and modding the bios with these bioses sounds scary (it did to me), but if you follow the creator's instructions its a cakewalk. Not saying "YOU MUST MOD YOUR BIOS!!!", but seeing as its actually not too hard after all i dont want you to be discouraged by it either, cos you can achieve CRAZY overclocks with them.
IMPORTANT_NOTE: whichever card you get, make sure it has Samsung memory, or in any case DO NOT get Hynix memory (so g1 gaming cards like mine could have either, hynix is a crappy OC'er, samsung is great).

Also I think i'll be water cooling this summer, its going to be two different loops, im going to have 280mm absolutely dedicated to ONLY my G1 Gaming under a full cover EK block.

    Thats complee BS.
The code will run on the GPU as its an NVIDIA gtx970.
Secondly if it would run on the CPU (which wont happen here) it multithreads really well (thats why you would want it to run on the GPU anyways)

Your games are rarely going to take advantage of more than 4 cores right, but if you have an fx 4xxx games will 100% it and you won't be able to multitask while gaming, with the 6300 you will be able to play games and everything else and a 8320 will allow you to do things like game streaming.
I have a 6300 and a 290x and very rarely do I get bottlenecked by my CPU, admittedly I just recently had to turn on turboclock because running it at 3.2ghz was bottlenecking GTA V on Ultra, also it doesn't perform well with MMO's and a few large scale multiplayer games like Battlefield. If your getting an fx 6xxx get the 6300 and overclock it, its like 10$ cheaper than a 6350 and is the same chip with a lower core clock.

Clock for Clock every Fx processor will perform the similar for gaming.

As far as what Faceman said, I clearly stated that an i5 is indeed a better cpu, im just saying the 8350 will not bottleneck a 970. Could you please explain to me how you get increased gpu usage when the gpu is already at 100% usage? i remember from math class 100% is the maximum, there is no increasing after that, but i guess we're getting creative with math here too.
As for SkilledRebuilds, yes you would be right, poorly threaded games will technically get an 8350 to bottleneck a 970, but only b/c the full potential of the cpu is basically inutilized, not because it is materially incapable of doing those calculations. The end result is inarguably the same, true, but the problem lies in the exploitation of its resources, certainly not in its lack thereof.
As for graphs, it is currently 20:30 in Rome and I'm going out, but I will try to oblige with MSI Afterburner graphs tomorrow.

yea sry revert from 352.86 to 350.12. and dont let Geforce Experience reinstall it, it tried that with me. The link above is correct for 350.12 though.

a lot of people, me included, have had problems with the nV driver 350.86. For most people, though not everyone, this is fixed by returning to the 350.12 driver.

wouldn't do it on air, I have made people 1.4v bios's for water though. this one guy ran his card at 1675 and 2000mhz memory @ 1.4v. He could beat ANY 980 that was stock, even the G1 980.

OC'ing CPUs is usually a tad more complicated than with gpus, and also bears more risk. my advice would be to find a tutorial here or on other trusted forums, or on youtube.

Consider that higher voltage will allow higher clocks, but also higher temps, so you need to make sure his cooler can handle it. also, you will need to adjust NB frequencies, not to mention RAM Timings. I run an AMD CPU, so im not sure, but i think intel has also locked direct access to cpu clocks, so you will need to change clocks using the multiplier only. also keep in mind that RAM timings will depend on the brand of the ram and the base clock of the ram (Example: 1600/1800MHz RAM usually has base timings of 9-9-9-24, and these will scale as you change cpu clocks. other ram with different clocks and timings might require different ram timings both as a base as well as different scaling when you OC).

    These might be of use:

i'm honestly not an expert in cpu OC, particulary that one, but what i can tell you is this. If you CAN act on the base frequency, leave the normal multiplier and OC the clocks through the base frequency, its much better (guess the intel duo was before they locked base clock).
And DO NOT change the pci-e frequency. GPU overclock is very different and is done within windows.

Lollausen got a reaction from XxDeadpool67xX in Is it true that the R9 290x will outperform the GTX 970 when direct X 12 comes out
The 290x is a great card. However:
    A) who the hell plays at 4K? no one, cos no one poops cash in the morning im guessing. Hence, very very few people will appreciate the 290x edging out at more than 1080p, while at 1080p the 970 wins pretty much every time

B)saying you dont get a lot of FPS increase from OC'ing a 970 is just wrong, and im guessing in fact you havent bothered getting more info. My 970 is OC'ed to 1605MHz effective boost. Considering stock boost clock was 1329, trust me, there is quite a difference in fps. QUITE a difference. (http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/327032-gtx-970-owners-club/) <<<<< For anyone interested in extreme 970 OC'ing.

C)the earlier comment on the 980 is essentially false, b/c 980s do not suffer from the VRam issue

With all that said, I would go with a 970, from experience its a great card (and unlike what has been said above, I run Shadow of Mordor and GTAV maxed to the effing limit with 45 average fps and higher, except I also have all the nVidia works options exclusive for nVidia turned on, not to mention added MFAA forced via the control panel on top of the games' regular AA). Btw, I'd really love to see a 290x in the Witcher 3 with nVidia hairworks on, that'd be a laugh.

Again however, the 290x IS a great card, especially if power consumption and nVidia Works/FX do not matter to you. I guess that, given the same price, i would go 970, but if you can get it cheaper, go 290x. the 290x does indeed do a little better at 1440p, but not by much, and an OC'd 970 can get to crazy ass clock speeds at times.
As far as DX12 goes, multicore Cpus will see the most gains, meaning mostly AMD processors, but also intel. I dont know for sure, but i think the gains as far as gpus go will be on par.

If you copy ALL the settings into your stock bios it doesn't matter what revision you have.

BIOS's have more than what you see in MBT, theres code hidden behind the scenes.

if your card has the same model number of bios you can directly flash it, if not just copy the settings.
