This is an incredibly rookie thing to reply with. Just skip the workstation builds and actually put to use having a rack mounted server, and put the saved cash into a nice UPS for the rack. These kind of systems don't need to be rocking the high of the high end workstations..

I too own a business, or well 11 right now including a company that deals with installing camera systems with servers that range from $100,000 to $3,000,000

This is why I much prefer midspan PoE injectors with network management. You can remotely power down a port etc.

Also high power PoE switches fail at a higher rate and cost proportionally too much compared to their non PoE counterpart and a rackmount midspan injector. Down side is you need more rack space and more cables.

If your not happy with Milestone check out Genetec, their software supports that amount of cameras and also supports GPU accelerated decoding.

By no means am I impressed with them. I contacted them a month ago saying I needed to purchase ASAP, the rep from Milestone contacted me with some questions next-day and said he would forward me to the local territorial manager, and I haven't heard back in THREE weeks. Ridiculous. I'm hanging on an edge here and they aren't even trying.

The new system (with 970) will have native Mercury engine (premiere in-editing GPU accel) support. I do believe there is a tweak to get the 960 and lower supported, but I'm unsure of how well it works. Just FYI the X99 builds are complete overkill for 1080. If you wanted to really reduce the cost sell the i5 and 960 to move to 4790K and 970. I just assumed with a $1500 budget that the i5/960 would move to a gaming box and you needed a more work oriented PC.

What editing software are you using? and does it utilize the GTX 960 for CUDA (most software programs don't recognize the 960 as CUDA capable unless you have done some tweaking)?

*note* 2x8GB is so that you can expand to 4x8GB in the future, you're very unlikely to need 32GB for 1080p videos, but in case you expand your horizons, you have that option.
