  1. Proxmox on my two main boxes, one is mainly for plex and secondary domain controller, the other has my FreeNAS VM with NFS shares and iSCSI for my RPi's to reduce SD write as well as centralize storage. Also have my primary domain controller on that box along with an AWX VM plus working on setting up a Graylog VM. Most of the apps I run are on one my RPi's. Not technically a server but also have a VyOS router which is fun.
  2. Not sure about that particular domain not resolving but changing your DNS to the Pihole will activate the DNS leak protection.

I didn't notice 10th gen Civics until I bought one.
  4. Pretty much every game that I even play currently runs really well on Linux. (World of Warships, AC Odyssey, Metro Exodus, Divinity: Original Sin 2). At this point, the only things that don't run well are things that don't run at all on Linux such as certain anticheats and postprocessing like Reshade.
  5. There's no noticeable quality difference between QuickSync on gen 6+ CPUs and NVENC. Plex will always prefer QuickSync even if you have a Nvidia card added. QuickSync can do more transcodes in general. Finally don't transcode 4k because it ruins the quality, create a separate 4k library for direct play/streams and a 1080p library for clients that can't do 4k. It's easier than messing with the headache that is 4k transcoding.
  6. Definitely something to do with DHCP not being sent or received by the router. Try running Wireshark on the client to see if it's sending DHCP requests and if it's even hearing anything back.

Wow. So 8TB HDD is heavy.

My NAS only had four 8TB drives and heavy af considering it's rather small in size, can't image how much it would weigh with more drives.
  8. And DHCP works when WEP is off? If I'm not mistaken, it should show a list of connected clients in the wireless controller. Does it even show up there when connected to WEP?
  9. What do you mean by cannot connect? The password doesn't work or something?

Probably because LinusTechTips is the domain name and Linus = dropping.

Caved in and bought TES: Morrowind and Oblivion…

There is a bug where if you equip armor directly from a container the game will sometimes crash. You will probably want to install this https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/19510 to fix a lot of outstanding issues. Save frequently, and I mean very frequently because of bugs but also because you might screw your game progress up.

You install older packages from archive.archlinux.org with pacman -U, for example: sudo pacman -U https://archive.archlinux.org/packages/f/festival/festival-2.4-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz You can also edit pkgconf to not upgrade specific packages. Would highly advise against doing that for a DE on an Arch based distro though, you're just asking for breakage.

10Gig is kind of useless with Unraid, you're limited to single disk speeds. Also keep in mind drives get slower as they fill up.

Unraid server set up on my main NAS now. Did mo…

Unraid parity is just effectively an XOR of the bits on each disk, with the results of that operation being stored on the parity disk. There isn't a parity stored yet when you first create the array so it does a parity check to build it and then stores it. Once you start writing actual data, it modifies the parity.

It has to build the parity for the first time, it doesn't magically appear out of nowhere. Go to Settings -> Disk Settings, and look for Tunable (md_write_method). The 3 options are read/modify/write, reconstruct write (Turbo write), and Auto which is something for the future but is currently the same as the old way. Change it to reconstruct write for faster write speeds.

I think the only part of it making it worth that price is the included 5 years of data recovery, otherwise you can get 10TB externals as the same price.
  22. The only super short HBA I'm aware of is this IBM one. It only has one SFF-8087 connector on it though.

Me waiting on DNS propagation after finally figuring out how to get cert-manager working on my k3s cluster with dns01 challenges:

  24. The original reports came from the ZFS mailing list, but that isn't an SMR issue so much as the SMR Reds behaving incorrectly by issuing a sector not found result randomly during resilver, if I remember correctly. I don't recall any sort of drive ejection issues in regards to SMR prior to the Red fiasco. WD added TRIM to the those SMR Reds which I think has a bug in its implementation.
  25. Red Pros aren't SMR at all, only regular Reds. Your issue is different.
